BEx Analyzer: User ID based performance issue

Hello Ladies and Gents,
<b>The issue:</b>
My BW team just upgraded our system to 2004s and we are experiencing an odd userid based performance issue.  If we run a query from the BEx Analyzer with user ID 'A' it takes about 3min for the variable selection screen to appear. If I log into the same machine user ID 'A' was using on my user ID B the query variable selection screen appears within seconds. What could possibly cause this?
<b>What we know so far:</b>
1. Investigated the security roles, seems like that is not the issue.
2. It is PC client independent.  Two different user IDs(A and B) on the same machine running the same query in the same way (clicking through the BEx browser) produces different response times for the appearance of the variable selection screen.
Points will be rewarded and help will be greatly appreciated!

User specific personalization is retrieved before displaying the input variables. That might be a possibility, but hard to see it making such a difference.  Do you always try the sequence of User A, then User B, or have you confirmed that when you start with User B, it is quick, and tehn slow whne trying User A?
Probably the best approach is to activate Trace and then logon with User A, turn trace off and print or save, then do the same thing for User B and compare.  The trace will show you all the various SQL stmts and such that run as part of your trying to launch the query.
Please post back anything you learn.
Some info on Personalization  for the Help pages.
Personalization in BEx
Use
This function allows users to fill variables with user-specific values, to save user-specific accesses to BI objects for the history view in the BEx Open dialog box, and to save user-specific start views for Web applications.
Integration
The personalized data is stored in different DataStore objects, according to the personalization area.
·        User-specific variable values are stored in the DataStore object 0Pers_VAR.
·        Personalized data for the history view is stored in the DataStore object 0Pers_BOD.
·        Personalized start views for the Web application are stored in the DataStore object 0Pers_WTE.

  • BEx Analyzer 3.1 Workbook Performance

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I have to evaluate  the performance of BEx Workbook in SAP BW 3.1. Some of the CCA Workbooks takes 1 hour to load. As I know RSRT can use to evaluate the query performance and RSTT is use for workbook trace in BI 7.0  but how can i evaluate the performance of BEx Workbook in SAP BW 3.1. All kind of help will be appreciated.

  • BEx Analyzer Query Selection Variable Screen Issue

We are in the process of applying support packs to our system--BI7.01 and we are going from SP04 to SP10.  After the application of support packs, when we execute a query (or a workbook with attached query), the query variable screen that normally appears does not, the query just executes without being able to filter/enter selection criteria.
We are using BEx Analyzer 3.5--long story about not upgrading to BEx 7.x.  In our systems without support packs, the queries/workbook execute as expected.  I've tried making a variable mandatory in one of the queries as a test and the selection screen then appears; however, we have hundreds of queries.
I've searched SDN and OSS and have found some similar issues, but not a solution.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello Michael,
Thanks for the informationit's funny as I think I was stumbling upon this notegoing support pack by support pack--when you posted it.
We applied to our development system and we are now getting the selection screens, so it does appear to resolve the situation.  Thanks again for the information.

    Hi Tyler,
Please check to make sure that you are on the correct support package.
For Microsoft Office and Vista support, you need to be on SAP NetWeaver support package <b>stack</b> 12, which is equivalent to SAP NetWeaver <b>BI support package 13</b>.
Please see https://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000674496& for the mapping of BI support packages to NW support package stacks.

  • Performance Issues with Acrobat Reader 11.0.0.2 when secure mode is enabled

    Hello All,
We are experiencing sporadic issues with Acrobat 11.0.0.2 across our domain, users are reporting performance issues when opening PDF documents whether locally or from a network share.
We have found that turning off Secure Mode helps towards reducing this delay and in the cases it doesn't we are repairing the installation and/or reinstalling the application.
Due to the security implications we need to leave this turned on, I am wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and what steps were taken towards resolving it?
I also wonder whether the white list function in the new release 11.0.0.3 would be a solution to this issue?
    Kind Regards,
    Ryan McCarty

    No probelm, so....
We had no problems with Adobe Reader 9 and 10, we encountered the issues when upgrading to 11.0.0.2.
Initially we found that turning off the Protected Mode, helped but did not resolve the issue.
    We tried;
    1. Turn off protected mode - issue still present
    2. Clearing the recent file registry using the below registry path and deleting the keys underneath it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral\cRecentFiles (this does not turn recent files off permanently). - works but needs clearing regularly
    3. Turning off welcome screen by creating -  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cWelcomeScreen - works to improve app open speed.
    4. uninstall/reinstall of 11.0.0.2 - works most likley due to the recent files being cleared.
    5. upgrade to 11.0.0.3 - issue still present
Following reboots the issue is still present.
When Adobe Reader is the only application open this issue is still present.
As mentioned I have no systems available which I could test this issue using 11.0.0.1 as we have fixed them, albeit temporarily using the reinstall method.
I am concious that this issue is going to reoccur once that cache (recent files) builds back up because the fix above (#2) is clearing the recent files cache NOT disabling it.

  • BEx Analyzer bug in selection mask when selectin month values?

    Hi Gurus,
I´m working with NW BI 7.0 and using BEx Analyzer 7.X (based on 7.20, Support Package 5, Revision 1776).
In a query I want to do a selection within a selection mask for the Cal/Month variable (0Calmonth InfoObject).
The values for months are appearing in correct order for example for the years from 2009 - 2011.
But for the last three month values the year description appears always wrong.
It shows always the year for the next years.
    Its like this:
    Jun 2009
    Jul 2009
    Aug 2009
    Sep 2009
    Oct 2010
    Nov 2010
    Dec 2010
    Jun 2010
    Jul 2010
    Aug 2010
    Sep 2010
    Oct 2011
    Nov 2011
    Dec 2011
    Jun 2011
    Jul 2011
    Aug 2011
    Sep 2011
    Oct 2012
    Nov 2012
    Dec 2012
    Is this a bug?
The values are appearing correct in query results after selecting for example Dec 2012 and executing the query (Dec 2011 appears correct in query results).
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks! I checked it, but the appearance of months and order is okay in T247.
    Any other ideas?
I thought I read somewhere that this is a bug but can´t remember where I found that bug hint.

  • SharePoint 2007 performance issue after upgrading the operating system

We upgraded the operating system of our SharePoint Server 2007 from 2003 to 2008 R2. After upgrade we rebuilt the SharePoint using content DBs we backed up before upgrade. All settings is same except that we moved the DBs to new SQL servers. Now users are
reporting performance issue with sites. I experienced it myself some of the pages takes 9-30 seconds to load. Also our SharePoint server is single server. I monitored the SharePoint Server and it is fine. I did fiddler trace and here are the result. I see
lots of 401 (login failed) errors then 302 (redirect) then 200 (OK). Do you know why we are getting 401 errors?

    Hi
when you request a  Site collection (http://domain/) or a Site (http://domain/foo/) of your Publishing Site you get redirected to the http://domain/Pages/<WelcomePage>.aspx. SharePoint 2007 uses the 302 header (location temporarily moved) for
this purpose. Surprisingly even WSS uses the 302 header to redirect a root url to the default.aspx. In comparison ASP.NET uses an internal redirect to render the default page when the root url requested: there is no redirect in this situation.
Check the link which can give more input
    http://blog.mastykarz.nl/sharepoint-2007-redirect-solved-using-301-instead-of-302-redirects/
for error 401 you can check this link
    http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/97027-no-resources-401-unauthorized/d
and check SharePoint ULS logs and event viewer for any exceptions.

  • Poor performance of BEx Analyzer in excel 2007

    Hi all,
after upgrading my office to version 2007, BEx Analyzer runs very slowly. The query is executed fast at the server but the excel visualisation of data in the workbook takes a lot of time. There is no problem on other computers with office 2003.
I have gone through all the notes but couldn't find anu solution.
Do I have to disable something in excel?
The performance doesn't have anything to do with my system spec (IBM T61 with 3 gig of RAM).
    Thanks for any help.
    Jan

We are getting similar issues excel 2007 takes ages to visualise the results of the bw query compared to excel 2003.
It is particularly an issue on very large excel files 10MB+.
I dont think many business have gone for this combination so far, the response I have from SAP is that it is a microsoft issue.
No resolution so far other than to put users back to office 2003.

  • Performance of BEx Analyzer workbook

Hi gurus, I'm asking you a simple question.
Actually I'm working to improve the performance of a workbook that contains 39 queries and 18 sheets.
The problem is that the time to execute the whole workbook is much more than the time to execute every single query.
So my question is simple: there are issue to check from a Bex point of view to improve the performance? For example, the number of sheets have impact on the performance? The presence of images have impact? Or maybe the number of total cells (used by the queries and not used by the queries) used inside the workbook?
    Thank you for your replies.

    Hi Gabriele,
    Few thoughts: -
    1) Change the query read mode based on your query design and data access. You can do this by using transaction RSRT.
    2) Don't include two much of the characteristic in the rows section in the query. If you want a drill down for 10 characteristic, then include those characteristic in the query (in rows) that receives all the data sets. In the workbook include all the drill-downs that are desired and save the workbook. This will faster compared to including all the characteristic in the query itself.
Few other things to look at: -
    1) If you just want to display a characteristic value then use "display attribute" rather than a navigational attribute.
2)If possible try to avoid the use of virtual characteristics and key figures in the reports.
    3) Try to avoid complex structures in the reports.
    4) If you are having major performance issues with BEx reporting then switch to Web reporting. Web reporting is much faster compared to excel based Bex reporting. But keep in mind that if your users are having certain excel macros then it is not going to be easy.

  • BEx Analyzer versus BEx Web Analyzer and BIA performance

    Hi Experts,
Recently I tested the performance of a few of our queries running off Infocubes with indexes loaded to the BIA and I noticed some differences in performance when using BEx Web Analyzer versus BEx Analyzer in Excel.  Seems that when using the Web Analyzer the query returned the result at a much faster rate than when using BEx Analyzer in Excel.  I did notice that the slow point in Excel is at the "Formatting Results Areas" stage.  This can take up a long time to complete.  My question is, does anyone else experience this?  What could be the cause?  Is this normal behaviour?  Any recommendation to solve this?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi David,
Yes, Excel-based BEx Analyzer is almost always slower then Web (and especially on 3.x tools), and it has not much to BIA.
For web - formatting is happening on  the BI server and then result is transferred to end-user machine in one shot (or as many shots as individual MIMEs to transfer). For Excel - first you have a transfer of data set to your PC (that might require several round-trips) and then formatting is all on the PC.
    Possible ways to improve:
    1) Check that your anti-virus does not impact opening excel workbook
    2) Upgrade PC hardware (absolutely seriously)
    3) Switch off formatting of workbook or at least remove exceptions and total/subtotal lines.

  • Performance Issue Executing a BEx Query in Crystal Report E 4.0

    Dear Forum
I'm working for a customer with big performance issue Executing a BEx Query in Crystal via transient universe.
When query is executed directly against BW via RSRT query returns results in under 2 seconds.
When executed in crystal, without the use of subreports multiple executions (calls to BICS_GET_RESULTS) are seen. Runtimes are as long as 60 seconds.
The Bex query is based on a multiprovider without ODS.
The RFC trace shows BICS connection problems, CS as BICS_PROV_GET_INITIAL_STATE takes a lot of time.
I checked the note 1399816 - Task name - prefix - RSDRP_EXECUTE_AT_QUERY_DISP, and itu2019s not applicable because the customer has the BI 7.01 SP 8 and it has already

    Hi,
It would be great if you would quote the ADAPT and tell the audience when it is targetted for a fix.
Generally speaking, CR for Enteprise  isn't as performant as WebI,  because uptake was rather slow .. so i'm of the opinion that there is improvements to be gained.   So please work with Support via OSS.
My onlt recommendations can be :
    - Patch up to P2.12 in bi 4.0
    -  Define more default values on the Bex query variables.
    - Implement this note in the BW 1593802    Performance optimization when loading query views

  • Issue with status of data information in Bex analyzer report

    Hi BI gurus,
One of the queries showing older date for the "status of data" information in the report of Bex Analyzer. I have tried to correct it in Bex analyzer by removing existing Text information element and adding a new Text element in the Bex Analyzer designer for the query. But it doesn't worked out as the changes made to the query through Bex Analyzer are only being saved as a local work book rather than reflecting to the query. Please suggest me with some options to resolve this issue and give any Idea to correct the "Status of data" in the Bex Query designer.

    Hi Aditya
This is a common problem faced by users when reporting on Multi-Provider.
In my project what I did to overcome this is to run a Fake DTP to the cube whose status is creating problem.
Like , if under MultiPro I have a planning cube which is only updated monthly but all the actual cubes updated daily.  In this case create a DTP under Plan cube with some impossible selection condition ( like fiscal year 2099). This will bring 0 records to planning cube ( and thereby not impacting the data) but will update the last loading time.

  • Query Performance Issue based on the same Multiprovider

    Hi All,
I am facing a performance issue with one of the BEx Query 1 based on a particular Multiprovider.
I have done all the kind of testing and came o a conclusion that the OLAP: Data Transfer time for the query is the max at around 820 Secs.
The surprising part is another Query 2 based on the same multiprovider runs absolutely fine without any hassles with OLAP : Data Transfer time with merely 3 Sec.
Another, surprise is that Query 2 has even more Restricted Key Figures and Calculated Key Figures but it runs smoothly.
Both the queries use cache memory.
Please suggest a solution to this.
    Thanks.

    Hi Rupesh,
There is no much difference between the 2 queries.
Query 1 - which has performance issue has the same filters as that of Query 2 - which is working fine.
The only difference is that the selection of Fiscal Week is in the Default Values Pane for Query 2 whereas its in Characteristics Restrictions in Query 1. I doubt whether this setting will have any effect on the performance.
Both restriction i.e Fiscal Week restriction is based on Customer exit and the rows include Hierarchy for both the queries.
I assume creating aggregates on hierarchy for the Cube can be a solution.

  • When using BW Bex query analyzer users cannot change reporting queries ....

Issue: When using BW Bex query analyzer users cannot change reporting queries. Any attempt to change queries results in errors.
Error: BEx Query Designer: Run-time error '-2147221499 (80040005) Fatal Error - Terminating
Impact: Business reporting is currently being negatively impacted because users cannot modify queries, cannot change filters for fiscal period and fiscal year.
OS / MS Office Suite being used: Vista & Office 2007
    Backend System: BW 2.0B
Frontend System: Being a large organization, we have a controlled environment wherein all users will have the following applications installed by default:
    1. SAP Client Base 7.10
    2. SAP BW 3.5 Patch 4
    3. SAP BI 7.10 Patch 900
    4. SAP GUI 7.10 Patch 12
Does anyone has any idea as to why we are getting this error? Is it a Vista issue? Is it a front-end issue?

Just a thought - did you guys apply any Microsoft security patches before this started happening - we had a similar issue in other SAP application due to MS security update. Raise an OSS with SAP
