Best Practices- Number of users in Contract Manager

What is the best practices for the number of users operating in Primavera Contract Manager? We currently have v13.0.3.0

There are no real limits to the number of users working in PCM, but your server(s) must be sized correctly to work effectively.  I've seen PCM instances with hundreds of users.  Sizing requirements is typically included with your installation materials; otherwise you may want to look at the knowledgebase for this document.

  • Best practice to share user defined reports?

What is the best practice to share user defined reports among team members?
Currently I can create a folder under the Reports/User Defined Reports system folder and any reports or subfolders under that can be exported into xml by right-clicking on the folder and selecting 'Save As'. Then sending the file over or put it on a shared point or check in to SVN, then the other team members can right click on the User Defined Reports system folder and chose "Open report..." and select the xml file.
Is there any more elegant way?
Is it a good idea to share the C:\Users\lgal\AppData\Roaming\SQL Developer\UserReports.xml on Windows, or ~/.sqldeveloper/UserReports.xml (on Linux) among users?
Is there a standard way to bring this under standard SVN control in SD?

I think the best thing would be if someone set up a config sharing site!
It would be very easy to do on system like drupal or e107.  People could register and submit their configs to different download sections based on what sort of configs they are.  My site runs e107 so it's not hard to see how easy it would be
It would be easy to set up - I could do it in about 30mins but I think I have done more than enough of that!  There seems no need to officialize it to any degree and burden the server even more.
I guess user-cb could host it couldn't?  If you restrict people to posting only small config files with no icons and link to big stuff offsite it should be tiny bandwidth usage.
That's what I would do anyway

  • Best practices to secure out of bound management access

What are the best practices to secure Out Of Bound Management (OOBM) access?
I planning to put in an DSL link for OOBM. I have a console switch which supports SSH and VPN based on IPSec with NAT traversal. My questions are -
    Is it secure enough?
Do I need to have a router/firewall in front of the console switch?
Im planing to put a Cisco 1841 router as an edge router. What do you think?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
You're going to have an OOB access via VPN?
This is pretty secure (if talking about IPsec)
    An 1841 should work fine.
You can check the design recommendations here:

    Chose the security section...
    Hope it helps.

  • Best practices for EasyDMS Public Folder usage/management

    Hi,
We are implementing EDMS and are looking for best practices on the use of the Public Folder in EDMS.  We have different sites that have different business models, such as Engineer to Order or a "Projects" based business.  While other sites have a large Flow operation of standard catalog products with ordering options.   Initial thoughts are to put only documents in the public folders that are common to all users at a site, such as document templates or procedures.  Others suggest putting project folders there where anybody can browse through the different documents for a project.   And that raises the question about who is the owner or manager of that public folder.  We don't want the masses to be able to create random folders so that soon the structure of the Public Folder is a big unorganized mess.  Any thoughts on best practices you have implemented or seen in practice are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joseph Whiteley

    Hi!
My suggestion is to skip the folders all together! It will end as a total mess after a couple of years. My recommendation is to use the classification of the document type and classify the document with the right information. You can then search for the documents and you don't need to look through tons of folders to find the right document.
I know that you have to put the document in a folder to be able to create it in EasyDMS but at my customers we have a year folder and then month folders underneath where they just dump the documents. We then work with either object links or classification to find the right documents in the business processes. Another recommendation is to implement the TREX engine to be able to find your documents. I donu2019t know if this was the answer you wanted to get but I think this is the way forward if you would like to have a DMS system that could be used to 10+ years. Imagine replacing Google with a file browser!

  • On best practices for minimizing user impact for db/dw migrations

    Hi Everybody!
Our department will be undertaking the migration of our ODS and Datawarehouse to Oracle 10g in the coming months and I wanted to query this group in anticipation for any good tips, DOs and DON'Ts and best practices that you might want to share with the group on how to minimize user impact, especially when some of the queries that different departments use have no known author and would need to be migrated to a different database dialect. Our organization is a large one and therefore efficacy in communicating the benefits of our project and handling a large number of user questions will be key items in our conversion plan.
Thanks a lot to all those who can contribute to this thread, hopefully it will become a good way to record the expertise of this group's members on this very specific project category.
    -Ignacio

BTW it is not clear from WHAT you want to migrate? Other DB or simply other Oracle version?
OK anyway speaking about Data migration strategy there is at least one valueable article
    http://www.dulcian.com/papers/The%20Complete%20Data%20Migration%20Methodology.html
Speking about technical execution you can look at my article Data migration from old to new application: an experience at http://www.gplivna.eu/papers/legacy_app_migration.htm
None of them focuse on datawarehouse though.

  • Basic Strategy / Best Practices for System Monitoring with Solution Manager

I am very new to SAP and the Basis group at my company. I will be working on a project to identify the best practices of System and Service level monitoring using Solution Manager. I have read a good amount about SAP Solution Manager and the concept of monitoring but need to begin mapping out a monitoring strategy.
We currently utilize the RZ20 transaction and basic CCMS monitors such as watching for update errors, availability, short dumps, etc.. What else should be monitored in order to proactively find possible issues. Are there any best practices you all have found when implimenting Monitoring for new solutions added to the SAP landscape.... what are common things we would want to monitor over say ERP, CRM, SRM, etc?
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions!

    Hi Mike,
Did you try the following link ?
If not, it may be useful to some extent:
    http://service.sap.com/bestpractices
---> Cross-Industry Packages ---> Best Practices for Solution Management
You have quite a few documents there - those on BPM may also cover Solution Monitoring aspects.

  • Best practice to create users - Hybrid scenario

I would like to know what is the best practice for creating new users in a Hybrid scenario with all mailboxes hosted and no mailboxes on-premise.
Currently when creating a new user we go to our local EMC and create a 'New Remote Mailbox'.  This creates the mailbox in Office365 and the local user account in one wizard.
After the new user is created we have to manually add the user to the correct distribution groups, and security groups.
We would like a way to create new users using a template which already has the correct distribution groups and security groups.  This is how we did it prior to setting up the Hyrbrid scenario.
Is this possible?  Can we create a user from a template and have the mailbox created in Office365 at the same time?  We do not wish to create the mailbox locally then migrate it.

Thanks for the response DJStatik.  I think this tool might be useful for creating users in bulk, however we are looking for a user template in the traditional sense.
Occasionally we have a new user and (prior to O365) would 'copy' the template user to ensure correct groups etc.
We have tried making users from the existing template we have, but in order to create the mailbox in O365, you need to 'mail enable' the user.  We have noticed that doing this process causes issues with Autodiscover for that particular user.
To avoid the autodiscover issue, we have found it best to create the user and the mailbox in the same wizard - hence our new process that we would like a template.

  • Best practice followed on shopping cart error management

    Hi All
    application monitor via WEB.
    Shopping cart Error log:-
Shopping cart :- backend application errors
Shopping cart :- Not transfered to backend
sc xxxx follow on docuemnt(s) not transfered.
Shopping cart :- Spooler commuication errors
    Shopping cart :- Local errors
Really SC xxx has created a follow on docuemnts . why still srm system shows and it misleads others. sc xxxx follow on docuemnt(s) not transfered.
Why once the error SC resolved and follow on docuemnts created  , automaticlly error log deletes right.. why it is not happening some time. Should we manualy delete these errors?
What is the best practice you guys followed and clear these error?
    Muthu

    Hi Muthu,
seems we two guys are the only ones with webmonitor problems
but my situation is different than yours - the webmonitor tells me real errors. I am only investigating to get the system going automatically to transfer shopping carts later on, when SM12 locks in backend are off - like I state in:

  • Best practices for multiple users on a network?

We have a centralized server storing all of our media, and a Final Share system allowing about 10 clients to connect.  The details of the system aren't important, it mounts just like a local drive on each client and bandwidth is higher than FW800.
My question is what is the best way to handle cache files, sidecar files, autosave, etc. when passing edits between editors?  What should be stored locally, what can be placed on the server?  Of course all media has to be placed on the server, but can everything else sit alongside the footage?
The reason I ask is we started by pointing everything at the server, but now are having the good old Serious Error whenever two editors (in different project files) are referencing the same media.  We'd love to resolve this... assistant editors can't log footage if doing so causes the editor's project file to lock up.
    Thanks!
P.S. first tried called adobe phone support about this... not making that mistake again.  The most apathetic customer service rep I think I've ever spoken with told me they wouldn't provide support because our Serious Error was the result of network issues and not their fault.  And then that we should be storing our media files locally.  I didn't see it necessary to mention that local storage on 10 machines isn't that viable with almost 50TB of data.

    Hi Klonaton.
Are you using two Premiere projects or one Prelude project (for logging) and one Premiere project (for editing) ? I'll have to check tomorrow to be absolutely sure but we do sometimes have simultaneous logging and editing with -respectively- Prelude and Premiere through our small network, with no issues.
Changes to metadata and comment markers created into Prelude instantly appears and update into Premiere. Subclip don't and have to be sent from Prelude to Premiere on the same computer (or the media has to be imported again inside Premiere). I think it's normal considering how subclips work a bit differently in Prelude and Premiere.
Every files are on a thunderbolt raid drive shared on the network through an iMac. The Media Cache and Media Cache DB are on the network shared drive too, and common to every users and computers.
Also I don't get if crashes happen when your two projects are running simultaneously or not (in the latter case, that's a huge problem).

  • Best Practice: changing a user's short name?

I administer the OS X Servers and user accounts at my school, where typically a few teachers will come back from the summer having gotten married and changed their names.
We use a standard for usernames of first letter of first name and last name, where Ann Smith is 'asmith' - when she goes and gets married and wants to be 'ajones' at the beginning of this year, what is the best way to go about this change?
Users have network homes, and IMAP email is on a separate server. Here is what I was thinking:
For the user's files, make a new user with their new username, 'ditto' the contents of the old username's home folder to the new username, and chown/chmod the new folder's contents to match the correct permissions.
For the user's mail, use SirAdmin to add ACL's to the old username's mail folders to be able to read them as the new username, have the new username set up their mail and copy the contents of the old username's mail to their new IMAP folder(s).
Does this make sense or is this far too complicated?
Do I just tell these users to log in using their old name and burn their essentials to a DVD and just worry about helping them with their emails?
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated -- thanks
    BC

    Hi Blair
These look like good methods to me and should work. You could consider creating a second short name - something suitable like their first name instead? Enable Mobile Account (PHD) for the affected users and log in using that short name. Their account should now be created locally as well.
If you have only a handful you could use a spare machine to do it with yourself? More on this later.
If you these users have IMAP accounts you could enable POP for them as well. As you/they log in to download from the server their current home folder their mail should be downloaded also.
What you have after that is effectively a back up of their home folders and mail kept locally on a client machine or a designated machine you decided to use. Delete their account, create the new long and short names, create the additional short name (exactly as it was before), log in with those details and upload the locally stored information back to the server. There should be no need to worry about permissions etc.
What you could do is send an email to the affected users outlining the steps they need to take to achieve what you want. Minimal effort with maximum gain.
When you are happy kill the mobile account option as well as deleting the additional short name. Send another mail advising they use the first short name for logging in. There'll be a little tidying up to do in deleting the locally created home folders but you can do this at your leisure using VNC.
I would have in place one of the other methods as well - just in case.

  • PC Convert - Configuring Mail & Best Practices for Multiple Users

I finally came to the light side last night. I bought an iMac and now I'm trying to figure out how to best set it up for use by me and my wife. Our PC is set up with a single login account and I've created multiple Outlook (not Express) profiles, one for her and one for me.
Can I do the same thing on the iMac? Am I better off creating multiple login accounts and just keeping everything separate? Being new, I would rather set things up the right way the first time and not have to undo things due to my lack of experience with iMac.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Welcome to the Discussions, and welcome to Macs!
If you each wish not to see the email messages of the other, then your only real choice is to set up separate User Accounts (what you are calling login accounts). Of course using a single User Account, you can set both email accounts up in Mail, and if you keep the Inbox and Sent mailboxes expanded to show the separate Inbox (and Sent) for each account, then that works pretty well. It will not distinguish New Mail without looking in the the Inbox -- the red dot in the Dock will not separate for whom new mail has arrived. But the Address Book will be the same and shared.
The advantage of multiple User Accounts is that the entire Dock can be customized for the applications each of you like to use, if they are different.
The disadvantage will be in not sharing will include not sharing the Address Book, music and photo libraries, etc.

  • Best Practice for SAP BW project implemetation/management

BACKGROUND: I have worked with Microsoft NAV ERP system, but in my new job I am working with SAP BW including BPS.
In Microsoft world we had a framework covering all aspects of a project form pre-sales, analyzis, design, implementation called Sure Step. (http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/support/implementation/success.aspx)
The framework consist of templates like risk register, business case, requierement collection, questionaries and check-lists. In addition to cover the whole project management part of a project (texts about what should bee done in diffrent phases).
I found a template searching for some BPS stuff http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=SAPBPScreate+questionaree&source=web&cd=4&ved=0CDkQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sdn.sap.com%2Firj%2Fscn%2Findex%3Frid%3D%2Flibrary%2Fuuid%2F90465610-181c-2a10-eba4-eb6d550682f5%26overridelayout%3Dtrue&ei=7EzfTof3DqiQ4gTc0_C9Bg&usg=AFQjCNFJTtkQ8d3c3ZA_NbW0Gpot_m0SwQ
    QUESTION:
Does SAP have a similar project framework (for BW) with templates to use in different part of a project, like analysis, design and so on? Is it free for everybody to download and use?

    Hello Ramesh,
you should have a look at the SAP Instguide, and if it tells you to do as your colleagues say, open a ticket to SAP and ask, whether doing it the otherw ay could have spoiled your system. Anything but an official "yes, it's ok" won't help you.
For the other guys: have a loook at http://service.sap.com/instguides, there you can find all the guides you need.
