Bin subdirectory

hey
i installed J2SDK
and i now have an error occuring
when attempting a command line
on command prompt, i leaves me with the
"javac is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
so i have 2 problems maybe,
one is that i havent installed the package, which i have done so its not this one,
im pretty sure that i installed the program but i didnt place the bin subdirectory in the computer path, how do i do this,
exact instructions or guidelines if possible please
thnx
mystic

blame sun, they should make it evident that it's absolutely necessary to read the instructions, people are rightfully used to that it should be enough to just click through the installer

  • ISW Installation problem on Solaris SPARC

We are currently running JES4 directory server version 5.2 patch 5.
We wanted to test a JES5 installation so we could install Identity
Synchronization for Windows (ISW) and see if it would resolve the
problem we have keeping our Directory Server (JES4) and Active
    Directory (AD) servers synchronized.
We did a clean install of JES5 with Directory Server 6.2. Prior to the
installation of ISW, we migrated the data from our production JES4
system and loaded that data into the newly installed and configured
JES5 system. That all went fine.
Then we then tried installing ISW, but the installation failed during the
portion of the install process where the administration server is
    installed.
Has anyone seen this problem, or can you tell us any gotchas?

The Solaris*.bin file should have unpacked everything and installed all the JDK in a directory off of the directory where you ran the .bin file. Inside this subdirectory will be a bin subdirectory where the java executables, etc are installed.

  • How do I set the PATH to use ImageMagick under PHP on my Server?

    Hi,
I have the ImageMagick binaries installed. They are working in the terminal.
But when I try to use it out of a php script on the webserver, it cant find the DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH.
    The manual says:
Set the MAGICK_HOME environment variable to the path where you extracted the ImageMagick files. For example:
    export MAGICK_HOME="$HOME/ImageMagick-6.3.7"
If the bin subdirectory of the extracted package is not already in your executable search path, add it to your PATH environment variable. For example:
    export PATH="$MAGICK_HOME/bin:$PATH"
    Set the DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable:
    export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH="$MAGICK_HOME/lib"
I can do all this in the Terminal, but how and where do I set it, that it also works with the scripts on the webserver?
    Thanks and Regards,
    JO

    Joachim,
I have not tested any of this but...
If you are just using the default Mac OS X Server install of Apache and the PHP module, then Apache's path is /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin (when running under the user:group=www:www). Basically, if the server is running under that user and PHP inherits the basic PATH of that user's shell, then anything linked into those directories should be available to the scripts, i.e. link your ImagMagick bin and lib paths into /usr 's directories. See 'man ln' in Terminal. User www doesn't have a defined shell, though, so I don't know where the PATH comes from.
Alternatively, you might be able to use Apache's env_module (on by default) to manipulate the PATH environment variable in a config file. See Apache's manual on environment variables.
Another means is to utilize 'suexec' in Apache and switch the user:group of CGI execution, etc. to a actual user with a definable .bash_profile (or whatever shell you are using). There are security concerns with this. See Apache's manual on suexec. You may want to also consider compiling PHP as CGI.
BTW: the new version of PHP has some new experimental native ImageMagick libraries built in. I assume it looks for the binaries in the usual places and/or may need to be compiled with their paths during ./configure.

  • My X11 programs won't launch

I have two applications that run under X11: Xephem and Open Office.
About the time I upgraded to OS 10.5.4 I noticed that they wouldn't start. Today I looked at the discussion groups here and upgraded to X11 2.3.1. They still won't launch. Before they would just hang up without giving any error messages, but now when I try to start Xephem I get:
sh: line 0: cd: /usr/local/xephem: No such file or directory
sh: ../bin/xephem: No such file or directory
It sounds like X11 just needs to be pointed to the proper directory, but I don't know how to do that. I never did get the hang of working with the command line.
As for OpenOffice, I get this:
    The application soffice.bin quit unexpectedly.
I don't know what to do about that.

Looks like the upgrade might have done something to those application installs. The error you're seeing is from a wrapper script that is used to start Xephem. This script is looking for the actual binaries in a directory located in /usr/local/xephem, which now doesn't seem to exist on your system anymore. Likely it's looking for the "bin" subdirectory in that directory, in which would be the actual application binaries.
In any event, this wrapper script can no longer find these directories. Before trying to do much manual digging to see what happened, I'd just try to reinstall Xephem. That should be a fairly safe thing to try...

  • How "not to set locale " in user's profile?

In the "Oracle Universal Content Management 11gR1 Differences between 11gR1 and 10gR3" document
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/content-management/ucm/diffsbetween10gand11g.pdf
    says:
"If locale is not set in a user’s profile, Content Server can pick that up from a HTTP header variable."
However, how do I "not to set locale " in user's profile? it appears as a dropdown list and there is no option to enter null.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
What you're changing is per-user but those options are set in the Utilities->System Properties applet
    Here's how you change it:
Go to the System Properties applet:
UNIX: Start the System Properties utility by running the System_Properties script, which is located in the bin subdirectory of the Stellent Content Server installation directory.
Windows: From the Windows Start menu, select Programs -> Content Server Content Server -> [Instance Name] -> Utilities -> System Properties.
Then once the System Properties applet is started:
    # Open the Localization tab.
    # In the list of locales, you can Disable the locales you have here or maybe a new option with 11g will show up.
    # When you are done, click OK to apply the setting and exit System Properties.
    # Restart each instance of the content server.
    Cheers,
    malky

  • Can not add the Palm Emulator to Sun ONE Studio 5 ME

I am trying to add the Palm Emulator (version 3.5) to the list of emulation devices within the Sun ONE Studio 5 ME.
First, it seems like Studio 5 requires that the emulator resides in a bin subdirectory. Second and here where the problem is. Once the emulator is identified by Studio 5 (as a "Standard UEI Emulator" and after I click on "Next", Studio 5 tries to get information about the configuration of the emulator and its profiles.
I, immediately get an error (generated by the Palm OS Emulator) stating: "Don't understand the command line parameter "-version"." within a message box. Once I click OK, the Studio 5 says that the operation failed.
This is as far as I could go.
I would like to mention that I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1. I am also working with a ROM image that I downloaded from my PalmVx PDA.

    Hello Hassan,
I've done the following: I've used Palm emulator that's included with WTK 1.0.4_01 provided with Sun ONE Studio 5, ME. If you try to execute application using this 'device' you'll be asked to point to directory with Palm Emulator 3.5 (the one you have), emulator.exe. Then it takes over and asks for skins, ROMs and other stuff.
    Hope this helps,
    Peter

  • Error: package jxl does not exist

I've tried everything on this thread from 2007
how to import a jxl package?
and I still get the error: package jxl does not exist.
    I've:
1)added the the excelapi subdirectory that contains the jar file to the system class path, then I tried explicitly adding the jxl.jar file to the classpath (below)
    c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_02\bin\; c:\Program Files\Java\jexcelapi\jxl.jar;
2)I tried adding a copy of the jxl.jar file to the java\jdk1.7.0_02\bin\ subdirectory also.
Anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Neither of those is a very good idea.
You're also not telling how you're trying to compile the code.
If with javac, you should use the -cp switch to include the jxl library in the classpath.

  • Cannot open ddms.bat on android sdk because Java is not in my path

I'm trying to open the ddms.bat (Dalvik Debug Monitor) but it won't let me because Java is not in my path.
Some things you should know: 1. I barely know what I'm talking about so please walk me through any advice you give me, I'm brand new to all of this. 2. I'm only trying to get ddms.bat to open because I want to take android screenshots without rooting my Nexus One. 3. I'm using a laptop PC with Windows 7 64 bit. 4. Following directions from some site, I moved the entire Java file from C:\Program Files to C:\Program Files (x86)
I've downloaded jre, jdk, and eclipse. For some reason eclipse wont open, its giving me some error about could not open C:\Program Files\Java\jre\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg
Using a website that I googled, I was able to put C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_21\jre\bin into the PATH but I don't know if I did the user variable correctly because the website told me to enter "classpath" as the variable and "." as the value.
    Main Questions:
    1. How do I put Java in my path?
    2. How can I get the Eclipse application to open?
    3. Should I move Java back to C:\Progam Files rather than keeping it C:\Progam Files (x86)
    4. In order to get ddms.bat to open do I need jre, jdk, and eclipse or can I do with only one or two of them? And if so which ones do I need?
EDIT: I've moved the Java folder back to C:\Program Files and then tried to open ddms.bat and now cmd is giving the error that java.lang.UnsatisfiedError: Cannot load 32-bit SWT libraries on 64 bit JVM
What does that mean, and how can I fix it?
Also I've managed to get eclipse to open.
EDIT2: Got it to work somehow, that was really complicated but I'm just happy I got it. Heres the imgur link : imgur.com/ucBpY.png

Some things you should know: 1. I barely know what I'm talking about so please walk me through any advice you give me, I'm brand new to all of this. You might want to try familiarizing yourself with basic Java before using it to run a debugger of Java (or near-Java) code. Multiple layers of roughly the same thing can be hard to grok.
    4. Following directions from some site, I moved the entire Java file from C:\Program Files to C:\Program Files (x86)What do you mean by that? "entire Java file" doesn't really make sense.
I've downloaded jre, jdk, and eclipse. For some reason eclipse wont open, its giving me some error about could not open C:\Program Files\Java\jre\lib\amd64\jvm.cfgWell if it's looking for Java under that path, but you moved it to a different directory, that means it won't be able to find Java.
Using a website that I googled, I was able to put C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_21\jre\bin into the PATH but I don't know if I did the user variable correctly because the website told me to enter "classpath" as the variable and "." as the value. CLASSPATH and PATH are two entirely different things.
    Main Questions:
    1. How do I put Java in my path? You choose a sane standard place to put it there. Set the PATH environment variable to point to the bin/ subdirectory under your Java directory.
    2. How can I get the Eclipse application to open?Don't even use Eclipse yet. It's just adding more layers, and that makes each layer harder to learn.
Also, I've come to feel that Eclipse is usually more trouble than it's worth.
    3. Should I move Java back to C:\Progam Files rather than keeping it C:\Progam Files (x86)Probably. Why did you do that?
    4. In order to get ddms.bat to open do I need jre, jdk, and eclipse or can I do with only one or two of them? And if so which ones do I need? You probably just need the JRE (unless ddms.bat compiles things for some reason) but if you're planning to do any Java programming, you might as well install the JDK (it includes the JRE too).
EDIT2: Got it to work somehow, that was really complicated but I'm just happy I got it. Heres the imgur link : imgur.com/ucBpY.pngRegardless, I advise you to skip Eclipse. You want to learn how this thing works, not how to click on things.

  • Search Index hangs on large files

I am using the 6.1 SP4 Web Server on Windows XP. I have the default search application working. My problem is adding MS Word documents to the collection. Word documents of the size 25KB work, but when I add a large Word document 6934KB it just hangs with no CPU activity going on.
Is there a work around or a parameter that needs to changed to allow larger sized files to be indexed in the collection?

I'm not sure what's going wrong, but you may want to try increasing the amount of memory the search indexer is allowed to use. To do this, you'll need to modify the searchadmin.bat batch file. You can find it in your Web Server's bin\https\bin subdirectory.
First, make a backup copy of searchadmin.bat. Next, open searchadmin.bat in a text editor and replace "-Xmx128m" with "-Xmx1024m". This will allow the search indexer to use up to 8x more memory.
Please let us know whether this helps.

  • Installing J2SE

Hey all, it's me perlgoodies but I forgot my password and can't change it because I didn't setup a password reminder thing.
I formatted a few days ago and had to reinstall everything. Now I can't get javac to work, it keeps saying it's not a command on Win Xp. There was a free partial ebook I read which helped me set the ENV vars for classpath and path, but now I can't find the ebook and have no idea what it's called.
Anyone know what the two vars I need are?

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0 is what I am using for my path right now.The tools reside in the bin subdirectory of the jdk install.
I am actually a strong disbeliever in the linux platform, I'll stick to Windows XP until the new one comes out..Fair enough -- I'm a strong disbeliever in paper clips, viri, reinstalling, rebooting, drive letters, Documents\ And\ Settings, and other krap which prevents me from getting my work done and costs me money.

  • FLAC to MP3 Conversion (Stereo or Joint Stereo)

    Hello Again :
I regularly concert FLAC files to 192 kB MP3s using dBpoweramp Music Converter. This program's default / auto setting is Joint Stereo, as identfied in the "iTune | Get Info" option. Generallly, what's better : Stereo or Joint Stereo? I would very much appreciate if someone could clear this up for me. Thanks kindly.

The commands are straightforward. All they are doing is creating a local subdirectory in the usr directory, and then a bin subdirectory in the new local directory, so you'll be able to load the software and not have it overwritten/destroyed when a new update comes along. That's good practice.
The warning you're getting is standard operating procedure, the first time you execute the sudo command. Just take your time and follow the steps. Note, after you enter the sudo command, you'll get back Password: which requires you to enter your admin password. Do it slowly and carefully, then hit the return key. Don't worry if you muck entering the password, you can try three times.

  • Stereo vs. Joint Stereo (in FLAC to MP3 conversion) ?!

    Hi friends :
I often convert lossless FLAC files to MP3s at a constant bit rate of 192 kb/s. I then import the MP3s into my iTunes library.
I have tried two different FLAC converters: Switch Sound File Converter (Lame 3.82) and dBpoweramp Music Converter (Lame 3.98). The audio quality is virtually the same. However; the converted Switch files are in "Stereo" while the dBpoweramp files are in "Joint Stereo."
At a bit rate of 192, which should sound better : the Switch-created MP3s in Stereo, or the dBp-created MP3s in Joint Stereo?
Basically, which is better ... Stereo vs. Joint Stereo ?
All of the different articles on the Internet leave me confused. I just want to choose between the Switch and dBpoweramp converters.
Thanks for any help at all.

    Best Regards

most likely the javac executable is not on the system path. Try typing 'javac -version' in a command prompt and see what response you get.
If it is something like 'javac is not a recognized...', locate where the JDK is installed and add its bin subdirectory to the PATH system variable. Restart any command prompt and type javac again.
You DID have a JDK installed, didn't you?
