BI Sizing for Functional Upgrade

One query for which I could not get any clarification.
We are planning for a functional upgrade of BI 7.0 to new functionalities.
In the quicksizer table (say for cubes), do I need to inlude:
a) All the EXISTING cubes/ ODS, dimensions, chars and KF, OR
b) ONLY the NEW cubes/ ODS , dimensions, chars and KF, OR
c) All EXISTING + NEW Cubes
Though  'a' does not look like ok, but clarity between 'b' and 'c' is important, as there are 90 cubes, and 180 ODS in the system. Counting everything manually is a pain, and very time consuming. There is no report, could not find this in any data table either. Only option left is metadata repository (one by one objects), if needs option 'a' or 'c'.

  • Functional Upgrad from BW 3.x to Netweaver 2004s

    Hi Guys,
i have gone through almost entite forum on sdn but i could not get the information/document for functional upgrad. currently i am using BW 3.5 and going for BI 7.0
could some one tell me the steps to do functional upgrad to BI 7.0. i am not talking abt the technical upgrad here. i would really appriciate if some one could send me some document that gives step to step procedure to do the functional upgrad.
ur help will be rewarded in terms of points.
    manmit

    Hello,
There are multiple resources to review since a functional upgrade requires a value proposition, gap analysis, and in some cases an ROI.
First, all releases below BW 3.5 are currently scheduled to go off maintenance December 2006.  So customers need to be at release BW 3.5 or higher by Jan. 1, 2007.  This helps with the value proposition!
Please check the delta feature list from BW 3.5 to NW 2004s BI on SDN or the Service Marketplace.  As Prakash mentioned, customers should evaluate which features they want to implement and the timeframe.  Many customers will focus on a technical upgrade which is what we recommend initially, and also determine which features could be included in the first go-live.  Other features can be added to subsequent go-lives, but this is based on customer specific go-live timetables.  Some customers have implemented only new functionality while others only chose the most important, i.e. BI accelerator, BEx.
Also, please check the webinar entitled "Upgrading to NW 2004s BI" which covers many of these points and lists the relevant references.
Finally, SAP (and trained partners) will be offering an Upgrade Assessment service beginning of July which will assist customers in planning an upgrade to NW 2004s BI including both technical and functional considerations.  Please contact your SAP account team for more information.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

  • New for ABAP in functional upgrade from 4.6c to ECC6.0

i want to know the enhancements, additions and changes in the technical side/ABAP , when moved from 4.6c to ECC6.0 in case of FUNCTIONAL UPGRADE only....
our compny has done FUNCTIONAL UPGRADE so far..whats new for technical ppl like us apart from changing bdcs, some missing functions, etc...
    thanx,
    Naveen Vishal

    Hi
Technical upgrade is the fast upgrade without additional functionality but with minor user interface changes to ensure business continuity.  In the past, all objects modified by a customer had to be manually re-modified during an upgrade. Now, modifications are either automatically adopted or the system provides you with an assistant for adjusting your modifications to the newly upgraded configuration using transactin SPAU and SPDD.
SPDD:  This transaction allows you to adjust modifications to ABAP Dictionary objects during an upgarde.
Using this transaction we can adjust the Domains, Data Elements, Tables, Strcutures, Transparent tables, pooled and cluster tables including their technical settings, indexs of transparent tables. If you adjust data elements that have been changed with the Modification Assistant in an earlier release, the changes can be copied automatically.
    Steps to run SPDD:
           1.      1)  Start transaction SE03 as user DDIC and choose Administration ® Set system change option
           2.      2)  Select Modifiable in the Global setting dialog box.
           3.      3) Choose Continue.
           4.      4) Choose Edit ® Select all.
           5.      5) Save your changes.
           6.      Then log on as a normal user, since user DDIC may not perform any repairs.
SPAU:  This transaction allows you to adjust programs, function modules, screens, interfaces, documentation and text elements after an upgrade.
After you adjusted or edited an object, you can use User/Status function to modify the status of the object. Before doing this, you can also add other developers or testers that are allowed to edit the object and create a short note.
    Steps to run SPAU:
    1) Start transaction SE03 as user DDIC and choose Tools ® Administration ® Set system change option.
           2.      2)  Select Modifiablein the Global setting dialog box.
           3.      3) Choose Continue.
           4.      4) Choose Edit ® Select all.
           5.      5) Save your entries.
           6.      Then log on as a normal user, since user DDIC may not perform any repairs.
Other important topics in Technical Upgrade:
Updaring the Development System: Perform the adjust int he development system using SPDD and SPAU transctions and assign to transport requests.  The upgrade control program R3up exports the transport that you have marked in a later upgrade phase.
Upgrading the Production System: During this phase, the R3up upgrade control program checks whether there are any change requests registered for transport from the development system to the production system. If this is the case, R3up offers to import the transport automatically, instead of you carrying out adjustments with transactions SPDD/SPAU. If you choose this procedure, you still have the option of stopping SPDD/SPAU to check the changes accepted automatically before they are activated.
If you decide to import a transport automatically, a subsequent analysis checks whether there is an entry in the transport you specified for each modified object found in this SAP System. Only if this is the case is the transport marked as suitable.
If there are more modified objects in the production system than in the test system, they cannot be dealt with by the transport. This means that you have to adjust these objects.
If you had more modified objects in the test system than in the production system and these are also contained in the transport, you import these into the production system with the transport

  • Going live check for SAP upgrade projects

    Hello,
I am interested in "going live check" service and procedures for my upgrade projects. May I find any documentation? Do I have to pay for it?..
Thanking you in advance and a happy new years!
    Kind regards

    Hi Nilufer,
The following Input as follows :
    Source : http://www.thespot4sap.com/upgrade_guide_v2.pdf
This service is included as part of your annual maintenance fee.
The underlying concept of the SAP GoingLive Functional Upgrade Check is
to ensure smooth operation of your mySAP.com solution by taking action
proactively, before severe technical problems occur.
The GoingLive Functional Upgrade Check is made up of three sessions
(Planning, Analysis and Verification)—two sessions (Planning and Analysis)
before the upgrade and the other (Verification) after the upgrade.
Planning Session: This session should be performed as much in advance as
possible when the upgrade is first being considered.
Analyses compatibility for the target release with regards to connected
systems in the Solution Landscape, OS version, DB version, installed Add-
Ons, Plug-ins, Country Versions, and so on.
Analysis Session: It is generally performed two months before the
production upgrade (consider lead time for hardware procurement).
The focus is on resource planning and system configuration.
There is a high-level hardware plausibility check (this is not a hardware
    sizing exercise).
      Potential resource bottlenecks are identified.
Necessary changes will be recommended to prepare the system for the
productive use of the new release.
38 SAP Upgrade Guide | Simplifying Your Upgrade
Verification Session: Generally performed four to six weeks after the
production upgrade, and the recommendation from the analysis session
    implemented.
Comparison of performance with results prior to upgrade
      Recommendations on configuration and optimization

  • Doubts in functional upgradation from 3.x to 7.0.

    Hi All,
I have some doubts in functional upgradation from 3.x to 7.0.
After migration of Transfer rules, update rules ( between the ods & cube also) & datasource.
1). Cube & ods have filed which is added like enhanced field, do we have to do anything after migration for that filed.
2). Is the Z object also will get migrated automatically or not ( i have zfield in the datasource).
3). If i have a routines in the trans rules & update rules, what has to be done for these routines
4). How the custom reports, deliverd reports and workbooks will get migrated.
5). Macros in the web templets ( is the macros coding in the web templets also will get migrated auto matically r do we need to rewrite the coding).
6). Is the migration steps are same for the all SD, MM, FI datasources.

    1. this should not be a problem
    2. IO is not needed to be migrated, it is not changed so much between 3x. and 7.x
    3. routines & update rules in the trans rules are migrated automatically, see

  • MS Project plan for the upgrade of 10.7 SC to 11i

Can some kind person supply me with a MS Project plan for the
upgrade of 10.7SC to 11i. Our applications are GL/AP/FA/Project
Acc. Any other doco would be most helpful.
    Thank you
    [email protected]

We have completed our first upgrade of FA from 10.7 SC to 11i. Most issues arose from the introduction of WorkFlow for Account Generator. In addition we have had difficulty activating the "security by book" new feature. This is still under investigation. We upgraded PO, AP, FA and GL. I can say that more than half of our time has been spent resolving FA issues.
The length of time the task will take will depend on which functionality you use. Have you seen the upgrade kit on metalink? it has all the upgrade steps. From that you could determine how many steps you need to perform.
    Hope this helps.

  • Quick sizing for Demand Planning system

    Hi All
Our team is required to do quick sizing for a SCM 5.0 Demand Planning system with Livecache. The DEV and QAS is already available but not being used at all but now we need the quick sizing for the production box. I have never done any quick sizing, detailed help is appreciated. I have gone through the service.sap.com/quicksizing for demand planning it shows 3 input tables only for Throughput sizing - Time Series, DP Run, DP Users. The APO functional guys entered some numbers but not sure what to do next as the Calculate Result shows information Iam not able to understand.
What I need from sizing is CPU processor, disk size, memory size, etc in clear detail. Please suggest, Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Ali

    Hello Ali,
First of all I am not a BASIS consultant and hence it would not be prudent for me to comment on hardware configuration reuqired in your case.
Secondly I do not understand what you mean by Quicksizer has been shut down. It is available online at <a href="http://service.sap.com/quicksizer">Quicksizer Tool</a> in Service Marketplace.
There is good amount of documentation available in the website giving details on the basis of computation of different parameters. Again SCM Hardware Configuration is not just dependent on the number of users but the functional requirements as well.
Thirdly - I cannot explain how SAPS concept is related to SCM Quicksizing. Per my understanding the SAPS concept is an hardware-independent benchmark of throughput which is an indicator of the processing capabilities required at peak loads. SAPS will determines the number and processor speed on your Application Server depending on the processor capabilities. Most hardware vendors provide datasheets with SAPS capabilities.
Suggest you go through the document "Background: Sizing mySAP Business Suite" under Sizing Guidelines >> General Sizing Procedures.
    Thanks,
    somnath
