Best Practice : Adding Android Versions to published iPad Folio

Hi,
I currently have an iPad Custom Viewer with a 239 page per orientation ( yes per orientation! ) folio, this is currently available on iTunes and published.
We are adding Android 10.1" and Android 7" versions to this now.
What would be the best method ( ie. least work ) to add the new screen sizes to the folio ?
My options as I see it are :
1. Use a different Adobe ID for the Android versions. This seems like the least work. Update and republish the iPad folio with all content unprotected to enable new Web Viewer feature with new Custom Viewer.
2. Create a brand new folio with all renditions included. The problem with this is, I don't see a way to manually add all my _V iPad layouts to the alternate layouts. I literally have to set Object Based liquid layout rules for the _H and redo the _V using the rules.
Is there a way for me too add renditions to the existing iPad folio ? Is it as simple as adding new screen sizes to the Folio Builder tool in InDesign ? Regardless I'd still need a starting point for the alternate layouts, and need to work from the iPad versions. Which brings me back to the end of Point 2.

Hi.
Each "rendition" is a folio, all published under same publication account. All renditions share common product ID. It is viewer's job to choose rendition best suitable for device.
From my own experience, I publish all my magazines both on Apple and on Android with no different renditions. Yes on 7" screen the text is a little bit small for comfortable reading.

    You can use any of the methods you have listed to create XML data. Oracle seeded code is using PLSQL to generate XML rather than reports since reports technology will not be used in the next version of Application (aka Fusion)

  • What is the best practice to manage versions in XI?

    Hi!
    Is there any <b>good</b> “best practice” ways to manage versions in XI.
    Have a challenging scenario with many legacy systems and many interfaces per legacy system.
    Should I put all the different interfaces for one legacy system under one namespace in the Integration Repository or should I make one own namespace for each interface.
    Or is there other approaches, that I should consider to get a environment that is “easily” maintained.
    br.samuli

    Hi,
    In our project we have defined our own naming conventions/namespaces.
    For instance, we have agreed that we will group all interfaces (from all offices worldwide and different projects) into one single product version.
    This global custom product will in turn be divided into different SWC (Software Components) and SWCV (Software Component versions).
    So for each business scenario we will create separate SWC's and when necessary create new versions of these SWC's.
    This means that each SWC should contain all the required objects to support a complete integration scenario i.e. inbound/outbound-interfaces, data types, msg types, business scenario's etc...

  • Best practice for highly available management / publishing servers

    I am testing a highly available appv 5.0 environment, which will deploy appv packages to a Xenapp farm.  I have two SQL 2012 servers configured as an availability group for the backend, and two publishing / management servers for the front end.
    What is the best practice to configure the publishing / management servers for high availability?  Should I configure them as an NLB cluster, which I have tested and does seem to work, or should I just use the GPO to configure the clients to use both
    publishing servers, which I have also tested and appears to work?
    Thanks,
    Patrick Sullivan

    In App-V 5.0 the Management and Publishing Servers are hosted in IIS, so use the same approach for HA as you would any web application.
    If NLB is all that's available to you, then use that; otherwise I would recommend a proper load balancing solution such as Citrix NetScaler or KEMP LoadManager.

  • Best Practice Adding New Target to Namespace and Replication

    Hi,
    whats the best way to add a new target to Namespace and replication. Goal is to replace a old file Server at the end.
    I did the following:
    - copied the share with robocopy incl timestamps of files and folders
    - created share
    - added the new share as a new target as well as meshd member of the replication connection
    - disabled the new member in the Namespace, so no one can Access it until dfsr is fully done and initialized
    After the the new dfsr Connection was replicated through AD to all 4 Members (3 different site, 1 same site) the
    following happend:
    dfsr begin and almost every file was in a conflicted and copied over the the Conflict Folder. Almost all timestamps
    of the Folders were changed to the current date, but the timestamps of the files not.
    Thousands of eventlogs: 4412
    The DFS Replication service detected that a file was changed on multiple servers. A conflict resolution algorithm was used to determine the winning file. The losing file was moved to the Conflict and Deleted folder.
    Any idea why? Later on i disabled the Connections to the remote Fileservers, but that did not stop it.
    My idea was to pre-seed the files with robocopy. So what would be the best way to prevent that for the next share ? Is it a better way to just add the target to a bi-directional Connection to the local Fileserver without adding to DFS-N and without copying
    the files before ? Is it better to let DFSR do the hole Initial sync incl Files ?
    At the end i have no loss of date but to check almost every file for conflict took Ages to finish.
    Thanks a lot,
    Marco

    Hi,
    The steps you performed are correct - compare with waiting for DFS initial replication, a manually pre-staging is recommended.
    When doing the Robocopy step, wether all attributes are copied such as NTFS permissions?
    After robocopy, you can add that folder as a folder target of DFS replication group - you can add it to DFS namespace after replication finished.
    And if it is a Windows 2012 R2, you can prestaging DFS database for a better result.

  • Best practices for including CSS on publishing

    In order to have completely self-contained project folders, I have css in my project folder.   I don't understand why you can include .js Scripts, and have them publish automatically yet you can't do the same for css scripts.  This is truly baffling since css is at least as fundamental to an html project as js.
    What I want is to be able to include a .css file in my project, so that when the project is published, the css file gets copied into the published folder along with the images and js.  There's really no reason why images and js should be copied but not css.  Also, this would include saving as a template.

    Well the problem is not loading the CSS files.  That can easily be done.  The problem is using the local css file, and having that file COPIED to the publish folder.  This is important because....
    If you edit an image, the image will get copied on publish
    If you edit a locally included .js file, the local verson will get copied on publish
    If you make any edit to the project, the edits will show up in the published files.
    If you make an edit to a local css file, it WILL NOT be copied on publish.
    So if you have several existing example projects, and you open one up, make some changes and publish it to a new location, everything will be there EXCEPT the css.  That is very odd behavior for an html5 creation app.
    If there is possible interferance, that all the more reason to have Edge adding css to projects, so it can notice such interferances.

  • Use different DPS accounts for iPad and Android versions of same app?

    Hi there,
      When creating an Android version of an iPad DPS app should the account used to create the content (the 'Title ID' in the DPS App Builder) be the same for both versions, or different? In the content viewer I know that iPad content will show up even on Android, so I'm thinking that the answer is probably no, but I haven't managed to find it mentioned in the Adobe docs.
      Thanks,
    Toby

    It depends, but usually the answer is that you want to use a different account for iOS and Android. Not all features supported in the iOS viewer are supported in the Android viewer. For example, if you use panoramas or iOS-specific web views in your articles, you'll want to be able to use different content for the Android viewers. Search for "dps supported features" for a comparison chart.
    I use different Application accounts for my apps. I use the Share/Copy feature to transfer the folios from the iOS account to the Android (or Windows) account. Then I delete the few articles that don't work well in the viewer and replace them with articles generated from different source files. That works well and doesn't require too much extra effort.
    If you want to reduce the amount of letterboxing in Android viewers, you'll definitely want to use different accounts and use, for example, 1280x800 folios instead of 1024x768.

  • Best Practice in V7.0 : Issues with Sales Planning and Reporting

    I am trying to install the SAP Best Practices for BPC 5.1 on SAP PBC 7.0 SP 04 I have done this as I cannot find any Best Practice documents for version 7 as yet.
    I have managed to get through the Administration setup and most of the BPC -Administration Configuration Guide, however I am having a problem with 7.4 Running a Data ManagementPackage - Import on page 32 of 36. This step involves you uploading a data file Demo_Revenue_Data.txt into BPC.
    The file says that it has failed due to Ínvalid dimension ACCOUNT in lookup.
    I believe that this error may be driven by a previous step 6.4 Creating Script Logic where the logic for BP_Sales Application was required.
    My question is twofold in that I need to determine:
    1. Has anyone else tried the BestPractices for BPC 5.0 in BPC 7.0?
    2. Does anyone know how to overcome the error when uploading the Demo Revenue into BPC?
    Edited by: Kevin West on Jul 8, 2009 2:03 PM

    Hi,
    BPC best practices document from 5 is working fine also for 7.0 because 7.0 is just an update for 5.x.
    Running Import involve logic just if you are running the package with option enabled (Run Default Logic).
    Your issue seems to be related to maping which means you have to check Transformation and Conversion file.
    Any way the best practices document will not provide you information about how to build Transformation and Conversion files.
    You have to follow an SAP BPC training and that it will help you to build your applicatioon easier and faster.

  • Best practice for releases/iterations

    I'm working with scenario 2+. I read all the tutorials and articles about JDI and branches (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?
    blog=/pub/wlg/2408) but I couldn’t find the answer about how to approach small versions and releases. Working with JDI, what is the best practice for small versions and for releases? Should I create a new track/branch for each release (1.0, 2.0) ? What should I do for iterations/small versions (1.1, 1.2, 2.1)? Could you tag a group of DCs so then you could return to that tagged version?
    Thanks a lot for your reply!

    Hi Deborah,
    how you deal with SCs, SC versions and tracks depends on your use case.
    If you are doing in-house-development there is often no need to maintain other than the last release. So you can work with one SC version and one track. But you can also work with several SC versions and tracks. This enables you to come back to a former release (or version) if you made some critical errors.
    If you write software for different customers you always have to create a new SC version (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0, ...) and then a new track if you implement new features. Your old releases have to be maintained. So you have to have a track as a basis for maintance.
    If you say 'My customers always get the latest release even if they did not pay for the new features' you can of course work with a lower amount of SC versions and tracks.
    The answer to your question 'Could you tag a group of DCs...' is: NO.
    You have to create a new SC version and a new track.
    There may also be other approaches but I hope this helps a bit.
    Regards
    Helmut

    1. Can Customer can take the best practices solution and implement as it is?  If so how much time will it take ?
    2.  How the Best Practices documents are getting upgraded ?technically or functionally ?
      I came to know that  many of the business scenarios versions are with the  same text and no new features. Is that correct or Am I wrong ?

  • Best practices for adding CLICK listeners to complicated menus?

    OK, I’m gonna wear out my welcome but here’s my last question of the day:
    I’ve got a project that is essentially a large collection of menus, some buttons common across multiple screens, others unique. The following link is the work in progress, most of the complexity is in the “Star Action Items and Forms” area (btw: the audio in the launch presentation is just a placeholder track, I know we can't use it):
    http://www.appliedcd.com/Be-A-star/Be-A-star.html
    To deal with the large number buttons my timeline simply has the following for every menu frame:
    stop();
    initFrame();
    The initFrame() function then has a list of frames and activates the buttons appearing on each screen, a very simplified example follows. In this example commonButtons span all 3 menus, semiCommonButtons span menu 2 and 3, button1A, button2A, etc… are unique per menu.:
    function initFrame():void {
         var myFrame:String = this.currentLabel;
         commonButton1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
         commonButton2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
         commonButton3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
         switch(myFrame) {
              case "menu1":
                   button1A.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   button1B.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   button1C.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
              break;
              case "menu2":
                   semiCommonButton1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   semiCommonButton2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   semiCommonButton3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   button2A.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   button2B.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   button2C.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
              break;
              case "menu3":
                   button3A.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   button3B.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
                   button3C.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onInternalLink);
              break;
    The way the project was designed, I “thought” menu3 would only be accessible through menu2, thus guaranteeing that the semiCommonButtons would get initialized, but I forgot the functionality of my back button could jump the user directly from menu1 to menu3. The solution is simple, initialize every button on every navigation  target, however, is this really the best way to initialize a bunch of buttons? Another possible approach would be to have an array of button instance names and a function that said: if instance XYZ exists, add listener, then simply loop through the array on every nav target. Anyone with more experience have advice on best practices in this situation?

    Hmmmm just run a test on this whereby I added the above snippet to my master page. I then publish a major version. I can see that every (Welcome) custom page layout has this data widget working, providing I add the div to the page..
    I wonder if the reason I can't add the snippet  directly  to an individual custom layout page is a bug or am I doing something incorrectly?

  • Best practice for adding text to Flex container?

    Hi,
    I'm having some troubles to lay a TextFlow class out properly
    inside a Flex container. What's the best practice to achieving
    this, for example adding a lot of text to a small Panel?
    Is it possible to pass anything other than a static width and
    height to DisplayObjectContainerController constructor, or is this
    not the place to implement this? I guess what I am looking for is
    the layout logic I'd normally pack into a custom Flex component and
    implement inside measure() and so on.
    My use case: a chat application which adds multiple TextFlow
    elements to a Flex container such as Panel. Or use TextFlow as a
    substitute for UITextField.
    Some example code would help me greatly.
    I'm using Flex 3.2.
    Regards,
    Stefan

    Thanks Brian, the example helps. However problems quickly
    arise if I modify it slightly to this (please compile it to see):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="
    http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
    layout="absolute" initialize="init()">
    <mx:Script>
    <![CDATA[
    import flashx.textLayout.compose.StandardFlowComposer;
    import
    flashx.textLayout.container.DisplayObjectContainerController;
    import flashx.textLayout.container.IContainerController;
    import flashx.textLayout.elements.TextFlow;
    import flashx.textLayout.conversion.TextFilter;
    private var _container:Sprite;
    private var _textFlow:TextFlow;
    private function init():void
    _container = new Sprite();
    textArea.rawChildren.addChild(_container);
    var markup:String = "<TextFlow xmlns='
    http://ns.adobe.com/textLayout/2008'><p><span>Hello
    World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello
    World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello
    World! Hello World! </span></p></TextFlow>";
    _textFlow = TextFilter.importToFlow(markup,
    TextFilter.TEXT_LAYOUT_FORMAT);
    _textFlow.flowComposer.addController(new
    DisplayObjectContainerController(_container, 200, 50));
    _textFlow.flowComposer.updateAllContainers();
    ]]>
    </mx:Script>
    <mx:Canvas width="100" height="100" id="textArea" x="44"
    y="46" backgroundColor="#F5EAEA"/>
    </mx:Application>
    What is the best way to make my textflow behave like a
    'normal' UIComponent in Flex? Should I use UIComponent instead of
    Sprite as a Container? Will that take care of resize behaviour?
    I have never before needed to use rawChildren.addChild for
    example, maybe you can explain why that's needed here?
    I realise that the new Textframework works on an AS basis and
    is not Flex or Flash specific, but this also poses some challenges
    for those of us using the Flex framework primarily.
    I think it would help to have some more basic examples such
    as using the new text features in a 'traditional' context. Say for
    example a TextArea that is just that, a TextArea but with the
    addition of inline images. I personally feel that the provided
    examples largely try to teach me to run before I can walk.
    Many thanks,
    Stefan
