BFILE type question.

hello, I have developed a database for document management in XE, the table where it stores the data in documents generated contains a type field BFILE, but as the maximum capacity of this type is the 4GB of data (which is the limit undesirable the XE), I have decided to eliminate it and to define a new field type VARCHAR2 to store the absolute path of the generated files, my question is:
Is there any disadvantage that affects the performance of my application for not using the field BFILE to point to files generated?
Note: I can not use a version of Oracle DATABASE Standard time because my clients are unable to acquire licenses
Roberto.

Hi,
With BFILE the size of the file pointed to can be max. 4GB but this limit is not related to the 4GB total limit of XE for user data stored in Oracle's datafiles. Each BFILE will consume only the space needed to store the pointer.
So I would suggest to use BFILE instead of varchar2 so that you can use the DBMS_LOB package.
Kind regards,
Serge

  • OLM || Issue with Image-type questions

    Hi
    This is with reference to an issue regarding the import of " Image-map " types questions in OLM.
    The legacy system which the client uses allows creation and assignment of 'Image-map" types questions to the learners.
    As far as my limited understanding goes, these types of questions are not supported in OLM.
    How to handle such types of questions in OLM , any pointers ??
    Also , what exactly are QTI standards and how to convert the existing question banks to QTI standards and then import them to OLM ??
    Thanks in advance for your time..
    Cheers

    There is one method to support these types of questions by using HTML code in the question text, but it is definitely a workaround.
    1. Use an HTML editor like Dreamweaver to create the image map or other type of interactive question. Save the html and any related images, javascript etc and upload to a content server. If the user gets the interactive question correct, provide them with some code to enter that will be used later.
    2. Select a question type like fill in the blank
    3. In the question text, use an IFRAME to embed the HTML page that contains the interactive question
    4. The correct response for this question will be based on the "code" you provide users in the interactive question if they get it correct. They would then enter this code in the fill in the blank area and get credit for answering correctly.
    Other options include building the assessment using a content authoring tool and offering the assessment as a SCORM or AICC learning object, or integrating with a third party assessment tool such as Questionmark.
    Also,
    Metalink Note ID #295865.1 contains the import/export API tech specification (this was originally written for Oracle iLearning but applies to OLM for the most part as well) and has info on the QTI spec that OLM and iLearning support.

    Sorry for not giving details.
    I just want to know how the XML for “comprehension” type question looks like with QTI specification.
    My comprehension type question may contain sub question of type like multiple choice question, single choice question, true false, match the following, fill in the blanks etc.

  • Auto-grading (text-answer type questions)

    Hi Adobe
    I am making a form which include a number of questions that test the students.
    I've looked at how to set a numerical value to questions but how about questions such as
    "What does NASA stands for?"
    Is there a way to set a numerical value for a text-answer type questions such as the one above?
    Thank you

    Hi Gen
    Thanks for your quick feedback.
    On a similar note, is there a way to insert an answer key for multiple choice type questions so that a user who puts down an incorrect option cannot proceed without getting the question right?
    For instance, suppose I have a question "1+1=?"
    a) 1 b) 2 c) 0
    A user cannot proceed to the next page without getting the question right. (in this case B).

  • Mac Newbie - System restore/Time machine type question

    Hi There, Macbook newbie here, got my macbook for xmas and I am totally converted.
    I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of how to set up a 'system restore' type of thing similiar to the windows system restore via time machine.
    Do I need to connect to an external hard drive for this?
    External hard drive question, are there special 'mac' external hard drives or could I just pick anyone up eg seagate/freecom etc?
    Anti virus question: which software would you recommend for Anti virus?
    Appreciate any help and looking forward to making them most of my new mac!

    Hi, and welcome to the forums.
    In addition to the info offered by Jolly Giant, Time Machine is rather different from the system restore feature of Windoze.
    First, a bit of terminology: +Time Machine+ is the software built-in to recent Macs that does backups and restores. It can back up to an internal HD, an external HD, or a +Time Capsule,+ which is a piece of Apple hardware that combines a wireless router and hard drive.
    Technically, this forum is for +Time Capsules;+ there are separate forums in the Leopard and Snow Leopard sections for +Time Machine.+
    Time Machine backs-up +*your entire system+* -- OSX, apps, configuration, users, settings, preferences, data, etc. It also keeps previous versions of things you've changed or deleted (so it needs more space than what's used on your system).
    You can then easily browse the backups and restore selected items, if you've deleted or changed them in error, or they somehow got corrupted.
    Or, if something goes terribly wrong, you can also restore your entire system to the exact state it was in at the time of any backup, even if that's a previous version of OSX. That's the procedure Jolly Giant referred you to in the FAQ Tip.
    You might want to review these:
    Time Machine Tutorial

  • Material type questions and fields on the MRP tabs

    Hi Gurus,
    Can anybody please answer these questiosn for me?
    1) material types determine what views will be created in the materil master right?
    2) for materail types can we have procurement type as F, E or both?
    3) MRP controller and purchasing group fileds on the material master, what are their significance? like which field will take importance in what ccase is my questions?
    Can anybody please help me in answering these
    thanks
    Anmusha

    All the materials which can be produce inhouse that only can have Procurement type E and The materials which can be procured externally always can have F.
    The materials which can be manufactured inhouse as well as procure from external source can have both type procurement
    eg. Raw material will always have F
    Finish goods will have E
    and SEMI finish can have both procurement type
    the reason you can prodice inhouse, procure from outside or you can do sub contracting.
    Yes, the material should have MRP controller to pull in MD07

  • UserDefined Type Question - Nested Table Attribute

    I have a question about some types I'm trying to create and whether or not it's even possible .....
    Here's the background ...
    I have the following type i created :
    create type asset_stat (
    stat_current varchar2(50),
    stat_change_date date,
    stat_change_user varchar2(30)
    All this type does is simply put a user and date/time stamp when constructed. I want to track status changes for historical tracking.
    Then I want to create a nested table type of the above type as follows:
    create type asset_stat_nt as table of asset_stat
    Then, I have another type i've created which will have the nested table type created above as an attribute.
    create type asset (
    asset_name varchar2(30),
    asset_type varchar2(3),
    asset_stat asset_stat_nt
    Now, the constructor for this asset type is defined like this: ( this is where i get lost)
    constructor function asset (
    asset_nm IN varchar2,
    asset_type_cd in varchar2,
    asset_stat_cd in varchar2 ) return self as result is
    begin
    self.asset_nm := asset_nm
    self.asset_type := asset_type_cd ;
    self.asset_stat := asset_stat_nt(asset_stat_cd);
    return;
    end;
    I just created a table of asset type and tried to do an insert and I'm getting an error related to the line where the nested type is being assigned. Is this possible? If so is my syntax completely off? I'm not quite sure how to set values for the nested type because i want to keep all records of change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

    the block of code shows that asset_stat_nt is the type assigned to asset_stat inside the type asset as shown below
    create type asset (
    asset_name varchar2(30),
    asset_type varchar2(3),
    asset_stat asset_stat_nt
    I guess for the following block of code, the line with the arrows should be given like shown below in bold letters
    constructor function asset (
    asset_nm IN varchar2,
    asset_type_cd in varchar2,
    asset_stat_cd in varchar2 ) return self as result is
    begin
    self.asset_nm := asset_nm
    self.asset_type := asset_type_cd ;
    self.asset_stat := asset_stat_nt(asset_stat_cd);return;
    end;
    [b][b]self.asset_stat := asset(asset_stat_nt(asset_stat_cd));
    I am not pretty sure.......try it anyway.....if it works....good to you

  • AVCHD in Premiere Pro CS 5 - exporting file type questions

    Firstly, this is my first post on here, so apologies if I'm breaking any kind of etiquette. Also, I'm not a very technical person and would appreciate any comments or advice to be in layman's terms!
    So, I film and edit weddings as part of a small company. I've recently had my camera and editing system upgraded to a Sony NXcam and Premiere Pro CS5 and I'm having a little trouble getting used to the new file types and settings (previously used miniDV tapes in SD with a Canon XL2 in an older version of Premiere).
    My pc handles the AVCHD footage fine but the way that I edit means that I'll want to export a sequence of edited clips as one long clip, and then re-import it. For example, I'm editing the wedding ceremony from footage from two cameras - I'm going to edit the full version of the ceremony and then I'm also going to edit it down into a version that is a highlights montage in slo-motion to music. The way I do this is once I'm happy with the full version of the ceremony I'll export it and then re-import it so it's one long clip I can play with rather than two sets of footage chopped up on a sequence. So I can alter the speed of this new long clip, and then chop it up and stick in some dissolves to put together the montage. Then I use this montage in the middle of my final film, between the preparations and the reception. The full, edited version of the ceremony is used as an extra on the DVD.
    Previously this was fairly straight forward. I was always working with footage in 16:9 and could export it as an avi file, then re-import that avi file with no problems - presto; the exact same-looking footage as I was previously working with.
    Now I'm editing with avchd mts footage (1920x1080 - 25p - square pixels?). Naturally, if I export it as a 16:9 avi and re-import it, the aspect ratio and frame size is all wrong for the project sequence.
    I just want to know what the best file format and settings are to use to export footage that will match up.  There is no option that I can see to export edited footage as mts files. There is a long list of file types, most of which I don't recognise or know anything about and have never needed to use in the past.
    Sorry if this is a silly question, I've tried searching for "working with AVCHD in premiere pro cs5" in google and not been able to find anything that can help me on there, so I thought I'd try a forum like this.
    Cheers
    Adam

    I think we may have a slight miscommunication.  This is the way that I interpreted your original post.
    Lets say you shot the Smith/Jones wedding this past weekend.  You start a new project and have a Service Sequence and a Reception Sequence.  You finish editing both the service and reception and just a standard full length video.  Now you want to create a montage with clips from both the service and reception.  In this montage you will have different effects like Black and white, Slo Mo, blurs, etc.  So what you do is export the service and reception and then import those two files (or one long one) and then cut that apart and add your music and effects to make your montage.  Is that correct?
    The way that I do it works the exact same way except that you skip the export part.
    When I edit a wedding I generally have 4 sequences when I am finished.  I have a Pre Wedding montage, service, reception, and ending highlights.  The Pre Wedding montage is just made up of shots from before the service (bride and bridesmaids getting ready, shots of the venu, groom and groomsmen and so on).  Then I have a full edit of the service and a full edit of the reception.  After I am finished with those 3 sequences I start working on the ending highlight collage.  I make a new sequence for the collage then I go to my bin and drag the "Service Sequence" up into the preview monitor (I know in my previous post I said double click.  That does not work, because that just opens it up as a sequence.  Sorry about that).  In the preview monitor I scrub through the footage until I find a section that I want in the montage.  Then I set in and out points around that clip and drop it into my Montage timline, and what ever effects to it that I want, then move on to the next clip and do the same thing.  To me it seems that we have the same process except that you have to wait for the export (which is always going to give you a quality loss, how much of a loss depends on format and settings).
    Please let me know if I have misread your process.

  • Network type question

    Spatial,
    I have some data sets I'd like to load into node, link, and path tables, step 1 will be creating the tables. My data seems to describe a logical network (no link distances, no angles between nodes and links) except that many links are directed. What network type best fits this data?
    Thank you.

    Hi Brian,
    Are you storing geometry data? If so, then use a spatial network, if not, use a logical network. In Oracle 10g R1, a directed network requires storage of duplicate links if they are bidirected in a directed network. In Oracle 10g Release 2 a single link can be stored as bidirected in a directed network (however, the same cost applies in both directions).
    I hope I answered the question!

  • Output type question

    Hi Friends,
    I need your help. Currently I need to analyse what are the output types for print output and fax on production. I did that and I noticed that the Output type is NEU for both the mediums, i.e Print output and Fax.
    My questions is if NEU is the o/p type for both, then how do we differentiate that a supplier should be only faxed, or only emailed, or both ?? What setting/ config could it be ?
    Your ideas will be appreciated.
    Many Thanks,
    Max

    @ kalyan Gorla -
    Sorry but this is not what I am looking for. Let me explain once again.
    I have a production system right now in which NEU is being used for both Print and Fax at the same time. i want to know how are these both being used at the same time. for example, I have a purchase order with 2 output types in the message tab. i.e NEU with print and NEU with fax. Now in our project we want to use this NEU but the business requirement is to just send a  print and not fax by using NEU to the suppliuer. So I want to understand how are 2 NEUs being used at the same time.

    I upgraded my new MBP with a 500gb internal drive and thus have the stock 250gb drive sitting idly by. I intend to stream movies to my ATV from my MBP and would like to use the 250gb drive connected externally to house the content.

    no you should not notice any difference at all.

  • PL/SQL Report Headings Type question

    Hi,
    If I set a report to use a Heading Type of "PL/SQL", is there a way to get the region id of the report from within the PL/SQL function that I provide in the "Function returning colon delimited headings" section?
    #REGION_ID# (available in a report template) doesn't seem to work.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Report region ids are not accessible to developers for use in the App Builder. You have to run the page, see what the generated region id is and then go back and hardcode it whereever you need.
    I understand that this is going to be improved in the next release, the region id is going to be a user-defined attribute.
