Batch automation with actions.

Jeffrey,
Thanks for getting back to me, here is what the issue I am having looks like.
1) I had Photoshop CS5 on my Dell Precision Laptop.
I created an action named "Vintage + BW" that went through these following steps.
1) Run "vintage action" that I created beforehand
2) save file in a specific location called Vintage (c:\desktop\newfolder\vintage) with all the photoshop details (jpg, Quality 12, as a copy ...etc)
3) run another action named "BW" again another action that I had created.
4) save file in a specific location called BW (c:\desktop\newfolder\BW) with all the photoshop details (jpg, Quality 12, as a copy ...etc)
5) close original file without saving
2) I run an automated batch process where I choose action "Vintage + BW"
Everything works well, the world is a happy place.
This was last week.
This week, I remove CS5 from my old Dell, and install it on my new Precision, activate it, and move over the actions from my old system.
I run the same action that was working perfectly before, and now it saves everything in the BW folder, as a BW photo.
I go into the folder to see what's up, and i see it clearly running the Vintage part of the action, then saving it as as it should, but it is saving it in the root  folder (New Folder).  Then it continues running the 2nd part of the action (BW action), and saving it in the "New folder" as well, thus overwriting the vintage picture.
Now, normally, I would understand that it would do that if that box "Override Action "save As" commands" was NOT checked, but as you can see in the picture, it is checked, which means that the save as commands running in the action would take precedence.  Unless I'm not clear on that.
I tried creating a whole new set of actions giving it a different name, following the same steps as before.
I had one file open, and started recording a new action. Running Vintage, saving as (vintage Folder), running BW, saving as (bw folder), closing file.
I ran the batch again, and this time, what it does is, it saves in the right folder Vintage for Vintage, and BW for BW, but every file in the Batch folder uses the same filename as the one in which I created the action. Which means that every file that gets run through the batch, gets overwritten by the next file that runs through the action.  So while the batch runs, even if I had 100 pictures, there would only be 1 picture in each folder.
So no matter what I try, It is not allowing me to run the action properly, and I'm stumped at what I need to do now!
Any help would be super appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Didier-

I was wondering if you had a chance to look more into it?

  • Batch Process/Actions Automation with CS3 - Save 2 Files at Once

    Trying to figure this out is making my head spin. Say I have three files in a folder called house.tif, apple.tif, and dog.tif. I want to run a batch process on those to save two separate PDF files for each, one high res and one low res, that would ideally stay in the same folder and be named house_lowres.pdf and house_highres.pdf, apple_lowres.pdf and apple_highres.pdf etc.
    How can I do that with Actions and Batch Processing without overwriting any files?
    Thanks!

  • Recording Actions and Batch Automation Issues

    I'm not getting proper results when performing a batch automation on several images.
    I've recorded an action performing several image modifications, these modifications are:
    1. I've set the Background layer and named it L1
    2.I resized the image from 1600X1200 to 150X113
    3. I resized canvas size to 150X150
    4. I duplicated layer L1 and named it MIRROR
    5. I Transformed "MIRROR" layer by flipping it vertically
    6. I moved the "MIRROR" layer down until I obtain the proper mirror effect
    7. I saved the image as jpeg
    8. I stoped recording
    Now when I tryied doing:
    Open several images of size 1600X1200/File/Automate/Batch
    with the following settings:
    -source: open files
    -destination: folder (i chose a folder)
    -Override action "Save as Commands" checked
    The images were resized properly, the canvas size was correct layer was duplicated, and flipped vertically but MIRROR layer was not moved enough so I didn't get a perfect mirror effect.
    There must be something wrong with the way I move my MIRROR layer when I record the action? Is there a way of moving an image by a number of pixels instead of using the keyboard arrows?
    Thanks for any help

    So it worked:
    But now I have another challenging question.
    How can i apply a gradient effect and have it recorded and apllied as automate/ batch to several images?
    The effect I'm trying to obtain is this:
    steps I recorded are:
    1. Created a new layer and called it "background"
    2. I applied a gradient to "background" dragging the cursor from to to bottom and from middle to bottom again
    3. I arranged my layers so I can see the "mirror" layer
    4. I added a mask to the layer
    5. I applied gradient on the layer dragging the cursor from middle of image to bottom.
    I recorded the whole thing
    It works on the original image in automate batch processing but for other images I get a white background or no change on the mirror layer???

  • Batch automation on SaveforWeb failing to deal with ICC profiles (PS CS3)

    I am using Photoshop Creative Suite 3 on a 64 bit windows machine.
    I am working on content for a website.
    Starting with a JPEG image I create an Action with the following steps
    Save for Web and Devices
    In the preset options I check the ICC profiles box
    I choose a location to save to.
    End of Action.
    This new JPEG file looks fine in Explorer, in Photoshop, and uploaded using my provider's standard uploader into a regular CMS site.
    As I have several hundred photos to process, next I run
    Automate
    Batch
    Using the Action created above
    Save and Close
    The files create fine, with the expected file name formats (the original images have spaces in the file names, the new ones in the new folder have hyphens between words)
    The JPEG files look fine in Explorer and in Photoshop, and in the thumbnail while they are uploading. As soon as they are uploaded however the colour is stripped out and the image goes a rubbishy green hue.
    I have checked the Action using the single steps and it looks okay.
    I would be very grateful if anyone can advise how I might be able to do this job using an automated batch?
    For what it's worth I've inserted both images here where they both look fine. The third image below is a screenshot from them both side by side once uploaded into the website. My website provider is saying that this is an entirely Photoshop issue so they cannot help.

    That second example is a ProPhoto file viewed without color management. Always convert to sRGB for web, because that displays roughly correctly even in a non-color managed web browser.
    Then, for color managed browsers like Firefox and Safari, you should also embed the profile. Both are set in the SFW dialog:
    Web browser color management is all over the map, and a separate subject. You should always assume that the files will be viewed without color management, and prepare for both. In short: convert to sRGB > embed the profile. That's the best you can do.

  • Batch rename in automator with step

    I'd like to rename a large number of files in Automator with alternate numbers. For example, files 1-10 would be renamed 1,3,5,7,9,11 etc, and 2-10 would be renamed 2,4,6,8,10,12 etc. I'm familiar with rename finder items but cannot think of a way to make it rename with alternate numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try BatchRename'Em - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.

  • Batch Automation, can it create multiple folders?

    using CS2...I know how to create actions and use the Batch Automation thing but not sure how or if this is possible...
    I have a ton of folders in one folder. inside each folder are a bunch of TIF files. I want to create an action to run as a batch to open that TIF, convert it to JPG then save in a separate folder with the same name in another folder. Basically im duplicating what I have in one folder to another folder with one being the original TIFs and the new set being JPG, all in folders of the same names.
    Basically I know how to do all of this except when I set up the batch, it seems to only allow the new JPGs to be saved in a single folder. It can pull all the TIFs using the "include subfolders" in the source section but only places the new/revised file into a single folder. If this makes and sense, can it be done?

    Lark:
    Bob's undoubtedly right. You can do this from bridge. To mirror the structure you duplicate it, action it (from Bridge?) and then you're done. To do it with Photoshop:
    1. Duplicate structure ("Big folder" becomes "Big folder copy"). Save "Big folder" as backup.
    2. Make an action by opening one of your pics, and then recording an action. Save as JPEG with the settings as you want. Stop recording. Close window and delete test JPEG.
    3. Automate...batch. Use your new action. Source is folder "Big folder copy". Make sure to select "embedded folders". Don't check anything else in the source area. Destination is "Save and close" and make sure to check the "override save options" box.
    4. Run it. Then you should be able to use Spotlight to search for all .tif files in folder "Big folder copy" and delete them from Spotlight.
    I'm sure this is much slicker some other way (maybe even with image processor). But it works.

  • ITunes 10.5 breaks automator folder action

    Just like itunes10 did
    osx 10.6.8
    itunes 10.5
    automator folder action with itunes tasks no longer works after 10.5 update.
    Is it the version check again?

    Unfortunately, it seems that this is a cross-platform problem between iTunes 10.5 and all NAS disks. Shared libraries on network drives worked fine under 10.4.1, but now there is just an endless loading cycle with no error message or time-out. There is a bit more about it in this thread.

  • Batch processing with filename filter

    Hi guys,
    Does anyone have any idea how to run a specific action in batch along with a filename filter?
    My problem is I have a folder with subfolders ie...  0001, 0002, 0003, 0004 etc   all these folders have approx 100 jpg files with the same filenames in each.
    a sample of my images are: landscape-oraange.jpg , landscape-blue.jpg , landscape-red.jpg , portrait-orange.jpg etc etc
    I was wonder of a way to just run the specific batch action on filenames containing a certain word, for instance to apply to all files containing the word "landscape" and exclude all other files.
    I cannot copy all files under the subfolders to a seperate folder and run this way... as all filenames are the exact same as the other folders.
    Does anyone have any advise?
    Thanks again guys,   Jamie.

    This might provide not quite what you are looking for but something similar.
    Insert the correct Action and Set names in the line
    app.doAction("Action 3", "Set 1")
    and change the variable theIdentifier to the name part you want to use as a criterium.
    This would work only if there are no spaces in the names by the way.
    // 2012, use it at your own risk;
    #target photoshop
    // select folder;
    var theFolder = Folder.selectDialog ("select folder");
    if (theFolder) {
    // define the name part to look for;
    var theIdentifier = "Untitled";
    var theFiles = theFolder.getFiles(new RegExp(theIdentifier+"\\S*.(jpg|tif|eps|psd)$", "i"));
    // work through the files;
    for (var m = 0; m < theFiles.length; m++) {
    // open image;
    var theImage = app.open(theFiles[m]);
    // perform action;
    app.doAction("Action 3", "Set 1")

  • Is batch automation possible in lightroom?

    I'm converting about 800 pictures from color to black and white for a bible study that will be printed . Ive tried several ways of converting using modes and techniques I found on other sites in photoshop but wasnt happy with results. These pictures are of landscapes and people. They all seemed either fuzzy or detail was lost so I decided to give Lightroom a try. I found lots of presets in the adobe marketplace for b & w conversion and wanted to know if batch automation was possible once I found one that I was happy with.

    WMMinistry wrote:
    Which preset works best for black and white conversion of portraits?
    That will depend on each image really, just experiment to find the one that works best for your purposes, it will depend on the file type as well - some are developed for raw and others for jpeg or tiff files. You can undo the application of a preset easily withe the usual undo command. Try testing on a Virtual Copy of one image.

  • Automator Folder Action Not Running

    I have created a simple automator folder action that helps me to keep my downloads folder organized.    I want to move various files with certain file exensions to specific folder.
    I am finding the process to be intermittantly successful.   Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not run.      I've looked in activity monitor but do not see the automator launcher process running.   I think that is why I am having issues.   At other times, when it does run,  the workflow hangs and I have to kill Automator Runner.
    Any ideas on helping me with automator folder actions?
    Thank you,
    Jerold

    What does Finder -> select folder -> Control-Click -> Services -> Folder Actions Setup say about your existing folder action?
    Are folder actions enabled in the setup window?
    Is your folder action attached to your folder?
    For diagnostics, create a very simple Automator folder action (such as "Ask for Confirmation"; it does not need to make sense, it just needs to be something that you can use to verify the folder action occurred), and attach that to any folder. If that works, build up to making your PDF action work.

  • Automator Folder Action

    I have an Automator Folder action attached to my Downloads folder which moves any .jpg file to another folder where I normally place my images. It works for a while (automatically moving the .jpg files whenever a file is placed in the Downloads folder) and then stops fopr no apparent reason. On occassion when I logoff and on or restart, the action will work for a limited time.
    I don't have much experience with Automator and even less with Applescript. Any help will be much appreciated.
    I use an iMac with OS X 10.9.2.
    Thanks.

    Sorry... this is not an answer to your problem. More like an addition to your question.
    How do you attach an Automator Workflow as a folder action?
    I've made a Workflow to copy all files from an iTunes' playlist to a USB device, I want it to automatically run whenever I plug in the USB device. I've left-clicked the icon for the USB device and then "attach folder action", but I don't see any script to run an Automator Workflow.

  • Using Automator with Disk Utility

    I'm new to using Automator. I want to create a work flow with Disk Utility but is doesnt appear in the applications list. How do I make Disk Utility work with Automator?

    If a program doesn't appear in the list, that means that Apple hasn't written actions for it yet.
    You can still use Automator with Disk Utillity, but you will need to use Applescript and the 'Run Applesript' action to operate Disk Utillity.
    Unfortuately the 'how' is beyond my knowledge, and the scope of this post.

  • Automator with Address Book Problem

    Hey,
    I am trying to remove this string of text that has been plastered to the Note of every contact of mine for some odd reason. I am trying to use Automator with the Filter Address Book Items action. I am able to collect all of those people in Automator, however I can't seem to figure out the next step which is removing the selected person's Note's. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Mikey, I saw something in the forums a while ago that might meet your needs. The thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1645258&%231645258 contains a script that might do what you need. If I understand the code correctly it goes through all contacts and clears the Notes field. In the meantime I'll see if I can devise an Automator solution.

  • Frequency Analysis - batch automation Query

    Hi,
    I was wondering if its possible within adobe audition to automate a process of performing frequency analysis on a batch of audio files and saving the frequency analysis windows in individual bmp files?
    There is a file batch utility which I am aware of for processing groups of files. However with the frequency analysis window - the only way of saving this window is by Alt-PrintScreen and manually saving file to another bitmap package.
    Is anyone aware of a way/system/tools of achieving this ?
    Thanks for any suggestions

    There's no way of doing this within Audition, but I think that there are external batch process programs that might let you do this using Audition - if you see what I mean. I don't personally do things like that, but maybe somebody who does could recommend one? Alternatively, and probably rather a better bet, re-ask the question on the AudioMasters forum. You are more likely to get a meaningful response, quite frankly.
