Best practice to Deployment Oracle WebCenter Suite for enterpsie

I have a lead with enterprise client; and we need to proposed to this client best practice to deploy high availability on cluster environment contains the following components:
- oracle web center content: it will used for WebCenter portal (spaces) repository for x-trantent portal as well as it will used to build internet website using WCM
- oracle WebCenter portal; to build x-intranet portal
- oracle access manager for single sign on authentication
- oracle web tier for HTTP server and web cache.
i reviewed the enterprise deployment "http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/core.1111/e12037/intro.htm" and contains rich information on the configuration.
However; my question is could you provide us a best practice to deploy above components on a high availability cluster environment "on a Linux environment prefared" to support and tested around 20k users? By the way client already had oracle exadata 11g server and it will used for this deployment.

AW,
One way is creating EJBs.Please refer to the threads below for that

You can create a javabean and you can import that as a model .
Check the following project which will generate javabean (MaX DB)
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/softwaredownload?download=/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/business_packages/a1-8-4/simple_javabean_generator_project.zip
This project will generate a javaben out of the tables in MAXDB.
You can follow any one of the above.

  • "Oracle Universal Installer" instead of "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0"

    Hi,
I've installed HTTP_Server from [Oracle HTTP Server (Apache 2.0) (10.1.3.3.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)|http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html] ; unfortunately, I was unable to control the installation process (select advanced install, password, hostname, port number...), because I got the "Oracle Universal Installer" instead of the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" screen, as shown in the installation documentation.
Although I suspect I'll be able to configure via the various configuration files, I've had to install every single component, instead of just the one I need. Has anyone encountered the same problem and know how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Chris.

Actually, my problem is that I was not prompted to choose between basic and advanced; that's in the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" screens, as seen in the installation instructions. But the "Oracle Universal Installer" screen that I get when I click setup.exe doesn't give you that choice.
This isn't actually a big deal, because HTTP_Server was still correctly installed, but I had to configure it manually. I'm just trying to figure out why it is that I didn't get the correct installer.
Does anyone know how I can get the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" application instead of the "Oracle Universal Installer"?

  • Best practice - Production deployment

what is the best practice to deploy custom built application in production?
Where to deploy in Admnistration server or in manged server?
    Thanks,
    Shankar

    Hi Shankar ,
It is always better to deploy your application in the Managed Server. You do not need to restart your admin server while you need to restart your managed server for changing your environment related to your application. Admin Server is meant for administering all the managed server instances. You can have many different managed servers for different specific applications. So it is a best practise to deploy your application in the managed server.

  • Oracle Portal 11g, Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?

Witch of these technologies, Oracle Portal 11g,
Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?
is the future product of oracle ?
I am going to use portal but I don't know witch of these product is the correct one.
I need help to clarified it. As i am going to use portal I want to use the one that oracle intend to support

    Hi Harish,
There are lot differences are available when you compare these three products, some them are
    Oracle Web Center Suite
Comprises of various components such as Web Center Interaction,Oracle Entitlement Server,Oracle Personalization Server an Ensemble(for proxying content and mashups) and chat server, wiki server, blog server, forum etc are available with web center suite. The collaboration tools are out of the box,so you dont require to redevelop anything to enable collaboration for your site.Basically webcenter is more powerful when used to develop intranet sites rather than a website which requires less collaboration.
    Oracle Portal 10g
Oracle Portal 10g is the primary oracle portal product before oracle bought BEA.The main difference is the architecture and framework,Oracle Portal uses sql/plsql intensively for processing the page as all their pages are developed from browser.Every thing you develop is streaming that is queried from DB in contrast with weblogic portal which has the feature of file based portal which is faster compared to the streaming(persistent desktops). The architecture is different compared to weblogic and webcenter. For ex:There are sql and pl/sql portlets which can be developed very faster which not there in the other two platforms.
    Oracle Weblogic Portal 10.3
It is hot in the market right now and development is easier and architecture supports both file based and streaming, the primary features of all the portal product are more or less same but webcenter has more collaborative features.Weblogic portal is very stable as it is on WLS which is a stable weblogic server.
I prefer if you have any previous experience on any of these products then built on that one.Else start with weblogic portal which is easier to startwith compared to others.

  • Want the best practices docs on Oracle database Admin provided by Oracle

    Hi there,
I looked at everywhere and didn’t find the best practices docs on Oracle database administration especially on creating db in oracle 10g dbs. I can find bits and pieces here and there. But I didn’t find all incorporated in one. Could somebody direct/provide me on this?

ok, I'm not looking for the oracle provided manual to find out the best practices in db field. I'm looking for the best practices when creating the db in oracle db, for example. I can read all the oracle manual in Oracle tihiti world. But I don't know the most used and practical things to do when creating the db:- If I have to define what should be the best practices when creating the db, here are the checklist:
Here are the best practices when creating the Oracle 10 DBs:
    1.     Create meaningful database name
    2.     Create the directory structure following the Optimal Flexible Architecture(OFA)
    a.     Give suffix for the redo log .LOG
    b.     Give suffix for the data file .DBF
    c.     Give suffix for the Control file .CTL
    3.     Enable Password complexity
    4.     Enable ARCHIVELOG Mode
    5.     Use User Oracle Managed File
    6.     Create separate tablespace for data files and Indexes
    7.     Put archive log in different multiple drives
    8.     Multiplex redo log files, and control file
    etc.
I want to see what other db gurus considers the best practices in the field.

    did you do this part:
Launch Configuration Manager      Launch the Configuration Manager.
The Configuration Manager is located at:
    https://host:port/
Where host is the host you are installing on and port is the port you specified.
Log in to the Configuration Manager using the user name administrator and the password you specified on the Configuration Manager – Port and Password page.
The Configuration Manager displays a list of all recently installed components. Clicking the link next to each component leads you through the settings you need to configure to complete the installation. For information on the settings in the Configuration Manager, refer to the Configuration Manager online help or to the Administrator Guide for Oracle WebCenter Interaction.
When you have completed all Configuration Manager tasks, return to the installer and click Done.

  • Release of Oracle WebCenter Suite on OTN

Is there an specific date in which the Oracle WebCenter Suite will be released for evaluation on OTN? I know it says November 2006 in the FAQ, but just interested if it will be early or later in the month?
    Chad

    Peter,
You are correct, it says this calendar year, so, do you have any idea between now and the end of the year? As far as releasing on OTN, this is what is said.....
Oracle WebCenter Suite is part of Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3. When released, it will be available for download from OTN, and Oracle WebCenter Suite CDs will be included in the Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 media pack.
So, maybe the important question is when is Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.2.0) going to be released with WebCenter Suite on OTN?
    Sorry about the vagueness earlier,

  • [XI 3.1] BEST PRACTICE method of Oracle connection for RPTs on Linux

    Business Objects XI (3.1) - SP3.
Running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS.
7,000+ Crystal Reports 2008 *.rpt objects ONLY (No Universe / No WebI).
All reports connecting to Oracle 10g databases.
    ==================
In the past, all of this infrastructure was running on Windows Server OS and providing the database access via a Named ODBC connection (eg. "APP_DATA".)
This made it easy to manage as all the Report Developers had a standard System DSN called "APP_DATA" which was the same as the System DSN name on all of our DEV, TEST/UAT, and PROD servers for Business Objects.
When we wanted to move/promote a *.rpt file from DEV to PROD we did not have to change any "Database Connection" info as it was all taken care of by pointing the System DSN called "APP_DATA" a a different physical Oracle server at the ODBC level.
Now, that hardware is moving from Windows OS to Red Hat Linux and we are trying to determine the Best Practices (and Pros/Cons) of using one of the three methods below to access the Oracle database for our *.rpts....
    1.) Oracle Native connection
    2.) ODBC connection
    3.) JDBC connection
Here's what we have determined so far -
1a.) Oracle Native connection should be the most efficient method of passing SQL-query to the DB with the fewest issues and best speed [PRO]
1b.) Oracle Native connection may not be supported on Linux - http://www.forumtopics.com/busobj/viewtopic.php?t=118770&view=previous&sid=9cca754b468fc67888ab2553c0fbe448 [CON]
1c.) Using Oracle Native would require special-handling on the *.rpts at either the source-file or the CMC level to change them from DEV -> TEST -> PROD connection. This would result in a lot more Developer / Admin overhead than they are currently used to. [CON]
2a.) A 3rd-Party Linux ODBC option may be available from EasySoft - http://www.easysoft.com/products/data_access/odbc_oracle_driver/index.html - which would allow us to use a similar Developer / Admin overhead to what we are used to. [PRO]
2b.) Adding a 3rd-Party Vendor into the mix may lead to support issues is we have problems with results or speeds of our queries. [CON]
3a.) JDBC appears to be the "defacto standard" when running Oracle SQL queries from Linux. [PRO]
3b.) There may be issues with results or speeds of our queries when using JDBC. [CON]
3c.) Using JDBC requires the explicit-IP of the Oracle server to be defined for each connection. This would require special-handling on the *.rpts at either the source-file (and NOT the CMC level) to change them from DEV -> TEST -> PROD connection. This would result in a lot more Developer / Admin overhead than they are currently used to. [CON]
    ==================
We would appreciate some advice from anyone who has been down this road before.
    What were your Best Practices?
What can you add to the Pros and Cons listed above?
How do we find the "sweet spot" between quality/performance/speed of reports and easy-overhead for the Admins and Developers?
As always, thanks in advance for your comments.

    Hi,
I just saw this article and I would like to add some infos.
First you can quite easely reproduce the same way of working with the odbc entries by playing with the oracle name resolution on the server. By changing some files (sqlnet, tnsnames.ora,..) you can define a different oracle server for a specific name that will be the same accross all environments.
Database name will be resolved differently regarding to the environment and therefore will access a different database.
Second option is the possibility to change the connection in .rpt files by an automated way like the schedule manager. This tool is a additional web application to deploy that can change the connection settings of rpt reports on thousands of reports in a few clicks. you can find it here :
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/80af7965-8bdf-2b10-fa94-bb21833f3db8
The last option is to do it with a small sdk script, for this purpose, a few lines of codes can change all the reports in a row.
After some implementations on linux to oracle database I would prefer also the native connection. ODBC and JDBC are deprecated ways to connect to database. You can use DATADIRECT connectors that are quite good but for volumes you will see the difference.

  • Best-practice on versioning a soa suite-application

    Hi everyone,
I recently organised a seminar for customers concerning the Soa Suite Stack and one of the interesting questions asked that day was a versioning-question.
Let's say we've build a bpel/esb application interacting with different external and internal webservices and we've deployed this application to our production environment and we need to change an internal web service.
How can we add versioning to this heterogenous system in a consistent way? I know you can tell esb which version of the bpel process it needs to use, but what about the custom and external webservices that we've integrated with?
My 2 cents: You need to add a versioning-tag to you custom web services that you need to manage yourself, and use this versioning tag in the services your integrating with.
Could somebody point me out what best practice is, or what Oracle's development team is working out regarding versioning systems for SOA-applications?

    Marc,
Are you saying versioning isn't supported in ESB now? I thought that ESB already uses the versioning tag from bpel when you're integrating bpel and esb?
During the development of my demo I've seen that the version-tag was used when invoking the bpel process through a soa service.

  • Best practice to deploy some secret credentials in AIR app

    Hi,
Can someone suggest the best practice way to deploy some
secret credentials in an AIR app please?
For example, network connection settings or passwords ?
In my particular case (and since this is only for testing)
I'd like to deploy a password in an AIR app. So is there any way to
effectively deploy an encrypted store with the app ? (hope that
    makes sense!)
    Tks,
    Alex

I think the best practice is not to do it. You can't deploy
    an encrypted local
store file to another computer. You could encrypt the
    information some other
way, but that just moves the problem. If you have a server,
    you could have the
app connect to the server to get the sensitive information
    and put it into the
    ELS (ideally through HTTPS).

  • What is the best practice to deploy the SharePoint site from test to production environment?

We are beginning to start a new SharePoint 2010 and 2013 development projects, soon developing new features, lists, workflows, customizations to the SharePoint site, customization to list forms and would like to put good practice (that will help in deployment)
in place before going ahead with development.
What is the best way to go about deploying my site from Development to Production?
I am using Visual Studio 2012 and also have Designer 2013...
I have already read that this can be done through powershell, also through visual studio and also via designer. But at this point I am confused as to which are best practices specifically for lists, configurations; workflows; site customizations; Visual studio
development features; customization to list forms etc. You can also provide me reference to links/ebook covering this topic.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Nachiket,
You can follow below approach where the environments has been built in similar fashion
    http://thesharepointfarm.com/sharepoint-test-environments/
if you have less data then you can use  http://spdeploymentwizard.codeplex.com/
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/b0bdb2ec-4005-441a-a233-7194e4fef7f7/best-way-to-replicate-production-sitecolletion-to-test-environment?forum=sharepointadminprevious
For custom solutions like workflows etc you can always build the WSP packages and deploy across the environments using powershell scripts.
    Hope this helps.

  • What is best practice to deploy webpart into 1. Solutions Galary, 2. GAC, 3. BIN?

I am trying various ways to deploy webpart. Can you please provide me  best practice methods to deploy webpart into:-
    Case 1. Solutions Galary: ?
    Case 2. GAC: ?
    Case 3. BIN: ?

That is going to depend on what is in the web part...
There are "apps", "sandboxed solutions" (becoming deprecated in 2013), "Farm Solutions" if you have dlls that need to be deployed to the gac.
Apps - More for javascript (or if you have server side code that you want to run on a server that is not in sharepoint
sandboxed solutions - run in the context of a site, but cannot add dll to gac (or consume certain dlls such as system.web, etc...) so anything that you want to do outside the context of the current site collection is not allowed
Farm Solution - allows you to deploy .Net code to the GAC.  Would package as a wsp and give it to an admin to install (requires app pool resets and/or iis resets).
