Best way to cull / organize bookmarks?

Over the years my bookmarks file has grown very large with lots of sites I do not recall ever visiting, much less saving.  What is the easiest way to delete and organize bookmarks into folders?  Going to "show all bookmarks" and deleting one by one is very slow.  Ideas please?  Many thanks.

  • What is the best way to create a bookmark for a returning user??

Hello all... hello again Steve...I am back with another question- what is the best way to implement a bookmark system so returning users can pick up where they left off in an AW lesson? I have tried the usual internet searches, always do, but the few samples/answers I have found were AW5, not much help...
I have a dozen or so maps attached to my framework, I would like a user to return to the last map he viewed before closing. (My AW is communicating fine with an Access database, so if passing a variable to Access and then back to AW when the lesson starts is on the right track, let me know...) If the answer here is too complicated, maybe nudge me in the right direction and I will dive back in.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has some guidance, I really do appreciate it!
    Terry

Try this outline, see if it helps ...
Grab a reference to the Map as you enter it, then save that to the database when you leave.
You want something that will give you the equivalent to a page number - if you have 7 maps hanging off the Framework, and the user is in the 6th map when he exits, you want to save the number 6.
There are scores of ways to do this, but probably the easiest is just to attach a calc to each map that has this code
(I don't have Authorwar handy to check syntax, so you should check!)
BookMarkPage = ChildIDtoNum(IconParent(IconID), IconID) <-- tells Authorware to return the "page number" of the current map
Save BookMarkPage to your Access database on exit .
On return, read the bookmark back into BookMarkPage, ask the user if he wants to return to bookmark. If yes, use a calculated navigation that uses
ChildNumToID(@the name of your Framework or it's ID, BookMarkPage)
Note that you could wrangle something similar by saving the IconID of your Map, or the IconTitle, but both of these can break if you ever update your file by adding or removing pages, renaming them etc. With this method, all you need is a simple page count check that ensures that you are not trying to nav to a page number that does not exist (use IconNumChildren).

  • The best way to upload/organize photos?

Hi I'm very new to Mac and I would like to know what would be the best way and place to upload and save/organize photos?
I have tried my card reader but its not recognized, so I burn photos on my PC then move them over to my mac by dvd so annoying (is there a cf card reader I can buy that will work?)
then when I get my raws in iphoto there changed to jpeg ?
what workflow should I use? should I not use iphoto and just use bridge and photoshop instead?
should I copy raw photos first to my external drive, then copy them to iphoto library?(which is also on my external dive), and does that mean that the 1 photo is taking up double the space being in raw and jpeg?
I'm finding this very tedious ,there has to be a better way
    thanks

I have tried my card reader but its not recognized
Your Mac will work with any USB Card Reader. Had you a card in it?
then when I get my raws in iphoto there changed to jpeg ?
They aren’t - though I understand what you might think they are. What happens when you import a RAW is that iPhoto creates a JPEG preview of the file. It does this to protect the original as well as to make working with it faster. But you can still happily access the RAW for editing in iPhoto or anywhere else:
iPhoto-> Preferences -> Advanced: Check the box at ‘RAW Photos: Use RAW when using external editor
You can still export it intact as a byte for byte copy of your original RAW:
    File -> Export, Kind: Original
what workflow should I use? should I not use iphoto and just use bridge and photoshop instead?
Only you can decide that. Here’s my take. The first thing I do after installing any Adobe product is trash Bridge. iPhoto will do everything it does - and a whole lot more. Particularly convenient is the way that iPhoto is integrated throughout the OS.
What is sure is that you need to make a choice between the two. It’s very easy to damage an iPhoto Library with Bridge. Best to pick one to the other.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
should I copy raw photos first to my external drive, then copy them to iphoto library?(which is also on my external dive), and does that mean that the 1 photo is taking up double the space being in raw and jpe
Yes that would be taking up two lots of space. But as I show above, it’s not necessary as iPhoto does not damage your RAW.

  • What is the best way of backing up bookmarks to an external hard drive?

I'm helping someone setup a backup routine on their laptop, and would like to include her Firefox bookmarks. With IE, I normally move my favorites folder under My Documents, so when I backup the My Documents folders I always have my favorites. I wasn unable to find a similar ability with Firefox, so I wasn't sure how to go about backup her bookmarks. My preferred option would be do to something similar with Firefox (i.e., move bookmarks), but since that doens't seem feasible, I'd like to know what specific folder I need to add to my backup routine to backup the bookmarks. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. Let me clarify my question. I want to be able to configure my backup software to access and backup Firefox bookmarks. I would normally do this by telling the backup software which folder to add to the backup. My preference is to use the actual (current) bookmarks, rather than a backup, but if I have to create a backup in order to do this, I guess I'll do that.
Hope this makes sense, but let me know if you have any questions.

  • Organize bookmarks with tags..I think..best way to organize is with tags?

Gosh clicked on show details about you're educated guess in reference to the current browser and operating system and my question disappeared?
I want to organize my bookmarks. I using tags the best way? I want, medical, ceramics info, shopping info, etc. so would tags be the best way to find the topics easily? When clicking on the old sites/bookmarks to add a tag there is no reference to tags anywhere on the page. How do I add one? According to the help system it should be at the bottom of the page...NOT. Please advise.

  • What is the best way to organize music by artist with various artist...

What is the best way in iTunes 7 to organize my music by an artist who has several songs that have appearances by other artist? I now have about 400 Artist, in my artist list.
1-Most of them are by the same Artist but with people who appear on their album as a special guest. What is the best solution for this?
2-The same Artist appear on someone else's album what is the best solutions for this? I would like to have as few categories as possible.
When I have a track with 2 artist, how will iTunes handle both Artist or do I have to determine? If I choose 1 Artist, does this mean that when I search for the 2nd Artist that the track would not be found. Please help me. I want to fix my Library so I can back it up.

Do you mean the Artist and the Album
    Artist fields?
There is the Artist field. This is for the
    artist(s) doing the song.
There is the Album Artist field. This is for
    who's album it is.
If there are featured artists on a song, I usually
take them out of the Artist field and put it
    after the song title.
"Smooth" - Santana featuring Rob Thomas becomes
"Smooth featuring Rob Thomas" - Santana.
This way I don't end up with a bunch of different
artists showing up in the Artists column.
That wwas exactly what I was talking about.

  • I have a long list of bookmarks. They are not sorted. They do not appear anywhere in the "organize bookmarks" window. Where are they? I want to delete a bunch of them but can't find a way.

This is Firefox 3.6.8 and Mac OS 10.5.8.
Right clicking on a bookmark does nothing. I don't know if that is a Firefox version issue or a mouse issue, but the mouse can right click on the Mac OS desktop and get the usual menus.
It is possible for me to delete bookmarks which still point to an active web page because there I can use the star to edit the bookmark. That is way too cumbersome a process for the long list I have. Some are old and no longer point to an active page. The star comes up empty in those cases anyway and I can do nothing about the bookmark.
Bottom line is that I just need a way to see the whole list and choose the ones to delete.
I thought they should all show up in the unsorted bookmarks folder but it is empty. That may be the crux of the problem.

Update - I discovered that the entire list of bookmarks can be accessed in the Organize Bookmarks window by clicking on the icon for Bookmarks Menu.
This seem like odd interface behaviour to me.
All the other software I use follows the pattern that an icon with a triangle to the left, which you click on to expand the menu tree downwards, shows the entire contents of the category when you click on the triangle. In other words, you don't get a different response by clicking on the icon from what you get by clicking on the triangle.
It also seems odd to me that when an unsorted bookmarks folder is automatically provided that unsorted bookmarks would not be placed there by default.
Anyway, by getting the list of bookmarks displayed this way I was able to simply right-click on items in the list and delete them, as I thought I should be able to do. Problem solved. Organize Bookmarks interface found to be somewhat unintuitive.

  • How is the best way to backup and organize Adobe layered .PSD files on iMac OSX maverick?

How is the best way to organize and backup Adobe layered PSD files on iMac desktop OSX maverick?

Please help me determine what is the bestway to backup Adobe layered  PSD files? I believe these are my choices to be assured this doesn't ever hapen again. Please comment.
Buy Apple Airport Time capsule $280.  But I am not sure if it can store PSD layers. Can it or do you have to have Apple Apperture  software to act be sure layers are saved
I had had trouble getting Adobe Cloud to sync to save files and so just trusted my computer to not ever crash.  Any hints on this procedure
Are there any hints on PhotoShop image organization for a current IMac usser ?

My backup plan is to use Time Machine to make a backup to an external disk drive plus I also do a clone of my system disk. So far between the bootable clone and the Time Machine backup this plan has covered all of my needs.

  • What is the best way to organize a tree-like structure of constants?

    Hello everone!
Need help with organizing my constants structrure.
I have several tables, and each of them need a list of column names to define the fields returned after query, and also a corresponding list of hashmap keys because that columnnames are ugly. Hashmap is where I store the result of searching through the table. This question is not about JDBC because I search through tables via COM interface, no JDBC ResultSets and other stuff here.
Finally, for each table I have two constant lists and I have a list of tables. What is the best way to store this?
My first idea was to create a enum and store column data in it as String array attributes: String[] columnNames; etc.
But in this case I cannot use each column and key separately.
Another option is to create two separate enums for each table: columnNames enum and keys enum. That doesn't look great also.
The third option is to create inner class for each table and store two enums in each of that classes.
Also I can store all data in hashmaps, Strings etc.
    (1) Finally, from your experience, what is the best way to organize all that stuff?
    (2) I have heard that smart Java programmer should avoid using the enums by any means. Do you agree?
    (3) Generally what will you prefer when creating a constant which has two values: two final Integers or enum?
    Edited by: Dmitry_MSK on Jul 8, 2010 5:22 AM

I'm not sure why you don't just invent a generic data structure (e.g., table name, list of column names and aliases of column names) such as:
    class QueryMetaData {
      private final String tableName;
      private final String[] columnNames;
      private final String[] columnAliases;
}Read into the above structure from a properties file, database table, etc. You can store meta-data itself in places other than enum constants, particularly if would like to change the meta-data without requiring a new build of your application.
That having been said, WRT to your specific questions:
    (1) Finally, from your experience, what is the best way to organize all that stuff?See above
    (2) I have heard that smart Java programmer should avoid using the enums by any means. Do you agree?Enums are better than simple constants using int or String or something similar. If there are known, discrete values unlikely to change frequently, I see no issues with an enum. They improve the readability of code, and there are enough syntactic sugar features in the language (switch statements come to mind) to make them appealing.
    (3) Generally what will you prefer when creating a constant which has two values: two final Integers or enum?
See above. Enums were introduced (in large part) to do away with storing constants as integers.

  • What is the best way to organize queue in R/3?

    Hi,
I'm in a middle of a project, where I should implement queue in order to sync data between 2 systems - r/3 and legasy one. I have few user exits (or bussiness events), which could be rised concurently in time, and I need only 1 instance of the sync module to run at a time. Well, I know the technique to prevent a program from running in multiple processes, and I have an idea how to organize a queue (my idea is to use transparent table to track actions which should be sync-ed), but there allways are some 'bottlenecks' that should be considered in such an implementation.
That's why it might be of great help if someone could share his/her knowledge on this topic or point me to the right paper/docu, if available.
I just don't want to reinvent the wheel, if possible
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Best way to organize/implement multiple ESB services

    Hi,
I am now thinking about the best way to organize and implement ESB services/flows in JDeveloper. The notions of ESB system and groups are clear to me, but this is more an classification on the server.
As far as I can discover, you can make an ESB project in Jdeveloper that contains a single diagram and deployment plan. When I look at the tutorials I always see examples that consist of a canonical flow consisting of one entry point with possible multiple exit points. For example a payment service to handle different types of payments.
I can imagine that you have different kinds of canonical esb flows in your enterprise. What is the best way to implement these flows? I prefer to keep them all in one project with a single build/deployment plan. In this way, I am not left with many esb projects for all the different flows. But, is this wise? I am also thinking to separate the flows in different projects on system or group level?
    What is your opinion?
    Regards,
    -Tom

    Hi Chris,
What I have seen in a project for one of out customers is that a single ESB is used that routes and transforms messages to a specific end-point. Colleques implemented a synchronous and asynchronous variant.
However, in my opinion you should limit the use of an ESB to the minimal. Only use an ESB when you want to hide routing rules (different payment-services) and transformation. If you don't need routing or transformation, I would prefer direct call to a service.
You mentioned that you also used the ant extension to deploy esb projects. I have problems with using the extension. Please can you look at this thread:
Dealing with changing service wsdl locations  in the ESB
Maybe you can help me out!

  • You used to have "organize bookmarks". It worked great. Why a new way of reroganizing bookmarks E!

I suspect I will be able to use the sidebar to organize my bookmarks, just like organize bookmarks used to work, now that I have found this out. But, it took me many tries over a month, to get the answer, and about 20 minutes just now. So, this is just a complaint. Why did you change the way such an important features works. Why does it make sense?

The name was changed to '''Show All Bookmarks''', nothing about the way it "works" was changed.

  • Best way to organize a large photo library on a 10.6.8 Macbook?

I have an older Macbook pro- version 10.6.8.
I am looking for the best way to organize my large library of photos (approx. 15,000).  I have both personal as well as professional photos that I would like to organize and keep separately. I currently use iPhoto'09 version 8.1.2 but it has become very slow and I would like to find a solution that uses better organization.  I am considering keeping my personal photos in iPhoto and my professional photos in another organization app.  I was thinking about purchasing Aperture, however it is only available for Mac OS X version 10.7.5 or later and the same goes for the latest version of iPhoto.
I am a little confused about what my options are.  Can anyone recommend anything?  I am looking simply for a good organization tool, I am not interested in photo editing or anything beyond that.

Well now we know that the speed problem is in your old library. Repair it.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Backing Up:
Time machine will back up, yes. Just be sure it's set up correctly.
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

  • Best Way to Organize Related Multiple Contacts

What's the Best Way to Organize Multiple Related Contacts?
It may be a Couple or a Family with common Address and Phone, but different names and birthdates.
Then I try to put them all in one contact listing.
It may be a Large Business where you want to keep track of information about
a dozen different people's address, phone, depart, title, email etc.  But It still
would be nice to be able to pull up one entry with all the business's information.
At some point, it will be necessary, I suppose to split the info into multiple
       seperate contacts.  When?
Is there a better way to do this?
    Thanks, Jim Baranski

IMHO, not a good idea. Best to keep to one person, one card.

Separate cards for each person; one group (or smart group, which is a fancy name for a saved search) for the Large Business. It won't be quite the way you want it (there's no "one entry" with all the info), but it's close enough for rock'n'roll.

  • WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO ORGANIZE MY MUSIC IN MY IPHONE?

HELLO. I'D LIKE TO HEAR (OR READ...JEJEJE) MORE OPINIONS ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION OF MY MUSIC IN MY IPHONE. I'VE ALREADY CREATED SOME PLAYLISTS BY GENERE, BUT FOR ME, SOUNDS BETTER CREATE A UNIVERSE OF MUSIC AS ONE PLAY LIST AND THEN (IN MY IPHONE) CREATE MANY PLAYLISTS DENOMINATED ON-THE-GO (THOSE ONES BY GENERE), SYNC THE IPHONE AND CHANGE THE NAME OF THE PLAYLIST IN ITUNES.
    IS THIS THE BEST WAY?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR OPINIONS AND HAVE A NICE DAY

further explanation: I was totally accustomed to organizing and using my photos and videos on an external drive when I was a Windows user.  Switched to Mac about 5 yrs ago, love it, and have adjusted to the differences, EXCEPT when it comes to the photos and vids.  I Understand where Ben is coming from, because I prefer keeping my photos on an external drive, filed by year, then month, then occasion.  iPhoto keeps getting itself involved, and in my way, and I'm just wondering if it would be better to surrender my way and learn iPhoto's.  I will check out the discussions on the iPhoto forum too.
I edit photos in photoshop elements, and have ordered lightroom 4 to learn.  I don't have any need for iPhoto, as far as I can see!
