  • RE: Java-based Client for Forte/IIOP

    We have deployed an application using JDK 1.1.6,
    Swing 1.0.3, Visibroker 3.2, and Forte 3.0.G.2.
    We are also using Forte's Java Interoperability
    Service.
    We have a closely-held client base (i.e. not a
    million random yahoos off the internet), so we can
    secure a Java port between client and server and
    download a fairly significant client. The Java
    client is deployed with Sun's JRE (to control the
    environment) with the following configuration:
    2.6 MB JRE
    765 KB Forte.zip
    2.0 MB swingall.jar
    1.6 MB vbjtools.jar, vbjorb.jar
    100 KB application classes
    1) The Swing controls don't interoperate well
    with the AWT and Symantec widgets, especially in
    an internal frame. They paint slowly on top of
    each other, move jerkily, and paint before moving
    to the programmed coordinates so it looks silly.
    100% Swing controls play well with other Swing
    controls and are reasonably fast.
    2) We used Symantec Cafe 2.5a to paint the
    screens, and had some problems with the
    setLayout(null) on things like the Swing tab
    folder and split panel. Commenting out the line
    fixed it, but I'm hoping Cafe 3.0 will fix it (I
    have a person installing it but haven't gotten a
    report...)
    3) The initial search time to turn an IOR file
    into a reference is an annoying 10 seconds, and
    the first method call takes about 7 seconds, but
    after that is less than a tenth of a second.
    Haven't done any digging to find out why yet.
    4) If we were deploying this as an applet, we
    would probably use the IDL IIOP export--when using
    the Java Interoperability service, any method call
    seems to load the whole 765K across the
    line...class by class. Ugly. IDL just gets what
    it needs and is smaller.
    5) Also, if deploying as an applet, we wouldn't
    have to download the JRE or visibroker jar files,
    and would only download the swing and Forte IDL
    generated classes as needed, so it would be a much
    smaller footprint than the 7MB above. (Note:
    However, we would be at the mercy of the browser
    being used by client.) Different strokes for
    different folks...

    My worry is that Swing, while eloquently designed,
    represents an attempt to
    write a totally new display system which, at least
    in the case of my
    project, will run on top of Windows. I really like
    the Java (or a Java-like

    not seem that anyone on this forum has used Swing

  • Java-based Client for Forte/IIOP

    My project is evaluating tools to build the next version of order
    entry/production management system. The first version is written entirely
    in Forte.
    We are considering 3 options for the client:
    1.Visual J++/ORBIX COMet (WFC widgets)
    2. Visual Cafe / ORBIX for Java (Swing Widgets)
    3. GOFC (Good old Forte Client)
    The back-end will probably remain Forte/Oracle on Solaris.
    If anyone has experience with these tools I would like to hear from you.
    I've tried J++/WFC last week and it seems to be solid. I am curious if
    Swing is ready for prime time.

  • Workspace Error while granting permissions

    Hi-
    I need help on this error. An error window will pop up every time I right clicked on a report/folder at workspace and try to grant access to report/folder (as native admin). (Right click on report/folder and choose Properties)
    Recently I migrated the HSS and Essbase server into 931 while the BI still in 930, I used the CSSExportImport utilities to move over the user/group from old hss, my colleagues also created a script to mapped the old DN to the new DN record via SQL (native=111111 mapped into native=00000). With this CSS util and mapped script we can moved the newly created user with new DN to sync with security set workspace.
    Right now, the workspace is working, security is working, grouping security is working, individual accesses are working, everything is working. The only problem is I can't change/add/delete any access, while the old access still there and working.
    Below is the error msg.

    Hi user,
    Can you give us some information on the version you are using and your security setup? Are you using an external security provider? Because to me it sounds that you are using an external LDAP server.

    Odd behaviour - can you try either using the downloadable client if the javaFX client is the choice or vice versa. One of them should work.

  • Java EJB client "Can't connect to ORB" errors...

    I'm writing an application that is a Java EJB client application (no web
    stuff at all). Needless to say there are no examples of such an app in
    the samples dir, they are all web-based.
    My problem is that when I try to run my application (client calls a
    stateless session bean on the server and gets a "hello world" string
    back) I get a "Could not create the TestService bean:
    javax.naming.CommunicationException: Cannot connect to ORB [Root
    exception is org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE:   minor code: 1 completed:
    Maybe]" error.
    This is a very simple test, and I'm getting quite frustrated in trying
    to figure out what's actually wrong.
    Here's the client code (the bean on the server has been deployed into a
    module called achptestEjb, the bean name is TestService)
    TestService service = null;
    TestServiceHome home=null;
    String host = "localhost";
    String port = "12345";
    try {
    Properties env = new Properties();
    Context context=null;
    String jndiName="ejb/achptestEjb/TestService";
    System.out.println("JNDI name is "+jndiName);
    env.put
    ("java.naming.factory.initial","com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory");
    env.put("java.naming.provider.url", "iiop://"+host+":"+port);
    context = new InitialContext(env);
    The error comes when the new InitialContext is set with the properties
    in the env object.
    Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
    It would be a BIG help if iPlanet included one simple pure EJB client
    example. There are some of us out here who feel HTML is too limiting
    for complicated applications.

    I finally found the answer to my problem.... in the Ant script I had
    copied from another example, the "-iiop" was lacking in the ejbc
    arguments - almost all of the examples assume you'll be calling EJBs
    from within the container, instead of a stand-alone client, so they
    don't use that flag.
    Putting that "-iiop" flag into the ejbc arguments fixed everything.
    Thanks, Shivani, for pointing out what is now obvious but was
    mysterious.

    The unsatisfied link error should be because sapjco.jar cannot link to the sapjco.dll.
    I tried to simulate the problem by
    1) Opening a java perspective.
    2) Create a new 'java' project.
    3) Add libraries sapjco.jar from the path <Drive>:\Program Files\SAP\JDT\eclipse\plugins\com.sap.mw.jco\lib
    You will see sapjcorfc.dll in this path
    4)Add a new class file ,Wrote a sample jco code and executed and it worked..
    The key is to have the sapjcorfc.dll in the same directory as sapjco.jar
    I hope this helps

  • RFC Function Error: Cannot convert a value of 'MM/DD/YYYY' from type java.l

    hi experts,
    iam calling an RFC using SAP_JCO_Function. one of the input parameters is date which shud be in the format 'MM/DD/YYYY' but when i create a transaction property of data type DATETIME the format changes to " 2007-06-21 14:31:50 ". to refrain form passing this value at run time i have defined the transaction property as string and defaulted the value to MM/DD/YYYY.
    When i execute the RFC i get the error "Cannot convert a value of 'MM/DD/YYYY' from type java.l".
    Issue is with time field as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Avinash

    Hi
    You can use datefromxmlformat( datetime, toformat ) .
    in toformat you give: "MM/dd/yyyy" and in datetime you pass your xml format date like: 2007-06-21 T14:31:50.
    Try like this. Hope this may help you.
    Thanks

  • Cannot connect a Java GUI client to an EJB

    I am having problems trying to make a Java GUI client connect to an EJB. I am using JRun4.
    At first, I tried making the Java GUI client a part of the enterprise application that I am building (of which the EJB is a part of). I included the client as a Java module in the application.xml of the enterprise application.
    However, when I try to start the server, containing this application, I get an error saying:
    Application authentication required. Incorrect method call.
    Now when I try to execute the application from the console, it works fine except when it comes to the part when it has to connect to the EJB. At this point I get an java.lang.reflect.UndeclaredThrowableException. Here's the stack trace:

    Since the bean is local, I am using a local reference to the bean in the lookup in the code of the client:
    Object o = context.lookup("local/BeanTest")
    I tried to use:
    Object o = context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/BeanTest")
    and added an ejb-local-ref in the application-client.xml file of the client. But when I try executing the client in this case, I get an error saying:
    No such binding: ejb
    I wish someone can help me out with this. My main aim is to get the app client talk to the EJB. Thanks a lot in advance.

    I am not sure of a tool to view the JNDI tree. I have one in Weblogic console. But you can check the JNDI names with a small sample code.

            env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
            env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://localhost:7001");
            try {
                context   = new InitialContext(env);
                NamingEnumeration enum = context.listBindings("");
                while (enum.hasMore()) {
                    Binding binding = (Binding) enum.next();
                    System.out.println("Name: " + binding.getName());
                    System.out.println("Type: " + binding.getClassName());
                    System.out.println("Value: " + binding.getObject());

    Actually, you have NO CLUE what he's trying to doActually he said what he is trying to do in his posting. It's no mystery. But that's all the information that's available. If you know something that isn't posted here why not say so?
    Your reply was a snide, rude, "You're stupid for doing it that way" answerMy reply was neither snide nor rude and implied none of what you impute to it. It was a proper and constructive suggestion. You are entitled to disagree with it, but that doesn't justify this immoderate outburst.
    Bottom line is, you chose to be nastyBottom line is you're just making this up. You are imputing motives to me without evidence. Don't do that.
    You are the type of person that makes searching forums and posting questions for assistance a near waste of time.I doubt that you'll find many regulars here that would agree with that assertion. When you have made over 16,000 posts here over ten years as I have, come back and we'll discuss it some more.
    Go back to grade school and ...I suggest you try it yourself. You're not adding anything except noise to the discussion. Try curbing your temper, and while you're at it have a good look at the Code of Conduct for these forums. You're verging on personal abuse here.
    And, additionally, I've used ANT in the past. Batch files are FAR AND AWAY easier to set up.In your opinion. I disagree entirely, and I have eleven years' experience with Java to back it up.
    As for CLASSPATH, I haven't done anything about setting it beyond installing the JDK since about 1999, and it has a dot in it as we speak.
