Bean meanged persistence

I am trying to execute EJB example on bean managed persistence from the book
It give me this error:

I tried examples from the net but same error shows up
please help me regarding this

• Bean-managed persistence (BMP) in EJB 3.0

I've been on the google for a few days now and haven't found one single notion on bean-managed persistence in EJB 3.0 specification. Even the official specification PDFs don't mention it :(
Help! I need BMP! Does anybody know what's the situtation in EJB 3.0? Can I and how mark an entity bean to be bean-managed persistent and use ejbLoad and ejbStore functions like in the EJB 2.0 or something like that?
Tnx in advance,
Igor

Tnx Frank, I was afraid of that :(
I think that is a step back for the EJB technology. Now it is fixed to the table structure, every change in the database calls for a re-desing, re-compilation and re-deplyoment.
With BMP in EJB 2.1 one was able to build a bean that modifies itself according to the table structure dinamically. Is there any way to do it in EJB 3.0?

• Bean-managed persistence?

Hi,
Can someone explain to me if there is a diffetent between bean managed persistence and bean managed transaction?
Or where I can read about it?

sun has several articles about both of these concepts. You can probably find them via an Internet search. Here is one of the documents:

• Bean-Managed vs. Container-Managed Persistence

Hello,
I would like the real world skinny on bean-managed persistence vs. container-managed persistence. I have heard the bean-managed offers higher scalability and performance, while container-managed offers simplicity but with a cost. Can someone give me some perspective?
Thanks,
Rob Miller

Wrong forum, but I guess if you are new to java it could be argued that anything goes...
General rule:
use CMP if you don't have worries about speed or legacy systems.
use BMP if you need to control the persistence and/or want to connect to legacy host systems. BMP allows you to set up caching and transaction handlers to handle the presistence in a manner more suited to your needs.

• How to add a finder method in the container manager Bean in the weblogic6.1

in the environment jbuilder6 andweblogic6.1,use container manager entity Bean,it can automatic generate the findAll() method,I want to add a new method to find an element in the home interface,such as findByName(),name is a element of a table of the database.in the weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml,this is part of the fiile:
<finder>
<finder-name>findAll</finder-name>
<finder-query> (= 1 1) </finder-query>
</finder>
<finder>
<finder-name>findByName</finder-name>
<finder-param>java.lang.String</finder-param>
<finder-query> (=name $name) </finder-query>
</finder>
It can successfully compile the findAll(),but it is wrong when compile the findByName(),as follows
"www.ejbgrpx": Method Name: findByName
"www.ejbgrpx": Invalid specifications for a WebLogic RDBMS CMP EJB.
"www.ejbgrpx": ERROR: Error from ejbc: weblogic.ejb20.cmp11.rdbms.finders.IllegalExpressionException:
"www.ejbgrpx": While trying to process Finder
"www.ejbgrpx": Parameter Types: (java.lang.String)

"www.ejbgrpx": Finder Expressions: ()
"www.ejbgrpx": Could not parse WLQL expression: (= name $name) null
"www.ejbgrpx": ERROR: ejbc found errors
thank you

The finder methods that you are referring to are only simple finder methods. If you would like to add specialized finder methods, you can make your entity bean with bean managed persistence and not container managed. If you are using EJB 2.0, your entity bean with container managed persistence can use EJB QL for finder methods. You can search for this topic and/or download the EJB 2.0 specifications
Hope this helps

• Problem while invoking a Stateless Session bean from another bean

Hi,
I have a peculiar problem while coding with Stateless Session beans. Maybe you guys can help me out over here. The scenario is as follows
There are 3 Stateless Session beans. Let Us say Bean A, B and C. There are three methods, method1, method2, and method3 inside A, B and C respectively.
From A.method1(), B.method2(), and C.method3() are being invoked sequentially. Each of these methods does some JDBC operation and then returns.
The problem is this, if C.method3() throws and exception, then I am unable to rollback the changes made by B.method2(). Those changes get "Committed" to the database.
All the 3 beans have Bean managed persistence property set. I am using WebSphere 6.1.
Any insight on why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks In Advance
Amardeep Verma

Hi,
This is a matter of calling all three methods in the same transaction context. Most easy way of doing this is having a 4th session bean containing a method calling the other 3. Make sure that the Transaction Attributes are REQUIRED, which is the default.
If the calls a to different backends/databases, you need global transactions and therefor XA complient database and drivers.

• Error While deploying Entity Bean

Hi,
We are using JDeveloper 3.2.2 to deploy EJB into Oracle 9ias (Oracle 8.1.7 database). The following error occured while deploying entity bean.

Thank you Raghu, We were in a position to deploy the entity bean to the database. We solved the problem by adding the following parameters to the init.ora file
(a) Java_max_sessionspace_size
(b) java_soft_sessionspace_limit
When I tried to create an EJB for a table in another schema, it started deploying the BC4J to that schama also. Is it necessary that BC4J should deploy in all the schemas of the database ? Can I deploy BC4J to one schema and grant required permissions to others users or create public synonym for BC4J ? Can you please tell me how I can deploy BC4J globally for an instance of Oracle (Applicable to all the schemas in that instance) ?

• How to specify JDBC Oracle url using deployment tool - Entity Bean

Hello I'am new to EJB.
When creating a entity bean-managed persistence and you need to specify the jdbc url with user name
and password to establish a connection object, how does one specify that in the deployment
tool?
Heres an example of what has in the J2EE tutorial has in AccountEJB to get an connection object
private String dbName = "java:comp/env/jdbc/AccountDB";
private void makeConnection() throws NamingException, SQLException {
InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
DataSource ds = (DataSource) ic.lookup(dbName);
con = ds.getConnection();
Now if my oracle jdbc url is to be jdbc:oracle:thin:@Abe:1521:dev
ie My host is Abe, port number 1521 and database name of dev and username/password will be system/manager.
what would my dbName be at the top?
Would my JNDI lookup of a DataSource resource "java:comp/env/jdbc/AccountDB" become "java:comp/env/jdbc/dev" for starters?
In the Resource Factories Reference Code I've add a reference of
Coded Name: jdbc/dev
Type: javax.sql.DataSource
Authentication: Container
and down the bottom of the I've put JNDI Name: MyAccount
according to the AccountClient code of:
Context initial = new InitialContext();
Object objref = initial.lookup("MyAccount");
and put User Name of "system" and Password of "manager"
I'am sure in the source code I have to put
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver")
else you would get that no sutitable driver error, maybe you don't have to if ejb server is smart enough?
What I'am confuse about is where to specify the jdbc url of "jdbc:oracle:thin:@Abe:1521:dev" ??
Know it won't work because of this vital part. Do you have to put that somewhere else in the deployment tool or properties file, or some other tool??
Please help
Thanks

• Problem while deploying entity beans

Hi,
We are using JDeveloper 3.2.2 (NT) and 8.1.7 (NT) to deploy EJB's.
Now we are trying to deploy the entity bean to Oracle JVM. We are facing the following problem while deploying an entity bean .
"Persistence provider declared in the deployment descriptor is not supported

*** Deployment completed ***"
We would appreciate if anyone could help us to solve this error.
null

Hi,
The error was coming because of the table structure. All the columns were composite keys. I alter the structured by removing composite keys and added a new column as primary key. Now it is getting deployed successfully.
Can anybody comment on such a behaviour of OC4J?

• Entity Bean Rollback fails: caches are out of synch with the database

We are encountering a critical issue where the rollback of a session transaction rolls back any database changes, but doesn't roll back bean changes in memory. When we next access the bean, it returns information that should have been rolled back. The memory cache is out of synch with the database.
We have a simple session bean S, using container managed transactions. We also have an entity bean E using bean managed persistence. E has a single member
.
We implement a method s() in S with <trans-attribute> Required as follows:
public void s() {
Context lookupContext = getLookupContext();
SHome shome = (SHome) lookupContext.lookup(SHome.NAME);
S s = shome.findByPrimaryKey(thePrimaryKey);
System.out.println("-- current name = " + s.getName());
s.setName("IGNORE");
EJBContext ejbContext = (EJBContext) getContext();
ejbContext.setRollbackOnly();
Since this is BMP, the setName call issues our SQL update against the S record. When the session transaction rolls back, the database changes are also rolled back. But the entity bean in memory shows the modified name. We can see this in the next call to s() since the getName() returns IGNORE rather than the original value. We have also gotten debugged into the underlying instance cache associated with the S bean descriptor. I.e.
AbstractEJBHome ejbHome = (AbstractEJBHome) lookupContext.lookup(SHome.NAME);
AlternateHashTable aht = ejbHome.getBeanDescriptor().getCache();
Looking at this map of bean instances also shows that the bean instance for S is not rolled back.
From previous conversations with the server technologies team, we understand that during the transaction, we should be working on a cloned copy of the S bean. Upon rollback, the copies should be discarded rather than merged back to the cached bean. They seem to be merged regardless of rollback state.
We are using OC4J 10.1.3.0.0 (build 060119.1546.05277).

Actually, what one or the developers in my group found out is two things:
1) The clone is a shallow copy.They copy the references but not objects themselves. This has been causing problems for us.
2) It seems that you don't work on a copy and you work on the original and they keep a copy. Now, this is fine IF you don't have multiple threads working on the same Entity bean and we moved our application from Weblogic where it throws an exception if that Entity bean is in use to OC4J which is suppose to copy the bean and doesn't so you have multiple threads possibly modifying the same object.

• Can CMT Session Bean call BMP Entity Bean in WebLogic 6.0?

Hi
Does anybody successfully use CMT Session Bean calling BMP +CMT Entity bean in
WebLogic6.0? I have the following problem.
Any idea will be appreciated.
--Winston
Let's say we have a Session bean SB, it uses container to manage the transaction.
A method of SB will call an Entity Bean EB which adopts bean-managed persistence.
Both SB and EB use CMT and all of their methods use "required" in the descriptor
file.
1. If the connection con.getAutoCommit() is true in the EB, then the transaction
within SB cannot be rolled back as the ejbCreate() has already commit into the
database.
2. On the other hand if Connecton of EB con.getAutoCommit() is false, then container
cannot successfully commit the transaction from SB's method, as EjbCreate and
EjbStore() in EB are likely using the different database connections, which causes
EbjStore() fail and the following error message will be sent to the Console:

We did receive a 4.5.1 / 5.1 interoperability patch - but it wasn't quite 'seamless'.
We never tried to use it.
SOAP? Isn't that around 50 times slower than RMI?

We ran into this issue last fall and got some feedback from weblogic
support. They originally said that it could be done (as well as different
versions talking to one another via JMS) but it turned out that they
were
incorrect and ended up saying that it is not possible. Before 6.0 went
GA,
BEA said that there would be a interoperability patch to do this, but
I've
never seen nor heard of anything regarding it. As a workaround, we
implemented 4.5.1 / 6.0 communication via SOAP.

I have the same question - and more. Last year we were told that wecould
not use
RMI (and ejbs) between 4.5.1 and 5.1. Which seems kinda weird becauseI've
heard
of people using WL ejbs from Tomcat. This issue has caused us to avoidusing
WL ejbs in any future development which has any chance of ever beingused
by any
app server (WL included) that is not under the direct control of thedata
center.
I've been trying to convince the Architecture team here that we canuse WL
EJBs
and we can call them from other app servers - but can't seem to getany
supporting
statement from BEA (maybe I haven't tried hard enough).
Anyway, a response from BEA would be appreciated.

Is it possible to call a (stateless session) bean deployed in weblogic

Are there any limitations?

• EJB Persistence using cron job

We have a EJB based bean managed persistence classes that run on the app server. I want to use same classes using cron job.
How do I do that???
Tried to execute these classes thru following steps...
In side stand alone java class - main method create instance of the pmf and get persistence manager.
Start a tread and call JDO object using persistence manager.
getting whole bunch or errors like system-server-config.xml file not found. I am not able to create InitialContext outside app server.
Please give your suggestions. TIA

Why don't you use a J2EE based scheduler?

• Deploying Entity Bean

I am trying to deploy Entity Bean(Bean-Managed Persistence) using deploytool. But in halfway of deployment, I am getting an error.
Error Says "There was deployment error.java.rmi.ServerException:Remote Exception occured in server thread;nested exception is java.rmi.RemoteException:error while loading ejb.jar"
I am not getting why this error occurs.

I am using J2EE deploytool. We are not able to trap the exact cause of error. We have created a fresh bean without any problem yesterday.
