Best approach to pull data from email

I am a teacher at a high school that uses an online program to do some homework and quizzes. At present, I get the emails and manually read them and enter the scores by hand into a spreadsheet. I have been doing some searching around for scripts that can automate this for me, but first I think I need advice on the process itself. Here is a sample email to show you what the data looks like:
I am currently using Automator to try to design a workflow whereby I get the selected messages, run an AppleScript that pulls the data out, copy this to clipboard, then paste the clipboard either into a text file or spreadsheet. I found a few scripts out there (like this one) that seem to have some of the pieces I need, but I can't get the scripts to work when I customize them to my purpose. Where I seem to really be getting stuck is the design of the script:
--all I need is the name and the percentage score, or the "you answered x correctly" part
--should I try to set the script to key in on the percent sign itself, since that's a unique character? or is there a better way to aim?
Here's a sample script I'm trying:
on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "Mail"
        set theSelectedMessage to selection
if (count of theSelectedMessage) is equal to 0 then
display dialog "Please select a message in Mail first, then run this script again."
else if (count of theSelectedMessage) is equal to 1 then
set thisMessage to item 1 of theSelectedMessage
set theBody to content of thisMessage
set theTargetText to paragraph 3 of theBody
        else
display dialog "Please select only one message in Mail first, then run this script again."
            extract name from thisMessage
        end if
    end tell
    return input
end run
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks to Hiroto!

  • Best approach to synchronize data from custom application database to EBS

    Hi All,
We have requirement to synchronize data between custom application database and EBS database. Thw two database is on different location connected by 128 kbps connection.
The synchronization will do the following task :
    - Download customer table from EBS (I have checked there are only 2000 rows of it)
    - Up load billing data to EBS auto invoice interface table
    The question is :
What approach is the best way to do this synchronization task ? some that come into my mind :
    - create database link and run stored procedure to do the batch update ?
    - for Customer synchronization, is it a good idea to create Materialized view so that any update to EBS customer data will be updated, refreshed nightly
    - or is ther any better approach ?
    Thank you very much,
    xtanto

    Hi,
There are two direction of synchroonization that should be done :
    - RECEIVE Customers data from EBS into Custom Billing Database -> Yes, this can be done via materialized view
    - SEND Billing data from Custom Billing Database into EBS database (Interface table)-> this cannot be done with materialized view
--> so how is the best way to do this under limited bandwidth (128 kbps) ?
    Thank you very much,

  • Best Practice on querying Data from Database

Hello and I was wondering what is the preferred and best practice for querying data from an SQL database inside a JSP page. Is it using the JSTL library or another method? Thanks

It depends on the size of the application really.
The "correct and preferred" approach in a large MVC app would be to have a seperate class that does all the database access, retrieving the data into java objects.
Check out [url http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/DataAccessObject.html] DAO pattern
You then "save" the data into request/session attributes, and forward to a jsp page to render the result.
Most approaches recommend a separation between JSP (the view) and SQL code.
The JSTL sql tags are provided more for "quick and dirty" code applicable in small applications, or for fast prototyping. That approach is not really robust for large scale applications.

  • Best way to extract data from archived cube

    Hello Experts,
Can anyone tell me best way to extract data from archived cube.
Basically I am trying to pull all the data from archived cube and then load it into another brand new infoprovider which is in different box.
Also I need to extract all the master data for all infoobjects.
I have two options in my mind:
    1) Use open hub destination
    or
    2) Infoprovider>display data>select the fields and download the data.
Is it really possible to extract data using option (2) if records are too high and then load it into another infoprovider in new system.
Please suggest me the pros and cons for the two options.
Thanks for your time in advance.

    Hello Reddy,
Thanks a lot for your quick reply.
Actually in my case I am trying to extract archived infocube data and then load it into new infoprovider which is in different system. If I have connectivity I can simply export data source from archived infocube and then reload into new infoprovider.
But there is no connectivity between those two systems (where archived cube is and new infoprovider) and so I am left with the two options I mentioned.
    1) Use Open Hub
    or
    2) Extract data manually from infoprovider into excel.
Can anyone let me know which of the two options is the best and also I doubt on how to use excel in extracting data as excel have limit of no.of records 65536
    Thanks

  • What is the best approach to process data on row by row basis ?

    Hi Gurus,
I need to code stored proc to process sales_orders into Invoices. I
think that I must do row by row operation, but if possible I don't want
to use cursor. The algorithm is below :
for all sales_orders with status = "open"
    check for credit limit
if over credit limit -> insert row log_table; process next order
    check for overdue
if there is overdue invoice -> insert row to log_table; process
    next order
check all order_items for stock availability
if there is item that has not enough stock -> insert row to
    log_table; process next order
if all check above are passed:
    create Invoice (header + details)
    end_for
What is the best approach to process data on row by row basis like
    above ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

Processing data row by row is not the fastest method out there. You'll be sending much more SQL statements towards the database than needed. The advice is to use SQL, and if not possible or too complex, use PL/SQL with bulk processing.
In this case a SQL only solution is possible.
The example below is oversimplified, but it shows the idea:
    SQL> create table sales_orders
      2  as
      3  select 1 no, 'O' status, 'Y' ind_over_credit_limit, 'N' ind_overdue, 'N' ind_stock_not_available from dual union all
      4  select 2, 'O', 'N', 'N', 'N' from dual union all
      5  select 3, 'O', 'N', 'Y', 'Y' from dual union all
      6  select 4, 'O', 'N', 'Y', 'N' from dual union all
      7  select 5, 'O', 'N', 'N', 'Y' from dual
      8  /
    Tabel is aangemaakt.
    SQL> create table log_table

    SQL> create table invoices
      2  ( sales_order_no number
      3  )
      4  /
    Tabel is aangemaakt.
    SQL> select * from sales_orders
      2  /
            NO STATUS IND_OVER_CREDIT_LIMIT IND_OVERDUE IND_STOCK_NOT_AVAILABLE

             5 O      N                     N           Y

      2    when ind_over_credit_limit = 'Y' then
      3         into log_table (sales_order_no,message) values (no,'Over credit limit')
      4    when ind_overdue = 'Y' and ind_over_credit_limit = 'N' then
      5         into log_table (sales_order_no,message) values (no,'Overdue')
      6    when ind_stock_not_available = 'Y' and ind_overdue = 'N' and ind_over_credit_limit = 'N' then
      7         into log_table (sales_order_no,message) values (no,'Stock not available')
      8    else

    10  select * from sales_orders where status = 'O'

  • SQL Select Performance - Approached to fetch data from big table

    Hi
I just wanted to know view on different approached to fetch data from a table which has 40 billion records and which joined to another table which has 1 million record.
    e.g.
I have two tables TableA and TableB
TableA has 40 Billion records has 6 columns
         TableA has partitions on Date
         TableA has required indexes
TableB has 1 Milluion record and has 10 columns
         Table A has indexes
Now I have written query like
    select distinct TableA.column1,TableA.column2,TableB.columnA
    FROM TableA join TableB
    ON TableA.Column1=TableB.Column2
WHERE TableA.DateColumn between StartDate and EndDate
for a given date range it will fetch 5 billion of records which takes around 40 minutes.
I just wanted to know what all tuning approaches I can follow. What would be the best approach to make record retrieval faster in such a scenario.
Just wanted to know your vies/experience in such a scenario

    Sufficiently large array fetchsize
    and,
    possibly using parallel query,
    pop into my mind.
I would be interested though in the business requirement that asks for you to write a program that gets 5 billion (!) rows out of the database...

  • Question about Skywire Documaker - where can it pull data from ?

Does the Skywire Documaker product have an ability to pull data from a Relational Database into a form’s field? What other data sources are available to pull data, besides the extract data file (DAT), and xml file?

In response to your question about where Oracle Documaker pulls data from:
DB calls may be done as part of the document generation process to look up data. However it is not designed to maintain and open DB connection. This is also not a recommended best practice. Transall is shipped as part of the Doucmaker solution and it is designed to connect to multiple sources (including DB) and produce an input file for Documaker. Creating DB connections is considered an IT related task and does not fit in with positioning Documaker as a business user tool.

  • Pulling data from a second sharepoint site that is on a different server

    Hi,
I need to pull some news stories located in a list on a separate sharepoint site on a separate server. I will also be filtering the stories pulled using a custom column on the list on the source site. Can anyone tell me what would need to configure
to be able to do this?
    thanks,
    Sherazad
    Sherazad

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to pull data from a second SharePoint site that is on a different server.
If the two servers are in the same domain, you can enter the site url in the brower directly.
If the two servers are in the different domains, you need to create a trust between the domains.

  • Pulling data from table to a flat file

    hi all,
    Good day to all,
Is there any script which i can use for pulling data from tables to a flat file and then import that data to other DB's. Usage of db link is restricted. The db version is 10.2.0.4.
    thanks,
    baskar.l

Is there any script which i can use for pulling data from tables to a flat file and then import that data to other DB'sFlat file is adequate only from VARCHAR2, NUMBER, & DATA datatypes.
Other datatypes present a challenge within text file.
A more robust solution is to use export/import to move data between Oracle DBs.

    Hello,
I am novice working with Flash Builder 4 and I just created a test application which runs well in my computer pulling data from Mysql using PHP and populating a datagrid. But when I transfered it to the my hosting provider failed. I have been doing some modifications to the gateway.php and amf.config.ini to solve some of the issues. Hello Jdesko,
Thank you for you prompt response. Yes, I have changed the connections variables in my dataservice ( I didn't post real values). You are right, after all I didn't make changes on the gateway.php except to add some tracking points. The one that I changed is the amf.config,ini. The application runs without any error exceptions, but don't populate the datagrid. According with the tracing is stoping just when establishing the connection to the database. Please let me know if you have any other clue. thanks

    Dear Experts,
We are connecting SSRS 2012 to Essbase 11.1.3 to pull data from the cube, and having some issues with some members data not showing in the query designer and report, while some have no problem. And we couldn't find a pattern on which members won't show. We are wondering if this is a known issue and if there is a way to solve the problem.
    Thanks very much.

    Hi ,
    Check the following:-
1 Check whether you have made the joins properly.
2 Check data at multiprovider level .
3 is data available for reporting in both the cubes

  • Pull data from a table in HTML format from external URL into a Servlet

How do I pull data from existing website html table into a Servlet?
I will need to pull the data into a servlet. So, the servelet will need to go to the URL and get the data and save them as variables.
I know I will need an array to store the data. I just dont know how to call the URL and have the servelet search the site for the <table> </table>.
I will later use this to save to a database.
    Thanks
