Best Web Implementation

I've been asked to develop a web application which will generate a form from data stored in an Oracle 8i database. The process should be fairly simple. I'm anticipating the process will go something like:
The user connects and chooses a topic
A form is generated and sent to the user
The user fills out the form and submits it
A backend process reviews the answer, stores the results, sends a message back to the user
I'm planning on using Oracle 8I and OAS 4.0.8.1. Can someone suggest an implementation path? I'm free to use just about any other technology I wish. Can someone suggest the best (and hopefully easiest) implementation? I've considered PHP, several Oracle options, Java, and Perl. If you think one method would have particular advantages over the other, please give them.
Thanks from a DBA, not (yet) a developer!
Jim
BTW: I do know a little about cgi and web servers. But, I'm not a web engineer.

on point 1 :
java can be on same stack as abap. actually on any project I worked, java was on same server as abap.
It realy does not matter where the java is installed. (the connection to abap goes trough "jco" which can point to  abap stack of your choice)
I'm not sure it should be an SAP JAVA server, there are some special settings like "trex" in java server administration(visual admin tool), it is used to find your isa catalog in trex system.
there's supose to be an xcm setting to avoid this trexsetting  but it has never worked for me
I dont think you can just install isa on other java servers because of this.
Then again.. i'm not a system admin. they might give more info on this subject to force an trex setting in a non sap java server.
hope this helpes a bit.

  • What is the best web host?

    Hi,
I have finished producing two websites. One of the websites is a personal website which holds all the films that I have helped produce. It is basically a CV for people to look at on the internet. It will be a large sized website, not sure how large it will be, but basically need a lot of space for it, I would imagine. I have also finished producing a website for a dentist practice which has over 500 pages. Its current size is 150MB but I have a feeling that I will be adding four images per page to the site, which will increase the size. Anyways, these have both been created with iWeb and I was wondering what is the best web host to publish these with? Now that MobileMe has gone and iCloud won't publish websites anymore, is there a certain web host that all of the iWeb users have rushed to to publish their sites? I have looked at a lot of the hosts and they all seem confusing and their own business websites look confusing, which puts me off buying from them. I am looking for the cheapest host, that would allow me to host two website, so the dentist website and my own personal website, with no bandwidth limit or disk space limit. I have read the small print on two of the 'best' web hosts that say that they have 'unlimited' bandwidth and disk space and they say that it is not unlimited and they will either charge me more for exceeding the limit or they will shut the website down. The problem is that they don't state what their limit is so I am guessing that it is a scam. They are also only charging around £2 per month, which is fine but you have to buy like 2 years with them for that price. I don't want to do that. Would prefer it if there was a host that has a free trail, even if it is as little as 24 hours trial. Would also like to not be tied in for longer than 1 year. I would also like a host that has the domain names included in the price.
Overall, this is all getting too confusing for me and there is so much to take in. I just want to know, what is everyone doing now that MobileMe has shut down and iCloud does not allow Web Publishing?
A list of people's prefered web hosts would be amazing please. Also a breif description as to why you think it is better than all of the rest.
Thank you for your time and effort.
    All the best,
    George.

The most important consideration with website hosting is reliability and good tech support - not price!
Host Excellence offer a 30 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied. Also read aout the "Anytime Money Back Guarantee".
Be suspicious of cheap offers. For example, Yahoo offers a registration for 10 bucks but wants 35 after that. Try getting tech support from them!

  • Cursor Style, Forms Web Implementation 6.0

I am using the Forms server 6.0 with static HTML to display

  • What is the best web browser for iPad 2

What is the best web browser for iPad 2?

I have Mercury, Atomic, Dolphin and iCab. They all offer features that Safari does not have. If you liked the former mini windows view that Safari had in iOS 4, I think iCab would be a great choice. It offers something similar to that as well as tabbed browsing, DropBox support, it can identify as other browsers (I can't remember what that feature is called) and IMO - it blows Safari out of the water.
All of these browsers have more to offer than Safari, but I like iCab the best.

  • Your opinion on the best web server (for JSP) running on a NT or IIS

    HI,
Just a question : in your opinion what's the best way for work with JSP (which needjdbc 2.0) on a NT computer (or IIS) ?
    Is it Tomcat, JWSDK,...
    Thanks for replying.

I already install Tomcat 3.2, but it give me (when I load my JSP pages) different error as JWSDK1.0.1 and , for sure, my code is correct : the only thing which convinced me to change my JAVA server is that I need to use the Resulset.first method (implemented in JDBC 2.0).
    Why ?
Or have we got other JAVA web server

  • *** Best web settings for an HDV clip online

Okay, I usually export mpeg-4 but the settings are all different so I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with!
Dimmensions of the clip. The footage was shot on a Sony Z1U in HDV. Normally with my 4:3 footage I select a frame size of 320x240. For HDV I was thinking if I took 1440x1080 and then divided it by 4 that it would look ok (giving me a size of 360x270. I exported it and it was too thin from top to bottom and too long and skinny from left to right.
Sound. These are all new to me so I'm not sure what to select in order to give the best quality sound but not the largest file size.
I need to publish the clip in as best quality as possible and I'm not overly concerned with file size, although I'd like to keep it to around 60 megs at the most if possible.
Can someone suggest settings that would help me achieve this goal?
    Thanks in advance!

Just took a look in Compressor and I have a few more questions about settings.
I'm assuming I should choose 1 of the 4 selections for "web download" but I'm not sure which one. My main need is high-quality footage that is accessible easily by either Mac or PC users. Do I choose web download QT 6 or 7? After choosing this, which settings are best to choose? Do I choose LAN or KBPS settings? I'm lost here.

  • Is LabVIEW best for implementating an array of microphones?

    Hello techies,
I am planning to implement an array of microphones for localization of sound. Is LabVIEW the best for this or does anybody know a better one??
I would appreciate it if anybody could help me with this.
    thanks in advance !

    Stream of consciousness alert.
My sense is that LabVIEW is not the BEST.
The best is probably an all-hardware solution.  Very difficult to build, harder to debug, harder still to modify.
Introduce software, the next best is probably coded in machine language.  Probably harder than all-hardware.
Next best is to use a low-level language such as C with custom routines optimized for your particular problem.  Hard, but doable and not user-friendly.
Move to a higher level language such as C++, better UI, slightly worse performance.
Move to LabVIEW/Measurement Studio.  Slightly worse overhead, great UI, relatively easy to modify and debug.  Probably the only one that works on a reasonable budget/timeline.
99+% of applications would probably not need the performance (at least initially) beyond what LV can deliver.  Even if you did, you'd be crazy not to start with the most straightforward.
My personal bias is towards Measurement Studio.  I feel that it gives me the ability to get my hands dirty when necessary but maintain a very clean UI.  With LV I feel that there is some overhead when interfacing with external code.  If I already knew LV would I learn/buy Measurement Studio just for this application, almost certainly not.
Don't let perfection be the enemy of the very, very good.  I say go with LV.
    End stream of consciousness.

  • Is Dreamweaver the best web design software to learn for an aspiring web designer?

    Hi Everyone,
Perhaps difficult to get an unbiased answer to this in a
Dreamweaver forum but I'm sure most of you considered other web
development software before you went with Dreamweaver. Of course
the answer is not as straight forward as just choosing one piece of
software over another. I understand that there isn't really one
piece of software that ticks every box for the web designer. What I
mean is that there isn't one standalone piece of software that's
best for web design (HTML, CSS etc.), graphics and animation etc.
and that's why we have things such as Adobe Creative Suite. Anyway,
sticking to web design and development in the Dreamweaver sense,
would I be correct to advise someone who wants to work in the field
of web design to use Dreamweaver as their main tool? Particularly,
I would be interested to know if Dreamweaver really is the industry
standard as it's important to consider future job prospects.
I hope you understand what I'm asking.
Thanks, in anticipation for your help.

  • What is the best web compression ?

    Hi all web compression experts,
I have been trying to find out what is the optimum settings for files to be downloaded on the facebook. The limit I set is 100MB.
But when i rendered my 6.5 mins video in FCE, the filesize for the .mov file is a whopping 1.8GB. After much trial & error, I follow Diana's instruction in her Apple Pro Training book. Below is the summary of the steps she taught me in her book:
    Video:
    Compression: MPEG-4 Video
    Frame Rate: 15 fps
    Keyframe: 5
    Data Field Rate: 700 kbits/s
    Quality: Best
    Size:
    Dimension: Custom; I typed in 480 x 270
    Sound:
    Format: AAC
    Channel: Stereo
    Rate: 32 kHz
    DESELECT prepare for Internet Streaming.
With the above settings, my file size has been reduced to 35MB. So I can still afford to add another 65MB before it reach 100MB. I tried to change the compression to H.264 but whenever this option is chosen, the file reach 400MB and took ages to render.
I have also change to the frame rate to 25 fps but there is no difference in the filesize & picture quality.
Can someone be kind enough to gimme some tips on what the numbers in the setting "Keyframe: 5" & "Data Field Rate: 700 kbits/s" do to the video ?
Is keyframe 5 better than keyframe 10 ?
    Any suggestion?
    Thnaks

    skalicki` wrote:
    Hi again Ryan,
I just got very good results exporting as suggested by Vimeo in this link:
    http://vimeo.com/help/compression
    Format: Quicktime Movie
    Codec for video: H.264
    Frame-rate: Current
    Keyframes: Every 30 frames
    Data rate: 5000 kbits/s
    Size: 1280x720
    De-interlace: Yes
    Sound codec: AAC
    Sound Sample Rate: 44.1kHz
    Audio Quality: 128kbps
I didn't see much reduction in quality, and it reduced a 457MB file to 19MB. Judging by my calculations, if a 457MB file was reduced to 19MB, a 1.8GB file should be reduced to 72MB. Something to try perhaps?
    Thanks skalicki`& dpapa,
I tried the above settings but it took ages to render. When it reached 45 mins, I gave up. By & large, whenever I use H.264 it takes very long to render !

  • JAAS: Swing & Web implementation

    Hi,
I want to use the JAAS mechanism in 2 applications: one of them is a swing application and the other is a web application.
I would like to use the same interface for both applications.
I implemented it in the "swing way": using my own callbackHandler, LoginModule & principals.
I am using these files also for the web application: After Login, in the Java bean I create my LoginContext instead of using the j_security_check.
Can I use the LoginContext instead of calling the j_security_check servlet?
My guess is that the j_security_check servlet is just an implementation of the JAAS "swing" flow and therefore I'll get the same results.
    Am I right?
    Thanks a lot,
    Efrat

    Hi,
you can look towards jGuard (www.jguard.net):
it integrates JAAS in j2ee environment, and add more flexibility and many features.
    cheers,
    Charles(jGuard team).

  • What are the Best Web File Export settings?

I am running Premiere Pro CS3 on Win XP SP3, 4 GB RAM. I have tried several settings exporting a 2 1/2 minutes movie trailer to Windows Media Player, .flv, Quicktime, and Real Video files, so that I can add it to a web site for downloading. Of course, all of these are compressed files. I've tried very many settings but am having trouble getting a relatively good quality resolution file that is small enough to load fairly quickly. The best file is a Quicktime file. However, even though the movie plays in a small window, it is 41 MB (a big file).
Please share any settings that have produced a good quality file under 10 MB.
    Thanks,
    Linda

    > You just need to use a larger file or settle for less quality
This is not always exactly true. There are many things that can affect the perceived quality. In Premiere's case:
1.) Deinterlacing: If your sources are interlaced, Premiere (by default) will deinterlace them before scaling down for web export. Premiere's deinterlacer is as bad as it gets. If you are doing a ratio >= 2:1 (such as 480i -> 240p) it is probably better to untick the "deinterlace" checkbox, as the line-pairs will be blended on output anyway because of the large scaling ratio.
2.) Soft scaling: Premiere's Bicubic resampling is not really ideal for large ratio reductions. Unfortunately, there is not much way around this without using other tools.
3.) Noise: Video noise can greatly reduce the efficiency of encoding -- and therefore, when using a set data rate, it makes lowers quality output. Premiere does have a noise reduction filter option in AME, but it is quite slow and not the most sophisticated solution. You may want to experiment with it anyway: It can potentially make low bandwidth encodes look much better.
4.) Frame rate: It seems like a basic concept, but many people forget that you can greatly increase your spatial quality by reducing the frame rate. If you can live without the motion smoothness of 30 fps, you can get much higher quality with 15 fps at the same data rate.
5.) Two-pass Encoding: Unfortunately, Premiere does not have 2-pass for FLV VP6 which, IMO, is probably the "best looking" web output. You should look at other tools like Sorenson Squeeze or On2 Flix. In these cases you'll need to export a lossless intermediary AVI file to maximize quality.
