Best preset for Canon HF11 (PAL)

Hi.
I'm just wondering what the best preset is when working with footages taken from the Canon HF10/HF11 (PAL)? I'm currently using one of the preset for AVCHD Flashbased camcorders - is this OK or is it better if I create a new preset for the Canon HF-series camcorders?
Thanks in advance.
Stein

Using the PAL AVCHD preset should be fine... just be sure to select the correct one. I beleive the HF11 is 1920x1080 resolution so you need the "FULL HD 1080i" AVCHD preset... you also need to use the appropriate audio preset... 5.1 if you are recording with 5.1 audio.

  • Best workflow for Canon 7D (progressive) and Canon HX-A1s (interlaced)

I have been doing 2 shot interviews using the Canon 7D and Canon HX-A1s. What is the highest quality and most efficient workflow in 29.27 fps with the 7D being progressive and the XH-A1s is interlaced? I have been converting the 7D footage to ProRes 422 (HQ).
What Capture Preset is best for HX-A1s and Sequence Preset for radiating?
Your help would be most appreciated.

If you have the space, capture as ProRes....you can do that via firewire. If you are short, then capture as HDV and just work with it with a green render bar over the footage, and render later. Mixing formats is pretty easy as long as your sequence settings are ProRes.
And your interlaced camera will take on a progressive look. If you are OK with that.

  • What is the best preset for Panasonic Ag-AC8P?

I teach digital video and use Panasonic AG-AC8P. What is the best preset to use for this camera? Thanks

    Thank you for the response.
In reading these I realized my original question was unclear as I was in a hurry. Getting the sequence to match the clips isn't an issue, but when we import clips from that camera and play them in the source monitor, it lags very badly. Can this be solved by using the proper preset in project setup? Or does the sequence preset even matter when playing from the source monitor. One we get it into the timeline and rendered there isn't an issue, only when trying to play from the source monitor (for example when setting in and out points).

  • Best Preset for display on HD 1080p Tv using mix of pictures and video from Sony Camera

I have photos and movies I took on a Sony Camera.  I want to use them to create a slide show.  The photos are shot in 16:9 aspect.  The movies are in mp4 with a 640 by 480 resolution (VGA).  What is the best preset to use in Premiere 10?  Hopefully I did not screw up by not using the AVCHD setting in my camera for the movies.

    >screw up by not using the AVCHD setting in my camera for the movies
Yes, you did... if you want HD output from an SD video
Even Premiere Pro does not do a good job of "up-rezzing" SD footage to HD output
If you do not want a final video that is so blurry that you can't see any details, you need to reduce the size of your pictures and go for SD output

  • Compressor 3 best presets for VHS to DVD

I used iMovie to edit footage that was injested into my MAC from the easy roxio vhs to dvd kit. I ran it through compressor because the video was not recognized by iDVD or iMovie. I used my preset iphone to FCP 6. just to see if it worked to solve my first problem and it did. Now I am curious as to what would be the best preset/droplet to build that will produce the best quality out of the VHS footage? I did notice there was a color drop from the iphone preset I used. That preset is an Apple ProRes 422 HQ and audio is listed as multi track passthrough. Thanks for the help!

    >They come in as an MPEG-2 from roxio's easy vhs to dvd kit
Exactly.  MPEG-2 is a highly compressed format with a lot of information for 14 out of every 15 frames being thrown out.  And as you've discovered, it does not work natively in FCP or iMovie.  So when you place an MPEG-2 video clip on the Timeline and render, you're converting the video yet again, suffering more quality loss.  Then you exported ... which is yet another level of compression and another quality hit.  Then it will have to be compressed to MPEG-2 again for the DVD process.  Your chosen workflow is adding so much compression and conversion that it only degradates the image quality.
If this is the only way you have available, you could have used MPEG Streamclip to convert the Roxio MPEG-2 files so they matched your Seqeuence settings in FCP, thus eliminating the need to render (rendering converts the video so it conforms with the Sequence settings).  Or better yet, purchase, rent or borrow a DVD recorder and record directly from VHS to DVD in one step.
    Good luck with your project,

  • Best settings for film based PAL to MPEG2?

There's a fair amount of useful information online regarding the best settings for film based NTSC footage export etc but I'm unable to find anything regarding the best Compressor settings for the export of MPEG2 from PAL video from a 25 frames per second film sourced master.
    Can anybody help?

Okay, so after reading heaps of stuff on interlacing and progressive, my head is hurting. Since my 1080i50 Pal footage captures into Final cut interlaced and setting field dominance to NONE doesn't do much, I realise I need to de-interlace in an another application. Ken Stone has a great example of what to do in compressor though I dont have the current version (3) and am not sure how to reinterpret this for Compressor 2. I had a go without much luck. I am in the process of trying to use MPEG Streamclip to deinterlace and trying getting the right settings. Will see how that goes. I also have tried using JES deinterlacer but also wasnt sure about settings etc with this application either.
Which is the best to use and what settings should I set. I wish to use my footage for watching on our macs primarily and also from our mac server which is hooked up to our hdtv. I can then convert to other formats for iphones and web etc. But my main problem is this interlacing issue. I have a nice new HDV camera but it certainly isnt looking too much better atm than my old dv footage.
    PLEASE help!

  • What project preset for HD TV PAL ?

    Hi,
    UK is my location.
    Premiere Pro CS3.
    HD TV's are 1920 x 1080 resolution.
New project>select a preset, I can see HDV 1080p25 and thats 1440h 1080v.  480 less in width, thats a lot. 25% in fact of a HD TV width.
Does CS4 have a preset for HD TV ?
Likewise I dont see anything near HD Ready, 1366 x 768 is a common HD Ready, the HDV 720p25 preset gives 1280h 720v, I dont see this on any TV resolution charts either.
Why are the presets not the resolutions in use on TV's or on the Wikipedia chart of such http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vector_Video_Standards2.svg ?
What should I be choosing for a HD video making project or HD Ready ?
    Would CS4 offer those I need ?
    Envirographics

    Hi,
Ah...now understood on presets should match original footage. Thanks for that.
In my case though I have only stills and was thinking of making a slide show with also a montage pan .
What would I choose in that situation if aiming to make the video for HD 1920 x 1080 ?...no preset there that match my camera resolution of 3504 x 2336, I dont though see the point of working with 23Mb files as the TV cannot make use of all those pixels, no doubt Premiere will deal with that but such may slow it down during the project. I thought of resampling to suit a preset so hence the quandary again, what preset to use.
I have sussed from surfing the net that 1:1 pixel aspect ratio and progressive will be good for stills.
I have surfed the net for advice on stills and resolutions but not seen anything on this aspect of what project preset to start with. No tutorials either. Grateful to know of any links though to such.

  • Best Sequence Preset for Canon HG 10?

Hi guys, i have a Cannon HG10, but i am confused on which Sequence Preset to choose when starting a new project.
My settings for the Cannon are 1920x1080, 15mbps, PF25 (frame rate), 1080i
I want to choose the best settings possible for the best quality
also once my video is edited what are the best export settings for me?
    i'm so confused
    thanks for the the help

I you have no idea what to choose drag a file from the Project Window into the New Item Icon. That will setup the correct sequence.
On the whole it would be AVCHD 1080i50 non anamorfic.

  • Which Project preset for Canon 5D Mark 2 ?

Living in Europe I use PAL. But I am not sure if my camera (Canon 5D Mark 2) is AVCHD or HDV so I can  choose the correct project preset.
Then Full HD 1080i? Or should there be a choice of 1080p for this camera?     And finally  5-canal or not?

PRE does not have a 1080p option.
From the specifications (HD 1920 x 1080, MOV (Video: H.264, Sound: Linear PCM) you will need a "AVCHD Full HD 1080i 25" project setting.
I suggest you try with a small clip first to see how good the output is. Note that the Internet has many sob stories about using 5D video footage.
If you don't need to do too much with the file you could try QuickTime Pro - others post here saying that this is a great tool for .MOV files. I think you can also use QuickTime Pro to convert to a more PRE friendly format, perhaps other 'regulars' could comment.

  • Best setting for Canon VIXIA HF R21 for YouTube

I am looking for the best or most optimal setting for shooting video with my Canon VIXIA HF R21 camera.
I am using a MacBook Pro laptop and Adobe Premiere Elements 10.
My goal is to produce the best quality videos for a "YouTube" channel. The videos will be for a teenage car show shot outdoors and narrated.
    The current DEFAULT settings are:
    Recording Mode = SP, 1440x1080
    Bitrate = 7Mbps
    Codec = MPEG4-AVC/H.264
    Frame Rate = 60i
    Digital Image stabilization = standard
Here are possible "alternative selections" - please let me know if any of these settings are better than the Default settings for YouTube.
    Change Recording Mode to
    1. MXP = 1920x1080 @ 24Mbps
    2. FXP = 1920x1080 @ 17Mbps
    3. XP+ = 1440x1080 @ 12 Mbps
    Change Frame Rate to
    1. PF30
    Digital image stabilization
    1. Dynamic
    2. Standard
    3. Off
I will use Adobe Premiere Elemebnts 10 to upload the final edited video - what setting are the best upload compression settings if I want to upload for the ebst quality?

BillFlorida, I'm not sure what you're not getting here. Have you tried any of the things we've suggested?
There are two settings you need to worry about. One is your PROJECT setting. That must match your original footage, as I've indicated. If it doesn't, you're going to get poor performance and video quality.
The second setting is your OUTPUT setting. That's the only setting YouTube is interested in. If you use the output settings I linked you to above -- working from a project that's been set up properly -- you will get excellent YouTube results.
    Try it. You'll see.
You'll also see, if you experiment a bit, that there's virtually no difference in the quality of FXP and MXP -- especially if you're going to display your video online. The important thing is that your PROJECT settings match that 1920x1080 AVCHD footage and that you use the YouTube output settings recommended in the FAQs.
    Try it. You will see.

  • CS4 Presets for Canon HF M30 series

    Hi,
I am new to Adobe. I have a Canon HF M300 camcorder. I have a recording in XP+ mode which is 1440X1080 at 29.97 fps. I was wondering, when I create a new project in Adobe Premeire Pro CS4, which preset should I be using? Does  it matter at all? Also, what export setting should I be using for creating a DVD (not blu-ray)?
    Thanks.
    KKadi

    Welcome to the forum.
It matters greatly, that you choose the Preset, that matches your footage 100%. If that material is AVCHD Lite, there should be such a Preset in CS4.2 and above. If there is not, you will want to choose the Desktop Preset, where you can customize almost every attribute to match.
For DVD, you have two choices: Export as DV-AVI, Import into En and let it do the Transcoding, or to Export to DVD-compliant MPEG-2, and Import that inot Encore.
Now, you are Scaling down HD to SD. This ARTICLE's links might be helpful for maintaining the highest quality with that workflow.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Best lens for Canon 50D to shoot sports

I am looking for a lens for my Canon 50D to take sport shots of my boys?  Any suggestions?

f/2.8 constant aperture and moderate to long telephoto.
Really depends on how close you can get to your boys.  70-200/2.8 is a common sports lens, but you'll see the pro photogs have crazy stuff like 300/2.8 and 500/4.
A 70-200/2.8 will run you around $800-2000 depending on brand/features - The Tamron ones with no IS are around $800, I think the Canon L glass with IS is in the $2000 range.
    A 300/2.8 will be a few thousand, a 500/4 will be $5k+ easily.
Note:  If only outdoors in daytime, you may be able to get away with one of the (far cheaper) 70-300 f/3.5-5.6 lenses.  But these won't work well for indoor or night sports.

  • Best preset for 320x240 video

I have some old video that is 320x240. Which is the best sequence preset to choose in Premiere CS4?
My end goal is to edit the video (cut, splice, transitions, etc) and then export to the same size, 320x240.
    Thanks much in advance!

    Hi,
You might want to try using Gspot program ( free ) - if you're using windows - and get info about your file from Gspot.
Then you want to duplicate in your project the same settings you see as characteristics of your file as reported by Gspot.
That will probably end up being a "custom" preset....from using the Desktop option ...(editing mode = desktop )

  • Best settings for Canon HFS21

Steve's book is excellent and has a very informative chart but I'm still not sure. If possible, I want to pick one combination, if possible, and stick with it, one that works great for everything getting great quality with my HFS21 -projects that wind up on dvds and youtube projects as well. What's the best combination? Should it be AVCHD HD 1080 30 and shoot with 60i or ?
Another thing that I find confusing is that youtube seems to prefer non-interlaced. I don't particularf I shoot in 24f, which I believe is the only p frame rate available on this camera, and all the possibilities on Elements 9 are 30.

60i produces 30 interlaced frames, nicholas, so yes, you should use the AVCHD 1920x1080 Stereo.
And you should only shoot in FXP or MXP mode if you plan to edit in Premiere Elements.
