Beginner Question. need opinion on using JMF

i am hoping to use JMF to have a audio/video chat session . it will be like there will be 5 PC's . and 1 PC will be streaming a video, the other 4 PC's will be showing it.
what i want to do is to draw lines or make some mark on the video thats been telecast (from the other 4 PC's), and that change to be shown on all 5 PC's
is this do-able ? and i hope my question was not confusing .

localpott wrote:
is this do-able ?Yes. JMF has the built-in capability to broadcast a stream to multiple participants simultaniously, and it works a lot like email. You just add a few more recipients to the list before you press send.
As for drawing on the video, that'd be relatively easy to do. You'd just need to develop a layering system, whereby a "bottom" layer renders the video frames, and the upper layer renders / modifies the drawing. You'd just then need to create a video "Effect" class that would grab the upper layer, render it on top of the current video frame, and then it would come out of the Processor with the drawing on it.

    If AT&T authorized the unlock and it was succcessfully completed, then you should be able to use your iPhone with any cell carrier in the Philippines that offers compatible GSM service. You'll need to get a SIM from that carrier.

  • Some questions while using JMF play mpeg-1 stream media?

    I use Helix server to provide unicast, and use JMF to play the stream media. But the JMF only play the audio stream transferred by rtp. I have used video palyers getVisualComponent() method to get Visual component and added it into the frame. But I get a pink screen. So I think some thing wrong with the video player.
    Who can give me an answer?
    1.     Whether JMF can play mpeg-1 video stream media?( Audio can be heard. Video stream comes to my computer but cant be displayed.)
    2.     Which method it should use to synchronize video stream and audio stream?
    BTW: In JMF, when the RTSP players start() method is invoked, the player creates players by the streams track numbers. Video stream and audio stream have different players.

    Try posting your question under the Java Media Framework forum instead.
    You'll get much better responses if you ask the right people !

    Hi all,
    I need opinion on whether the report produced using report painter and se38.
    Can i use se38 to modify a report which was produced by report painter?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You can change it thru SE38, but doesn't serve the purpose,
    if it's regenerated dynamically your code will be over-written &
    there's lot of overhead in change thru SE38.

    I'm sorry, but I know nothing about iCloud email. I stayed away from iCloud email and only use iCloud for limited purposes.
    But take a look at this discussion and read the response from randers4. He is one of the iCloud experts in the Apple Support Communities.

  • Beginner question - using pre for flexibility in text?

    Hi,
    Apologies for the beginner question, but I am struggling to work out whether it is more sensible to use <pre> in all my texts, as it seems more flexible.
    It seems that when I use <p> - paragraph - I can't use multiple space bars to align certain bits of text, but more disruptively I have gaps between text when I press Enter (I guess this defines the paragraph, but isn't always wanted).
    Well, basically, <pre> seems more flexible, but it behaves strangely sometimes. What do other people use?
    Many thanks!

    Hi Ireshe, just a beginner like you.  Have never heard of <pre> tags, use <p> tags.  If you hit SHIFT enter after a sentence this puts in a <br> tag or line break which basically leaves a blank line between text.
    If you add     &nsbp;    or lots of them between words this gives you an extra space between letters.  How all your paragraphs sit on the page is defined by CSS.  E.g.
    p {
         margin:0;
         padding: 5px 0 0 10px;}
    This would place all text within <p> tags on your page, with a 5px gap at the top, no space to the right or bottom and 10px space to the left.  Hope this helps, good luck!

    Hi ,
    I need one help from your side.
    Here I am expecting some clarifications from you. Before that let you my environement.

    If any thing I need to do just let me know. My target platform is MAC & UBUNTU.
    Please bare with my questions.
    1) I am not able to recognize any video/audio devices using jmf and java sound APIs on My system.
    ( I checked with the app mentioned in the http://www.java-forums.org/new-java/11201-jmf-cannot-connect-device.html )
    Do we need any administrives rights for our working PC.
    What is the procedure/ setup I need to follow from a java application to enable particular audio/video device since I dont about end-user system setup right.
    If possible send some sample code to recognize /r detect audio device ( voice input ). It should run on both MAC and UBUNTU.
    2) I run the one sample audio recording application of this link (http://www.jsresources.org/examples/SimpleAudioRecorder.java.html) which is provided by YOU.
    I got output audio file and able to hear voice on UBUNTU system but not able to hear voice on MAC system.
    I heared that default line in ( audio setup of the sys) is wont take any voice data on MAC.Why I made this stmt means we are getting false when using isSupported methods of JAVA SOUND API.
    ( like for TragetdataLine ...i,e, all ports are getting false)
    I have one sample audio recording app implemented by QUICKTIME API. In this case also he taking audio ftom device only using quicetime API.
    With that we are able to record and hear audio ( voice input --> not line in , external device we added some thing like SSB...)
    3) In case of Video capturing DataSource, Streams are implemented by PullBufferDataSource , PullBufferStream intefaces used.

    Can you explain the reasons ? I gone through API but i am not clear.

    For playing back, may be it is possible to "jar" the jmf along with the application and the upload on the server, then it may recognize all the classes but there can still be problem because JMF depends on many ".dll" files which are stored in System folders, as I have seen. So,........This is correct, mostly. Here goes a captfoss inforant...
    JMF is a collection of Java files (jmf.jar) that perform a certain set of functions, and it's also a set of native library files. You can use the Java JMF stuff with web-start, so the clients wouldn't have to have JMF installed to use the Java JMF stuff. The problem with doing this approach, you always have to ask yourself "Can I do what I want to do without the native library stuff?"
    To answer this question, it's important to take a look at the JMF supported formats page.
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/formats.html]
    If you look in the column "JMF 2.1.1 Cross Platform Version", it'll tell you what you can do in pure JMF, without any of the native libraries. In the case of capturing data, the only thing you can capture without native code is audio through the JavaSound system.
    If you take a look at the RTP formats listed, you'll see a problem...the cross-platform version can't send any kind of video data to itself, which means you'd have to send MPEG1 to a transcoding server to bounce it back to the second client as a JPEG image...and that's if you somehow had the video data you want to transmit, which you cannot get from the cross-platform pack anyway.

  • Vaibility of RTP relay server using JMF

    Hello!
    I am thinking of making an RTP server that would just relay the streams received from single user to multiple users.
    I want to ask following questions:
    1- Is it viable to make such a Server using JMF?
    2- If it is, then how should I proceed?
    3- Should I need to create Processor for each recieved stream at the server or just cloning the DataSource received and sending them using separate RTPManagers would solve my problem?
    4- Is cloning of data source needed at all?
    I am asking this before doing any coding just in case if it is not possible than you warn me ,and because I had real bad experiences while cloning the data source and this server, I think depends on cloning.
    Else, I want some help regarding code. I would highly appreciate some code snippets.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks!
    P.S.: captfoss, Are you listening?

    Now some simple questions from a novice, thats me:I will answer them out of order
    3- Are these terms specific to JMF or are they general Networking terms?They are general networking terms.
    2- What is difference b/w unicasting and multicasting?Uni = Latin prefix for "one".
    Multi = Latin prefix for "many"
    Broad = Latin prefix for "all" (okay, this one is probably not true, but...)
    unicast = sending data to a single recipient.
    broadcast = sending data to all recipients.
    multicasting = sending data to many recipients.
    It deals with how the underlaying UDP packets are handled.
    Unicast addresses the packets to a specific host, so all other hosts that receive those packets go "Not for me" and ignore it.
    Broadcast addresses the packets to a special IP address, the broadcast ip, so all hosts that receive it say "Oh, this is a broadcast message so it's for me"
    Multicast addresses the packets to an IP address in a special range (Class D addresses), and all hosts can opt to join in to the "multicast session". If they join the multicast session, it basiclly means when they receive packets addressed to any multicast addresses that they have joined the session of, they will consider those packets to be "for them".
    1- What exactly is multicasting in JMF?JMF multicasting is basiclly where the "host" can send out a single stream, and any number of "clients" can receive the stream.
    4- How multicasting is handled at Transmitter and Reciever side using JMF, some java statements please.Multicasting is almost handled "automaticlly".
    It's handled by giving the transmitter a multicast IP address to send to. "224.123.123.123" is an example of the one I always used for testing (because it was easy to remember). Transmitting multicast packets is handled automaticlly.
    Receiving multicast packets requires a little special handling.
    From AVReceive2.java
    if( ipAddr.isMulticastAddress()) {
        // local and remote address pairs are identical:
        localAddr= new SessionAddress( ipAddr,
                           session.port,
                           session.ttl);
        destAddr = new SessionAddress( ipAddr,
                           session.port,
                           session.ttl);
    } else {
        localAddr= new SessionAddress( InetAddress.getLocalHost(),
                                session.port);
        destAddr = new SessionAddress( ipAddr, session.port);
    }The main difference here is that your "local" address isn't going to be LocalHost address, "127.0.0.1", it's going to be the multicast address.
    And you should define the TTL (time to live) for the SessionAddress because multicast packets can only travel a certain number of "hops" (number of times forwarded).
    But honestly, I'm pretty sure I ripped that IF statement out and multicasting still worked (but I define the TTL for unicast as well, so bear that in mind...)
    Ignoring all of the stuff above, multicasting is a great idea for a local LAN application where there are no routers between the host and the clients. If you've got a router between them, then the router may not forward the multicast packets and your stream may never get to the remote clients.
    That's why in my project, which is web based, clients attempt to get the multicast packets and if they fail at that, then they request a unicast from my server.

  • Complete Beginner who needs advice

    I am a complete beginner with idvd. My question is can I use idvd to create a dvd for crafting, i.e. I design backing papers, decoupage, templates, envelopes etc etc and I would like to create a dvd that runs smoothly so that when it opens anyone can see the selection of items as listed above then when they click on an option more options appear. I would also like them to be able to jump back and forth and be able to print what they see on screen. The other thing I would like to be able to add is colour changes, for them to change colours and maybe sizes of things, a bit like what you can do in Illustrator. I have been trying to find some software to do this and was told that Autoplay/run will work but only on a PC. Does anybody know if creating this dvd on idvd would be possible. If it is not possible can anyone suggest suitable software.

    These items are possible within iDvd:

    However you cannot print directly from the dvd (with the exception of a pdf located within the dvd-rom contents area) unless one uses SnapZPro for Mac or another third party app to screen capture and print from there. (apple + shift + 4 won't work here unfortunately to screen capture and then print).
    The following you cannot do within iDvd alone:

    Not sure what to suggest to you here in terms of an app that might address this. Even DvdSP (iDvd's big brother) will not meet all these needs. Let me think about it and if anything comes to mind I will certainly post back.

  • Beginner question: Configure Tomcat for JAAS?

    Hi,
    This is a beginner question :-(. I'm trying to get JAAS to work on my Tomcat (6.0.12) installation. I used code from a Javaworld article (http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-09-2002/jw-0913-jaas.html)
    Of course I had to configure my Tomcat to work together with JAAS. The document I used is: http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/printer/realm-howto.html
    According to the Tomcat doc I have to do the following steps before I can use JAAS to authenticate a user:
    1. Develop your code. Place the compiled classes in Tomcat's classpath
    2. Setup a login.config file for Java, and tell Tomcat where to find it (set JAVA_OPTS)
    3. Configure the JAASRealm in your server.xml
    1 Develop code: I use the following classes:
    PassiveCallbackHandler.java
    RdbmsCredential.java
    RdbmsLoginModule.java
    RdbmsPrincipal.java
    These classes I put in the package rdbmsjaas.
    In the %CATALINA_HOME%/webapps/Javaworld_Jaas/WEB-INF/lib directory I created the rdbmsjaas.jar file.
    The jsp is called jaas.jsp, and is stored in %CATALINA_HOME%/webapps/Javaworld_Jaas
    2. Setup login.config
    In %CATALINA_HOME%\conf I saved the file Javaworld_all_that_Jaas.config, containing:
    Example {
       RdbmsLoginModule required
       debug="true"
       url="jdbc:mysql://localhost/jaasdb?user=javauser&password=javadude"
       driver="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";
    };I created an XP Environment Variable JAVA_OPTS with the value <-DJAVA_OPTS=-Djava.security.auth.login.config==C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Tomcat 6.0/conf/JavaWorld_All_That_Jaas.config> (excluding < and >)
    I used the fully qualified address, instead of $CATALINA_HOME/conf/JavaWorld_All_That_Jaas.config. I think XP balks when it sees $CATALINA_HOME).
    3 Configure JAASRealm in server.xml
    In %CATALINA_HOME%\conf\ I changed web.xml. I added the following lines:
          <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.JAASRealm"
                 appName="jaas"
                 userClassName="rdbmsjaas.RdbmsPrincipal"
                 debug="99"
           />If I run the jsp from http://localhost:8080/JavaWorld_Jaas/jaas.jsp, I can enter my username/password, but when I click the Submit button, I get:
    Caught Exception: java.lang.SecurityException: Unable to locate a login configurationWhere did my configuration go wrong?
    Abel

    You will need a JSP/servlet engine such as Tomcat - Apache alone won't do it.
    I haven't seen any tutorials on set-up but the Tomcat documentation includes info on how to link to Apache. There are also books you can buy - check out the online book stores such as Amazon.
    There's also a lot of info on this forum.

  • Beginner question: creating my own virtual instruments from samples

    Hi, I have a beginner question. I'd like to make a click-track, but I want to use my own sounds, either recorded or from the internet. Can I do this with Logic Express 7, or do I need Logic Pro 7 and the EXS24?

    I think you can do it, but it might be a pain.
    You could import a sample of a single click and just paste it into every beat on the Arrange Page.
    Other than that, you might need the sampler included with Logic Pro

  • Screen presenter application in an RTP stream using JMF - very slow..

    I am trying to build a screen presenter application using JMF. I got the AVTransmit2 code to run with the Screen grabber data source. I use the following calls
    java AVTransmit2 screen://0,0,160,120/10 224.122.122.122 2222
    - java AVReceive2 224.122.122.122/2222
    The AVReceive does receive the screen data stream in RTP, but either there are too many artifacts(h263) or it is too slow(JPEG format). Is there a way to optimize the screen grabber data source or the encoding somehow to make this more efficient?

    You're probably trying to broadcast a very, very high resolution video (your screen is probably a minimum of 1024x768) at a very, very high framerate (30 fps, I'd bet).
    A DVD runs at 640x480 at around 30 frames per second.
    You're trying to broadcast a video feed with over two and a half times as much visual information as a DVD has, and that's before you throw in that a DVD is encoded using MPEG4 compression.
    In the end, you're probably trying to broadcast 754,974,720 bits per second (1024x768x32(bit color)x30(fps)), or roughly trying to dump 1 CD-RWs worth of data to your network card per second...
    You want it to work well, you're going to need to decrease both the framerate and transcode the full-size video down into a smaller size...
    Or you can go into the DataSource code and modify the resolution of the screen capture image before it's compiled into the video. That would also work.
