Best dimension order

Hi,
We facing performance issue, we want to change the sparse/dense configuration order,
I know there are two main approch, what is the best in terms of calcultions , aggrgations, from your
experince:
1. Put the in hour glass order - most dense to let, less sparse to most and then non agg dimension.
2. agg dims most to least non agg

Sometimes the hourglass also didn't give good performance. It depends on the system to system
what is best for your system performance.
Place your growing sparse dimensions later even having less no. of members currently
if you think that the dimension will grow in future.

Hello,
When accessing Consolidation/Extract/Data is it possible to change the dimension order of the extract rather than extracting the standard order?
I can see you can change the dimension order visually by going to "Reorder dimensions" but this does not carry through to the actual extract.
If its not possible using this method is there another method? Trying to avoid using smartview for this purpose.

I read an article and cannot find it that said something about trying to make it 2million pixels and JPG to keep it small, but what exactly should the dimensions be that I ultimately import? Is there some kind of a "density" setting I have to use, as well, when exporting from Photoshop, for example?

Dimension order in planning outline and consequences on FR Reports

If dimension order is altered in a planning outline, does it affect the usability of Financial Reports made with the previous order?

One other thing to keep track of -- you didn't specify what dimensions you are changing the order of, but there is a slight possibility that you will change the order in which dynamically calculated members are evalulated. In turn, this may impact your results.
There's a whole section in the DBAG that goes over stored and dynamic calc order.

Data export- Dimension Order

I have an issue in dataexport, I would like to put the dimension in certain oder(like 1,2,3 rather than 2,3,1). Is there anyway f doing that.

As TimG said, with DATAEXPORT you cannot do it.
You have other possible options though
1. If you are extracting a subset of data and if the amount of data is less, you can go with report script to define the order you want to
2. As TimG said, you can post-process it using a script or any other tool. If you have ODI in your in-house process, then you can easily do it
3. Long back when DATAEXPORT was not there (prior to system9) there was a CDF JExport with which you can extract a subset of data. This is similar to what we are doing now using DATAEXPORT. Have a look at (Oracle Essbase Sample Code) and look for CDF_Exports. Haven't used it after 11.1.1.3. AFAIK, it should work and you can define the dimension order

Best Buy Order Glitch, Customer Service Terrible!

Placed two orders this morning. The first one went through just fine. Placed second order for $45. When I submitted it I received message "Oops! There was a glitch, please call 1-888-Best-Buy to complete your order". It did not provide an order number, however, it DID remove the $45 from my gift card. I was placed on hold a half dozen times, transferred several and actually "oops-hung up on because we don't know how to fix it" twice. The last representative actually acted like she was going to remedy the situation but ultimately lied. She told me that she "confirmed" the glitch and that it would "fix itself" in TWO hours". We'll it has now been FIVE hours and no order and the funds are still missing from the gift card. Tried calling again but was placed on hold AGAIN and was disconnected by the representative. This is ridiculous! It is their system yet they can't seem to figure it out, yet it's my problem and I am expected just to wait?? Not to mention how long the item I am trying to be will be on sale?? I always have some problem when ordering from Best Buy which is why I will not sit quietly this time. I will reach out to the Better Business Bureau in the morning if their "glitch" does not resolve itself today. - j. {removed per forum guidelines}

Best Practice - Order Types for Consumers

I was curious what the best practice is for entering orders within the CRM Interaction Center. Do you have a separate order type within the CRM system and pass it to the SAP system for "Consumer" orders and then have a different order type that is defined in the ECC system for distributor/wholesale orders?
We are trying to determine if it is best practice to have a separate order type for consumer orders or not.
Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

I received the following guidance from one of our CRM consulting practice managers at SAP:
"My recommendation to customers is that they separate out the number ranges and order types. Especially if they are being created via different sales channels. The reason is two-fold:
1. Gives greater visibility to what is created in one channel vs another channel (easy to report by order/document type and visually, someone would see an order that starts with 7 and know that itu2019s for consumers whereas one that starts with a 4 would be for wholesale accounts).
2. Even if the order/document types behave the exact same way today, they may want the flexibility to be able to change how a consumer order behaves without affecting the wholesale orders. They could always add the new order type later, of course, but itu2019s easier to set that structure in place now."

Best dimensions to match a 4:3 video

I plan to create keynote slides that will be exported as a QT movie and imported into Final Cut Express. The slides will be inserted into the video that I am editing. The video is 4:3.
What is the "slide size" that would best match the 4:3 video? Do I select the 800x600? or a custom setting?
The goal is having the keynote slides match the video as much as possible, without creating another layer of the black letterbox bars.

I have just read your information, with thanks, now I understand there is a resolution option in the beginning of setting up my slides...
which brings to my attention... I DIDN'T set the resolution, causing the default setting comes into play.
When I did my presentation, the projector sized my computer screen with tiny display... I imagine it's to do with my setting of resolution problem. Since my slides are already set, how do I change it? can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi there - I'm shooting tomorrow in XDCAM EX HD (1920 x 1080) and need to upload to youtube in the evening. I was wondering if I should output a 1920 x 1080 - highest res - file or a 1280 x 720 - as recommended by youtube - for my video?

Thanks Nick ... so 1280 x 720 is best then. I couldn't get Ken Stone's Compressor presets to import - do you know how to do this?
And when I setup FCP to work with full-res XDCAM footage at 1920 x 1080 the settings of the timeline are 1440 x 1080 when using the XDCAM Preset. Is this correct? Surely it should be 1920 x 1080?

Dimension order has a huge impact on performance.. The worst case I ever saw was in a pre-sales situation where an outline was thrown together very quickly by someone not experienced with Essbase. A rather small retrieval took 3 minutes despite the fact that there was absolutely no data in the database! Rearranging the dimensions made retrievals instantaneous..

What color settings are best when ordering Aperture 3 books? I want to prevent photos that are printed too dark. Last year, Apple advised calibrating to 2.2 gamma setting. cr

Use the largest file, pixel wise, that you can. The books are printed at 300 dpi so the largest size the better to insure you'll get as close to that dpi for the largest page picture possible.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Parent Child absolutely for reason 1 alone. Our source system (SAP) went through a period where it seems like every week the hierarchy depth grew. I got tired of revising the load rules to accommodate new levels. Finally hit upon the idea of transforming a level based metadata file into a PC file. No more headaches with new levels: if they want a 100 level depth hierarchy <heaven forbid>, I can quickly transform it into a simple PC file.
