  • BI Publisher Performance integrated with OBIEE 11g

Has anyone seen issues around the performance of rendering the BI Publisher frame when it is integrated with an OBIEE dashboard (11g)?
If I create a simple BI Publisher off a simple data model (Select 1 from dual). I open the BIP report within the BI Publisher environment (XmlpServer) and it opens in seconds.
When I open this same report within the OBIEE Web Catalog or place it on a dashboard page I have seen it take upwards of 40-50 seconds to render the frame then the report. The time seems to me more around rendering the frame.
Usually when you initiate your first session you see the longest rendering time, subsequent runs of the report are lower but still higher then the few seconds it takes in the BIP environment.
Has anyone else seen this issue, we opened a ticket with Oracle and it seems they are leaning toward creating a BUG around this. Just wanted to see what others were experiencing and if they identified the source of the issue. Thanks.

    Hi Dustin,
The FMW security model in BI Publisher means it is integrated into OBIEE - I believe it's the default. If you're using authenticating and authorising via weblogic then I can't think of a good reason to use BI Server authentication in publisher, you should be using FMW security.
In answer to your question tThere was no bug raised. The work around for us was using document 1338007.1. In your case that doesn't seem necessary since you're using OVD already.
Edit - should just add that if your OVD authentication is set up in the repository then you need to shift that to the weblogic server security model and remove any authentication logic from the repository. After that the FMW security model for publisher should work.

  • XML Publisher Performance issue

    Hi,
I have XML Publisher 5.6.3 installed. I have a requirement to send invoices for each customer. I created a program to fetch XML data and it completed in 2 seconds to fetch data for 100 customers.
Using this I created RTF templates (had to use sub templates). I have tested the templates using XML Publisher desktop and it completed in 10 seconds for these customers. I did this by loading the XML data.
But when I registered the templates in Oracle apps and submitting the program, it is taking 30 minutes to generate PDF output. Could anyone help why it is taking huge time to run in oracle apps and how to improve performance.
    THanks

We can't go with this approch.
The templates have different layouts depend on Bill type and bill source so we have to use different templates.

  • Matrix report in BI publisher performance

    HI Team,
I have build RTF layout for matrix report, the data generation is completing in very less time.. but the layout swapping the rows as columns taking too long time , If data generation is completing around 5 mins..layout building is completing in 45 mins.. Please let me know any feasable solution.
    Best Regards.

Try to avoid too much of regrouping in layout, have your xml structure in desired format. Also try enabling scalable mode

  • Performance issue - BO Publisher 6.5

    Post Author: fionas
    CA Forum: Publishing
    Hi,
We are using publisher 6.5 to burst customized BO reports to users in PDF format. We have five full client reports which are configured in five different publications. Each publication will send the customized report in PDF format and each publication will send more than 1000 reports at a time. We run all the five publications one by one using publisher (BA). So every time we burst more than 5000 reports using publisher 6.5. The publisher sends the first 600 to 700 reports quickly of each publication. After that the performance of publisher comes down and it takes very long time to send the remaining reports. So we need your advice on this.
Why the publisher performance comes down after sending some number of reports? How to improve the performance of the publisher? (As a work around we split each report into two, so that each report will send approx 500 reports and we run the publisher ten times (5 X 2) instead of running it only for five times. This requires extra effort)
    BO Server Configuration
Operating System         : Windows 2003 standard edition SP1

    Hi,
How is the database server operating system coping in terms of CPU load and memory? and what is the db data cache hit ratio in ST04?
I would look into the following things, network configuration between database and central instance, and the load on the DB server cpu load/memory and possibly the most important the DB2 memory and configuration instead of focusing on the SAP application server in case of high DB times.
Please be aware of the fact that tables in upgrade from 4.6C to ECC increase from about 30000 to 60-70000 and db tuning is the most likely explanation for your problems.

  • Projects publishing takes a lot of time

Hello! I've experienced a very annoying behavior with my Project Server. I have a lot of projects (about 500) and resources (about 300) in 1 PWA at my production environment. Publishing of projects and building resource assignments report takes a LOT of
time. About 10-30 minutes or even doesn't complete.
I've found a very useful article about similar symptoms: http://blogs.technet.com/b/projectserverpfeteamblog/archive/2014/06/30/longpublishtimesreportingpublish.aspx,
but can't comment there, so i ask a question here:
Is it true, that deleting old projects will no affect performance of publishing projects and building reports? How can i speed-up this process without touching disk subsystem? i've already done all possible tasks such as rebuilding index,
adding tempdb files, tuning databases but i can not achieve  desired performance.

Hi! Thank you, Michael, Ben and Paul for your replies! Probably i word my question a bit incorrect..
Yes, i've experienced some SQL troubles, with the  help of great tool PAL (pal.codeplex.com) i discovered that some performance counters exceeds its thresholds, such as: SQLServer:Latches\Total Latch Wait Time, SQLServer:Access Methods\Workfiles
Created, SQLServer:Locks\Lock Requests. And yes, i'm investigating reasons of that behavior (though i don't realize how to fix this except for moving DB's to faster disk). Also i trying to figure out projects details as Michael advised in first reply.
But the main question i want to know, can i effectively speed-up publishing\reporting process by cleaning-up my environment? Just months ago, when only a little projects was started and not much resources were added to PWA, all processes like publishing
performed almost instantly! And now, when i have an opportunity to remove some projects and projects' sites from PWA, can it be helpful for performance? Does anyone tried this?

  • Performance Management: 'Share with Main Appraiser' button not visible

    Hi Gurus,
I am using Oracle R12.1.3, Performance Management module.
I am trying to publish Performance Management Plan with Objective setting and Appraisals both tasks. Appraisal plan is set to be appraisee initiated, standard appraisal
However - When the appraisee is trying to initiate the appraisal (by clicking 'Update' on the appraisal task appeared) - s/he sees all the objectives set and get to choose a performance rating. However - the button 'Share with Main Appraiser' button is not visible.
When I am trying to create a Performance Management Plan with only 'Appraisals' - this problem is not occurring. Any clue as to how to rectify this problem?
PS - I have tried disabling personalizations and re-tried several times - but the same error occurs.
Would really appreciate any response which might help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rahul

I'm thankful for your effort Hussein. However, this document is applicable for version 12.1.4+ while I am working on 12.1.3. I re-tested the thing after making some changes in appraisal template where I ticked 'Update Appraisals for Terminated Workers' and also checking 2 more related check-boxes. Surprisingly it worked.
Also if I am selecting method for objective allocation as 'Parallel' - then also this error is not occurring - even with old appraisal template. Although this hit and trial worked, I do not have a logical view about the solution and correctness in all environments yet.

  • Results and a Procedure for SSD Upgrade on T410s

After finding that my T410s 1.8" hard drive was 35% - 60% slower than the variety of 2.5" SATA Hard Drives in my older Thinkpads, I selected a Kingston SSDNow V+180 128GB for $219 for the SSD upgrade from Amazon because this Kingston model had the best price for published performance.
If anyone else is thinking of this upgrade, here are the results using CrystalDiskMark to measure Read and Write speeds. (The Kingston has much better Write speeds than the Intel SSD used in some T410s models.)
    System:  T410s with 1.8" Toshiba 250G drive > upgraded to Kingston SSDNow V+180 128GB
                                                        HDD             SSD               Improvement
    Sequential Read 1000MB           47 MB/s        190 MB/s       304%
    Sequential Write 1000MB           46                 150                 226%
    Random Read       512KB           21                 174                 728%
    Random Write       512KB           22                 149                 577%
    Random Read           4KB          0.30               14.0              4566%
    Random Write           4KB          0.68               16.0              2253%
    Upgrade Procedure
To complete the upgrade, I restored a Windows 7 Disk Image from the HDD to the SSD.  Partition Alignment and TRIM were both correct after the transfer to the SSD.  The Windows 7 image was on a USB drive where I maintain a Fresh Install image that has my full setup.
Notes:  To restore a Windows 7 image from a larger drive to a smaller drive, you must create the disk image after shrinking drive C:\  to a size that permits it to fit on the new smaller drive . . so your larger source drive MUST HAVE unallocated space before creating the Windows 7 Disk Image.  When shrinking drive C:\ on your source drive, shrink it enough so it will easily fit with room to spare on new smaller drive, otherwise Windows 7 image restore will not work.   You can expand drive C:\ to fill the entire new SSD drive after restoring the image to the SSD. (more notes about the source drive below)
    - The Disk Imaging mentioned in this post is built into Windows 7 - Acronis is great but not needed for this SSD upgrade.
    - Shrinking and Expanding drive C:\ is done in Windows 7 Disk Management
    - Your larger source drive must be configured to have Unallocated Space before creating the disk image.  Its the total size of all partitions on your source drive that matters, even if you don't select extra partions to be in the image. Creating Unallocated Space on the source drive is the only thing that works for using Disk Imaging to move from a larger drive to a smaller drive.
Important:   Check out post installation Tweaks when using an SSD at this link.
    http://www.overclock.net/t/1133897/windows-7-ssd-tweaking-guide
especially disable  Hybernation and scheduled Defragmentation.  Scheduled Defragementation may be set by default on all Windows 7 installations.
    Other Results
Windows 7 boots to the login screen in 16 seconds now compared to 28 seconds before.
The T410s with the Toshiba HDD was a real drag compared to my older T500 and T61 with stock 5400rmp Hard Drives.
The T410s with the Kingston SSD is now my quickest system.
The measured results I get from the Kingston are a little slower than the results published in an independent review of this drive using the same free CrystalDiskMark utility.  I know my Partition Alignment is good, so maybe the different results are caused by some difference in the computers.  To make sure the disk image transfer wasn't causing a performance hit, I also performed a from-scratch install of Windows 7 directly on the SSD. The performance tests results were the same with either method getting Win7 on the SSD.
The 1.8" Toshiba Hard Drive that came with the T410s was painfully slow, I am a little surprised Lenovo would put this drive in one of their business class systems.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for posting this.  It was very helpful in my decision to move from the Toshiba 250G drive to the 256G Kingston.  The performance of the drive is awesome.  I thought I would share a few items on how I went through the upgrade.
I used the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery and performed a full BASE backup.  It took about 12-14 hours to backup around 220 GB.
I then replaced the old drive with the new drive.
After replacing, I used the two recovery DVDs to restore to factory settings.
After back to factory, I went through all the basic setup so I could use the OS.
I then downloaded the critical update for Recuse and Recovery.
After that I ran rescue and recovery with the option to replace everything.
The restore of the data took 3-6 hours (didn't sit around to watch the whole thing).
Everything was restored perfectly.  No issues at all.
I had read that you could boot off of the external backup on USB, but I couldn't validate that myself.  Lenovo tech support also said it couldn't be done.  I had reviewed my plan with Lenovo support a few times to be sure I was doing things right.  The knowledge level on R&R is pretty inconsistent.
Also, a note that my original drive was encrypted with PGP Whole Disk Encryption.  When R&R backs up the data it's no longer encrypted and I didn't have a password on the backup.  I turned off disk defrag after the restore.  I confirmed Windows 7 was set to use TRIM.
I highly recommend the drive.  The 256GB wasn't cheap, but I needed that amount of space.  The performance like I said, is excellent.
    Good post, swbca.  Thanks!

  • Objective Setting processes help

    Hi
When an employee forgets to complete his objective setting process ,then how he can re start the setting process !
What i thought was we can check the allow outside these dates while setting up objective setting process. But what happens for all the employees who has set their objectives already !
How we can set a dead line if allow the dates are allowed outside the period !!
How can we restric these activity only for the employees who hasn't initiated their process !
If we publish again this template ,then it would be notified to teh employees who has completed thier objective setting process !
what could be the best way to attain this scenario !! Can we allow objective Setting process out side the period dates ? If we do so how we can restrict the objective setting process to a perticular date !!!
If we republish the objective again which would allow the employees who has already completed the objectives. But anyway it would go for the approval to the manager !! cause it would be burdenfull activity for the manager to check and approve !! Is there a way to restrict this !! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated !!!

This is an area that causes a lot of problems!
To allow people to set objectives when they have missed the deadline, you have to extend the objective setting period. But, you can only do this if the appraisal task period is not open. So if you had objective setting 01/01/09 - 28/02/09, then appraisals 01/03/09 - 31/03/09, you could only reset the objective setting period to after 31/03/09.
I would have thought that resetting the score cards would reopen the objective setting tasks for all, but the other rules about what stage the objective setting is at would also apply. For example, if the employee had set the objectives and transferred them to the manager then that is the status still after the period is reopened.
However, there was a well documented bug about this. Rather than regurgitate the details here, take a look at MetaLink article *564305.1* entitled Modify Published Performance Management Plans and Extend the Objective Setting Deadline. It explains about a problem with the mass appraisal generation program which caused objectives to be lost!
Hope that helps, but you'll find that there are so many variables involved in this process that there can be many different answers to the question.
    Good luck!
    Regards
    Tim

  • Bad Flash 8?

My Post should not be understood as critic. Because I think I
can imagine, how difficult it must be to develop a software such as
    Flash.
My Post should rather be understood as suggestion to make
things better. And as a developer working since many years with the
program I think I know best, what makes my life easier or more
    difficult.
So, sometimes I would like to post some issues hoping, that
someone from Adobe picks up the idea or in the hope, that other
developers agree with me, so I must not feel, I am the only one,
    getting angry sometimes.
I feel, changes should improve the program, but also should
improve the conditions for the people, they must work with the
program. If changes have no sense, just leave it as it is.
    For example:
The Help file has been changed.
BEFORE it was very convenient, to drag a Library item from
one Flash file to the other open Library. You could have 2 Library
windows open at the same time, placed side by side, so you could
see, if one contains the item and the other not - if not - just
    drag it.
NOW – this is not possible anymore. Why? – sense?
BEFORE – I like to have the Help file open while
working, but only in small width size at the right side of the
screen. If I read example code, the code was easy to read, even the
    Help window was minimized.
NOW – code is placed in a Text field with as scrollbar.
It is more difficult to read and to copy as before - sense? And by
the way, what sense makes it, to highlight the search word in
yellow 20 times within the text?
    THE ACTIONSCRIPT WINDOW
    FIND or FIND and REPLACE
Imagine, you have a code of 10000 lines in it and you want to
search for one particular word. You open FIND. When it has found
the word you must close the search display if you want to change
and open it again, to see, where is the next place of the same
searched word. If the search word is 50 times in the code, you will
have to open and close the search form 50 times. You may say, use
Find and Replace instead, but this is not always wanted, because
you don’t want to change the search word everywhere, only at
same few locations. I fyou don't want to change, you will have to
close the FIND and REPLACE as well. I want to change WHILE the FIND
display is open, so I don't need to close and open it 50 times. A
NEXT and a CLOSE button in FIND would make the life easier. You
just close the form when not longer needed.
    SCROLLBARS
    - this is not a big thing, but when you have a large amount
of code in the window, you don’t want to use the Up or Down
buttons to move to line 1000. You will use the Drag bar. Now, from
line 1000 you want to move to line 1200 – you will use the
Drag bar. But with 10000 lines of code, this Drag bar is very tiny
    – difficult to hit each time you want to move – just a
little bit bigger would be much more convenient.
    Excellent job with few shadows.
    Regards,
    Luciewong

... and, while I was writing, I nearly forgot the big issue
    The PUBLISH performance.
I just hope, that people are working on this item, because it
    is very frustrating.
With large amount of code, it takes ages. But not only the
    time is the problem.
If PUBLISH has finished, other open programs, specific IE
Browser need to be refreshed, otherwise they work and react very,
    very slowly.
I work on 2 machines at the same time. One has 120 GB hard
    drive, the other only 40.
I can only publish on the small computer, publishing is much,
much faster, even it takes several minutes. So why is that and can
    there anything improved?
    regards

  • Sizing of server

How do you properly size the OCMS server?
I have gone through the documentation and have found no guide on how to size the OCMS server?

    Eric,
Sizing is very much dependent on application - our current published performance data is that we support 2500 SIP Messages per second on a Linux dual-core XEON 3.2Ghz (2006 model). And for memory we support a JVM configuration of up to 2.5Gb. To calculate how much memory you can use - calculate with a 100Mb "safety buffer" for the server and a size of 5Kb for the SIPApplicationSession, SIPSession and associated data before the application has added any data itself. Also keep in mind that in a clustered enviroment each node needs room to store replicas in memory.
You will find that most applications are not memory bound, but rather CPU bound in the above configuration.
If you want to discuss a particular application scenario - please contact me directly at [email protected]

  • OK you win, i'll PSU upgrade - but which one ?

After checking the stickies and reading through loads of posts i'm thinking of upgrading my PSU already, it is only one month old but i got it dirt cheap s/h off someone who was upgrading. It would appear that it doesn't match the recommended minimums, although i have to say that my new computer is running very well at the moment. Mine is just a simple family home use computer and will not be used to do any heavy gaming etc , also i don't intend to O/C or anything tricky.
As I've already got an Antec case the brand does appeal , with this in mind PSU's I'm looking at at the mo are TruePower 380, 430, 480,550. Financial constraints are an issue as i don't have a bottomless pit ( having well overspent already on the simple upgrade of my old Compaq). The Antec Truepower 430 being my fave compromise for published performance stats and price ( 5v- 36A, 12v- 20A, 3.3v- 28A).
Any expert advice before i take the plastic out ...(again )

If your computer works fine for now and you dont plan to push it, do you really need to upgrade your PSU?
Otherwise, any Antec or Enermax of 400W+ will do for your system. If you plan to upgrade your computer eventually, the bigger the better.
For example, the new top of the line video cards are now recommanding PSU of 480W minimum...

    •     MSC: PS/SNO Use DB for Integration Data - Should be set to YES if Concurrent Tier and Web Tier are on different machines
    •     MSC: PS/SNO Download XML Files - Should be set to YES if users want to download the xml files to the client machine for debugging purpose. The
    default value is NO
    •     MSC: SNO Publish on Client - Should be set to YES if users want to publish the output xml files of SNO to the client under data_store /plan_id path. Setting this profile to NO helps to improve SNO publish performance. The default value is NO.
    Go to responsibility >>Production Scheduler
Create a Schedule with Appropriate and Launch PS Plan for the Right Instance
Then open the Workbench and select Launch and open from Server option for the PS client to be Installed.
PS gets installed and a PS plan opens.
