Battery isn't charging on my Satellite A350-220

Hey, I have a HUGE list of problems (some that can't be fixed) on my laptop that's 5 months old but let's start with the most urgent problem.
The battery isn't charging all the time. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, it's quite random... Sometimes it even says it's charging but it isn't. It just stays at 30% for example.
I have windows 7 and newest bios. Tried rebooting, placing battery after boot with cable and no battery etc. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Tried reinstalling drivers. Nothing.

> How to make the laptop charge the battery properly?
It is always easier to ask something like this as get proper answer.
Be honest what can you do about it? You can start your notebook on AC power supply only and when OS is loaded you can put battery in place in hope battery load will starts.
If this will not help there is maybe some problem with power supply electronic and this must be fixed by authorized personal only.

  • Battery isn't charging after reset smc...

My battery won't charge even after smc reset and I have the charging light when I connect power dim.  With pressing option and pressing status in battery it says condition:normal. I have done and nvram reset. Nothing. Status says that battery isn't charging and I have done only 344 cycles charge. The macbook (late 2009) works correctly when on power only. Please can you help me?

My apologies. I now see there is a battery forum. I can't seem to delete my own question however.

  • Battery isn't charging, randomly crashes

Currently my battery isn't charging (at all).
Before this instance, I had to plug and unplug the magsafe a couple of times before it eventually started charging. Unfortunately, I tried another adapter and it also took a few tried before the laptop started charging.
I just got done resetting SMC and PRAM, so that didn't help any.
Also, my laptop has started to completely shut off without warning. Sometimes the battery indicator claims it has charge, other times it says it is completely empty (even though it is actually full when I get the charger to play nice with it).
    Here's the details from Profiler:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 1410
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 6288
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 543
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1535
    Voltage (mV): 10934
Side Note: The lappy isn't under warrantee anymore so I was hoping to avoid a trip to the Genius Bar.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  • My MacBook Pro is plugged in and running on power from the power adaptor, but the battery isn't charging - what do I do?

The magnetic charger and port are clear and clean and clicking into place smoothly.
My Mac has had 2% power for the past few hours but is running on power from the power adaptor.
But the battery isn't charging - what do I do?
    Thanks!

Depending on the model of MBP, buy a new battery or take it in for servicing to get a new battery.  You could also try an SMC reset to see if that helps, but your symptoms don't sound like the ones normally solved by a SMC reset.

  • Battery isn't charging... PLEASE HELP!

    Hi all,
The problem is pretty much in the title.
The charger is plugged in with ~6% battery life left. It is running on power from the mains, but it says that it isn't charging.
For the exact message: "Plugged in, not charging"
Why is it doing this and how can i fix it?
Thank you for any help given!

THis is also happening to my computer.  The same exact issue.  My computer is three weeks old.  I didn't notice a problem withn my computer until I unplugged it and tried to use it and it shut off.  I noticed the batery had 0% charge.  I contacted HP and they did the battery diagnostic and it showed a bad battery.  They sent a new battery and I plugged it in to charge.  It is a week later and now I checked to see if it is at 100% (its been plugged in for four days without unplugging, and shutting it down at night, giving it all night to charge while off) and the battery is now at 18% and reading "Plugged in, Not charging."  It isn't draining the power, since apparently its running off the plug, but it is not charging. New battery, same problem.  I am trying to get HP to help, but haven't heard back from the person that has been emailing me.

  • Battery isn't charging, what's the problem?

I'm having problems with my battery again (3rd time, yay!). This started yesterday, everything was peachy the day prior. Can anyone assist? (hoping this is some silly operator error...)
-The power is failing when the AC adaptor is unplugged, but the menu bar says I have 10% battery charge left.
-The battery is not charging when the AC adaptor is connected. The light is on, but I checked in System Profiler. It recognizes the battery is installed but says it isn't charging. (yes, the outlet is live)
-I tried both cords for the AC adaptor.
    *Battery Info from System Profiler*
    Full Charge mAh: 2444
    Remaining Charge mAh: 256
    Cycle Count: 149
This is my 3rd battery for this notebook. The first one was recalled, the replacement failed shortly after and I bought the current one in May '08. (Serial: 3K8080HJT70C) What am I doing wrong?
Oh yeah, and my AC charger is new (6 months).

First, the battery. The recalled battery replacements have not held up well, and, unfortunately, feedback on the Apple site isn't what I would call complementary about their batteries. When I replaced mine, I got a Newer Technology battery from OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAP17AL60RS/ . Mine has 104 cycles on it and 4113 mAh capacity.
Now, charging. There are only 4 components in the charging circuit: Power adapter, DC-in card, battery and logic board. It sounds like your power adapter, being newer, is probably fine. Where the power adapter plugs into the computer, is that jack loose? If you put a pen or pencil on it and push it a little, gently, does it wiggle side-to-side? If so, your DC-in card may be bad. Assuming the battery stats are good and the battery is good, it should charge. Sooo, last but not least, is the logic board. Probably the best thing you can do is find a friend with a Powerbook or visit an Apple store or Apple authorized service provider to use another power supply that they know works (just to be sure) and a substitute battery (again, to be sure). If indeed yours are good, and I went through this a few months ago with one of our Powerbooks, you can replace the DC-in card, and if that doesn't work, then the logic board.
If you want Apple to do that, have them send it to the Apple depot, where they'll do whatever is required to put the Powerbook in close to new condition. Put an old, bad, Apple battery in it, so they'll replace it. Cost runs around $350 if the case isn't banged up, and if it is, the price can go up. When ours went in, they replaced the logic board and put a new battery in. Of course ensure your data is backed up, and if anything is really confidential, move it onto an encrypted disk on your hard drive or back it up and delete it.
If you have the store replace the logic board, it will run you more than double what they charge to send it to the depot.

  • Battery isn't charging - Thinkpad E531

    Dear Lenovo,
I was using Windows 7 but I have recently changed to Windows 8.1.
In Win7 I was able to install and use the Lenovo Power Management software and I changed the battery threshold to 40-50%.
After I installed Win8.1, I realized there is not any E531 Power Management software for Windows 8.1 therefore I cannot charge my battery above 50%.
It looks like the power management software makes somekind of hardware related changes otherwise it should not remember my previous settings what I made it in Win7.
How can I change the thresholds without reinstalling windows 7 and power management software?
Could you give me a link to a usable Thinkpad E531 Power Management software for Windows 8.1 (which is 100% working)?
    Any other solution?
    Thank you!

  • The battery isn't charging

    Hi,
    I have a Probook 4535s with Windows 7 installed.
My battery stopped charging. The computer doesn't recognize that AC is plugged in when the battery is inserted. I tried to reinstall battery drivers and also ran a Battery Check, which said that the battery was ok, but I had to plug the charger in for more precise results.
When I take the battery out, the notebook turns on and works fine.

    Hi,
    I have two recommendations:
    1) Go to a command line with admin priveleges. Type in  sfc \scannow and press enter to let the sfc utility run.  SFC is the Window 7 system file checker.  The Window 7 system file checker will  inspect all system files and replace files it deems to be corrupt or otherwise damaged with a fresh copy from the operating system's own file repository. There does exist the possibility that one or more of your operating system's system files is corrupt and is preventing the Battery control and charging methods to not work properly.
    2) Update the BIOS to the current version. There have been quite a few enhancements made to correct issues that have to do with the battery and external power. Here is a link to the web support portal for your notebook.
Please post your  negative or positive results in your thread.

  • Battery isn't charging nor is power light

I'm in a pickle. My current 14" iBook battery is about dead. It only holds for about 30 minutes. Over the weekend it simply stopped charging more than 66% and the iBook power light isn't even catching that it's charging or not charging. Giving me a green light all the time.
I had a new battery arrive last Thursday, but the exterior plastic was cut wrong so it wouldn't fit into the battery slot. That was returned, but they have no idea when new 14" iBook G4 batteries will come in. Not even a clue.
Is it safe to keep the dying or dead battery in the iBook or should it be removed leaving the bottom exposed?
    Mike

Some people have reported reviving the battery by starting up in Open Firmware and resetting the PRAM and NVRAM there.
Start up into Open Firmware by pressing and holding the Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram
    Press Return.
When prompted for your password, enter it and press the Return key.
    It responds OK.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all
    Press Return.
The reset-all command should restart your Mac. If so, you have successfully reset the Open Firmware settings. (This procedure has been reported to breathe life back into a dead battery.)

  • Battery is not charging on my Satellite A110

6 months ago my adapter stopped working. I replaced it with a universal one that worked well for some time. Then I got a problem.
When I connect the adapter to the laptop the blue light indicating power supply burns ok. The battery light turns orange for 10 sec, then it goes off, and again 10 sec on. After these last 10 seconds is goes off and stays off.
It does this when the computer is on and when it is off. In the windows task bar is says ""battery not charging "". I bought a new battery. I could load the new battery and after some time the problem occurred again. Then the laptop worked fine for two weeks and no it is giving the same problem again.
Does someone have any idea what this could be? Adapter? (I tried several ones with the right voltage and amperage, battery (both original and new battery give the same problem) or motherboard?

    Hi mate
BIOS update might help. Not sure if this solution would apply to your A110 Satellite but it worth a try
However, it`s also important that you would use a original and compatible AC adaptor. The usage of wrong AC adaptor could affect the battery charging and it could be possible that after some time of usage, the battery could damage
I think the motherboard issue might be possible too but in my opinion the usage of compatible and original parts is essential.

  • Battery is not charging on my Satellite 3000-x4

    Hi
I have a Satellite 3000-x4 that dosn't seem to charge the battery. Have already tried new ones but they do not charge, Indicater light flashes but will not charge.
    Any suggestions.

    hi keith267,
i have a sat3000 too! which cpu you have in it?
2 reasons for this issue are possible:
a cheap one and an expensive one... lets see what we can do!
    - make sure that your ac-adaptor is good
    therefor run machine without battery!
led flashing or is it constantly on? when flashing you got a problem....
    on? good!
wont start or shuts down: ac-adaptor is gone... cheap one done (app.40?)
    - run your machine with batt only
    ok? good!
wont run or shuts down immediatly: battery training is recommended
therefor start a dos system without ac power and let it run "dry"
after that try reloading with ac power, do this 5 times to train your battery
    ok afterwards? good!
no? thats the bitter pill to take
    - insert battery and connect ac power
when your machine boots up und runs, half the job is done
led still blinking? yes? you need a new powermodule for your machine...
thats the bad thing: it's on the mainboard and cant be changed wothout changing the mainboard...
if you have no luck with this procedures you may have mine instead ;-)

  • My new battery isn't charging.  My mac didn't recognize the battery even after charging it for almost 3 hours.  Turns on and then turns right off even with the power plugged in so I took out the battery to type here.

Just got a new battery.  I put it in and computer worked for a few minutes and shut down.  I thought okay it needs to charge.  Left it charging for three hours and tried turning on my computer and it came on, didn't recognize the battery and then turned off.  So I have taken it out so I can type this question and ask for help.  Help.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi!
I think that it could be for 2 reasons: or the battery is defectuous or that's a SMC problem.
I guess that your mac is an Intel-based. So try to reset the SMC, it's explained at this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US.
If it doesn't work, try to update the SMC firmware, but I think that if you could use your old battery it hasn't to be necessary...

  • Battery Isn't Charging

I have my computer plugged in and the light is green, but the batter is not charging. Every once in awhile, it is plugged in but no lights appear on the plug. Anybody have any ideas?

What MacBook do you have a core duo or a C2D?
Check and see if you have battery update 1.3 installed. Try these two locations for it. It will be one or the other. Right click on the bundle and check *Get Info* a window will open and you can check the version there.
    MacBook/Library/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater.bundle
    MacBook/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater.bundle
Leopard(10.5.1) and Tiger(10.4.11) installs it. It is the MacBook Pro update.
If it is 1.3 drag it to the trash and then reboot. After you reboot you will be able to empty the trash. Once you have done that run software update and it should install Battery Update 1.2. You should reset the SMC (System Management Controller) after doing this.

  • My battery isn't charging, and when I unplug my power cord, it immediately dies.  There is an "X" inside the battery icon, and the power cord light is green...how can I fix this?

    Hi,
I bought a Macbook Pro last February, and this is the first time this issue has occurred.  My computer has been working fine, but this morning the battery icon is showing a big "X" through it, and when I unplug my power cord, the computer shuts off.  Also, the power cord light is green, which I take to mean that it can't be charged anymore.  How can I fix this?
    Thanks!!

I had similar issue with one of the macbooks in the office. Make sure you've got latest firmware installed (run Software Update). This resolved the issue for us instantly (you may need to reboot mac AFTER firmware upgrade for this to work).

  • Ibook G4 - battery isn't charged while computer is off or on standby

Bought myself a new battery for ibook G4 (14 inch, 2004) because it's still working quite alright.
Problem is that even if battery is completely unloaded (3%), it isn't recharged when switched off or when it is on standby. Whereas there is no such problem when ibook is switched on and on duty. Any idea?

    Try PMU PRAM reset.
