A log can be found below with the results while running my application. The loader just can't seem to find the Httpclient on the server or something to that extent. All searches made per this error message on the Internet have failed to yield any results that would afford me a solution to my problem. Any assistance that you can afford to me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! Eric.

  • Can a unsigned jar file access the tmpdir (java.io.tmpdir)?

Hello, according to the JNLP tutor, a signed jar file can access the local file system, but a unsigned one can not. My question is, can a unsigned jar file access the temp directory (the system property java.io.tmpdir)? I think the temp directory should be accessible even though it is part of the local file system.
    Thanks,
    LyLi

no - unsigned application has no read/write access to the temp dir, but you can use the jnlp api to read and write files with the users permssion.
see: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/jre/api/javaws/jnlp/index.html for FileOpenService, FileSaveService, and ExtendedService.

  • Putting unix utility visible version info into ear, war, jar files?

I would like to be able to use some unix utility (or java itself without a separate program) to display my version information for jar-like artifacts: ear, war, jar.
In other words, when I build one of these things, I'd like to put my SVN version, date, user name, and maybe some other stuff into it in a way that can be read without a custom program. This needs to be done as part of the ant build (without requiring a custom java program).
For example, one approach would be "strings | grep <special-string>" if I could put something, somewhere in the file that had this as 8-bit character encoding.
For jars, making the jar executable and having the main print it out works, but I don't think that's do-able for ears and wars, and it would be desirable to have a consistent approach.
    Anyone already doing this?
    Ideas?

For example, I don't think you can specify a mainline in the manifest of an ear or war.
They have pretty strictly defined formats, and I don't want to risk violating a standard by tinkering outside the standard.Possible, but you can always run it as java -cp myWar.war my.utility.Version.
There may be another possibility, but I'm unable to find any reference though:
In my early Java days, I used to work on a system where there was a Unix utility (called something like +"ident"+) that was able to extract version and description info stuffed in a .so file (under which "standard" or proprietary format was the info stored, I don't know).
I used to see it work on individual Java .class files too (from memory we had to put a String constant name "VERSION" in the class) and maybe jar files (I'm unsure).
One of my co-workers at that time had described that as a standard tool, but "ident" turns up nothing of that kind on Google... And I've never since encountered any description of the "VERSION" constant naming convention...
I was young and naive, I hope I were not bluffed by some alias in a custom setup... :o(
Edited by: jduprez on Feb 18, 2010 11:30 AM
OK a bit more reserah turned up [that man page|http://man-wiki.net/index.php/1:ident]. Apparently ident is part of RCS (installed along with CVS), and works by grepping the target file for patterns such as "$keyword: text $" (which is RCS/CVS keyword substitution pattern). Now that it mentions it, I remeber that that's what we put into our VERSION constant's value ("$version : ...$", or something of that kind).
    So:
    1) it's not so standard after all, you have to install the rcs package on the target host (regardless of whether you use RCS for configuration management, which would probably be a bad idea nowadays)
    2) you have to put such formatted strings somewhere in your code or configuration files (easy with Ant, if not genuinely through Subversion)
    3) To have it work on jar, war, ear, files, you have to make sure that the file is not compressed (otherwise the pattern might not appear in clear). I don't know whether that's easy to configure using Ant's jar, war, ear tasks.
A bit of a hassle compared to stuffing your own utility class and using java -cp...

You need to sign both frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar first the clear JAR cache ion end-user computer,so that new signed JAR files are downloaded to end-user machines..

  • Basic jar file usage question

I have developed a java project in eclipse. To develop this, I have used many external jars that I added in Java Build Path.
I exported this project as jar file.
Now I want to use class files in this project in the jsp page.
The problem is where should I put my jar file of this project and also the external jar files that I used. I made a WEB-INF folder in my project folder but still it is creating errors.
    Please suggest.

    HI,
I put both my project jar file, and the external jar file on which it is dependent in WEB-INF/lib directory. It can find my project jar file but not the external jars(axis.jar) and gives the errors as:
    java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc.setItemQName(Ljavax/xml/namespace/QName;)V
Could you please tell what is the problem. Under which path it looks for the external jars?

However, when I compress classes of this program into Jar file and run, it can not recognize the path to Image. And it leads to this error:

    Please help me. Thank you.

When you JAR it's different. Try something like this:
    BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(getClass().getResourceAsStream(listname)));
you don't hae to do the BufferedReader, but the getClass().getResource... is what you need.

    <security>

    </security>
otherwise, javaws will not try to validate the jar(s) certificates and grant the required permissions.

  • How to retrieve constants value from compiled code in jar file?

    Hi everyone,
I've been looking for a way to solve this for a week now, without any much success... and I've finally decided to ask the Java gurus for a solution! :-)
Here's what I am basically trying to do:
I have several jar files in which there are only compiled code (.class).
In every class, there are 2 constants (declared as static final String) that I would like to retrieve (one is the version and the other the date of the last modification).
My goal is to print a list of all the classes in the jar files with the values of these 2 constants for each class.
The solution that I have right now to do this does not work properly: for now, I read all the elements of the classpath, check if these are jar files, and if so, I look into each one and load all the classes one by one and print the results.
The problem with this is that it uses the method Class.forName(className) and as some classes are unfortunately present in many jar files (2 or 3 copies), once the classes have been loaded, then it won't be "reloaded".
Without the possibility to "reload" these classes, I cannot see inconsistencies in the versions of the classes present in the jar files.
I have read many articles, and I thought that I could then use a custom classloader and create a new instance of this classloader for each jar file.
    2 problems with this:
    - according to many posts in the different forums I have read, the jar files should not appear in the CLASSPATH (but this would be easier for me if I could use it...)
    - some classes will not be loaded if some classes (present in other jar files) are not loaded... and this makes things really really complicated to implement...
So, I thought that I was maybe doing this the wrong way, and that there might be an easy way out of this...
In fact, I do not need to load the classes... all I need to do, is take a sneak peek at the constants and print their values... and that's it!
Somehow, I think that this is possible to retrieve the values of compile time constants (declared as static final String) as I can see that with Eclipse (when opening a jar file).
So, my question is: how can I do that within my java application?
Or maybe there is another easier solution to do what I need?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Deploying Java Desktop App using executable JAR files

    Hi there.
Today I am very optimistic about java. I am a beginner, and I had tried (in my few free time) to understand how to deploy java desktop apps.
I am using the lattest NetBeans IDE to do the programming and it is very very fast and optimized.
Going to the point, I tried some time ago to deploy an application (made with this IDE) using JAR files, but even though the application run well on my IDE, when I packed it, it rised an error saying that
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/netbeans/lib/awtextra/AbsoluteLayout
I was using an absolute layout on my JFrame forms and this AbsoluteLayout is provided by netbeans and not by the normal SDK.
I then looked for the absolute layout class and found a jar file in the following path:
    C:\netbeans\modules\ext\AbsoluteLayout.jar
So I mounted the Jar file in my File Systems and then added the contents of the file to myApp.Jar file.
I used the automated Jar Recipe Packaging feature of netbeans, that is why I needed to mount the AbsoluteLayout.jar file into my file systems.
Now it runs fine by just right clicking the MyApp.jar file from Windows Explorer.
In a next reply to this topic I will include some sample code so that anybody requiring to do such implementation can take this for help.
    Regards!
    JN

    Well,
I will take some time here to show the basic source code and procedure to create a desktop application, pack it up in a Jar file for deployment, add other classes or jars to the deployment jar file and finally open the jar file as an executable. This applies for either windows and linux environments.
Take in count i am using Netbeans IDE 3.x (3.5)
First I open the IDE and create a new project called MyDesktopApp. This is done by going to the menu Project / Project Manager. Then click on the New button and specify the project name and click on OK.
At this point, the Filesystems tab in the project explorer is empty. So I mount a directory to store myDesktopApp in it. I selected c:\MyDesktopApp but you can select any name you want.
To mount the directory you follow these steps:
    1. Right-click on File Systems
    2. From the contextual menu select Mount > Local Directory
    3. In the filechooser window, you just browse it and SELECT the directory to mount. Be aware that you can even create the directory on this window. Do not enter (double-click) into the directory you want to mount, just select it and click on finish...
4.Then the directory entry appears under the filesystems node of the project explorer.
Now you have to create your application. You can either create a package (special configured and tracked directory) or you can create the clases directly inside the directory. For tidy project, I will create the package.
To create the package follow these instructions:
    1. Right-click on the mounted directory and from the contextual menu select New > Java Package
    2. In the New Wizard - Java Package window, type the package name and click on finish. I use the "MyDesktopApp" as package name.
OK. Now the package is created under the mounted directory. Now we have to create the Main Class. In this case I will use a JFRAME as the main class but you can create any class you want.
To create the JFRAME as main class follow these steps:
    1. Right click on the java package you just created and select New>JFRAME from the contextual menu. If you do not see the JFRAME option on the NEW sub menu you will have to select the All Templates option. I explain the All Templates option now on, it will be easier to use the JFRAME if available. Once you use JFRAME with the all templates then the JFRAME will show up in further NEW usage.
    2. So finally we used the All Templates, and you select the Java GUI Forms > JFRAME form option and click on NEXT.
    3. Give it a name. (I used MyDesktopAppFrm) and click on finish. Be aware you can set advanced options by clicking on next. But for the purposes of this topic we will use default options so click on FINISH
    4. A new JFRAME form appears inside your package. Right click on the form and select Set layout > Absolute Layout.
    5. Add some controls and code. I added a label and a button. And coded the ActionPerformed event of the button to say hello! on the label. this is up to you. The code just looks as follows:
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
// Add your handling code here:
    jLabel1.setText("Hello folks!");
    6. Compile and execute the form.
Let's say this is our Desktop Application. Now We will pack it in a Jar in two steps...
    A. Create a JAR file (Recipe)
    1. Right-click on your package and select New > All Tempaltes (Long Route) You can also select New > JAR Recipe if available.
    2. On the New Wizard Window, choose the JAR ARchives > JAR Recipe template and click on NEXT
    3. I used MyDesktopApp as the file name and Defaults and then click on Next.
    4. Specify the JAR Contents. Select the Package (not the mounted folder) from the mounted file system and click on add and then click on NEXT twice...
    5. On the JAR Manifest window, click on GENERATE
    6. Edit the manifest in the window to add the following code:
    Main-Class: MyDesktopApp.MyDesktopAppFrm
    7. Ensure the Main-Class definition is the same as your java package and JFRAME name. Click on FINISH
    8. At this point we have a jar file in your project directory but this file wont run because it is missing some Netbeans clases that we will add in the next set of steps... Just to check, compile the file (right click on the JAR file and compile) and try to execute. It must compile but must not execute.(well if it executes you are done. It may execute if you did not set the lay out of the form as AbsoluteLayout)
    B. Add the AbsoluteLayOut to the JAR
    1. Right click on File Systems and select Mount > Archive Files
    2. Look for your netbeans installation folder and select the following file:
    .../netbeans/modules/ext/AbsoluteLayout.jar
    3. Click on finish
    4. Now the JAR File is mounted in the file systems.
    5. Right-click on your MyDesktopApp.JAR file and select properties.
    6. Look for the contents property click once on it and then on its elipsis button [...]
    7. From the FileSystems box in the Contents window, select the AbsoluteLayOut file and click on Add
    8. Then the system asks you if you are sure. Of course you are so click OK. (If not sure, just read the message text and click OK...:-))
    9. Click on OK
    10. Compile your JAR Recipe (right click on it and Compile)
    11. Now you must be able to run the file by right clicking it and EXECUTE.
    12. Also you must be able to run the file by double clicking the file from a Windows Explorer. You may receive a message asking to select the program to run the file with. You must browse and select the Javaw.exe file in the bin directory of your Java RUn Time installation. This is typically located at C:\j2sdk1.4.0_01\jre\bin or something like that. Use the File-Search feature of window to locate the JAVAW.exe file if needed.
I hope this long explanation helps somebody to deploy Java Desktop applications. Please reply the message if it helps you just to know it was useful.
    Thanks for your time....

  • Signing a jar file question

    Hello folks
Have a tough one here.  We have a Legacy System that uses some 3rd party software called Reflections For Web (RWeb) from Attachmate in order to allow the Legacy System to interface with a mainframe system.  One of the files needed by this RWeb software is a jar file called KeyToolsPro_jce1-2-1_signed.jar which itself was created by another company.  The problem we are having is that due to the security changes in Java 7u51 this file is blocked due to not having the appropriate manifest entries and due to being signed by an unknown certificate CA.  This problem is compounded by the fact that the company that created the file is no longer in business and as such cannot make the changes needed to the manifest file.  Also the problem with the signature it seems is due to it being a cryptographic file it needs to be signed by a JCA code signing CA which is not recognized by the AF.  This page talks about signing it with either a Sun or IBM JCA code signing CA:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/security/crypto/HowToImplAProvider.html#integritycheck
My question would be is this still the only way to do this?  Or is it possible that another type of CA could be considered "trusted" for the purposes of signing this type of jar file?  Since it talks about a Sun certificate it does seem like the documentation might be a bit outdated and that perhaps any trusted code signing CA could be used to sign the file.
    Thanks in advance.

You can add a manifest to a jar file like this:
    jar ufm MyJar.jar manifest.txt
You'll then need to resign the JAR.  You'll need a code-signing certificate for this.  You can obtain a real one from a provider, or generate your own CA and use it to sign a code-signing certificate yourself.
You can add a CA to the trusted list like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\lib\security>keytool -importcert -alias MyCA -file c:\cacert.cer -keystore cacerts -storepass changeit -noprompt
where c:\cacert.cer is the certificate for the CA.
However, it may be easier to add your internal server to the exceptions list using the Java control panel.

  • Linking between jar files

I'm trying to create links between topics of different jar files but cannot get it to work.
have tried a few different ways to do this:
    <a href="jar:file://../jarfilenam.jar!/htmlfilename.htm">
    <a href= "../jarfilename.jar!/htmfilename.htm">
<a href="/jarfilename/htmfilename.htm"> none work. Any insights?
    thanks
    Margaret

    Hey Margaret,
we have the same problems. Did you found a solution?
The funny thing is: sometimes a reference in the style
works - but not constantly! We had three references in this style in one html-page and the first one of them works in our development environment. In the productive environment (with WebStart-technology) no link works. It's also not clear, to witch object the path should be relativ: from the folder, the HTML-page resides? Do you need one more "../" to step outside the jar?
By the way: does anyone knows, how JavaHelp finds it resources like GIF's, wich are referenced from HTML-pages? If I have the same filename in more than one JAR, it's normaly not defined, which one is loaded with the getResource-method of the class loader, or am I wrong?
We have different JAR-files with same resources, for example "hallo.gif". In each JAR-file is a HTML-page, wich loades this GIF. If I delete the GIF in one of the JARs, the HTML-page in this JAR doesn't display the GIF. The other HTML-page works still fine. It looks like the resources are only searched in the same JAR. Am I right??
    thanks
    Olaf

  • JAR  file:      could not find the main class.

I have been working with Java satisfactorily for about two years.
    Installed a bigger hard disk.
    Installed Windows XP.
    Downloaded java.
    Downloaded java jdk 1.6.0_07
    Downloaded java3d 1.5.2
    Downloaded Eclipse Ganymede.
A new project, a new class with an existing and working java file. It did function in eclipse.
    Generated a jar file with:
Export \ JAR FILE \ select files and the destination for the Jar file .....
... next...next filled the field Main Class
This generates the jar files, which have worked before.
And now the error: could not find the main class.
    Thand you for your help.

Executing a jar file means it will not read from the CLASSPATH environment variable. I learnt this the hard way a few weeks ago and I had to resort to different measures to work around it.
Your problem does sound weird, but check that the last line in your manifest file is a new line. If it's not, the manifest is not read and parsed correctly.
To test, do this: remove everything from the manifest that you don't need, except the Manifest-Version and Main-Class attributes. Make sure the last line is a new line, and see if it works.
    Cheers

May I know where will be the Jar file for the application?
How t orun that using the Run-OTA option in this?
    Thanks

The jar file is not found in the bin folder after running the program once.

  • Deploying Jar Files

I created an application with Sun Studio Enterprise 8.1. I built the Jar file and then moved it and its corresponding 'lib' directory to another box. When I run the application with the 'java -jar' command, I receive the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file
    Any advice?

    According to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/tooldocs/windows/java.html#options
       -jar
Execute a program encapsulated in a JAR file. The first argument is the name of a JAR file instead of a startup class name. In order for this option to work, the manifest of the JAR file must contain a line of the form Main-Class: classname. Here, classname identifies the class having the public static void main(String[] args) method that serves as your application's starting point. See the Jar tool reference page and the Jar trail of the Java Tutorial for information about working with Jar files and Jar-file manifests.
When you use this option, the JAR file is the source of all user classes, and other user class path settings are ignored. So, if you are using -jar option, then -cp will be ignored.
There are two ways to solve this:
    1. Do not use -jar option.
You can try executing the mainclass directly as in:
    java -classpath lib\edtftpj-1.5.4.jar:Chat.jar <mainclassname>
You need to add all necessary jars to classpath above; you should use ";" instead of ":" if you are running in windows; mainclassname should be just the basename (without the .class extension).
    2. If you want to use -jar option, then the MANIFEST file of Chat.jar should speciify the classpath. (When you use -jar option, all other classpath settings are ignored and so classpath should come from manifest file).
