My MacBook Pro is plugged in and running on power from the power adaptor, but the battery isn't charging - what do I do?

The magnetic charger and port are clear and clean and clicking into place smoothly.
My Mac has had 2% power for the past few hours but is running on power from the power adaptor.
But the battery isn't charging - what do I do?
Thanks!

Depending on the model of MBP, buy a new battery or take it in for servicing to get a new battery.  You could also try an SMC reset to see if that helps, but your symptoms don't sound like the ones normally solved by a SMC reset.

  • HT201257 Hi -- I have a late 2011 13" macbook pro that shipped with and runs Lion. Unfortunately, I do not have the install disks with me. Holding down D key does nothing. What can I do?

How can I run the hardware test on a macbook pro that SHIPPED with lion (never had an earlier OS) without access to the install disks? I am away from them and home for several months. Holding down the D key does nothing.

Press "Option" and "D" key together.
"Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts. After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and “D” keys."

Most likely won't run SL unless it's one that was released before Lion went public. Color SL gone from new Macs.

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? If you did, did you use the Boot Camp Control icon to set up the trackpad how you want it?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your hard disk is damaged. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 Alternatively, you can use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone onto an external disk.
Then, look for a hard drive. You can use a 2'5" SATA hard drive, and you can buy it at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ Seagate and HGST drives have good performance, and 7200 rpm hard drives will give you a slightly better performance.
After installing it, start up from the clone (if you made a clone) or hold Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting (if you created a backup). In the second case, you just have to choose the option to restore a Time Machine backup and follow the steps.
In the case of a clone, use Disk Utility's Restore feature to restore the external drive content onto the internal disk > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html You may need to format the hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"

  • Dear Community, i recently bought a macbook pro with retina display and i have been seeing some issues lately regarding the headphones output , even though the headphones are plugged in the output shifts to external speakers again again , help needed

i need help or a working solution , apple call here

Luckily I reinstalled the software and the problem just disappeared , and now for all those facing the same problem after reinstalling mountain lion don't update to 10.8.1 , cause only after that update earlier was when the problem started showing up , along with that don't reinstall lion using your recovery on your harddrive it takes 23 hours to install because it downloads the software first and then does all the installation so just download the app for mountain lion from the AppStore first and then make a bootable USB installation disk out of it , I'm sure you'll find a tutorial on google on how to make a recovery USB out of it , as for your data and stuff I moved all my stuff to an external hard drive and then performed a reinstall I recommend you do the same . The steps are simple after making the USB insert it and then reboot when the computer turns itself on press the alt/option key and then their will be a list of options there you will see your mt lion USB boot into it , select disk utility and then your Macintosh HD , WARNING IN THIS STEP YOU WILL ERASE YOUR HARD DRIVE COMPLETELY MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP ALL YOU DATA BEFORE PERFORMING THIS STEP I WON'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DATA LOSS DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, so choose your drive , go to the erase tab choose Mac os extended journaled usually the first option from the drop down menu and name it Macintosh HD again click on erase and then after thats done close the utility , now select the option to install mt lions copy from the first menu and then chose your Macintosh HD that we erased eirlier and install, it takes about 20-40 mins depending on your Mac and then viola the problem will disappear , well at least it did for me . Here is the link on HOW TO MAKE A LION RECOVERY USB

Hope This Would Definetly Work For you =D...........

I have inherited an ICloud account from one of my employers when transferring from old MacBook Pro (which belonged to them) to new MacMini and need to separate from this, presumably by setting up a new ICloud account.  How do I do this ?  And is there any danger, in doing so, that I might delete any of her ICloud information ?

Sign out in System Preferences>iCloud. This will remove any synced data such as Calendars, emails and Contacts from your Mac, but will have no effect on the data on the server - so that other devices logged into it will continue to see the data.

  • My macbook pro 15 inch with retina running mavericks disconnects from the wifi when I put it to sleep.

I shut the lid and go to open the lid and the wifi is disconnected and the only way to connect to the wifi is to turn it off then back on and connect to my wifi. This is the only wifi that it happens with.

    Hello strubthepigeon
Check out the article below for that particular issue. I have also highlighted on what to do to troubleshoot the issue.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    ▪ After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
    ▪ After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".

Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
    Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

I need to work on my computer now... and the store is closed, that is why I am using this site to see if someone has a quick solution.
Why in the world Mac makes a computer with a battery that is not easy to pull out or rest???. Should I unscrew the bottom cover and try to remove the battery? Is there a reset button?

  • Hi, after that crash of my MacBook Pro I download again Lightroom 5 with my license serial number removed , but the system say that my number is wrong, but is not. What shall I do???, thanks

Hi, after that crash of my MacBook Pro I download again Lightroom 5 with my license 1160-4006-5882-6826-4588-7623, but the system say that my number is wrong, but is not. What shall I do???, thanks

You probably downloaded the Lightroom Creative Cloud version. Your Perpetual License key will not work.
Uninstall the existing version of Lightroom, this process will not affect your Catalog, Preferences or personal files.
Then download the correct version from the link below, install and enter the license. Every thing should be just fine. (Also by displaying your License Key for all to see anyone can use it to have a free copy of the program)

  • HT1725 My first time purchasing, downloading and watching a movie from itunes worked fine but the second did not!  An error (unknown error 50) kept coming up no matter how often I tried resuming the download or restarting my laptop and internet connection

My first ever purchase and download of a movie was successful but the second didn't download and came up with
"error 50 has occured".  I tried downloading numerous times again after checking my internet connection and rebooting my
laptop.  Still no luck and the Itunes store have charged me.  Any suggestions please?

This error can be quite common:

  • How can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

how can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

If the machine is asleep, lid closed, and you plug in to an external monitor and an external USB keyboard, the machine will wake, anbd reconfigure the screen resolution for the external monitor, Once it has made this configuration change, you can open the lid and it will continue to address only the external monitor.  At least that's how my early MacBook Pro unibody 13" works. It seems to run a bit cooler this way. It gets quite toasty with the lid closed while doing anything demanding and you are more likely to hear the fan come on.  I have not seen any temps that would cause alarm, but I do get a high speed (6000 rpm), noisy fan sometimes with the lid closed, .
If you operate in the open-lid, external monitor only mode, if you deactivate the monitor for any reason, when it reactivates it will be running both screens, with all the navigation hassles this entails, so I generally set it not to deactivate the screen when in this mode.
Thus I agree with those who say that some of the cooling air is drawn in around the keyboard, the difference in cooling performance is observable.  If you activate istat pro, get the computer hot running in clamshell mode, and open the lid, you can watch the CPU temp drop by a few degrees C within a couple minutes.  It isn't a huge difference, but enough the lower the fan speeds.
