Bios upgrade and spontaneous shutting down

Hi, I have an s10e, and recently upgraded my bios to 96 version. Right after the upgrade, the computer started shutting itself off without any notification. The shutdown is basically sudden, seems to happen just randomly, but usually takes less than 10min after starting up. Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated. It is a very annoying problem and my computer is practically not usable. I suspect it is the low treshold CPU temperature settting, but the bios does not have an option to manually change this. The fan control programs I got from this website did not help either. Help! Please!

Hi and welcome..
to extract is there a hardware issue or software issue... the answer isnt  easy
in normal case... there isnt a dependency of updating BIOS or not... But when u use a program that tried to manipulate hardware special or something.. that could be run into failure...
Starting in BIOS ... press F2 to to get in BIOS press F9 to load setup defaults... change some values you want/or not .. for example Config site ... Quickstart on/off Beep AC On/off ... BOOT settings
Fn-F7 to activate numlock via +/- arrange USB CD to first USB HDD to second HDD to third.. then leave BIOS with F10 save and exit...
Starting windows ... and reduce start up programs to prevent that a program could do the unattended shutdown...
How to do that   XP Startup
after this procedure...look is there a wrong setting in  Lenovo Energymanagement  ...
...still shutdown ... temperature ? getting warm ?
download coretemp to watch temperature ... >over 65 C there is something wrong...
then you can call your local service ....
if temp is not so warm .. and still shutdown ...could be other problem...
sincerely KalvinKlein

my downloaded apps are not opening, they flash and then shut down. This hapened after i upgraded to the 5.0. How do i fix it!? I've tried everything

You need to resync you applications or redownload them for free via app store. They may be read by your phone, but they are really not there. Re downloading will fix this.

  • HT201401 Safari and Camera spontaneously shut down...help

I have an iPhone 4s.  I do all the updates that are available, so I'm at the latest version of iOS available. Safari will open and let me use it, but it spontaneously shuts down frequently...to the point where I don't even use it now, its so irritating.  Also the Camera was doing the same thing.  I would hit the shutter button and it would shut down.  Did that for awhile... couldn't get it to even work to take a picture in a text.  Now it won't even open... hit the app and it starts to open and then shuts down.  Anyone have similar issues or a solution?
    Thanks!

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Mini spontaneous shut-down and application shut-down problem

    Help!
    I've searched. I've read. I can't find the answer!
After I updated my firmware several weeks ago (to SMC 1.3f4), I've had problems with spontaneous shut-down of the computer, and a frustrating application shut-down issue (Safari, Mail, Word--you name it!).
I tried to find the other firmward update from last summer, which I read about in several posts from July/August, but the link is dead (Mac Mini Firmware update 1.0.1).
Coincidentally, after an office break-in two weeks ago, I FileVaulted my computer. I thought my problem must have to do with that, but all the posts I can find here are about this firmware thing.
Should I/can I reinstall the SMC 1.3f4 update? Is there some secret to the no-longer-available 1.0.1 update?
Can anyone help me? (I would certainly appreciate it!)
    Garth

Try a safe boot, hold the shift key and power up, this will take a little loner than normal, hold the shift till you see the progress bar. See if it works normal, if it does than it is more than likely some 3rd party software. Then restart normal and check your console for panics. That would be your isssue.  You can also start holding command R and restoring from utililities.  Back up before you do anything.

  • My MBP (2007 intel) freezes or spontaneously shuts down and crackling comes from the speakers.

My MBP (2007 intel) freezes or spontaneously shuts down and crackling comes from the speakers. Sometimes this happens together all at once? It happens with and without peripherals. Has this happened to anyone else?
It does not seem to be linked to a specific program or periferal use.
I would appreciate if someone can shed some light on this.

Run the Apple Hardware Test and swee if any issues are discovered.  Also a SMC and PRAM resets may help.
    Ciao.

  • Ibook g4 spontaneously shuts down

lately my ibook g4 just shuts down with no warning. it's been happening more often since updating to 10.4.11, though it happened before that as well. and by shut down, i mean the screen goes instantly black and it's off, no warning whatsoever. i have to press the power btn and it then boots normally.
it happens when it's hot... but it also has happened when it's not hot too (after surfing the web for 10 mins the other night).
any ideas what the problem could be? should i install an older version of os x? can i do so without wiping the hd first?

I have the same problem. And I haven't done any recent upgrades. It sometimes shuts itself off suddenly only once every few days, and sometimes it's once every few hours. Earlier tonight, it did it three times in about 30 minutes.
The other oddity is that sometimes, pushing the power button doesn't reboot it. It's like the whole system is stuck. I have to unplug the power cable, and completely remove the battery. Then, once I put everything back, THEN I can can reboot it.
And after reboot, a message shows up saying "The system rebooted after an unexpected OS shutdown" or something to that effect.
I'm thinking about taking it to the nearest apple store on Monday, but I really don't want to be without the computer for days or weeks while they diagnose it and fix it. Hopefully someone will have a suggestion.

  • Spontaneous shutting down.

My Power iMAc G5 10.4.11 is spontaneously shutting down when I close all open apps.
This has never happened before and energy saver shutdown does not appear active when checked.
I know this is an old iMac and I will be replacing it later this year, but it works fine otherwise and does everything that I need it to.
    Any advice?
    Many thanks.

    Have you reset the SMU?

  • HT5361 I can't shut down my computer because it says mail is open.  It says to close mail and continue shut down.  Problem is I can't open or close mail now.  Can't shut down my computer at all.  What can I do?

I can't shut down my computer because it says mail is open.  It says to close mail and continue shut down.  Problem is I can't open or close mail now.  Can't shut down my computer at all.  What can I do?

If you cannot get mail to quit/force quit, you can always remove power from your Mac.
NOTE: removing power is a bad idea, and can result in data loss, but sometimes it is the only thing left to do.
Press and hold the power button for 5 to 10 seconds, and the Mac will power off.
When you power back on, the Mac should reboot.

Thank you for your reply BDAqua.
Yes I ran short and the Extended Test. All pass. One of the first things I did is Safe Boot several times I also repaired permissions. Safe boot takes no longer than before the crashes and as long as I stay in safe boot mode it won't crash. What does that mean?I also ran MacJanitor and removed the SCCUZI card Apple put in when I bought the G4 as well as an M-Audio Delta 66 card which I do not use (both) anymore. I also started up on an external firewire drive 10.4.6. It also (crashes) does the same thing.
I was hoping somebody understands the crash report I enclosed? Isn't that suppose to say what went wrong?
Thank you again for your input BDAqua

My iPhone 5s with iOS 7.1 become very hot when charged almost reach 100 % and will shut down itself. Then I need to off the power and let it cool down first before I can on the phone back. Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks.

    Hi Limfromsi,
It is normal to an extent for the iPhone to get warm during charging. If your iPhone is currently in a case, you may want to try charging it without one and see if the issue occurs, as the design of the iPhone uses the exterior of the device as a cooling surface. For more information about iPhones and temperature, you may find the following article helpful:

If you continue to have issues with your iPhone in the default config (no case, using the included original cable and power adapter), you may want to have your phone evaluated for service. The following page may be of use:
