Better image gallery now!

This is a call for BC users and BC management.
BC image gallery module most be updated to allow for more customization! Most of my clients are not e-commerce clients. for them images and galleries are fundamental and I can't sell them BC because the lack of a great gallery module.
The only thing I can do is to develop a WebApp but why should a client pay for a full blown e-commerce platform just so I have the WebApp functionality?
I call BC to make image galleries a priority as the web is all about imagery! and/ or add the WebApp as a function to the Basic+ or Marketing packages.
What do you think? Where can I push this so I don't need to go back developing WordPress sites?
Cheers
Micha

I would disagree with you with you re-eCommerce. Since building a BC framework for that and reviewing most of them there are hidden costs to extra features, build cost features, integration issues and other problems of their own in all eCommerce systems. Most are just that - eCommerce only and marketing, web pages, custom features for your site or small things like the ability to do internal design. Many do not have that.
If you think Marketing sites are all about images and media you need to learn more about Marketing online businesses, a lot more!
In terms of the xml, it is not for them it is for you. They just put images into folders and galleries render on pages as you designed and how they want them, just as you can do if you know how to with the current gallery module.
I think especially with your last bit there about being nervous, I think a lot of it is lack of knowledge of BC and that will come as you learn it. Just as with anything.
Poplets, we got custom lightbox with large product image, side poplets next to it and other funky things like change colour of attribute, main image changes all through knowing the system and coding and done wll all lightning fast. Again it is just knowing.
is we need to have things not buggy, fixes and tweaks to do what we need to do to make sites which you can accomplish very nicely with knowledge of BC and better knowledge on the key aspects of the trade such as pragramming client side, CSS, HTML, web standards etc.
BC will be worse off if you think the priorities change to suit what your thinking. Sorry but I and many others including BC will agree with that. I think upcoming stuff from BC and announcments as well with the direction of the system etc wont be to your liking.
If things were on track with the ecommerce updates, liquid and things like and when they do come they clearly wont be for yourself but the majority to support better site implemenations, to hit bigger corparate business etc is the way to go.
If I can get 50k site buidls in BC with the money filtering back to Adobe, Selling things related to BC to people, scalability of the system, the infustructure to support bigger sites and more sites and bigger features, more integration with the big adobe services to offer more things to our clients..
Allowing more buttons to make the gallery render better out the box is a small fish in a big pond.

  • Images in gallery now dark and dull

    I added some new photos to my iWeb photo gallery, but when published, they look much darker and duller on the page slideshow, both in Safari and Firefox, and reds especially look horrible. The original photos were saved down to sRGB so they'd look the same for non-Safari viewers, but it seems like iWeb has converted them some other way, and they don't look very good at all.
    For a comparison, see the way one of them is supposed to look (on Flickr):
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/mlostracco/716062181/
    ...and how iWeb has interpreted it (using the same source image):
    http://web.mac.com/mlostracco/Bitpicture/Photography.html#8
    Considering this is a PHOTO GALLERY feature, it kinda defeats the purpose when the photos it produces are hideous.

    I thought Marsviolet had the solution for a moment there. Unchecking doesnt make the change Im looking for though.
    Joachim is close to hitting the nail on the head regarding the Gamma. What I am experiencing is almost precisely the same effect as if one were to open the image in Photoshop and adjust the levels (input-center) to a value of .81.
    Thats a gamma adjustment. Ive played with profiles in my images with no solution. The damage occurs as Marsviolet points out at the time of upload. If you watch your images in the iWeb window you will see it happen right in front of you.
    Not sure how Apple can get iPhoto images to match in appearance to those in Preview, Photoshop, WebBrowser (albeit with MINOR color shifts) and yet iWeb seems to bugger them up.
    A fix has to be on its way because replacing the images manually on the idisk is not an option, nor is saving out a set of files from photoshop specifically to compensate for the gamma. This is supposed to be an integrated suite.
    One could argue that it is not designed for the pro user but that would be a very weak argument as there are many serious amateurs shooting better images than pros just for the sake of doing what they love and showing it to the world.
    Come on Apple. Listen up.

  • Image gallery issue

    If a mod could delete my other post as I am quite far on from that and now having different issues.  Thanks.
    I am really stuck.  I will try my best to explain things clearly.  I am making an image gallery and I got the code from this gallery here.
    http://www.flashmo.com/preview/flashmo_122_3d_curve_gallery
    I made some changes to make it how I wanted it, nothing drastic though.  So now I have a nice gallery.
    Explaining what I am trying to do will better help explain things.  I am creating a modelling agency website.  The gallery I created above will display an individual image of every model in the agency (which it does).  Now when one of the model images is clicked, I then need it to load another image gallery which contains the complete set of images for that model, plus some of their information etc.
    The way I am approaching it at the moment is to create an individual image gallery for every model in its own fla file.  If say the first model is clicked (image 1) it will load the corresponding swf (1.swf).  I am not sure how good it is loading an swf into what I already have, but couldnt think of another way.  So now I have a seperate image gallery just to test things out, and I need to load it into my original image gallery.
    So, I will show the code for the first gallery (which displays the individual images of each model).  The important methods are p_click (which hides the first gallery and loads the external swf), and on_pic_loaded (which displays the external swf).
    I hope you understand what I am attempting, as I dont know if I have explained it right as my brain is going dead! (although I am liking the challenge).

    Current issues as the moment is firstly, I dont know if this is the best way to achieve what I want.  Maybe there is a better option someone could tell me about, but you have to remember that each image displayed here will have multiple images to go with it.
    In terms of what I am attempting above, I currently get
    Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: file:///C|/Users/Nick/Desktop/gallery/gallery.xml
        at _1_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
    I assume its a url error so I changed all urls in both fla's to contain the whole url path.  Didnt seem to work though unless I missed something.
    Any advise on absolutely anything will be so appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Nick

    Sorry about that.  If you can check my history, I normally always thank people who have helped, and I was intending to go back on the last few to sort them out.  Just got my first job so it has been rather hectic and been stressing out to much.  Also, I do things slightly different to other people.  If I receive a correct answer (which I normally do thank), I tend not to actually reply but to thank instead, mainly because if I reply I am pushing unanswered questions further down the list and eventually out of view.  I will go back and sort out the thanks I owe.
    In terms of asking the mods, other forums I visit are normally moderated by the community, so I assumed that someone like yourself might be the moderator.
    I tottally understand what you are saying, and as I say, I am normally on top of this.  Will go back now and sort out the thanks.
    Sorry for the delay.

  • Newbie Scrolling Image Gallery

    can someone help me figure out why my site isn't loading an
    external image gallery? the tutorial i used can be found here:
    http://www.oman3d.com/tutorials/flash/imagegallery/
    they made the image gallery is completely done with
    actionscript and it works in the .swf for the gallery, but as soon
    as i call it to be loaded into the home .swf it doesn't work.
    here's the link to the sites homepage:
    (oh and dont worry i know the pics are pixelated and some
    things need fixed, i'm just trying to get the site working first)
    http://lightboy101.110mb.com/bootleg/Splash.swf
    --- here is the gallery----
    http://lightboy101.110mb.com/bootleg/Gallery.swf
    if anyone can help me, please let me know. or if you know a
    tutorial with a better scrolling image gallery, that would be
    great. thanks.

    awesome! thanks! but now i seem to have another problem... =/
    the far left and far right images are cut off. it's as if the
    gallery width is being set to the stage of the entire site, and not
    the gallery.swf height/width. i think it has something to do with
    this code:
    myThumb_mc._x = (i-1)*myThumb_mc._width;
    myThumb_mc._y = (Stage.height-myThumb_mc._height)/2;
    and
    large_mc._x = (Stage.width-large_mc._width)/2;
    large_mc._y = (Stage.height-large_mc._height)/2;

  • SPRY image gallery bigger thumbnails

    Hi,
    I am new to Ajax (trying to learn) and i think SPRY it's
    great.
    I am working in the image gallery and i want to have bigger
    thumbnail images on mouse over- bigger than 24px - and i can't....
    I changed the css #thumbnails img to 50px for example but
    when i am trying to mouse over i get a mess.
    Also when i am trying to do this from the gallery.js in the
    "var gThumbHeight;" and "var gThumbWidth;" i get a mess again.
    How can i do this for example thumbnails "width:100px;" and
    "height:100px;"
    Thank you in advance

    OK, I solved the problem how to make thumbnails bigger while
    i am hovering on them.
    But now there is another problem......
    When a thumbnail becomes bigger in the Firefox everything
    works fine, but when it becomes bigger in the IE remains under the
    next thumbnail.
    I don't know how to described better.
    Thank you in advance

  • E65 image gallery

    Hi all.
    I have an issue regarding E65's image gallery and the way it works. Hopefully someone can help me out. Among other things I use my phone as my quick backup device and being a web developer you can imagine the number of gifs that are involved. All these are neatly packed in their folders and should be of no concern to the image gallery, but thats not the case. The gallery, thinking it's doing me a favor, wants to show me all images on all folders, both phone and card memory. Never mind that they're tucked away, some even 10 levels into project folders... they are all scanned.
    Now this wouldn't be a problem if the file manager had an option to view images in such a way that I could open one image and click left/right for next previous image in that folder. Unfortunately that does not work and I am left looking at the photos I've taken opening every file one by one.
    I had hoped that I found a solution when I discovered image gallery folders, but I cant for the life of me figure out where they're located. Even when I explicitly put an image in a different folder using the organize option it still remains right where it was saved. Why is that? Better still where are those special gallery folders saved? Or are they best left inaccessable to the end user.
    So to wrap this up, can anyone suggest anything ( besides hidding all my backed up images on a file system level ) that would prevent the image gallery from scanning them? Can it be made so that the "scan everything" is off? Any software update fixes this maybe? Any 3rd party image gallery which is not as smart?
    Many thanks for your help.
    Kind regard,
    Vince

    Regardless of E or N series this is a Symbian or operating system issue in that all pics, regardles of physical location are shown in the gallery.
    There are some ways of hiding or locking pics and I recommend searches on this forum to find those that are most suited to your needs

  • Is there a way to create a CSS image gallery with caption?

    Hi everyone,
    Ive been using the disjoint rollover, but I only have one
    thing that I want to add to it—a caption right underneath an
    image.
    Besides using that Project Seven plug-in, is there a way to
    create an image gallery without using layers? Or is layers the only
    way to do it? All I want (words of doom, huh?) is a thumbnail to be
    able to switch and image and add a caption to it. Can anyone point
    me in the right direction? Or is that Project Seven plug-in deal my
    best bet? What about Set Text of Layer in DW.
    Oh yeah, Im still using DW with CSS sprinkled in..any help?
    Thanks in advance.

    Of course.
    > What about Set Text of Layer in DW.
    That would do it, and it's not necessary that the layer stay
    a layer after
    you have done it, either. I do this frequently - make a
    layer, apply the
    behavior, and then remove the position:absolute from the div,
    and place it
    where I want it.

  • How can I create an image gallery with "next" buttons?

    So I am almost done with my portfolio site (YES!)..now I just need the actual content (the images). My site is written in AS3.
    I've watched many tutorials on how to create an image gallery (auto scrolling ones, scrolling ones that require mouse hover, etc etc), but those aren't what I am looking for.
    I want a gallery that looks exactly like this one here:
    http://jalbum.net/res/help/integrating-tutorial.html
    I have a lot of work to display in my porfolio so there must be arrows at the end of the thumbnails so I can add more stuff. So I am just stumped on how to make the image gallery work with the ability to scroll for more photos with the click of the arrows.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

    Watching tutorials and learning from them are two different things.  If you have learned from them you should be able to use what you have learned to devise a gallery such as the one you link to.  If you have learned from them and cannot use what you learned, then you probably need to find/learn more.
    If you study the design you linked you should be able to reason out what elements you need to devise... it is not overly complicated.
    For the large picture you could have a Loader into which you load whatever image is selected from the thumnails. To get a brief transition you could just set the alpha of the Loader to 0 when an image change is occuring and gradually fade it in after the image has loaded.
    The greatest challenge you are likely to face is in getting the thumbnails to advance back and forth depending on which is selected.  All of the thumbs would be placed in a container (movieclip or sprite) and that would be masked so that only a portion of them is visible.
    All thumbs that are not selected have their alpha property set to some value less than 1.  Selecting one calls for the file it associates with to be loaded into the Loader.  If the choice happens to lie off screen, then you need to move the movieclip that contains all of the thumbs some set value in the right (+x) or left (-x) direction.
    If you want the thumbnails to wrap infinitely then when one leave the thumbnails area for movement in a direction, you need to take that thumb and relocate it to the other end of the thumbs in the container.

  • Need advice/idea about Image gallery

    Hello to ALL!!!
    I'm trying to make an dynamic image gallery WITH!!! some
    active buttons above (for example: BUTTON1 with function "delete"
    and BUTTON2 with function "update") a picture and some "dataoutput"
    below (for example:Price). So, separate cell must look like:
    BUTTON1 BUTTON2
    <Image>
    PRICE
    For implementation this task I have:
    1) mySQL database "gallery" with table "test" and columns
    "Id", "path to image", "Price"
    2) 2 gifs: BUTTON1, BUTTON2
    Before my first trying I thought that it's simple, and I've
    tried:
    <!---action page---->
    <cfquery name="qTest" datasource="gallery">
    SELECT * FROM test
    </cfquery>
    <div id=imagecont>
    <cfoutput>
    <cfloop query="qTest">
    <img src="../Button1.gif />
    <img src="../Button2.gif /><br>
    <img src="#qTest.path to image#" />
    <p>#qTest.Price#</p>
    </cfloop>
    </cfoutput>
    </div>
    And it worked normal. BUT!!! Looping had a vertical
    direction! And any CSS rules that I've applied to DIV "imagecont"
    (weight, height) hadn't any effect.
    So, what I've get:
    I see all necessary information (on browser), but I don't
    know, how to format it with my dreaweawer cs3 and CSS.
    And I afraid that I've chosen a "wrong method" (I mean my
    code above)
    Please, give me some recommendations or advices.
    How can i archive my needs?
    How to use CSS in div tag, which includes <cfloop>
    code. I've also tried to use CSS with structure like:
    <div id=a>
    <cfoutput>
    <cfloop >
    <div id=b>
    DATA
    </div>
    </cfloop>
    </cfoutput>
    </div>
    But (div a)'s CSS rule HEIGHT take's no effect on <div
    id=b> :(
    And what about useful technique for displaying " action
    buttons" above each image in dynamic image gallery???
    Great THANKS for your answers/comments!!!!

    the css attribute you are looking for is FLOAT.
    see if something like
    http://www.photos-of-laos.org/top-rated.cfm
    is
    what you are after in general images layout terms. feel free
    to check
    the generated html :).
    re general css knowledge i highly recommend the book
    "Bulletproof CSS"
    by Mark Grabinski.
    re the 2 buttons above the image: consider turning them into
    css image
    overlays instead (when the buttons appear OVER [not above]
    the image
    only when a user mouses over) - it looks much better that
    way.

  • Image gallery From an XML file...

    Will flash reconize an XML file that is parameter based (Call
    Functions) into a database to create a type of listing service to
    show homes for sale?
    My client is wanting a basic image gallery for now that will
    later become a a fullfledged interactive document later down the
    road for showing options in the homes they build. First, they have
    Spec homes that they want to showcase (simply put these are homes
    they already built and are sitting on the property that are move in
    ready).
    Step 1:
    The end user would visit an HTML (CFM) document where they
    would choose there search criteria.
    Step 2:
    then another page would show with an exterior photo of the
    home, and a breif description where the user would select the home
    they want to view more infomation.
    Step 3:
    This then would load the image viewer which is the flash
    file, that would call to the XML file to load the parameters to
    which home model to show.
    The home will have a unique home model name in which the
    photos are labeled accordingly the same way...
    Exterior = ModelHomeName.jpg
    Image 1 = ModelHomeName_1.jpg
    Image 2 = ModelHomeName_2.jpg
    Image 3 = ModelHomeName_3.jpg
    Image 4 = ModelHomeName_4.jpg
    Image 5 = ModelHomeName_5.jpg
    etc...
    Is there a certain way flash has to read the XML file with
    parameters to translate it? Or what is the quickest possible way?
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Any luck anyone?

  • Creating an image gallery

    Hi all,
    I am trying to work out how to create an image gallery on a
    page whereby there is a set of thumbnails to the side and the
    relevant large image opens adjacent to the thumbnails when they are
    moused over.
    I have done this using the hide/show layers function but the
    output appears incosistently in different browsers and/or window
    sizes. I had in mind some adaptation of the "swap image" behaviour
    that would open the swap in a different position? Or alternatively
    making the layers approach display consistently?
    The layers version of the page can be
    viewed
    here
    Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated,
    thanks in advance,
    Graham

  • Need help with Image Gallery tutorial.

    Hi all,
    No response from Apex Listener Forum...moved here....
    Apex Listener - 2.0.2.133.14.47
    Apex             - 4.2.2.00.11
    When running Image Gallery application as per tutorial, page just show a blank screen with no image upload button.
    Am using Firefox 22.0 and Chrome 28.0.1500.72.
    Firebug does not display any script error.
    Had recreated tutorial on apex.oracle.com with same result as above.
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=4550:1:::::F4550_P1_COMPANY:HANAMIKE
    Workspace: HANAMIKE
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: yesla
    Using username= resteasy_admin, Password=resteasy_admin to run on apex.oracle.com.
    Had modified tutorial JS below :
    var workspace_path_prefix = 'resteasy';     =>  var workspace_path_prefix = 'hanamike';
    Another odd problem was when trying out the RESTFUL service as per tutorial when clicking the 'TEST' button, encountered error 404.
    Problem due to extra workspace name in URL as below:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/hanamike/hanamike/gallery/images/
    Had to manually modify it to:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/hanamike/gallery/images/
    Notice that the Listener version on apex.oracle.com is:
    APEX_LISTENER_VERSION
    2.0.3.165.10.09
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Zack,
    Thanks for providing the login credentials to your workspace.  I took a look at your RESTful Service and associated application, and noticed that there was something missing - the "Upload Image" button! So it looks like the 'Create the Gallery Application' section is missing a step to create a HTML region, with region template "Button Region without Title", and with its region source set to the following:
    <a class="button" id="upload-btn">Upload Image</a>
    You'll see in the JS that there's a reference to #upload-btn, but no such object existed on your page.  I created a copy of your app, which includes this new HTML region, and you'll see that I've uploaded an image as a demo.  I've contacted the APEX Listener team re the missing instruction, so that will hopefully be rectified in the next release.  Apologies for the confusion, but hopefully you're back on track now.  As for the behaviour you've noticed with the URL generated by the 'Test' utility, thanks for bringing this to our attention.  I'll do some further investigation there, and log a bug if required.
    Regards,
    Hilary

  • Anyone have a good tutorial for an AS3-XML image gallery?

    I'm a pretty good Flash developer, but I've never worked with XML in Flash.  I'm looking for a good tutorial on creating an XML driven image gallery, but I have yet to really find anything.  Does anyone out there have a good tutorial?  Thanks!
    Jesse

    Your best bets for getting something more specific to your needs will either be to...
    - search Google using terms like "AS3 XML gallery tutorial" and "AS3 XML slideshow tutorial"
    - take one fairly complicated tutorial and learn how it works down to understanding each element of what is being done.  Once you a proper level of understanding you should be able to reason out how to create one of your own with whatever different features you prefer
