Basic question on multiple views

Just getting started in the world of cocoa, objective-c, etc. and have basically started by building a very basic app and slowly adding things to that app (however arbitrary and seemingly useless) to teach myself new things.
I initially started with a simple app that loaded a single view that had a couple of buttons (one plus, one minus) and a "total" label. All that happened was the total incremented/decremented by 1 based on the button you selected.
I want to try and hit on the idea of multiple views, so I've modified the code to only allow the user to modify the total within a range of 1-5 and have added a "Go To Page" button.
What I'd like to do now is set it up so that the user generates a number (1-5) and then selects Go To Page at which point I load a page (probably just with a label to confirm which page it is, i.e. "First Page", "Fourth Page", etc.).
I guess where I'm running into a mental block is how I go about changing views from within a view controller (where my response to my "Go To Page" button is).
I understand I could build all of my views (basically just my navigation view controller and one other "page controller" that I will create multiple instances of and set different label values on) in the App Delegate, but how would I go from my response method inside one of the controllers to my top level Delgate.
Again, I know this is basic stuff, but I'm learning and have had some difficulty finding answers to some specific things.

You may want to visit iTunes/iTunes U and download some of the iPhone developer videos...good stuff that will help you get a handle on using the touch screen and smaller space, etc.
Also, check the Apple iPhone Human Interface Guidelines...
The point I'm trying to suggest is that your 'block' about how to design and proceed may actually be your inner geek trying to tell you this is a new environment and you perhaps need a bit more time to come to grips with what is actually a new way of presenting data, etc.

Basic Questions On List View Plug-in For Lightroom

I need some basic information about the List View Plug-in for Lightroom:
HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:
I have 40-60 photos per folder. Can List View list that many files on successive pages?
Most of the time I have 15-30 keywords or keyword phrases listed per picture. If I could widen the column I could see all of them. If the column does not widen, will the keywords not shown still be there to be exported to an Excel column, and then shown?
The thumbnail pictures on the end of all the summary lines are cool, but can I delete them before exporting to Excel?

Your questions seemed to be asked without actually tried the trial of the plug-in. I did, just now, and from what I can tell, with only have 20 images to test with since that is the trial limitation:
1)      The number of rows is fixed, and you can use the slider at the top-right to move from one page to the next.
2)      The columns do not change width in the plug-in though what you can’t see still gets exported to Excel although I’d expect all the keywords to be in one Excel column, not one column each.
3)      There are several sizes of thumbnails that can be selected from, including None—this is new compared to the one screen-capture on the plug-in website, so setting None as the thumbnail size is how you’d prevent thumbnails from going to Excel. I tried exporting thumbnails and they were all broken images, so maybe it doesn’t actually work, or maybe there is a limitation in the trial mode.

Basic question about multiple AP's and channel selection

I have approximately 10 AP's (Aironet 1240G) which are to be deployed one of my office floors. We looked at a floor diagram and made sure that we ordered enough of them to completely saturate the floor with wireless coverage. There are some AP's which are probably only 50' from each other. It is a little overkill actually.
I have put a basic configuration on the switch so that there are two different SSID's on the AP (one for a production WLAN, and the other for a Guest WLAN). Each SSID is associated with a different VLAN.
What I would like to know is what do about channels for the AP's? Each AP will be independently configued and controlled.
I understand that there is a way to control which channels each AP uses, but I am not familiar with the commands or the best practices for how to configure the AP's
Should I do something like make sure each AP is using a different channel than its nearest adjacent neighbor? Would someone mind sharing what the command to do that is, and where it is applied?
I read through some of the archives and saw people mentioning to set "non overlapping channels", and to configure them to use channels 1,6,11. I guess I dont understand what is meant by that.
Do you manually set one AP on channel 1, then set its neighbor to use 6, and another neighbor to use 11, and then you keep that up?
What is the worst-case scenario on what happens when you do have AP's too close to each other set on the same channel?
I am happy to read through documentation if someone wouldnt mind pointing me to it. I am still trying to understand the concept, and then I should be able to understand the documentation that came with the AP.

So your deploying autonomous access Points. If this was a Controller based deployment, it would actually manage the channels for you dynamically.
But what you really want to do is see you APs doing something like this:
(imagine each number represents an AP, and it channel)
1 6 11 1
6 11 1 6
11 1 6 11
1 6 11 1
This is an Autonmous configuration guide. I think it has a small section on channel assignment. If you're doing this manually, I think you specify the actual frequency to use in the CLI instead of channel number.

So from the CLI under the Dot11Radio0 you'd do something like "channel 2412" for Channel 1... 2437 for 6, 2462
for 11....
If you have APs next to each other on the same channel, you are likely to have clients interferring with each other.

How can I have multiple views for my question

When I posed a question on a forum, it indicates that I have one (1) view. How can I have multiple views on the same question?

I believe the number you are looking at is the number of times a particular thread has been looked at (viewed) by different users. When someone else opens your question, the view count should increase.

Possibly a very basic question but I have set up a spread sheet in Numbers and have viewed help videos but I can't get it to give me sums for the columns I highlight. Keeps coming up with the figure zero. I have version 09 2.3(554). Can anyone help

Possibly a very basic question but I am going nowhere without a solution. I have set up a spreadsheet in Numbers but it won't give me sums for chosen columns. I have viewed the run through videos and used the formula but nothing happens apart from giving a figure of zero or a red arrow. The sum icon in the bottom left hand section of the window does not highlight or show any total as I understand from the video that you can drag whatever total is here onto the relevent position on your spreadsheet. I have Numbers 09 version 2.3 (554). Can anyone advise. Thanks.

To sum a column, use a formula such as this one in Cell A6
Type this in a cell below your data:
=SUM(A2:A4) or whatever range of cells you want to sum. The easy way is to type:
=SUM(
and then drag or shift-click to select the range of cells. Close the formula with a final bracket ")".

To see the sum (and other simple statistics) in the bottom left, select a range of cells. That tells Numbers which cells you are refering to.
The videos are good, but the Numbers'09 User guide, and the Formulas and Functions User Guide are better. Download them from the Help Menu in Numbers.

Assorted basic questions

I have recently bought an iPhone, and after reading the User Guide I have many small basic questions. I'm using an iPhone 3GS together with Windows Vista. I wouldn't like to clog this forum with multiple topics about small things, hence everything being here:
1) Is it possible to save .pdf files to the iPhone? I have limites web access, and I often use a few pdf files. I would rather use storage space for them than downloading them all the time (even with cache). If this isn't possible without external applications, which reliable application can save documents such as pdfs and docs to the iPhone?
2) The iTunes Store is not available in my country for buying movies. Given how I'm using Windows, is there any way to transfer movies to my iPhone? Whenever I try dragging a movie to iTunes on my computer, nothing happens.
3) In order to access my work's network from outside computers, we need to set our browsers with specific proxy configurations. Is it possible to set a proxy with Safari? Is there any way of doing that at all with the iPhone?
4) I have began using iTunes in order to move my music to the iPhone, but iTunes and the iPhone automatically organize everything based on song title, while I have organized everything based on filename. Is it possible to make the iPhone and/or iTunes display and order songs by filename? I could manually rename everything, but with nearly 1000 songs...
5) Is there a Find command on Safari, corresponding to control F on other browsers? When reading long pages, I miss being instantly able to locate a specific word.
6) Is it possible to use the recorder built withon the iPhone to record a phone call? Is there any application capable of doing so?
7) I have set my Gmail account to the e-mail function, but I have noticed that, unlike the Gmail website, the e-mail application doesn't keep conversations together (like what the iPhone does with messages, keeping a message and its replies together). Is there any of setting the Mail application to do that?

1. For your pdf and other files I recommend the application Files. Files light is free and has a 300mb limit I think. The paid version is limited by your free space on the phone. It views Excel, Word, PDF, JPG, music, and other files. The transfer is by wireless.

I got one basic question regarding SSIS 2010 Package where source is Microsoft Excel 97-2005. I wanted to know How this package works in production where there is no Microsoft office or Excel driver installed. To check that there is excel driver installed
or not, I followed steps: Start-->Administrative Tools--> Data Sources(ODBC)-->Drivers and I found only 2 drivers one is SQL Server and another one is SQL Server Native Client 11.0.
Windows edition is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, Service Pack-1 and System type is 64-bit Operating System.

In SSIS, the Excel Source and Excel Destination natively use the Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider which is installed by SQL Server. The Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider deals with .xls files created by Excel 97-2003. To deal with .xlsx files created by
Excel 2007, we need the Microsoft ACE OLEDB Provider. SQL Server doesn’t install the Microsoft ACE OLEDB Provider, to get it we can install the
2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components or
Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable or Microsoft Office suit.
The drivers listed in the ODBC Data Source Administrator are ODBC drivers not OLEDB drivers, therefore, the Excel Source/Destination in SSIS won’t use the ODBC driver for Excel listed in it by default. On a 64-bit Windows platform, there are two versions
of ODBC Data Source Administrator. The 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator is C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe, while the 32-bit one is C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. The original 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC drivers are installed by the Windows operating system.
By default, there are multiple 32-bit ODBC drivers and fewer 64-bit ODBC drivers installed on a 64-bit platform. To get more ODBC drivers, we can install the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components or Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable.
Besides, please note that 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components only install 32-bit ODBC and OLEDB drivers because it only has 32-bit version, but the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable has both 32- bit version and 64-bit

I´ve some basic questions - we are seeking for an alternative for our MS Exchange System. So I need some more information before going to hot testing Oracle :-)
- Does Oracle Coll. support multiple Domains? Not only subdomains - either completley different Domains?
- Is it possible to create multiple Users via SQL (Massgeneration)?
A more technical question:
On my first testing (Solaris 10, Sparc) I run into a strange phaenomen - my FQDN hast an '-' interated and the installation process interpreted it as '_'? I mean I have read something about that but couldn´t find that in the doc. anymore. I think it is a big problem for sending mails if the system change my domain name from [email protected] to mail@fq_dn.com ... ;-)
Is it my fault or is it a "feature"?

Oracle Collaboration Suite supports multiple domains.
You will not create users with SQL but with some other commandline tools as their data goes into the OID and the CS database. But yes, it has tools for bulkcreation.
I have not yet had the pleasure of working with a domain with a - but you should be capable of creating a new domain with a dash and remove the domain with the underscore.

Hello,
For your own practice you can download the free version of SAP Netweaver ABAP in the downloads section of SCN. This is only for ABAP development. You wont find many of the stadard tables and functionalities with in it. IDES should be containing all the modules. But again that depends on the licesnse with which you are provided.
Your questions have no relevance from the ABAP technical point of view except the first one which is a basic question and should be asked here as per the forum rules. Thats the reason why you were suggested to read the forum rules.
For any queries of the trial version ABAP have a look at this forum

MVC �Best Practice� (handling multiple views per action/event)

Looking for the best approach for handling multiple views for one action/event class? Background: I have a small application using a basic MVC model, one controller servlet, multiple event classes, and multiple JSP views. For performance reasons, the controller Servlet is loaded once, and each event class is an instance within it. Each event has an �eventProcess()� and an �eventForward()� method called by the controller, standard stuff.
However, because event classes should not use instance variables, how should I communicate which view to forward to should based upon eventProcess() logic (e.g. if error, error.jsp, if success, success.sjp)? Currently, there is only one view mapped per event, and I'm having to put error handling logic in the JSP, which goes against the JSP being for just view only.
My though was 1) A session object/variable that the eventProcess() sets, and the eventForward() reads, or 2) Have eventProcess() return a mapping key and have the conroller lookup a view page based upon that key, as opposed to 1-1 event/view mapping.
Would like your thoughts!

Your solution seems ok to me, but maybe the Struts framework from Apache
that implements MVC for JSP is a better solution for you:

You should take a look at it. It has in addition some useful taglibs that makes life much easier.
We have successfully used it in a project with about 50 pages.

2 Basic questions

i am beginner in Webdynpro.i have
2 basic questions in abap webdynpro.
1)after a view is designed,while generating the application,we usualy get a web applicaiton.and use the url to access the developed screen.
can we,alternatively,generate a ABAP transaction instead?(like instead of URL ,we shud get a tcode,like normal abap dynpro)
in other way,i want to develop abap dynpro using webdynpro tools.
2)can we take a webpage,and covert in into meta data and thus,use it to create the view?(the reverse of what we do)

Regarding your first question: YES, you can attach a normal ABAP transaction to a WDA application.

Multiple views without instancing

Ive seen the question asked about this. and it doesnt seem to
be widely used. using multiple cameras diplaying multiple views of
one scene, at one time, without having to use instances. why so
many opt not to use it I dont know. when it should be used. on a
very standard basis. for those that play the playstion or xbox
systems. you have most likely seen a game where a second window
opens up. You can do the the exact same thing in shockwave 3d. so
why not use it. Say you have a character walking thru a house. and
the camera is following that character. You can take a seperate
camera, in a seperate part of the house. Showing another person
coming from behind the first person in a second window displaying
both windows at the same time. You can actually create mood and
atmosphere. There isnt a single shot in movies or tv that cant be
created in 3d and therefore shockwave 3d, be it split screens or
not. So why not use it. This is like if all the people that use
flash opt not to use flash video. when that is one of its strongest
features. well here is a very simple example of it

If you read my post more carefully, you'll see that I said
the plugin install "process", not the size. I agree with you that
the size is not so much of an issue particularly now broadband is
more widespread. But the number of dialogue boxes that must be
click through, the 'age request', the toolbar option, the redirect
to shockwave.com.... it's appalling and I am embarrassed when a
client needs to see that, when we pitch a shockwave game to them.
It's a
major hinderance to selling shockwave work to clients.

view would inherently raise the 'standard' or make a project more
entertaining. In almost all cases, unless it was for some specific
purpose that was relevant to the project, I think the user would
think, "what's that extra camera view for?".

Basic questions about CISCO IOS

Hi everybody, Jack here,
I have some basic questions about the Cisco IOS, could someone help me addressing some of them please? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Basically, I have two IP addresses assigned by our Cable ISP. From what I understood you can configure a Cisco router for multiple IP addresses using the IOS, thereby allowing someone like myself to take advantage of having multiple IP addresses. This may seem unnecessary to some, but I've always wanted to put the 2nd IP address to use, since after all, I've been paying for it.
I was just wondering if someone could confirm that what I'm hoping to accomplish is indeed within the capability of the Cisco IOS (i.e. Fully utilize my 2 IP addresses). As well, if someone could kindly suggest a decent CISCO router for online gaming home use that would be super awesome!

Certainly using multiple IP addresses is in the capability of Cisco IOS routers. How they can be used depends on the relationship of the IP addresses. I am assuming that we are talking about IP addresses assigned for the user to use and that the IP address for the ISP connection is not one of these that we are talking about.
If both of the IP addresses that you have been assigned are within the same subnet then you would assign one of the addresses to the router interface to establish IP communication between the router and the ISP and to enable Internet connectivity for the devices inside your network that will use the router as their gateway to the Internet. The other address that is assigned can be used for address translation and in particular for static address translation which would make one of your devices inside to be reachable for connections initiated from the Internet (if that is something that you might want to do).
If the addresses that are assigned to you are in different subnets then you could assign one address to the outside router interface and assign the other address to the router inside interface. Or you could use the second address for address translation.
I do not have much expertise with online gaming, but I would think that either the Cisco 881 router or the 890 router might be appropriate for you. If 100 Mb connection is sufficient then probably the 881 would be the one to look at. If you need Gig connection then look at the 890.

Basic Questions on UITableView

Hi, I'm trying to learn the iPhone API by creating a simple table application and I have some basic questions. There are stuff in the example code and the docs that seem to contradict, and I'm hoping some people can clarify.
1) Table View Programming for iPhone OS, it says that UITableView must have a delegate and a source. I take it that in the example code (let's use TableCellSubivews) RootViewController is the source and TableViewCellSubviews is the delegate?
2) If so, why does TableViewCellSubviews adopt the UIApplicationDelegate protocol and not UITableViewDelegate? In fact, I don't think any of the classes in the example code adopt UITableViewDelegate.
3) In the UITableViewDelegate reference, it names didSelectRowAtIndexPath as a method. In the example code, why is in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath a method in the RootViewController, and not the delegate itself?

The thing is that both the data source AND the delegate adopt a method called didSelectRowAtIndexPath. But they're for very different purposes. For the delegate, it's simply a notification by the controller that "hey, this row was selected, you may want to do something with it", i.e. change the color of the font, add a checkmark, etc...
For the data source, it's much more important (and required!): the controller is saying "hey, someone requested row #x. Please give it to me!" This includes getting all the data and setting up the whole row, then returning it to the controller.

Basic questions about recovery/repair preparation

When I got my machine, over two years ago, I made repair disks on DVD's per Toshiba's instructions. Now, with my nightly backups, I have it make a system disk image on a NAS device.
If I were to have a large failure and need to restore my system, is there anything I can do now that would prevent me from having to go back to my inital system install of two+ years ago and start reinstalling everything?
I guess what I'm wondering is if would making another set of more recent repair disks be useful at all in giving me a "jump start" on recovery and how my scheduled system disk image fits into the picture. I've heard some folks say system disk images from a NAS device can't be used but they were not particularly credible sources so I don't know.
Probably pretty basic questions, but having recently had a scare with my machine, I want to be sure I'm as prepared as I can be.

If you cannot boot from an optical disc or flash drive to a program that restores from that NAS image, Sally, then it's useless. What system/procedures are you using? Read the manual.
The original recovery discs in my view are not very helpful. I would use them only to establish whether hardware is at fault when debugging a problem. Daily backups are the best source of recovery. We keep ours for ten days and test the recovery procedure from time to time.
Most of us who make backup disk images create them on an external drive connect via USB. Windows 7 already has such a backup program. One can boot from a repair disc to restore that image.
As you realize, this is important Let's sort it out.
