BFILE process and export

Hi,
I want to read an image from the file server
convert the image using process or processCopy
then save back to file server using export.
I can only do this if I import image to database item
1. Lock image for update to get locator
2. image.importfrom
3. image.process
4. image.Export
Can this be done using only procedural temporary image variables?

It should work in principal, but I have never tried it.
I would thing you would need to create a temporary BLOB to store the image:
DBMS_LOB.CreateTemporary(imgobj.source.localdata, TRUE);
Set up the file information And then do an import.

Slow processing and exporting

We have been using Aperture 2 for about a year and love it. Upgraded to 3.0.3 recently and find the processing and exporting very slow. We are using the iMac 2.16 GHz, 4GB 667 ..... because of the matt screen it is much nicer for photographic editing. The newer iMac's with glossy screens are horrible because there is a density problem being darker at the top then at the bottom. Also a warm cast at the top and a cold cast at the bottom. This means we don't want to upgrade to the new models with more ram.
Any advice?

There are something that you can do to optimise the performance of Aperture whilst you are editing and exporting.
Easy ones
1. Turn off faces (when not in use)
2. Turn off create previews (when not in use)
3. Do exports overnight when nothing else is running
4. Run regular system maintenance, DIsk Utility
5. Run regular Aperture first Aid, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
6. Ensure harddrives are no more than 80/90% of capacity
Invest in
7. Have your images and library on dedicated fast drives, connected via a fast interface, (USB2 is not a fast interface).
8. Max the RAM out on your machine
9. If in business, a new machine every three years.
900 images even at 1 min per image, 15 hrs, depending on how many adjustments, what file type you are working from, what file type, size and compression you are exporting to, lots of variables.
I agree though 40hrs something needs improving in your system.

Is it possible to replace masters with versions without going through the process of exporting and importing?

Is it possible to overwrite the master files with the versions without having to go through the entire process of exporting and importing back the images?

A small refinement if you shoot RAW. Remember, no RAW file can ever be edited or rewritten. Thus, in the old days, the flow was:
RAW>TIFF/PSD and you ended up with two large files. (This is why some folks used to delete the RAW Masters.)
With Aperture the flow is something like:
RAW+Version(s) Only the Version is only 30 KB. (There is, of course, additional overhead of Thumbs and Previews, but, depending on your settings, this is only a fraction of the size of a TIFF or PSD.)
You question goes right to the heart of the concept of a non-destructive workflow. With Aperture you always preserve your original Master file; the only things that are ever at risk are your edits (called Adjustments). Ironically, this is even more valuable if you shoot JPEG or TIFF as those files could be rewritten.)
Aperture goes to great lengths to give you the best of both worlds; you always have the Master to revert to and your "edits" take up very little disk space. And you don't have to waste time trying to sync folders of RAW, TIFF, and JPEG. Similarly, you never have to worry about resizing images, changing color spaces, or any number of other things that get locked into an image file when you use a destructive workflow.
Remember, Aperture will happily Export files in any format you may need. Export 'em, use 'em, delete 'em - your Masters are still safe in Aperture.

But when I try exporting the movie again it creates the ICMMultiPassStorage file again. I have made sure my scratch disks are set to my external hard drive so I know that isn't the issue. How do I fix this problem so these temporary files are not being stored on my internal hard drive instead of my external?Thanks!

Try exporting the timeline "using current settings" via Make QuickTime Movie, then submit that clip to Compressor for the transcode. This should be faster and less painful.

You can deactivate the business process itself if you do not want at all. So that the header will not available for the entity.

To fix this issue, we can add additional files to the filegroup by add a new file to the PRIMARY filegroup on Files page, or setting Autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup to increase the necessary space.

Can the screen be cropped to and exported at a custom aspect ratio?

I think I'm needing Premier to do something it's just not designed to do. What I need to do is to take five or six different screen and audio captures of the same event (a 3D virtual reality instructional session), each representing a different person's view of that event, assemble those in a split screen, synchronize them to the designated "main" capture's audio, delete the other audio tracks, and add CG title labeling each one. The effect is like looking at a display showing six security camera images. From what I can determine, it is possible to do those things in Premier.
However, what I then need to do is to crop out any extra space to the left and right of that split-screen image and export the file as a .mov with the aspect ratio produced by the cropping so that the videos are as large as possible and are not distorted from resizing them to fit the standard aspect ratio. Depending on the size of the screencaps, the resulting .mov might have nearly a 1:1 ratio. What is critical for this is that the video be as large as possible and the "black" space be as small as possible so that the person who comes in later to analyze these composite videos can see everything as clearly as possible. I also need to crop on the fly; because these images aren't always captured at the same size, it is impossible to preset a size for the resulting video.
We've been using a screen capture tool to do this that works but is a pain; clips can only be moved and resized by mouse-drags, and the software has to import to and export from its own proprietary format, which is very slow. However, ever piece of "real" video editing software I've looked at only seems to export in TV or film aspect ratios. Quicktime Pro looked for a bit like the best bet, but it doesn't seem to be able to handle multiple audio tracks (which are necessary since I have to synchronize tracks by ear much of the time).
Is what I'm describing--exporting .mov files while preserving custom aspect ratios that are created by cropping during editing--something Premier can do? If so, would it be something fairly easy for complete novices to do?

Thanks, but we cannot change the screen recording process. According to the study's protocols, the virtual world has to be full-screen or almost nearly so during the session, and that full screen has to be captured for analysis. Resizing the screen captures is not a problem (especially since I already said I'm doing that), but if you're saying that Premier can only play back up to six screen captures simultaneously if they're captured at 1/4 screen, then that's a deal-breaker right there.
By the way, here's approximately what each of the completed composite videos looks like:

Each screencaptures is resized to the largest consistent size that will fit into this format, and then the resulting video is cropped to the outside border. If there are only five screencaptures, I simply center the single one on the bottom on the "center line."

We probably have more than 60 of these .mov files, each around 45 minutes long, with five or six synchronized screen captures in each. Frame rate etc. has not been any issue with these, and neither has playback of the .mov file from HD or DVD.

How to enable Validate and Export in FDM task

Hi everyone
I am working with setting up an FDM Task to Import, Validate and Export data to HFM.
The Task is able to import data to FDM, but I cannot make the process start the Validate and Export functions. If I do the process manually, then data is imported to HFM succesfully.
Am I missing something in the scripts or do I need to enable some feature in FDM?

The variable lngProcessLevel should be set to "12" to execute the full Import, Validate and Export.

How do you improve the speed of processing and printing of PDF from CAD in indesign?

I work for an engineering consultancy company and for a long while I have suffered with using PDFs files generated from AutoCAD when placed within an InDesign report. There are three issues that arise:
The files take a long time to process when preparing the InDesign report. (This is mainly in high quality preview mode)
The files take a long time to export to PDF
(The most annoying one) The files take a long time to process and print when sent from the PDF to the colour laser printer. So much so, a single page from InDesign that contains a PDF generated from CAD can take up to 15 mins to print.
I have tried converting the PDFs to jpegs prior to insertion into the InDesign document, but the quality and colour is dramatically reduced thus them useless. Is there any pre processing on the PDFs generated from CAD that I can do to reduce the impact that it has within InDesign and in the post processing?
We also get missing font warnings that arise from the inserted PDFs from CAD that may or may not be an issue. Your advice here would also be appreciated.
I would be the first to admit that I am not the most advanced user of InDesign though I am sure that my workflow could be improved to alleviate the situation.

I have tried both options you have recommended, but unfortunately the file size doesn't seem to be the issue. Most of our CAD files (except for when they contain raster backgrounds) are around 0.5-2Mb which isn't massive compared to some jpegs. The PDF optimization process does make a small difference to the file size but only in the region of perhaps 5% reduction.
If it helps the most awkward file I am using at the moment has this audit result, pre-optimization. This is typical of the CAD files produced by AutoCAD. As you can see the content streams take up the highest percentage that doesn't reduce that much even when the optimizer has all options engaged.
What do you think?

Save As and Export in single action?

Is it possible to save an .ai file as a PDF and export it to a .dwg file in one step? Kind of like batch processing in PS?

Indesign CS3 text frame parameters and export PDF

could use some help with the following:
I need to edit and export a large number (7000) Indesign documents (one page)
1. check for locked text frames and unlock
2. group all text frames
3. set grouped text frames at x=8 millimeters, y 10 milimeters
4. export the documents to PDF in a subfolder called "Out"
5. save and close the documents in the same subfolder as an Indesign CS3 document (orig is CS2)

You're asking for the name of the application, not the document -- you need to do it after your "tell myDoc".
