Best practices developing welcome screen

Hi everybody,
I'm starting developing a welcome screen and using Getting started with a welcome screen | Adobe Developer Connection as a starting point. While developing the problem is, that the screen shows up only once. Then I would have to reinstall the app. I can't test the example in the browser since it needs the ReadingAPI.
What are the best practises for developing a welcome screen? Can I somehow force it to show up (maybe using the JavaScript console on my Safari which is connected to the cutom storefront via Developer Tools)

I'm not aware of a way to trigger the Welcome Screen other than reinstalling the app.

  • Best practice - Development Lifecycle in an SSRS, SharePoint and TFS environment

    Hi,
    We have installed our SharePoint/SSRS (in SharePoint integration mode) development environment servers and we're starting to think about the development process for moving reports to a test environment, then to a production environment.  Since the RDL files contain URL's specific to the server on which it resides (URL to the data source, URL's to images in an image library, URL's to subreports, etc), I'd like get some guidance regarding how to move RDL's to the other servers.
    Since we're planning to use TFS, one option is to use a build script to change the URL's in the RDL file from pointing to the Dev server to the Test server when we promote a report to test, then change the URL to the Prod server when we promote a report to production.  The data source libraries and image librarys will use the same paths regardless of environment, so changing the server name in the URL should suffice.  However, I don't really like the idea of changing source code (the RDL) during code promotion, but I can't really think of an alternate solution.  Is there any best practice guidance or is there anyone who'd like to share how their development process works?
    Thanks,
    -Mike-

  • Best practice: Developing report in Rich Client or InfoView?

    Hi Experts,
    I have a question on the best practice of developing webi reports.
    From what I know, a Webi report can be created in Rich Client and then exported to one or more folders. From InfoView, the report can also be changed, but the change is only local to the folder.
    To simplify development and maintenance, I believe both creation and change should be done solely in either Rich Client or InfoView. However, some features are only available in InfoView, not in Rich Client. One example is hyperlink for another Webi report. As a second step, I can add the extra features in InfoView after the export. However, if I change the report in Rich Client and re-export it, the extra features added via InfoView (e.g. report hyperlink) will be overwritten.
    As I'm new to BO, may I have some recommendations on the best practice for building reports? For instance:
    1) Only in Rich Client - no adding of feature via InfoView
    2) First in Rich Client, then in InfoView - extra features need to be added again after each export
    3) Only in InfoView -  all activities done in InfoView, no development in Rich Client
    4) Others?
    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Hi Ramaks, George and other experts,
    Thanks a lot for your replies.
    For my client, the developers will build most of the reports for regular users to view. However, some power users may also create their own reports to meet ad-hoc reporting requirements.
    It's quite unlikely for my client to develop reports based on Excel or CSV data files. And we need to use features such as hyperlink for documents (which is not available in Rich Client). Based on these considerations, I'm thinking of doing all development in InfoView (both developers and power users). Do you foresee any issue if I go for this approach?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Best Practice for Importing Screen Shots?

    I'm capturing 1024 x 768 screen shots resized to 790 x 555 BMP's (always keeping the aspect ratio) for import into Cp3 using Snag-It software but have never been satisifed with the quality of the images ... always a little blurry ... never crystal clear. My Cp3 files are often too large to use jpg's (75 - 100 slides). Any suggestions? All comments are welcome and appreciated, thank you.

    Hi Brian
    This morning I posted a small tip for working with large capture areas. Perhaps it will be helpful here?

  • Best practice for selection-screen in global classes

    Hello everyone,
    I have build several selection screens (overall 150+ select options / parameters) some time ago and want to reuse some of them within a global class encapsulating a ALV grid. Is there an easy way to forward the values of a selection screen into my class?
    I have thought of a function module (in the function group which contains the dynpros) to extract the values. Is this a state-of-the-art approach?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alej

    Hi Uwe,
    correct me if I'm wrong: I remember RS_REFRESH_FROM_SELECTOPTIONS not doing the job perfectly, what ever it was, maybe
    'RS_REFRESH_FROM_SELECTOPTIONS' reads only the main selection screen of a report; it will not give you SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF SCREEN ... contents.
    At least it is good for extracting the names of all SELECT-OPTIONS and PARAMETERS. Then use a dynamic assign like
    data:
      lv_assign type string
    field-symbols:
      <selopt> type table.
    CONCATENATE '('IM_CALLING_PROGRAM')' SELNAME INTO lv_assign.
    assign (lv_assign) to <selopt>.
    This not only enables you to use but also to modify the select-options on the screen as you want or need.
    I know since 10 or more years SAP warns to use the dynamic ASSIGN. But it works perfectly and will probably never be changed.

  • Best practices for managing Movies (iPhoto, iMovie) to IPhone

    I am looking for some basic recommendations best practices on managing the syncing of movies to my iPhone. Most of my movies either come from a digital camcorder into iMovie or from a digital Camera into iPhone.
    Issues:
    1. If I do an export or a share from iPhoto, iMovie, or QuickTime, what formats should I select. I've seem 3gp, mv4.
    2. When I add a movie to iTunes, where is it stored. I've seen some folder locations like iMovie Sharing/iTunes. Can I copy them directly there or should I always add to library in iTunes?
    3. If I want to get a DVD I own into a format for the iPhone, how might I do that?
    Any other recommedations on best practices are welcome.
    Thanks

    1. If you type "iphone" or "ipod" into the help feature in imovie it will tell you how.
    "If you want to download and view one of your iMovie projects to your iPod or iPhone, you first need to send it to iTunes. When you send your project to iTunes, iMovie allows you to create one or more movies of different sizes, depending on the size of the original media that’s in your project. The medium-sized movie is best for viewing on your iPod or iPhone."
    2. Mine appear under "movies" which is where imovie put them automatically.
    3. If you mean movies purchased on DVD, then copying them is illegal and cannot be discussed here.
    From the terms of use of this forum:

  • Building a best practice web application using ColdFusion and Jave EE

    I've been tasked with rewriting a software using ColdFusion.  I cannot seem to find a lot of information on best practice development in ColdFusion.  I am an experience Java developer who has never used ColdFusion before.  I want to build this application using a synergy of ColdFusion and Java EE technologies.  Can someone recommend me a book that outlines how to developer in ColdFusion?  Ideally this book assumes the reader is an experienced developer with no exposure to ColdFusion.  Ideally the methods outlined in the book are still "best practice" methods.

  • High performance website, best practices?

    Hello all,
    I'm working on a system with a web service/Hibernate (Java code linking web pages to the database) front-end which is expected to process up to 12,000 transactions per second with zero downtime. We're at the development/demonstration stage for phase 1 functionality but I don't think there has been much of a planning stage to make sure the metrics can be reached. I've not worked on a system with this many transactions before and I've always had downtime where database and application patches can be applied. I've had a quick look into the technologies available for Oracle High Availability and, since we are using 11g with RAC I know we have at least paid for them even if we're not using them.
    There isn't a lot of programming logic in the system (no 1000-line packages accessing dozens of tables, in fact there are only about 20 tables) and there are very few updates. It's mostly inserts and small queries getting a piece of data for use in the front-end.
    What I'd like to know is the best practice development for this type of system. As far as I know, the only person on the team with authority and an opinion on technical architecture wants to use the database as a store of data and move all the logic into the front-end. The thinking behind this is
    1) it's easier to load balance or increase capacity in the front-end
    2) the database will be the bottleneck in the system so should have as little demand placed on it as possible
    3) pl/sql packages cannot always be updated without downtime (I'm not sure if this is true or if it can be managed -- the concern is that packages become invalid whilst the upgrade script is running -- or how updates in the front-end could be managed any better, especially if they need to be coordinated with changes to tables)
    4) reference tables can be cached in the front-end to cut down on data access
    Views please!

    Couple of thoughts
    - Zero downtime (Or at least very close to it) can be acheivable, but there is a rapidly diminishing return on cost in squeezing the last few percent out of uptime, if you can have the odd planned maintenance window then you can make your life a lot easier.
    -If you decide ahead of time that the database is going to be the bottleneck, then it probably will be!
    -I can understand where they are coming from with their thinking, the web tier will be easier to scale out, but eventually all that data still needs to get into the database. The database layer is where you need to start the design to get the most out of the platform. Can it handle 12,000 TPS? If it can't then it doesn't matter how quickly your application layer can service those requests.
    -If this is mainly inserts, could these be queued in somesort of message queue? Allow the clients to get an instant (Well almost) 'Done' confirmation, where the database will be eventually consistent? Very much depends on what this is being used for of course but this could help with both the performance (At east the 'percieved' performance) and the uptime requirement.
    - Caching fairly static data sounds like a good idea to me.

  • Best Practice for link to WebdynPro page in welcome page

    Hi Experts,
        I am new in SAP Portal. I need some guidance from you guys. I have a requirement to create welcome page which is JSP and has a link to a WebdynPro page. I have to put the url in JSP file. So i do not know what kind of URL i should put in the JSP.
    The problem is if i put the url which i can see in the address bar like 'http://DevServer/WebDynPro/ApplcationA', when i transport it to another server ,for example Production,. The real url might be change to 'http://ProdServer/WebDynPro/ApplcationA'. It may cause the link in JSP can not be worked.
        I would like to ask you the best practice for this case. What url? What configuration?
    Thank you in advance,
    Noppong Jinbunluphol
    P.S. For the JSP, i create it in portal application dc.

    Dear Noppong,
    You can do it with multiple ways like :-
    1. Get the current host name and make complete URL with using host name for the webdynpro iview.
    request = (IPortalComponentRequest) this.getRequest();
    HttpServletRequest req = request.getServletRequest();
    StringBuffer strURL = req.getRequestURL();
    2. Create the KM Document or Link for webdynpro Iview OR Create the WPC Web Page for the webdynpro ivew

  • Best practice for having separate clone data for development purposes?

    Hi
    I am on a hosted Apex environment
    I have a workspace containing two instances/ copies of the application: DEV and PROD
    I would like to be able to develop functionality and data in/ with the DEV instance and then insert it into DEV.
    I gather that I can insert pages from DEV to PROD via Create -> New page as copy -> Page in another application
    But I don't know how I can mimic this process with database objects, eg. if I want to create a new table or manipulate the data in an existing table in a DEV environment before implementing in a PROD environment.
    Ideally this would be done in such a way that minimises changing table names etc when elevating pages from DEV to PROD.
    Would it be possible to create a clone schema that could contain the same tables (with the same names) as PROD?
    Any tips, best practices appreciated :)
    Thanks

    Hi,
    ideally you should have a little more separation between your dev and prod environments. At the minimum you should have separate workspaces each addressing separate schemas. Apex can be a little difficult if you want to move individual Apex application objects, such as pages, between applications (a much requested improvement), but this can be overcome by exporting and importing the whole application. You should also have some form of version control/backup of export files.
    As far as database objects go, tables etc, if you have tns access to your hosted environment, then you can use SQL Developer to develop, maintain and synchronize between your development and production schemas and objects in the different environments should have identical names. If you don't have that access, then you can use the Apex SQL Workshop features, but these are a little more cumbersome than a tool like SQL Developer. Once again, scripts for creating and upgrading your database schemas should be kept under some sort of version control.
    All of this is supposing your hosting solution allows more than one workspace and schema, if not you may have to incur the cost of a second environment. One other option would be to do your development locally in an instance of Oracle XE, ensuring you don't have any version conflicts between the different database object features and the Apex version.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards
    Andre

  • Best practice for function module development

    When designing a function module, what is the best practice. Should we develop it so that most of the extraction is done within the function module, or should we develop it such that prior to calling the function module the extraction should be done in the main calling program and the function module would have a huge interface of many importing parameters?
    For e.g. lets say for some business logic I need MATNR MTART MEINS BSTME and so on. Now by knowing the matnr I can get all the other fields. Should I create a function module with just matnr as importing parameter and do the Select on MARA in the FM or should I create the function module with all the fields as required importing parameters. What would be a best practise in such a scenario.
    Thank you.

    Now we are getting into the ecapsulation part of function groups.  Did you know that when you run your program, and it executes a FM, that ALL function modules in the function group are loaded into memory?  And that global data inside the function group can be shared across functino module calls?  This is how you would relieve your concern.  Lets say that all of your function modules belong to the same group,  And all of them need to use a record from MARA, and you don't want to do a SELECT in all of these functions.  Basically, you just create a global structure variable in the TOP include of the function group.  In the first FM, you simply do the select and put that data into the global variable, then during the next FM call(the FM must be in the same group) you can get the data from the global variable directly without having to go to the database.

  • Best practice for setting or detecting screen size?

    Hi All,
    Trying to determine a best practice for setting or detecting the screen size. For playbook and iOS, I can set them. But for Android, the number of devices is too large so I'd rather detect. My first choice is to use the stage.stageHeight and stage.stageWidth. This works fine if I set my stage properties with standard meta data:
    [SWF(height="320", width="480", frameRate="64", backgroundColor="#010101")]
    However, if I use the application descriptor file to set the stage dimentions (as suggested by Christian Cantrell here http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/authoring_for_multiple_screen_sizes.html)
    <initialWindow>
    <aspectRatio>landscape</aspectRatio>
    <autoOrients>false</autoOrients>
    <width>320</width>
    <height>480</height>
    <fullScreen>true</fullScreen>
    </initialWindow>
    Then the stage.stageHeight and stage.stageWidth are not the correct numbers when my main class is added to the stage. Sometime after the main class is added to the stage, then those numbers are fine. Is there an event I can wait for to know that the stage.stageHeight and stage.stageWidth are correct?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Lee,
    Thanks for the quick response! However, for some reason the heightPercent & widthPercent metadata tags are not working as expected for me.
    I have a wrapper class that I target for compiling, WagErgApplePhone.as where I've got my metadata
    [SWF(heightPercent="100%", widthPercent="100%", frameRate="64", backgroundColor="#010101")]
    sets some stage properties
    stage.quality=StageQuality.LOW;
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    and instantiates my main class
    var main:Main = new Main();
    addChild(main);
    my main class constructor even waits for the stage
    public function Main(){
    if (stage) init();
    else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
    in my init function, stage.stageHeight traces out as 375 (expecting 320).
    i have a function which is called via a button press event by the user, and stage.stageHeight traces out correctly (320) there. that's what makes me think that if i wait long enough, i can get the correct stageHeight before init/drawing. but i'm not sure what event to listen for, or if there's another trick.
    if i use Capabilities.screenResolutionX and Capabilities.screenResolutionY the correct values are provided for mobile, but these values are not useful for the desktop and web version of the app. if there's no other solution, i'll execute different code depending on platform.
    again, for reference, my app descriptor:
    <initialWindow>
    <aspectRatio>landscape</aspectRatio>
    <autoOrients>false</autoOrients>
    <width>320</width>
    <height>480</height>
    <content>bin-iOS/WagErgApplePhone.swf</content>
    <title>WAG ERG</title>
    <fullScreen>true</fullScreen>
    <renderMode>cpu</renderMode>
    </initialWindow>
    looking forward to any other ideas to try out & thanks so much for your thoughts! if you want to really dig in, this is an opensource project at code.google.com/p/wag-erg/

  • Best practice to develop the news web part to retrieve news data across the farms

    Hi,
    We have developed the News Web part. The functionality  it pulls the news from other SharePoint Farms and display it in the site. Currently we are using secure store service to  to connect to different FARM to retrieve the news from that FARM.
    The issue with this approach is that every time user hits the page it  will always hit the Secure Store service.There are almost 80K users who will be using this web part. Moreover this web part connects to multiple sites for multiple news from different
    division.What should be the best practice to develop such kind of web part without consuming the server resources and keep hitting the server till we get the new news.News does not change very often.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know which is the best way  to handle the large complication of SharePoint cross farm retrieving data.
    If you are developing the custom web part to retrieve data from other farm, I suggest you can firstly create a custom timer job to get data hourly in the backend and restore the data in a list. Then you can create a web part to link to the list to display
    the data.
    For cross farm accessing data, I suggest you can create a custom web service to achieve it.
    Also, you can use ajax to display the web part data asynchronously. It will improve the performance and reduce the server pressure.
    Here are some detailed articles for your reference:
    Create and Deploy Custom Timer Job Definition in SharePoint Programatically
