Basic Webpage runs slow on IE 7

I'm trying to develop a prototype web page for my website. So
far its nearly finished and runs fine on Firefox 2 and Opera 9, but
falls to pieces on IE 6 and earlier and seems to make IE7 overload
most pc's processors. Could someone give me some feedback on the
code found at:
http://www.csmayores.org.uk/csmark2
I've embedded the CSS code within the page's header so you
can easily see it.
This website is aimed at the elderly so all measurements are
done using relative units (em) to allow browsers such as Firefox to
resize the screen content proportional without loss of integrity
(So that the visually impaired can zoom in); could this be causing
the problems?
Thanks in advance
Chopo

It seems the source of the lagging on my system is the shadow
on the background of the main text panel the
“mainPanelBG” div tag. The shadow is a png
(Images/CSM_Shadow.png) with an alpha (transparency) channel. It is
only 10px by 10px large, but I doubt its the image size
that’s the problem but rather the fact that IE7 probably
doesn’t do a very good job of tiling a transparent png
background over another background. If it has to go, I’ll get
rid of it, but it seems a shame, especially as all the
“proper” (ok I’m just kidding don’t slate
me for microfobia) web browsers seem to cope fine with the webpage.
To see the difference the lack of shadow makes try the
following two versions of the website on IE7
http://www.csmayores.org.uk/mark2_Shadow
http://www.csmayores.org.uk/mark2_noShadow
The problem is especially noticeable when scrolling up and
down the webpage.
I admit, some of the images need optimising, but I don't
think this is contributing much to the problems I am experiencing
as I have tested the page without the images. The one on the left
margin is optimised as is the background (sort of, as I originally
made it 2000 pixels long, this is just dumb and I am going to
redesign the bottom and make it just 1000 pixels long. This should
half the file size), the one that needs work on is the yoga session
pic.
Can anyone suggest any shadow workarounds for IE7 otherwise
once I separate the CSS from the main webpage ill resort to using a
different CSS document without the shadow for IE.
One solution I am working on is tiling the shadow on the
Right hand side only along the y-axis. This seems to be working but
it makes it more difficult to offset the shadow downwards as well
as to the right; however this is a miner compromise.

  • UCCX 8.5 - HA over WAN - Appadmin webpages run slow

We have constant and ongoing problem with the Supervisor and Administration webpages of our UCCX running extremely slow, we are talking 5 minutes + to change the skill of an agent.
Have had several tac cases open and problem continues to arise, so I am tending to believe this is a bug with HA over the WAN.  Wondering if anyone else with HA over WAN -- system Cisco Unified CCX Administration ---System version: 8.5.1.11004-25  has this problem?
    I cant keep doing this:
Subject: SR 622308023 - UCCX Appadmin webpages run slow
    Hi John,
    Please try the following steps:-
à Login to the Secondary UCCX web-admin page
à Go to CCX Serviceability page from drop down box on the upper right hand side
à Then to Tools> Datastore Control Center > Replication Server
à Click on Disable CDS and HDS
à Wait for couple of minutes and then click on Enable CDS and HDS
à Then click on Reset Replication
à Then reboot the primary CCX Server through SSH session “utils system restart”
à Wait for 15-20mins and then reboot the secondary CCX Server through the same command and then wait for around approximately 20mins
Please try the above steps during off-hours and then monitor if issue re-appears after a day. It seems there might be some synch issue which might be causing this and the above steps can fix it.

    Hi
I have this problem with one of my customers, or something similar - it's CSCug18648.
According to TAC, up to 30 seconds is 'acceptable/as designed'. We randomly (but frequently) get multiple minute delays, and it's due to some other process on the system locking some of the data. It should be fixed in ES03 for 8.5(1)SU4, which should be available approximately the end of May.

    Aaron

  • Macbook Pro runs slower the longer it stays on

For about the last week, my macbook pro has been running slow. It runs normally for a couple hours after starting up but after a couple hours, it starts running slow. It freezes constantly, I get the spinning beach ball doing the simplest tasks. Finder takes forever to open, moving one or two small files takes a ridiculous amout of time, safari freezes, when I swipe four fingers up for mission control, it freezes, basically everything runs slow or freezes. But when I restart my computer, it runs like normal for a couple hours. I ran an extended diagnostic test and it came back normal. I verified the disk and it came back abnormal but I was able to repair it so that's fine now and I verified disk permissions and that was normal. I have 368GB of free space on my hard drive and I don't run that many applications at once and all of my updates are current. I have no idea what's going on.

    Disk is verified and repaired.
Few more steps you can try are:
Start up in Safe Mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4373
Procedure is same though the title says 10.7 Lion.
Safari > Safari Menu   Empty Cache.
    Best.

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Running Slow and Pulse/Click Noise (Not Hard Drive)

Hello. My 13" Macbook Pro mid-2010 (7,1) suddenly began running slow and lagging on certain operations. There is also a light pulse/click noise coming from the center of the keyboard. I am sure this is not a failing hard drive. How, you may ask me, am I so sure??? Well, I originally thought it was a failing hard drive and so replaced the hard drive, and there was absolutely no change, and the lagging and noise still continues. This makes it very frustrating to do basic, low-memory-intensive things like browse on Safari or watch a movie.
I have upgraded to Mavericks, and have 8gb Ram. This problem started suddenly about a month after upgrading to Mavericks. In fact right now my computer is lagging just typing this, Activity Monitor says I am only using 2.75 ram of 8gb.
Steps I have taken with no resolution
    -Replaced the hard drive
    -Reinstalled OSX Mavericks
-Verified and Repaired Permissions (I still get a message the the following item can't be repaired "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent". But I have read that this is a common thing and can be ignored.
-Restarted the computer holding down left shift-option-control and the power key for 10 seconds (not sure exactly what this resets, but some type of system cache thing.
-Reset the PVRAM stuff ( I restarted the computer holding down command-p-r. I'm not sure I did this correctly as it went to the firmware disk repair screen.
Could there be a RAM issue? Does RAM start making noise when it goes bad? I bought my upgraded ram from ebay, it isn't the official Apple Store stuff. Could replacing the ram possibly help? My System Report tells me the RAM is OK.
Putting a message on here for help is the last step before giving up. I can't do much with this computer because it is hiccupy and overall difficult.
    Thanks.

I have a Windows 8.1 and it's even running slow.  I'm a complete novice with computers (I've only had this one for 3 weeks) and I'm probably doing something wrong, but I haven't a clue what.
The tools are not responding when I try to use them.  Some of them work sometimes, but not others and some don't work at all.  I'm in a design class online and I need these tools desperately.  I have an assignment due Monday and I'm losing the whole weekend because Tech Support is only open M-F!
Any help anyone can give me will be appreciated.

  • Mac running slow, what to do?

My mac is running slow, what should I do to clean it up?

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • Why does every browser run slow when I am doing something moderately hardware intensive in the background?

I have looked but I don't even really know what to call this. But I can reproduce it everytime without fail and I don't understand.
    Steps to Reporduce
Load up Safari (or chrome, whatever it doesn't matter, those two browsers have the excat same problem)
Do some browsing. Not much just check your email or something (doesn't matter what you do)
Run a application that uses some CPU. (Go play a game, or run handbreak, open parallells, anything that causes a bit of load)
Go back to the browser and try to browse. Everything is dog slow and unsuable.
Exit the application (just showing that the app was running while slow browsing)
Browse sites at normal speed again
    Intresting facts
I have been dealing with this for a while. So I have discovered a few things before posting here
There is plenty of free RAM both Inactive and Unused in Activity monitor is over 1G (I have 8G total)
There is plenty of CPU "room". Nither core is anywhere near 100%
The goal is under moderate load, so overloading the computer and trying is not what is happening.
    nice-ing proccesses has no effect
I notice it most when running games, but it happens at other times too, games are just one of the few things that put any load on this mac.
Other programs work fine. I have never noticed anyother program running slow ever when this is occuring. This includes programs that include the webkit controll, oddly. Though, to be fair, that may not be accurate as I don't experance that as often.
I have verified disk (everything is fine)
I have verified permissions (and repaired them, everything is fine)
Disk and permissions don't seem to have any effect.
Network traffic does not seem slow, I can transfer files at the same rate when the browsers are slow, or when theyre runnning fine.
There is no odd hardware plugged in. I have 1 external USB disk that is always plugged in for timemachine and thats it (thoughI have unplugged that with no effect, and I have added other hardware with no effect)
The websites/pages/browsers seem to run at a normal speed if you don't have them as the active window. Really hard to say if it's just perception cause I am not watching them, or if there is an actuall effect.
The site being browsed doesn't seem to matter. Any site regaurdless of complexity seems to be effected. It could be Javascript related though that is really hard to tell, but browsing sites without any javascript or even from the local hardrive (test pages with no JS) still take a very long time to load.
Average page load time is 15-30 seconds during which the whole browser is unresponcive.
I am mostly talking about safari here as that is what I would really like to use, but chrome has basically the same effect. For this question I am sticking with fixing safari though.
    What I am looking for:
    A fix would be nice
But I would settle for an explaniation that I can accept.
I am running a MBP 17" with 8 gigs of ram and the 2.53 GHZ i5 processor. I am fully up to date with both Lion and Safari.

Also would like to say DNS resolution is not the problem. I do not use my ISPs DNS servers. I use Google's public DNS servers and a in house caching DNS. DNS resolution is fine, outside the browser and the pages are getting "stuck" while loading not while transfering, or resolving.

  • Mappings running slow

    Hi,
We have OWB 9.0.4 installed on 9i oracle database. during that time the mappings executed perfect and within the time. Now the database has been upgraded from 9i to 10g. The OWB mappings are running very very slow and we couldnt do as per the schedule hours. Let me know your suggestions and the actions to be taken for resolving it
    Thanks
    Kishan

    Hi Kishan,
I have also found that the mapping runs slow if there are data issues related to constrainst, so make sure that your data is clean.
Apart from Analyzing the table u can try other basic tuning techniques as
    - No logging option
    - Separate table space fot Data and Index; and configure the tables accordingly
    - Create Bitmap index for non-unique files, B-tree index for unique

  • IMac runs slow, restart solves for a few hours ...

Hi, for some week's my iMac has began to run slower. The browsers ( Firefox & Safari ) become unresponsive as do Finder, other App's and the computer generally until i have to force quit and restart. Then everything is fine for several hours until gradually the same issue reoccurs. The longer i leave it , the slower things become until i actually have to power down manually.
When i think back the problems may have started after i had issues with websites not loading properly ( Sky News Uk was my homepage )  I struggled to find a solution but eventually upgraded Adobe flash player for Mac and maybe Microsoft Silverlight and then the sites loaded correctly. I can't remember exactly but i'm pretty sure this was before the slowing down started to be a problem.
I apologize in advance for my poor technical knowledge but any help is appreciated.
I've included the EtreCheck results which i hope may be of some help.
    Thanks

  • Macbook pro running slow, macbook pro running slow

Hi.  My Macbook pro is about three years old and running slower and slower.  I'm not savvy with computers.  Are there any things I can do to speed things up?

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • Older but upgraded MBP running slow... no obvious cause.

Hello all and thanks in advance for anything you have to share.
My mid-2007 15" MBP has gotten slow in basic finder functions and opening/switching/closing programs with no obvious bottleneck.  I use Activity Monitor regularly, and there is often a very low CPU load, never any RAM pressure (which I find suspicious, but I do have 6 GB installed), and I'm not running any particularly high demand software (usually Safari with a few tabs open, mail, Word or maybe Excel).
I'm considering doing a clean install of Yosemite (currently running Mav), but I wish I knew if there were anything else causing a particular bottleneck at the moment.  If you can tell me exactly what/why I'm running slow (i.e. some hardware issue that will force me to upgrade), that's fine, I just want to know what it is.  Even as I'm typing these letters, I'm typing 2 or 3 words faster than the text appears on the screen, yet the CPU is running around 20% and RAM indicates 3.6 out of 6 GB used.
System profile below from EtreCheck.  Thanks in advance for any help!
    Problem description:
General slowness and lag opening programs, switching windows/programs, etc.  Not related to download speeds.  No obvious cause, processor usage and memory pressure (RAM) both appear fine/low most of the time, yet computer is just slow.

Uninstall Sophos software. You don't need it and it will cause slowdowns.
Get rid of CleanMyMac software. It is not needed and will slow down your computer.
Switch from Chrome to Safari for less clutter and memory usage.
    Add more RAM.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

  • Script on page causing flash player to run slow

I am trying to use webmaker( magix) and as I get to the load
page I get this message... script on this page is making flash
player run slow and may cause computer to be unresponsive do you
want to abort after 4 days of trying could anyone tell me what the
    problem could be please

I don't understand why I would use onEnterFrame(). The entire
program only needs one frame to exist on, but maybe I don't
understand how Flash needs to manage these things. I am a C++/Cocoa
programmer rewriting a program that my boss made years ago in
Visual BASIC. What made it work for him was to call DoEvents every
600 itterations, which pauses the execution so that the system can
catch up with it's own stuff. Are you saying that onEnterFrame will
do this too? How will this work if the calculation only starts when
a button is pressed. Does the entire calculation routine need to
take place on a different frame?
    Could you explain these things?

  • Call Library Function Running slow

    Hi
I’m using a third party IO board for DAQ experiment. To create a real-time DAQ VI I used the DLL file which’s supplied by the manufacture, I managed to get the VI working to read from the board by using the Call Library function. But the vi running slow, it takes about 10s to get the reading or spot any change, while using Visual basic application any changes are spotted instantly
    Any help will be appreciated

Just for analysing, where the timeleakage occurs:
Try to measure the execution time of the library function(s). It whould
be interesting, if they realy produce the timeleakage or not.
I modified your project for this (see attachment).
