CMSs come small & large.  The right one for your project depends on several factors:
a) your coding skills
b) what type of server-side programming and databases you can use
c) projected size of site
d) feature requirements
e) budget

best FTP for iWeb produced websites after Mobile Me?

If you're asking about an FTP client there are several very good FTP clients.  YummyFTP and Transmit are two commercial clients that provide two finder like windows of your local website folder and the online site folder.  That makes it very easy to drag and drop or do automatic syncs.
Cyberduck is a free FTP client and provides a Finder like window to the online folder.  You can open the local Finder window for the web site for dropping and dragging. It will also do an automatic sync.
As for hosting sites IMO the two best are HostExcellence.com and ixwebhosting.  They are owned by the same company and operate essentially the same.  The only difference is that HostExcellence has a free customer support phone line for customers outside the US. Both offer excellent ear to ear customer support.

The best cover is the one that suites your needs. Try Google. There are dozens on the market.
As for the Apple Smart Cover, it does work with the new iPad. There are a few reported issues with it, but that doesn't come close to representing the totality of folks with it.

  • What is my DNS for my new website setup?

What is my DNS for my new website setup?
I am registering my new Domain name with an outside website service (not iWeb). Namecheap.com
What Mac OS X 10.8.2 DNS do I use for my server setup with thru their business? They have asked me this question. Or do I use their default servers as they suggest?
Please help. Thank you in advance for your advice.

It's not entirely clear what you're asking. Are you asking what data you have to provide to your domain registrar? Or are you asking for some configuration data for your machine?
Are you planning/hoping to use your Mac OS X Server as the authoritative DNS server for your domain? (this is usually a bad idea unless you really know what you're doing).
If you're setting up the remote domain on your registrar's servers then there's nothing you need to do for your machine. For simplicity's sake you don't need to do any DNS for your domain on your own server - let the service provider do that. If you want to setup your domain internally as well, then I'd recommend disconnecting your public records (hosted by your service provider) from your private ones (running on your own machine) since you will likely want to hide your internal network addresses from the public.

  • Best config for adding new 250GB HD

    Greetings:
My G4 at work shipped with a 40GB drive that filled up quickly with design projects, etc. I'm on the brink of a huge catalog project, and I was down to less than 3GB of space, so I dumped all the archived stuff to an external and now have 25GB of free space to work with.
Hoping to prevent any storage/performance problems in the future, we bought a 250GB Maxtor (internal) and the Sonnet ATA/133 PCI card. At first I was thinking of partitioning the new drive to form scratch, boot and storage sections. After reading some threads here it seems partitioning would cause more problems than solve them.
So what then, would be the best configuration for the two drives to work together? I am doing some pretty heavy design work with Adobe CS and will be installing Tiger. Any ideas for the best setup for speedy and efficient operation? It'll be the first time I've added an additional HD to the rig.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    PowerPC Quicksilver G4 800MHz 1.25 GB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi, Time Pilot!
I really can't tell you the "best" way to set up your drives, but I will say that I personally run partitioned drives when it suits my needs. I still use PS 7.01 and use a scratch disk on a partitioned volume, which I also use for video import and editing. I also have a volume set aside on my second internal drive for backups/archives, in addition to the clones I keep externally.
I wouldn't recommend partitioning without good reason, but I wouldn't condemn it, as some may. I've successfully done it for years. Perhaps the biggest mistake folks make when partitioning is to create too many partitions, or partitions which are too small to be useful down the line. If I could give a general guideline, I'd say that fewer partitions is better, resulting in more space per partition while minimizing wasted space. Do what makes sense for you, rather than be hamstrung during daily operations. Alternately, add yet another drive.
Regarding the card and new drive... your original drive should already be jumpered as Master, but you might check to insure it's not set for Cable Select. Put the new drive on the Sonnet card, jumpered as Master and connected to the end connector on the ribbon cable. You can leave your old drive on the logic board's bus if it's the original drive that came with the Mac. Unless it's an ATA-100 or -133 drive, you won't get any better performance from it if you install it on the second controller on the Sonnet PCI card. After installing the PCI card and drive, do a PRAM reset when you boot the first time. Then launch Disk Utility and format (initialize) the drive, using the Erase option. Format the drive with Mac OS Extended and check the box to install the OS 9 drivers, whether you plan to run OS 9 or not. It takes up no user-accessible space on the drive and you might be glad the drivers are there if you ever have to do a firmware update which OS X might not be able to handle, or something similar. You might also take the opportunity to overwrite zeros to the new drive before putting into service. This takes a few hours and is not essential, but is good insurance. The zero-overwrite process will identify and map out any bad sectors which may be on the drive, precluding their future use and insuring against consequent data corruption. If you plan on partitioning, switch to the Partition tab when you're done.
If you want to move your current startup volume to the new drive, use a cloning utility to do so. You can use the Restore option in Disk Utility, but most folks seem to prefer a third-party alternative like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper!. The former is donationware and the latter is freeware for full volume cloning. Both are very simple and effective.

  • Can you please give some feedback for my new website

    Hey guys
I recently launched a new website. Its of freelance niche.
    http://www.zumzzy.com/
Brief Intro of the site: Basically here the freelancers can list their services, upload their portfolio, contact details etc.
And a person looking for such services can directly contact him through the email or IM ids. And the most important point is its FREE for both client and contractor
Its more of directory nature than a usual freelancing sites where you have to post your project and the freelancer can bid on your project.
I need some feedback on UI and UI experience of user. Do you think the design is conveying the concept of the site.
    Thanks in advance

The search menu is over emphasized and the text looks unbalanced.  You should work in a second typeface to make certain elements more interesting or stand out more.  Featured free lancers should be up in the top tier of the layout so smaller browsers do not have to scroll.  "How It Works" is also too big and out of balance.  It is a good start with some rethinking in the overall appearance and concept.  Look at some professional web sites who do similar things like list dentists, lawyers, and doctors.  Think brand and professional corporate identity.  I do not like the hand drawn arrow or clip art.  Work instructions into the sub head under the search box.  Focus on the sketch, not the software.  Get everything laid out either by hand in sketches or an Illustrator template.  Initially, I think the user will find it useful. A little more work on design.

  • Best ISP for a new airport express router

I am trying to decide what the best ISP to go with for my new airport extreme. I have Comcast currently and they are terrible(and they are totally less than helpful with setting it up)...are there any other ISP's in particular that work really well with airport extremes? What provider do you guys use? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Generally someone only has the choice of one or two broadband ISPs. If service from Comcast is reliable, I'd go with them if they can supply you with a "dumb" (i.e., no router functionality) modem. That should make setup of an AirPort Extreme very simple.
Reliability is the most important thing. In theory you only need configure things once, but you're dependent on reliability every day.
By the way, is there a reason you posted your message in the section for "AirPort for Windows"?

  • What is the best upgrade for the new Air?

I am looking for a new Macbook Air for college and was wondering what upgrade would be the smartest decision. I was thinking of a 13" air with:
1.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
    8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
    128GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
    or a 13" Air with:
    1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
    Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz
    8 GB memory
    256GB PCIe-based flash storage1
The former option would save me approximately $60. What are the benefits of an upgraded processor? I have heard they would make my computer overheat more easily and the fan would be significantly louder. This is making me question if the processor is worth it. In addition, I am unsure of how beneficial the 8GB as opposed to 4GB of RAM would be. How can I optimize the speed of my laptop if I want to run Windows through Parallels? That is essential.
    Please advise, Thanks.

If you buy a 2013 model you can save up to $400+ from online resellers who are clearing out the "old" model.
However the "old" model is nearly 100% identical in performance .
to answer your question, unless you plan on gaming or video editing, get the I5 with 8GB of RAM with 256 SSD

  • Best ups for my new imac 27" - late 2013?

have an imac 27" late 2013, can anybody suggest the best  UPS for my Imac (and for india)

There is no "best", personally I have used an APC ES750 and have been very pleased. Things to look for are how many devices you intend to plug into the UPS, the computer, perhaps backup HD's etc.. Don't plug in items like printer, or other non essential devices. Other items to consider are how much battery life to you want with when the power does fail. Don't get caught up in the sine wave discussion, it's not essential not practical.

  • Need best procedure for adding new start-up disc and keeping all original data.

We are adding a new (bigger)SATA drive to our 8-core Xeon Mac Pro and would like to clone the original startup disk to the new drive and use it to boot from.
If you know of the best and surefire way to do this and not have any permission issues or any issues please advise.
    Thank you in advance.

    A. Carbon Copy Cloner
    B. use the big drives for media folders, libraries, data
    C. use smaller fast drive for system - $110 will buy a 1TB WD Black or Samsung 830 SSD, $150 will buy a 10K 250GB VR
    How to clone your system:

Maybe you want to move all your sub-folders in your account to another drive - the new 2-4TB model (enterprise, not green)

  • SX20 and SX10 best practices for small conference rooms using built in Display Speakers

    Hi,
Im planning to deploy some small meeting rooms using SX10 and SX20 codecs, I was wondering if someone could give me some key points to consider:
    1. Display recommendation, nice built in speakers, low delay (goog performance with codec echo canceller) I wish to use a 60 - 70 inch Led TV (not yet defined which brand and model)  I would like to receive some feedback about nice performance displays with nice audio and echo cancellation performance based on your experience.
    2. What would be the drawbacks of using SX10 and SX20 in larger meeting rooms maybe 10 or 12 people?
    3. When to use external microphone? or when is recommended to use only  internal microphone?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best Regards,  have a nice day!

Pretty well any modern display should work well - different people are going to have different ideas about whether the speakers are any good or not, so you'll have to listen to a few yourself and make up your mid what you think is "better".  The echo cancellation can be tweaked manually on the codec to suit the display if required (rather than leaving it on the "auto" setting which, in our installations, has caused more troubles than it's worth).
The main drawback of using the SX10, or the cheaper of the range of the SX20s, is the camera and the amount of zoom.  In a larger room, you're not going to get a good close up view with a 2.5x camera.  I'd suggest for a bigger room, you look at the 12x cameras.
As a general rule - use additional microphone(s) when you can't get someone within a 3m radius one of the other microphones.  So in a larger room, you may need many.

  • Best PPI for Creating New Image in Photoshop

    Hi,
Bunch of questions - all in BOLD. I am somewhat new to CS5 and have been playing around with making art in it. Yesterday I created a piece of art simply by selecting 6 inches by 6 inches in the dialog box (because I was thinking of just printing it out at home and gluing it to a 6 x 6 canvas). It defaulted to 72 ppi / RGB as it always does, and I was fine with that when I started the piece and also because I post these pieces of art to my blog on the web.
I am in the process of trying to create art for licensing and understand I will have to create things in CMYK for that (right?). I also understand that I should probably create a PS piece at 300 ppi (or is 355 ppi the new standard?)
I want to create the art on 12 x 12 photoshop windows ("scrapbook size") for manufacturers that will also allow the art to be sampled up and down a little bit (say down to 8 x 8 and up to 20 x 20). Is 300 dpi the best dpi, then, to create the piece at?
Also, is it possible to re-save the file for the web at 72 dpi / RGB for posting to my blog? What is the best way to do this?
Final question, I think, is that I will be printing out my art on my own home printer (4-color HP Vivera inks) for trade shows just to show it and am not concerned that it be the absolute-best of all possible prints. Just a pretty good rendition of it for display purposes and I obviously don't want to go through a boatload of ink and spend 20 years waiting for it to come out of the printer, etc. Can anyone recommend the best setting (CMYK? PPI???) for home-printing of 12 x 12's as such?
    Thanks!

that all of these choices will allow me to save it as a copy?
When using Image > Image Size I would recommend duplicating the Image (Image > Duplicate) first to avoid the risk of overwriting the original.
I guess what you are saying is that the manufacturer is able to fiddle with CMYK values that he/she needs and I shouldn't worry about it and just create it in RGB.
Unless you know what space the actual print will be in you better stay in the larger gamut (as most RGB-spaces are likely to be in relation to most CMYK-spaces).
And even if you know the target-space working in RGB offers some advantages and avoids the risk of overshooting the allowed Total Area Coverage (as can happen when working in CMYK-files).
what would be the best way to go about trying to decide what possible CMYK profile I should use, and where in the program would I choose to set it and view it
    • Where do you work (North America, Europe, Asia, …)? In Europe FOGRA sets the standard (ISO Coated v2 for sheet fed offset presses at current for example), in other regions of the world different standards may apply.
    • What is the likely output for your images (Posters, newspapers, magazines, offset or gravure print, t-shirts, …)?
One can always ask one’s print provider which icc-profile fits their process.
You can use Photoshop’s soft proofing capabilities to get a preview of whatever color-space you find out to be the pertinent one under
View > Proof Setup > Custom
and save that. Then turn View > Proof Colors on or off as needed (command-Y).
But here (as with separation in general) you may want to look into the various Render Intents.
Additionally you can use View > Gamut Warning (command-shift-Y).
can I safely assume when I purchase a scanner and use that in the creation of some work that I should scan things in at 300 ppi?
300ppi effective resolution that is – this means that if you are likely to upscale an image in a layout program like Indesign or just print it out bigger you should do the scan accordingly bigger or with higher resolution so that in the end 300ppi are maintained for products that are likely to be viewed at or less than an arm’s distance.
