Binding to remote Oracle DB

I have successfully added a new datasource to my project that connects to a remote oracle database. I used the same settings that I do in Eclipse. The test connection worked fine. I was also able to click on the button to select a validation table from the Add DataSource dialog. This worked as well.
But when I try to expand the new DataSource node whether from the Servers pallete or from the bind to data provider from a component the IDE seems to hang. It no longer responds and if I switch to another program and come back I just see a grey backgound.
When I right click on the datasource node and choose view data I am able to perform queries with no problem.
Here is what I see in the log file that may be useful:

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have really been enjoying working with this IDE up to this point.
Thanks,

Never mind. It finally worked. I just needed to go and workout and when I got back viola the tree for the datasource node was expanded. Hope I can figure out how to speed things up.

  • Howto: portable bind, lookup remote + local beans (EJB3) to JNDI with WL 10

    I struggle writing portable ejb3 applications with weblogic.
    I have a JEE5 (EJB3) application using the standard and it works fine on JBoss and WebSphere.
    Porting it to Weblogic (10.0) there are quite a lot of problems, mainly
    in the area of JNDI lookups of EJBs.
    So the issue is how to configure the JNDI-Names of local and remote beans (EJB3!)
    in a portable way with Weblogic without making the application unportable.
    The biggest problem is caused by the fact, that WL 10 does not bind the EJBs
    to the JNDI-tree by default. The bound name would not really be important (JBoss and WebSphere
    come up with a value that can easily be used for a generic lookup). Just any binding
    would be fine.
    So there has to be some extra step in order to get WL 10 binding a remote or local
    bean into the JNDI tree. Unfortunately none of them works/is acceptable in an portable JEE app.
    Idea1: Using the "mappedName" attribute (of @Stateless, @Stateful)
    Well, this one is not portable as the documentation states:
    [http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs100/ejb30/annotations.html#wp1417411|http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs100/ejb30/annotations.html#wp1417411]
    Idea2: Using @weblogic.ejbgen.JndiName
    Using weblogic's annotation JndiName also doesn't bind the bean to the given names:
    @Stateless
    @weblogic.ejbgen.JndiName(local="myapp/XBean/local",remote="myapp/XBean/remote")
    public class XBean implements XLocal {
    Besides this, that code would not be portable (as nobody wants an weblogic.jar within another application server).
    Idea3: Using weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
    Mapping a bean using the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml below, also doesn't work.
    The bean is not bound to the given name "myapp/XBean/remote":
    Exception in thread "main" javax.naming.NameNotFoundException:
    Unable to resolve 'myapp.XBean.remote'. Resolved 'myapp.XBean' [Root exception is javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Unable to resolve 'myapp.XBean.remote'. Resolved 'myapp.XBean']; remaining name 'remote'
    Looking at the JNDI tree, there is "something" bound to "myapp.XBean", but it is not the bean.
    Doing a lookup with this name ("myapp/XBean" or "myapp.XBean"), gives this:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: weblogic.jndi.internal.WLContextImpl cannot be cast to test.server.XRemote
         at test.client.Client.main(Client.java:14)
    Question 1) What is the preferred way to bind and lookup a remote bean in Weblogic 10?
    Again: the goal is to use pure EJB3.
    Question 2) What is the preferred way to bind and lookup a local bean in WL 10?
    This lookup has to be done on the server in some "unmanaged" classes
    where injection doesn't work.
    If there is an unportable way to bind a local bean to jndi, it might do for the time.
    The important thing would be, that there is no weblogic specific code within the application.
    So, solving it using weblogic-xml files would be best.
    This declaration
    <local-jndi-name>myapp/XBean/local</local-jndi-name>
    will come up with the same problems, I guess.
    Here's the code. We want the local interface extending the remote interface,
    so that the local beans can do all what the remote beans can do too.
    XRemote.java
    package test.server;
    import javax.ejb.Remote;
    @Remote
    public interface XRemote {
    String JNDI_NAME = "myapp/XBean/remote";
    void doXRemote();
    XLocal.java
    package test.server;
    import javax.ejb.Local;
    @Local
    public interface XLocal extends XRemote {
    String JNDI_NAME = "myapp/XBean/local";
    void doXLocal();
    XBean.java
    package test.server;
    import javax.ejb.Stateless;
    @Stateless
    public class XBean implements XLocal {
    @Override
    public void doXLocal() {
    System.out.println("doXLocal() called");
    @Override
    public void doXRemote() {
    System.out.println("doXRemote() called");

    <jndi-name>myapp/XBean/remote</jndi-name>
    </weblogic-enterprise-bean>
    </weblogic-ejb-jar>
    Client.java
    package test.client;
    import java.util.Properties;
    import javax.naming.Context;

    Hi,
    about how to specify jndi name of remote ejb, please refer to this link: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=800314&tstart=1
    please note @JNDIName isn't an EJBGen annotation. its package name is weblogic.javaee.
    So far, based on the EJB spec, local ejb will not be bound to global JNDI. EJB3.1 specification is trying to specify the portable JNDI names including local EJBs, but it isn't published yet.
    local EJB is used within one application and ejb reference is used to lookup the local EJB. please refer to EJB specification about how to declare an EJB local reference. once it is declared, it can be looked up from the java:comp\env JNDI namespace.
    But, if the local client of the EJB isn't a JavaEE component, there won't be any declaration of ejb-local-ref. You may want to try remote access to the EJB from the non-JavaEE client.

    First, this is a forum of volunteers.  There is no "urgent" here.
    "Urgent" means one of two things -
    1) people are dying, or
    2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
    (And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
    For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
    For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For *them* to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2. I seriously doubt your problem fits that criteria.
    You don't have a support contract?  Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data.
    That said, you need to understand a few things about your specific problem,
    First, port 1521 is only used by the listener to accept a connection request.  Once it gets that request (and finds that it is for a service (sid) that it knows about, it will fork a server process and tell the requesting client that it can communicate with that server process over some other port .. a randomly chosen port number in the "high" range.  It could be your vpn is blocking that other port, whereas your internal firewall is not.
    But this is just an educated guess since I cannot find "can not connect remote oracle database over VPN" in any error message manual. If you had mentioned the VPN along with an actual oracle error message we could be much more precise in our diagnoses and recommendations.
    ---- edit 22 Sep
    It occurred to me that I just assumed you were using the same client machine in both cases ... a laptop that you use both at work (local network) and home (vpn).  If that assumption is false, there are probably problems with your tns setup on the home (vpn) machine.
    But again, it would be much easier to help if you gave us an actual error message.

  • How to load date field from a remote Oracle DB with DB Connect

    Hi,
    Does any one have experience extracting Date field from a remote Oracle database through DB Connect to BW?  I am experiencing data format issue.  The extracted data shows '04-Oct-0' for '10/4/05'.  It works fine if I create a view in Oracle database to preformat the data to '20051004'.  But, I am not allowed to create view in Remote DB.
    Any suggestion is very appreciated.
    Regards,
    Frank

    You have to change it to a varchar2 field. YYYYMMDD. I do not know of any other option.

    Hi there,
    when i use the tool toad connect to a remote oracle server which located in a different city,
    when i submit a query in toad,
    if the query returns many rows of data, it will raise the error ORA-03113:end-of-file on communication channel,
    however if the query returns only a few rows, i won't raise such error,
    however, when i use sqlplus connect to that remote server, it won't raise such error,
    what's the reason is, can any one tell me how to tackle this problem if using the tool toad. thanks/

    and i've tried two different kind version of toad v9.6 and v10.5, and both have the same problem
    once i query a table, if the result returned more than 30 rows, then it will raise that error, if query returns less than 30 rows, it's ok.
    i assume it is a problem concern with network, but i don't know why no such error raise when using sqlplus ?

  • Select Grant on local Table to the Remote Oracle User

    How Can we Give a SELECT Grant on a Specific Table to the Remote Oracle User.

    IIRC, the remote user accesses local objects via a schema on the local database. That suggests you need to grant SELECT on the local table to the local schema that the remote user connects by.

  • PHP and remote Oracle DB

    Does anyone know what is needed to connect PHP to a remote Oracle 10g DB? I have followed the steps at http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/notes/technote_php_instant.html but and a little confused because I am not the Oracle guy.
    They speak of Oracle 10g's Easy Connect syntax and use a PHP variable $c = OCILogon('hr', 'hr_password', '//mymachine.mydomain/MYDB');. Now is there something on the Oracle DB side that allows this connection syntax? Is there anything on the DB side that I have to enable to allow this remote connection?
    I've used MySQL and PHP but having no knowledge of Oracle makes it hard for trial and error.
    I cant seem to find a simple answer (or it may be I dont understand it) on what is needed for a remote DB connection without them going into other avenues that involving tnsnames.ora or Oracle client environment variables.
    I have PHP 5, Apache 2, and the Instant client on a Windows 2000 Pro machine, and a remote Red Hat AS 4 Oracle 10g Database.
    Any help to lead me on the right path will be appreciated.

    You probably don't have to do anything at the DB end.
    Grab 10g instant client for your platform and build php with oci8 support.
    In your php script you will only have to enter the "Easy Connect URL" for the database.
    Let's say your oracle DB is running on a machine called alpha.com and the SID of the DB is FOO and the listener port is 1521. Then the easy connect URL is
    //alpha.com:1521/FOO
    You must already know the service name/SID of your DB.
    The "Easy Connect" naming automatically changes the "easy connect url" to the correct TNSNAMES format.
    (TNSNAME is the standard way of telling the OCI client the complete location details of the DB).

  • Connecting to remote oracle server from asp

    Hi All
    How can I access remote oracle server from asp?. I'm using the following connection string.
    " Provider=MS Remote;Remote Provider=MSDAORA;Data Source=XYZ;Remote Server=http://DBServersIP;User Id=id;Password=pw"
    Both the web server and DB server has oracle client. I can tnsping, connect using sql * plus from the webserver.
    But when I try to do simple connection & query , I get the following error.
    " Microsoft ADO/RDS(0x80072EFD)
    Internet Client Error: Cannot Connect to Server.
    All the permission settings are given correctly (after referring Microsoft & Oracle websites)
    Can someone throw some links or help.?
    Your replies much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Arum

    why do you have http://DBServersIP as the remote server?
    Your connection string should look like:
    "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};Server=MY_SID;Uid=my_user;Pwd=my_pwd;"
    There are other variations, but none of them should include HTTP anywhere.

  • Insert into remote Oracle DB from Excel spreadsheet

    We currently have a Full Oracle database ( PROD ) which I can remotely link to with a version of Oracle Express on my desktop. Also, I can successfully link to an Excel spreadsheet. I am able to insert into a table on the Oracle Express database from the Excel link, and I can also insert to the PROD database from the Oracle Express database.
    However, when I try to insert rows into the remote PROD database from Excel, I get the following error.
    "Problem ORA-02019 connection discription for remote database not found ORA-02063; preceding line from XE ORA-02063 preceding 2 lines from PROD"
    The syntax that I am trying to use is:
    "Insert into temp@prod
    select * from Sheet1$@excel"
    The above syntax works very well to insert rows on the Oracle Express database from Excel, but is creating the error when trying to insert to a remote Oracle database.
    Is this solvable? Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Where are the data-binding frameworks for Oracle Objects?

    Oracle offers a few different options for data-binding frameworks to Oracle relational data. Amongst them they include TopLink and the Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF)in JDeveloper 10G. J2EE also offers the EJB standard framework. Both of the Oracle data-binding frameworks appear to work well with relational data but fail miserably when one tries to work with a fully fledged Oracle Object-Relational schema. I have spend much time with ADF but have not been able to create successful bindings to Objects with nested complex objects (such as a 2-level nested object) or objects containing nested tables. TopLink will not even touch Object tables.
    Have other people being more successful with this? Do we have to implement our own data binding framework? Does Oracle plan on improving these frameworks to fully support Oracle Objects?

    TopLink Runtime supports both fully fledged OX mappings and nested complex objects. These mappings can be setup in the code.
    TopLink ADF design time however currently does not have support for OX mappings.

    Let me see your code. A simple executeQuery() should do the trick:
    Statement s = c.createStatement();
    ResultSet r = s.executeQuery("select sysdate from dual");
    while (r.next())
    java.sql.Timestamp t = r.getTimestamp(1);

    Weblogic JDriver for Oracle "implementation" is really weak as a lot

    This is why you get this message.
    You may find the (very impressive) list of non implemented methods at
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs70/oracle/API_joci.html#1162621 (sorry
    HTML links don't seem to work here).
    Any call to one of this methods will give you these nasty message and

    Try to use the "official" Oracle JDBC driver XA Datasource
    (oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource) instead of Weblogic JDriver
    for Oracle one's.

    HI,
    Suppose ur Database resides on X machine
    and u want to do remote login from y or z ,
    follow the conditions and steps below
    1) You need to install servermanager utility in ur remote machine
    2)then u need to run orapwd.exe utility on ur remote machine with following command
    "orapwd file=<full path name where u want to keep ur password file > password=<password> entries=<no of DBAs u want that password file to be accessed by>"
    after this u need to change Parameter in initialisation file , u will find one entry called "REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=NONE" u have to change it to " REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=EXCLUSIVE" u can also control multiple dabases from this same password file for that u will have to change above entry to REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=SHARED,after this
    u need to pass following command "ALTER USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY <PASSWORD U LIKE > "
    this will change the password of both INTERNAL and SYS, now if u want to give multiple user access to this file then simply u grant two roles to them "ALTER SYSTEM GRANT SYSOPER,SYSDBA TO <USERNAME>" (INTERNAL AND SYS have these roles by default) this will add that user to that file now that user can also go to servermanager.Now u can Connect with any of the user which u have added in passwordfile in ur machine, and can remotely start or stop database with following Commands "STARTUP" "SHUTDOWN" respectively
    *Note -
    1)Location of password file is OS specific
    2)if ur using windows then u need to remove one entry in registry "DBA_AUTHORISATION =''

    Hi,
    may be its not possible to use :P_PARAM1 in user parameter of oracle 6i reports
    but u can full fill user requirement using oracle forms
    create a form as like as report parameter window
    then create parameter list and run report
    PROCEDURE Run_Emp_Report IS
      pl_id ParamList;
    BEGIN
      pl_id := Get_Parameter_List('tmpdata');
      IF NOT Id_Null(pl_id) THEN
        Destroy_Parameter_List( pl_id );
      END IF;
      pl_id := Create_Parameter_List('tmpdata');
      Add_Parameter(pl_id, 'PARAMFORM', TEXT_PARAMETER, 'NO');
      Run_Product(REPORTS, 'empreport', SYNCHRONOUS, RUNTIME, FILESYSTEM, pl_id, NULL);
    END;
