Basic Search Item javascript error

When I use the Basic Search Item to submit a search, I get a Javascript error:
Error: 'document.mysearchform.p_looplink' is null or not an object
Examining the page HTML shows that submitting the serach runs this function
function fetch() {
var purl;
purl = location.href;
document.mysearchform.p_looplink.value = purl;
document.mysearchform.submit;
but the form mysearchform doesn't have a field called p_looplink
The form fields are
INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="ms" SIZE="15" MAXLENGTH="30"
INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Go"
INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="pg" VALUE="33"
INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="search_type" VALUE="Simple"
INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="ll" VALUE=""
INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="p_action" VALUE="SUBMIT"
INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="_dad" VALUE="portal"
INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="_schema" VALUE="PORTAL"
This bug only appears when you have your browser set to report all Javascript errors - it doesn't prevent the search from working.
Any ideas about what's going on here?
Does the basic Search Item (not the portlet) work properly for anyone else?
Rob

hi rob,
this problem is reported in bug 3801639. it is fixed in portal 10.1.2.

  • Google searches throw Javascript error "Debug Error: Exception...."

    I went away for a week. Everything fine. Since I got back (May 6 2010) when I click on any Google search result a pop-up box appears (sometimes when the search results page first appears before clicking anything) with this message:
    "Debug Error:Exception... "Node was not found" code: "8" nsresult: "0x80530008 (NS_ERROR_DOM_NOT_FOUND_ERR)" location: "chrome://ffamazonhot/content/lib/Extension.debug.js Line: 366""
    Continual clicking (100+ clicks!) of the OK button eventually clears the dialogue but any subsequent search starts the whole process again. I also not that the style of the Google results p[age has changed.
    I have to use a different browser for Google searches. IE7-OK Opera 9.64 - OK Chrome - OK (naturally)
    I have cleared Cache, History, Cookies etc. I have tried reinstalling FF. I have disabled JavaScript in he browser. All no good.
    I notice in the forums that others are having this problem in the same time range - i.e it has just started happening. I have tired contacting Google with the usual lack of success!

  • Basic Search portlet returns error when Display in New Browser Window set

    Ora AS Portal 10G release 2 (10.1.2.x)
    Have a region of type Portlets.
    The enable users to include content in this region is enabled.
    I added a Basic Search Portlet in this region.
    Basic search works fine if launched from current area, however if change attributes of region to have a link that displays item in new browzer window, then
    basic search portlet opens in new browzer window but returns error "Error: You do not have permission to perform this operation. (WWC-44131)"
    The Basic search portlet in the new window contains a link to advanced search. If use advanced search, results are returned.
    to test further, I added a advanced search portlet to this region, also with the display option to display item in a new window. In this case, the same error is obtained when doing a search.
    Has anyone experienced this?
    Any solutions?
    Thks in advance.
    Paulo

    Hi,
    Can you clarify what you mean by "change attributes of region to have a link that displays item in new browzer window"?
    Are you referring to Edit Region > Attributes tab ? Which of the Available Attributes did you select?
    Thanks,

  • Library search giving javascript error in IE8...

    Hi,
    Searching in a document library search box gives the following error in IE8. Sometimes the search works and sometimes it does not. It starts out ok, but after 2 or 3 searches the error appears. The error messages are different which I am pasting below.

    Hi Arsalan,
    From the error message Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus, I suspect the issue is related to focus().

    I cannot reproduce the issue in Search via IE8, I wonder if there is custom coding in your envrionment that could be related. Please try install latest update to IE8 and test the issue again.

  • Basic Search Isn't Finding Keyword Metadata

    I have a basic search box on my home page. I have a page located in the same page group that has a search word in it for testing. When I input that word into the basic search box, it doesn't find that page. I have Oracle Text enabled in my portal so a basic search box should be able to find text not only in the keyword field but anywhere on the page. Does anyone have any idea why it is not finding it?

    Hi,
    Have you figured this out yet? I'm having the same problem with the 'basic search item" that i have on all my pages. I doesn't return any item results,..only page results.

    Hi,
    If you want to validatelist column, there is out of the box way to accomplish this with SharePoint
    There's a great blog that covers how to validate Strict Text Formats:
    http://sharepointsolutions.com/sharepoint-help/blog/2011/12/how-to-validate-strict-text-formats-in-sharepoint-2010/
    In addition, we can use JavaScript to validate column. Please make sure you use the code correctly.

  • Javascript error prevents TOC, Index, Search from displaying

    I generated webhelp from my RoboHelp HTML project and got a javascript error (this.maCom[...]' is null or not an object) when viewing the result. See below for the full error text. As a result the TOC, index, and search do not display. The javascript error can be found in the browser status bar which indicates "Error on page." I found that if I viewed the result from robohelp, the browser that launched shows the TOC, index, and search, but has a security warning about a restriction from running scripts or ActiveX controls. However, when I move the generated webhelp to my production server, the help does not have the security warning, but does produce the error so that the TOC, index, and search do not show. I had performed the same process to generate webhelp about 8 months ago but did not have any error whatsoever. As a matter of fact, that version is still in production and works fine.
    In my research of the problem, I found this is the same error as forum message 4063663 (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4063663). I didn't have a second system with RoboHelp to be able to get another whphost.js, however, I diff'd the generated file with the one found in template_stock and found only two lines different. Those differences were only replacing a couple of variables with static text so I don't think replacing this file will solve any problem for me. This was the only forum message I could find that addressed this issue.
    I was originally on RoboHelp 8.0.0 when I first encountered the problem, but went ahead and patched to 8.0.2 and still had the same problem. I even created a new simple project. Once I moved the simple project to the production server, it also would not display the TOC, index, and search.
    The odd thing is that just 8 months ago, I used the same process to generate (on 8.0.0) the webhelp without any error. The only thing I can come up with is there was a WinXP patch that affected the webhelp generation. By the way, I also tried this in Chrome and that also produced the error.
    I'm not sure what is causing this problem or how to resolve the problem. Any one have any ideas?

    After further research and tests, I discovered the Security Update for RoboHelp 8 and 9 (http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-23.html) posted as an announcement that I had not seen before. I had used the updates feature in the product, but that said I was up to date and did not include this update.
    The two javascript files in this patch solve the problem. The TOC, index, and search now display.
    Update:
    As I further researched the problem (while writing this response), I found files that were newer than the latest security patches I was aware of. In addition, I discovered that my security organization decided to patch with APSB12-04 without me knowing about it. This patch is why my 8.0.0 installation magically quit working. As I look at the security announcement, the bulletin did not include any prerequisites of specific versions the patch can be applied to (8.0.0, 8.0.1, or 8.0.2). Adobe, please give more information on the bulletins so that organizations that auto-deploy will be forced to know what is running before updating. Information like whether they apply to all Robohelp 8 versions or just a specific version. If APSB12-04 was meant to be applied to all 8 versions, then it did not work. It actually broke my installation of 8.0.0 for the generation of webhelp as well as subsequent installation of 8.0.1 and 8.0.2. It looks like they did a better job for APSB11-23. Maybe the security updates should be some sort of service pack that has an installation and a back-out process. Right now, my security organization has overwritten the files based on the specification in the security bulletin.
    I am going to try to patch with APSB12-04 again since I have updated the base to 8.0.2 to see if I can still generate webhelp. If I can't view the TOC, I'll have to remove it once again and be "out of compliance."

  • Creating Library Item results in series of JavaScript error messages?

    I've made two attempts to create library items from a page. One is a navigation bar and the other a side bar that has some lists and "non html code" in it.
    In both cases as the library item was created I rec'd a series of alerts warning of JavaScript errors.
    See attached images, which show just two of the error messages.
    It appears that the library item is then created but if I insert it into another document I get more JavaScript error messages.
    What do I do to avoid having this JavaScript problem?

  • Javascript error with HTML Editor

    HI,
    I was wondering if anyone could help me with a javascript error which appears upon page load. It only appears in internet explorer,
    This person appears to have solved the problem but does not explain where abouts they made the change required.
    FCK Rich Text Editor aka HTML Editor Standard IE Error/Bug
    This problem also appears on the apex demo of new features.
    If anyone can respond with help, it would be greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Kev

    Hello Kevin,
    This is a difficult issue as the init code for the editor item is being generated internally by the APEX engine, and we don’t have any control over it. As I see it, a complete solution can only be provided by the APEX team.
    Until then I’m using a workaround, based on the original init code. The FCK Editor takes a standard textarea and convert it into the editor item, based on its init parameters.
    First I’m uploading the FCK JavaScript code, using the page HTML Header Text (If you are using the editor a lot, you can define a page template to do that for you). The code is:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/i/fck/fckeditor.js"></script>Now I’m using a regular textarea item as the base item for the editor. I’m using a regular onload event to init this item:
    onload="initFCK('P80_MY_EDITOR');"The JavaScript function I’m using is similar to the following:
    function initFCK(pItem) {
                var oFCKeditor        = new FCKeditor(pItem) ;
                oFCKeditor.BasePath   = "/i/fck/" ;
                oFCKeditor.Width      = '760';
                oFCKeditor.Height     = '105';
                oFCKeditor.ToolbarSet = 'Basic' ;
                oFCKeditor.Config[ "AutoDetectLanguage" ] = false;
                oFCKeditor.Config[ "DefaultLanguage" ]    = "en";
                oFCKeditor.ReplaceTextarea() ;
    }Of course, the init parameters can be changed according to your specific needs.
    This code works fine on IE and FF (didn’t check other clients).

    Arie.
