Big delay opening first image:  ?

On opening first image, sniffer_gpu runs, takes 30-45 seconds to query the gpu.  Then it terminates, and Photohop goes into "not responding" mode for 30-45 sec.  After the first image, everything works fine.  PS6 extended, I7 cpu, 64-bit, 32 gb ram, boucoup drive space available, nVidia 680M GPU with 4 gig ram.  Card added to the support file, is recognized instantly by Premiere and After Effects,  and everything used to work fine in Photoshop.  This started a couple of weeks ago, without any apparent changes to the system or software.  Ideas please?

Thank you for your reply.  I have the current driver, but that's a good clue, perhaps the (not long ago downloaded) driver is the problem, and I can
try rolling back to the previous version.  Thank you, I think this very well may be the variable, I should have tumbled to it myself!  Best regards!

  • Opening First Image Takes forever

    Hey guys.
Just as the title says, every time i start photoshop CS2 (latest update) (windows xp) the first image always takes a long time to load (e.g. 30 seconds) no matter the image or how long i give photoshop to load first.
Any images after that load basicly instantly.
    Any ideas?

switch your default system printer to something local. anything. just not a network printer.

  • Bridge CS4 has LONG delay in opening the first image

Photoshop CS4 upgrade was my Christmas present this year. I've been fighting this annoying "problem" ever since then...
I DO see this "problem" on my desktop PC, which is a Dell XPS-400 PC (with 2 GB of memory) running Windows XP (Media Center Edition) with SP3 installed. I DO NOT see this "problem" on my laptop, which is a Dell XPS-1530 (4 GB of memory) running Windows Vista SP1. I installed the Photoshop CS4 software exactly the same way on both machines, and I have the preferences set the same in both Photoshop and Bridge (and Camera Raw) on both machines.
Here's the situation: I first open Photoshop CS4 and then click on the Bridge icon in the Application Bar to open Bridge. When I use Bridge to open a photo, by either double-clicking the thumbnail, or right-clicking on the thumbnail and choose "Open" from the context menu, there is a 42 second delay before Photoshop opens the file. This long delay only occurs when opening the very first file.
Once that first image file is opened, double-clicking any thumbnail in Bridge will have it open in Photoshop CS4 in about 2 seconds. There will never be another long delay in having Bridge pass a file to Photoshop (or Camera Raw) again - until I close the applications and restart them. Once I restart the applications, the first photo takes 42 seconds to open....
This delay does not occur in opening the first image file if I right-click on the thumbnail in Bridge CS4 and choose "Open With" and manually choose Photoshop CS4.
Even if that is how I open the first (or several) image file(s), the first time I try to open a file from Bridge by double-clicking on a thumbnail (or right-click on a thumbnail and choose "Open") there will be that annoying 42 second delay before it opens.
It does not matter what the file format the first image file is (JPG, PSD, TIFF, or DNG), or what the file format of any subsequent image file is. As long as I do not close the Bridge and Photoshop applications, any subsequent file will be passed from Bridge to Photoshop in only a couple of seconds.
I have manually set the File Name Extensions in Windows XP, and in the Preferences in Bridge. Both have been set to open the file types listed above with Photoshop CS4.
I have uninstalled CS4, and have used two seperate Registry cleaners (CCleaner and jv16 Power Tools) before re-installing Photoshop CS4. This had no effect on this situation. I've run "chkdsk C: /r" several times, with no problems reported.
I have been searching through these forums for over 2 weeks now, and I have not seen anyone else report such a problem. I use my XP desktop much more than my Vista laptop, so I'd really like to fix this situation, but I don't know what else to try.
    Gregg Mack

    Don,
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I tried them all, but the problem remains exactly as it was. To properly document my efforts:
In Bridge's Preferences, I Purged and Compacted the Bridge Cache, then changed it's location to D:\Bridge_Cache (D:\ is a second physical internal SATA drive).
I can not tell the exact size the Cache is set to, but the slider in Bridge's Preference is very close to the left end (10,000) of the slider.
The Windows Page File is set to 3072 MB min and 4096 max, and it is entirely on the D:\ drive. (I have 2GB of physical RAM in the PC.)
I defragmented the C:\ drive using Diskeeper 2008 Pro Premier, and even ran a Boot Time Defrag.
Rather than set some exclusions for Norton Anti-Virus, I jsut disbled that Virus checking program for all of my experiments.
I deleted the Bridge Preference File by holding down the Ctrl key as Bridge was restarted.
I even deleted the entire contents of the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. I then rebooted the PC - twice. I then re-disabled Norton Anti-Virus.
The PC is approaching 3 years of age, but it is a 3.2 GHz Pentium D machine with 2 GB of RAM and two internal SATA drives. Every other application that I run on this machine responds reponsively. Again it is only the FIRST image file that I have Bridge hand off to Photoshop (or Camera Raw) that takes forever. The second and subsequent image files take a second or two.... That doesn't sound like it's an "old hardware" problem to me.
I'm willing to try anything else that you, or anyone else would like to suggest.
    Thanks

  • Delays on first daily use after opening an application

For the past month or so there's a longish delay the first time I use an application. For example, I have no problem opening Mail and getting messages, but the first time I want to send a message there's exactly a 28 seconds delay before it lets me type anything, and no delay for any further messages (until I close Mail and reopen it, where the delay reappears). There's a 23 seconds delay the first time I send something to be printed, 20 seconds the first time I save a file in Illustrator or Photoshop (both CS4), etc., but again, no delay afterward. It feels like the action is being checked once and then okayed; the length of the delay is always the same for a particular action.
Any idea what could be doing this? I've added a few things lately on my G5: Growl, 1Password, Fiwi, Sneak Peek Pro, Delicious Library, Default Folder X, and Drop Box. I've removed them all and put them back one by one with no change.
It almost feel like a virus of some kind...

    Carolyn,
Thanks for your reply. I have over 20 years experience using a Mac for publishing, and the last time a slowdown similar to this one happened was due to a virus (yeah, rare; I think it had something to do with Quicktime and some automatic action). Hence, my wondering about some benign virus slowing down specific actions.
The HD I work from (different from the HD with the OS) has a capacity of 75G, with only 13G being used. All my HDs (or partitions, 6 of them in total) have between 35G and 90G of free space.
As mentioned before, the slowdowns are very specific, and happen one time only until I close the application and open it again. I can't pinpoint exactly when it started: right after a system update, after installing a shareware...
Has anybody else experienced something similar? I'd like to try different solutions before reinstalling the OS in the hope that it cures the problem.

  • Open second image pastes into first image - CS5

CS5- Each time I try to open an image when I already have an image open, the second image automatically pastes into the first image. Can anyone please tell me how to stop this behavior? If I use File>Open, it works properly but I open images by dragging and dropping into an open Photoshop window.Thanks.
    Larry Berman

Thanks Chris but you're stating the obvious. In all past versions of Photoshop you could drag and drop images into a Photoshop workspace and cycle through them. The concept of dragging into an existing image is letting Photoshop read your mind. This is a feature that should be turned off or on with a check box in file handling, or a simple box allowing you to set the action to a legacy behavior. Or how about a message that appears the first time you do it with a choice, like converting to a color space flattens an image. I would have argued for this if I had still been a beta tester.
It's one thing to add a multitude of new features and another to change the default behavior of older features without giving the long time user an option to use legacy behavior.

  • How to remove the big delays on adobe photoshop cc

I recently moove my photoshop cs6 to cc and I suffered from big delays.
Often struggles and my photoshop manipulations are not taken into account while it struggles. This is very problematic. For example, I often select multiple layers using a Shift + click and then move those layers. When photoshop struggles during the layer selection, the selection is not taken into account and I find myself moving a single layer. How to resolve this slowness? I currently reflected on going back to photoshop cs6.

  • Opening RAW images more than once

I have run into an inconsistency between how Elements works on different computers.  Even when students are using the same version, this is what I have encountered.
I want to create 3 versions of the same RAW file in order to vary the exposure and then use Photomerge Exposure to blend the images.  I can open the first version and then go to Open Recent and open the same RAW file again.  I then reset the default and make a different adjustment and open that image in Elements.  a number "2" is automatically added to the filename.  When I do another Open Recent and process that version, that image opens in Elements with a number "3" added to the filename.
Many students in my class can't do this unless they save the first version with a new filename.
    Why might this occur?
    Mary Lou

I can't say anything about Macs but I presume you would have noticed if the difference was due to the difference of OS...
When you have the 'include in Organizer' unchecked, you do your first edits in the ACR dialog and click 'Open' to get the conversion into the editor. The image title shows the file name of the raw file, but you are working on a psd format file which has not yet been saved to disk. It's only in ram memory with the default filename ready to be used if you click 'save' : that default filename is the same as the original raw name but simply with the .psd extension. You can change the default file name before clicking 'save' or 'save as' or you can accept it. Now, you can either go back to editing or close the raw file and re-open it. There is no difference. After your second edits, if you try 'save' you will be prompted the same default psd file name. But then the file name has already been attributed and you will get a warning message to change the name or overwrite the file.
If you try to use the 'include in Organizer', you'll see the difference : you won't be prompted to overwrite but a new suffix with -1 or -2... will be prompted automatically and the files will be added to a version set, which is the best way to keep the link between the original raw and the various 'versions' of edits.
By the way, that's one of the big advantages of the Organizer when you shoot raw : ability to see thumbnails of your raw files to rate and tag, ability to use all edit features of ACR and clicking 'Done' without creating intermediate psd or jpegs, only small xmp files saved automatically and used by the Organizer to show the files or print them... Plus if you are tagging and rating  your raw files, that information is kept in every version in the version set.
You never worry about the xmp files when moving, deleting or renaming files from the catalog manager -- You never worry about them for backups.

  • PSE does not open any image nor it is possible to open a new file

    Hello,
having installed Photoshop Elements 13 for the first time on my Windows 7 Ultimate (64 Bit) computer it is a big disappointment.
I cannot open any image. It does not matter whether it is on a network share or local disk.
Have no deinstalled the program and reinstalled. But the behaviour does not change at all.
In the organizer I can select an image but when I want to transfer it the editor nothing happens.
It is also not possible to create a new empty image.
    Anybody else having this behaviour?

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 not opening Photoshop Image Processor

I selected one, four, and multiple pictures in Bridge to reduce the file size of jpgs. I went to Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor. Nothing happened. Photoshop did not open. That got me to thinking that sometimes while I am in Photoshop Bridge won't open either. Any ideas on resolving issue of "Bridge not opening Photoshop Image Processor" would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Curt Y, Everything is checked in the "Startup Scripts," including Bridge (twice) and Photoshop (twice). Not sure why duplicate entries but there are.
If you mean that you have two of the same versions (both CS3) in there that indicates there is something wrong with your install
If you have any suggestions regarding being able to access the Image Processor to resize pictures and such without first opening Photoshop, I'd greatly appreciate it. If not, the work around will have to suffice.
My first goal would be to reset the preferences for both PS and Bridge and then try again
see also this KB document, section preferences reset:

And inhere also info on how to retrieve your path for cache to manual delete it.

What on earth is happening? I am on PS CS6. I might point out everything was working normally up to  yesterday, when this first started.
I recently changed computer to 64bit from 32bit, not sure if this causing  the problem or not. Any help would be appreciated.

    Robert,
Would you be so kind to rephrase your question with concise, precise information and without any "let's say that" hypotheticals?  Sorry, I can't quite follow you.
Also please give exact versions of Photoshop CS6 (13.what.what), of Bridge and of your OS.
    Thanks.

  • Replacing images in Flash presentation but slideshow stays on first image

I have used this slideshow for few projects and all I've done in the past is import new images (about 100k) and publish.
The image are bit map of type (png) not big about 100k size.
Without saving the file I do a "test movie".
Instead of doing the slideshow it displays the first image but doesn't loop through the rest.
I'm at a bit at a lost here. The path to the image in bitmap properties on the origanal file in imported is relative but when I select a new image its full path.  This my be a problem, my not.

  • Opening an Image File

Hi! I'm trying to open an image file in an application using JFileChooser. As I open the file, I know that the file has already been selected but I don't know how to put it on the correct container. I'm trying to show the image on the upper box such that it would look like it is currently showing the current image and the lower box would show the filmstrip view of the images in the folder. Basically I have a JFrame and then a JPanel1 on the JFrame. I also have another JPanel2 inside the JPanel1 and it is in the place of JPanel1 that I want to put the image. Anyway, I'm stuck as to what should I use to contain the image on the upper box (JPanel1, currently it doesn't work for a JPanel). I can't see the image I'm trying to open. Any idea or help will be appreciated.

  • Can a script be written to take the next 2 files in a folder and place them on a background image..then saving with the first images filename..?

Hello all, I hope you can help.
In Photoshop I have a problem to overcome and have delved into the world of scripting..
If there is a quick way to produce the following could someone help me with some pointers?
    Here is my situation..
I need to produce a photograph proof card, these are for a double image option so cause me a headache compared to just creating an action..
This proof card really is just a set of two different photographs placed onto a background image.
I would produce two different images of the same person and name them exactly the same except they are suffixed with an A or B to keep them together, these would be in a folder with approx 500 other images for example (250 x two of each person)
My preference for the process would be done in the following sequence:
1/ Open the background file jpg (which is sized at 2400 x 1800 pixels @ 300dpi)
2/ Load the first image from the batch file and place this.
3/ Get the filename of the first image and create it as a text layer and write it below the image at 10 point text size.
4/ Create another copy of this layer and change the font to 3of9barcode font, however the font needs an asterisk before the text then again after it. e.g. *filenameA*
Only the first image has the need for a barcode as they are for the same person. This is at 18 point.
5/ Load the next sequential image from the batch file and place this.
6/ Get the filename for the second image and as Item 3/ create a text layer below at 10 point text size.
7/ Place a png overlay with my copyright information over the images (I need to do this twice, once for each image)
8/ Flatten the images and save the file in a new folder with the same filename as the first image.
I can do this in Lightroom with the exception of putting the barcoded text, and the filenaming, this is because the background image is used as the identity plate and the filename is not based on the data from either photograph..
Can anyone shed some light on where to go from here?
    Kind regards
    Bryan

Photoshop Scripting-wise this seems fairly "easy".
But I would recommend creating a template file (that already combines background image, png overlay and the Type Layers).
Maybe data driven graphics would also be an option …

  • RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

Your question is a little unclear. In a "normal" Lightroom/Photoshop workflow the raw images do not open from Lightroom into Camera Raw. Lightroom has all of the Camera Raw functionality in the develop module. When you choose to open an image in Photoshop, and Lightroom and Photoshop are synchronized (i.e. referencing the same version of Camera Raw) then Camera Raw is simply used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments as the image is transferred to Photoshop. If Camera Raw is an older version then Lightroom offers you the choice to open the image or create a PSD or TIF file that includes all of the Lightroom adjustments. But in either case, opening in Camera Raw is not part of the workflow. It is possible to open the image as a smart object or convert the image to the smart object in Photoshop and then open it in Camera Raw. That is done from within Photoshop or is one of the open options in Lightroom. If you choose to go the smart object route the image first has to be opened in Photoshop and then from there you can open it in Camera Raw.
