Best RAM configuration for Macbook (mid 2007)

Hi, I have a Macbook (mid 2007) with 1 GB ram and I would like to upgrade. Currently I have 2x512MB, so both of my memory slots are taken. Is it a good idea to have one 512MB card and a 2GB card in the other slot? Otherwise, what is the best RAM configuration for a mid 2007 macbook?
I am also looking into purchasing this memory card for my macbook, is this a good choice?

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Yes, I read the figure 128 in regards to the benefit. Something about interleaving, maybe?
In doing a Google search for that article I saw, I found this:
http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-notebooks/99215-4gb-ram-my-macbook.html
the maximum amount of RAM your laptop can take is 3.3GB. So while you can physically insert 4GB of RAM, OS X will only be able to see 3.3GB of it.
But I don't know how knowledgeable that poster is who says it can utilize 3.3 GB. I do know that the full 4 GB shows up in the System Profiler on my MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz.

I deleted iPhoto from my macbook (mid 2007, msc os 10.5.8) more than a year ago. Now I extremely need it , but could not recover it. Is here a way for some how to download the appropriate iPhoto version for my macbook?

Insert the iLife DVD or the second disc that came with your computer to install it. Then, go to  > Software Update and install the latest version. You can also buy iLife '09 in Amazon

  • Ideal 3GB RAM configuration for MacBook?

Pursuing more and more the idea of maxing out my Mid 2007 MacBook to 3GB, I have come to wonder, which configuration of RAM would be most ideal? (and also if it even matters on the configuration)
That is, is there an advantage to plugging the 2GB stick into bank0 and having a 1GB stick in bank1, or vise versa?
Or, does it simply not matter?

    KBHenn wrote:
If you use a 2GB+1GB sticks, you'll use all of the 3GB, but you won't benefit from the dual channeling, which as I've heard, isn't really THAT beneficial.
Coming from a technical background, I've read Intel's datasheet for the Santa Rosa chipset. It's really convoluted if you don't understand all the language so bear with me.
Intel actually has two levels of "dual channel" operation, and it's not really a true operation where both channels are run together in parallel. What they do is "interleave" where one channel can have (let's say) a read instruction started while the other is reading out data. It would be matched to the latency of the memory. If anything, it might save a few cycles as a data read is ping-ponged from one channel to the other. Their description when memory sizes are exactly matched is "dual channel interleaving". Their description when memory sizes aren't exactly matched is "dual channel assymetric", where it achieves dual channel interleaving operation for as much as the smaller memory, and single channel operation for the remainder of the larger memory.
I've even installed a 512 MB PC2-4200 and a 512 MB PC2-5300 module in my Santa Rosa MacBook, and it defaulted both to PCs-4200. This is in line with what I've read in Intel datasheets.
I'm not 100% sure if these functions would apply to a mid-2007 MacBook, but I have the suspicion that Intel had this same definition for "dual channel" for some time.
You CAN use 2x2GB sticks, but you won't get all 4GB. The Core 2 Duo chips only recognize up to 3.2-3.3GB. If you do use 2x2GB you will benefit from the dual channel, it's just that you wont be using all that you've put in there. It's really a matter of personal preference. I don't think you'll notice a huge difference in the two, and then again you may. It's all up to you.
Again - I can't see that it would mean that much of a difference given what I've read in Intel's datasheets. I think even 1GB+2GB will achieve an effective dual channel for at least 2GB of the memory.
It does not matter which bank you put the 2GB or 1GB sticks either.
    Correct.

  • Nominal/Original battery charge capacity of genuine batteries for 13'' macbook (mid 2007)

    Hello everyone,
I just wanted to ask which is the nominal battery charge of a genuine (from Apple) battery for a 13'' macbook (mid 2007). I have just bought a new one, and it has a nominal capacity of about 5500 mAh. I just would like to check if it is in good condition.
When my old battery stopped functioning I checked some information in the web and arrived to the followings conclusions:
    Webpages:
    http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batterie s
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    Conclusions:
    - Lithium-based batteries have no memory charge effect. This means, that you don't need to be careful about charging-discharging the battery to 100% and 0% sometimes every 3 months. It also means that you can keep the battery in good health conditions not charging-discharging it at all.
    - When you are not going to use your notebook for some months it is best to keep the battery at 40-50%charge (it radically increases your battery lifetime).
    - It is also good to keep your battery at "low temperature" when not using it. It seems that 0-20ºC is ok. For example 40ºC is really bad for your battery.
If anyone has any comment about my "conclusions", it will be useful form me .
Thanks for the information in advance,
    Jesus

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775 (telephone numbers for other countries - http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57). Provide the serial number and specifications of the Mac.  They may be able to provide a replacement set of discs for a fee.  These discs will be for whatever OS was installed on the computer originally, so if you have an upgraded version you will need to obtain the discs some other way.
You may want to just upgrade to a newer system version. Snow Leopard 10.6 would be a good one for that computer but you would need to make sure it has enough RAM to run it.  It would only cost $29 to get Snow Leopard from Apple and for the next 30-45 days until the next OS release in July it is still relatively up-to-date.
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

  • Boots only in Safe Mode - Macbook mid 2007

My Macbook mid 2007 with Snow Leopard will not boot correctly. The only successful means is Safe Mode (key S during boot).
All measures published in various postings have been conducted without any peripheral devices. These are:
    verify harddisc
    verify RAM
    resetting PRAM and NVRAM
A detailled overview can be found under here.
The existing original RAM and harddisc were successfully tested using a second identical Macbook. A new installation of Snow Leopard on the harddisc using the second Macbook was successful and started in this second Macbook as expected. This harddisc was then inserted into my Macbook, but it would not boot. Hence it is safe to exclude problems with RAM and the harddisc.
Attempts to boot with the Snow Leopard DVD (either via C plus boot or Option during boot and select Install DVD) are not successful. Attempts to boot from an external drive are also not successful. The boot process (regular, DVD, external) progresses to different states including grey screen with Apple and frozen wheel. There is no consistency.
From the various postings I have found and studied along with my numerous tests, I have deduced the following possibilities:
There is a problem with the GPU.
There is a problem with the keyboard (maybe someone spilled something).
I have found numerous solutions for "boots only in Safe Mode". All include booting via Install DVD, but this does not work in my case.
I have exhausted all my possibilities. Hopefully someone can provide more insight.

    lruetimann wrote:
What I am not able to test is booting with an external CD/DVD drive. However, there is no indication that the built-in drive is malfunctioning.
If you have a second MacBook (#2 working OK), you could use its CD/DVD drive loaded with the 10.6 DVD as the target disk to boot into, as the first Macbook (#1 the troubled one) reportedly cannot see a 10.6 DVD normally.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
In your case this would be:
With the MacBook(1) on (Host), the MacBook(2) off (Target) connect the firewire cable.
Start the MacBook(2), hold T key to make it the boot drive. It will appear on the MacBook's(1) Desktop.
Insert the 10.6 Install DVD into the MacBook(2).
It too will appear on the MacBook's(1) Desktop.
From the MacBook(1), select Restart and hold down the Option key to select Start-up Manager.
From Start-up Manager, select the 10.6 Install DVD which will take you into the installation.
If this occurs, then you have booted into the install 10.6 DVD, From there you could try and install it, see what happens.
However, if it does not see the DVD disk, then this would indicate a defect in the logicboard (motherboard), though which component I would not guess.
If it does see the DVD, in Macbook (2) and can boot into it,… I'd be surprised!

  • Macbook mid  2007 just booght leopard ?

The other day i saw an offer on "las units"on some notebooks on a store (compumundo, argentina), between them there was a macbook mid 2007 unit (2.16ghz white one), the normal price for a similar (but newer) model here is 6999 argentine pesos (1 u$s = 3.17 Arg. pesos), and they were oferring it for 4000 (since it had a scratch, that ended up being glue :P). Since here a c2d 13.3' notebook costs 5000 or more pesos, and comes with a 1.6 ghz one for that price, i had to buy it (i was looking for a nb).
Now my question: my mac came with tiger, do i have to buy Leopard ? or can i get it "for free" since i just bought my macbook ? (for some reason the online warranty check says the warranty last till june 2008, so i had to fax the receipt with the correct info for them to change it).
pd: compumundo is an authorized resealer

You have to buy it yourself. New Macbooks come with Leopard installed.

  • Best Raid Configuration for a 8-1tb hhd server

    Hi All,
I have been trying to figure out what would be the best raid configuration for my Windows 2012 essentials server. So I was wondering if I could get some advise on this. Here is what I would like to get out of this configuration.
I would like to split the 8-1tb drives into 2 VHD one with about 300gb for the OS to be installed on, and the rest to be use  for storage. I want like to have good redundancy, fairly good read & write capabilities.
I will be using this server for a Small Web Page and Game Hosting, Email Exchange, Critical Application hosting.
I would like the ability to enlarge the overall raid storage by swapping out my 1Tb drives with 2Tb or larger as the need for more storage arises.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

You may be better of using Storage spaces and not using raid at all.
