I just upgraded to Snow Leopard then Lion and the computer shut down after installation.
Now when it starts up it gets as far as the apple icon and then shuts down again
whenever I turn it on it loads that far and then closes.
HELP!

Restore your bootable backup/clone  or Time Machine backup of Snow Leopard, launch Disk Utility from the install disc, repair the boot volume, and reinstall Lion.

If the dialogue appeared once, and you cancelled once, the dialogue may reappear when you next log in. For more certainty I suggest a restart of the operating system, then a log in.
If you like: immediately after the problem is worked around, open the Console utility to see whether — amongst its view of all messages — there is an obvious sign of what caused the dialogue to appear. (If you see nothing obvious, don't waste too much time looking.)

  • Just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion...iMac crashes now.

Hi everyone. I need help. I updated operating system yesterday afternoon from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5. Since then, my iMac keeps on crashing due to kernel panics. It's done this at least 7 times. I'm sure it's software related, but how do I go about identifying which programs are compaitable? Any help on this would be great. Here's a c&p of problem report:

Read all about uninstalling Mackeeper (also called 911 sometimes) and UNINSTALL it. There is an unistaller on Mackeeper's site, but I do not think that all will be installed.
    That will solve your problem.
If you do not succeed, search on your computer (EasyFind or Findanyfile) for com.zeobit.kext, throw this file in the TrashBin and restart then empty the TrashBin.
Search for all zeobit entries, destroy them.
    Never install this crapware again.

  • Just upgraded from snow leopard to maverick.  Can't access pictures from iPhoto now.

    Suggestions?

No suggestions until you explain what "can't access pictures from iPhoto now"... means, or even looks like.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

HELP!! i have a ton of videos of my boys stored in iPhoto..They played fine on my old OSX system (leopard).  However, I just upgraded to snow leopard and then to mountain lion and now i can't open my videos at all anymore.  HELP!!

Can you tell us about one or more of the video files - what are they?  QuickTime?  MP4?  Something else?  How did you create the video files in the first place?
I do a lot of video and when I upgraded to Snow Leopard I discovered that many of the QT videos that I had created previously (via iMovie & Final Cut) would not play correctly in QuickTime X - the bizarre behavior was that QT X acted as if my video files were only audio files!  I reported this to Apple at the time but never heard anything back, and there hasn't been any change in later updates to QT X.
The solution was to (re)install QuickTime 7.  But first look in your Applications > Utilities folder.  When you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the installer normally moves the old QT 7 program to your Utilities folder.  If it's there, try using QT 7 to play one of your video files.    If QT 7 is not there, you can download and install it from here  Make sure you are running at least OS X 10.6.3 before you install QT 7.  It's even better if you make sure you are running 10.6.8 which was the last release of Snow Leopard.

  • I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and a new imac. Could someone tell me where the preference is to have a file open in its original file format. Right now my illustrator eps are opening in preview.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and a new Imac. Could someone tell me where the preference is to change file to open in original program instead of preview?

Right-click on one of the files and choose 'get info'. in the info box. Change the 'open with' setting to your correct application. Check the 'always open with' option before OK-ing the change, then click the 'change all' button before closing the info window.

  • Dont Judge - I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. My computer is performing so much faster. Is this because of the upgrade? Also, what is the name of the latest software, please.

After a long time, I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard. My computer is seemingly running so much faster, could this be because of the upgrade? The reason it took me so long in the first place is I could not find the location to delete all the used memory. I happened to luck upon a place just the other day that said "all media". From there I was able to go through and get rid of approximately 15GB worth of memory. My computer has been saving multiple copies of all my images. I do not know how to make this stop happening. Has anyone had this experience?

10.6 is faster than 10.5 because of updated video drivers, however the machine will slow down if you upgrade OS X past 10.6.8 as 10.7 and 10.8 are more hardware demanding operating system verisons.
Also 10.7 and 10.8 will not run your PPC based software or older Intel software, requiring all new purchases.
From there I was able to go through and get rid of approximately 15GB worth of memory
What you did was free up 15GB of storage space on your boot drive which if a boot hard drive is getting near full will slow down the comptuers performance. Ideally it's best to stay under 50% filled, but never more than about 80%.
Your "memory" actually refers to the RAM which the processor uses as temporary storage space while it works on things.
    Why is my computer slow?
My computer has been saving multiple copies of all my images. I do not know how to make this stop happening. Has anyone had this experience?
Sometimes the duplicates are actually thumbnails, or tiny versions for rapid display in programs like iPhoto with the smaller images to preview before you click the larger version, so they will always be recreated.
Hopefully you didn't delete the original larger files by accident.
The "All Images" is particularly dangerous if not used wisely.
Also it might have been you forget and duplicated the images at one time or another.

  • I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and have lost my epson printer software. On Epson Aus. web page there is no upgrade of their software for my printer with Snow Leopard. Can i download a lesser operating system software for printer?

I have just upgraded to snow leopard and lost my epson printer software. I have checked Epson Aus web site for printer software but they haven't upgraded it for snow leopard. Am i able to download software for a lesser operating system then snow leopard or do i have to purchase a new printer? The model is stylus photo R310.

Have you tried the R300 or R320 software? Typically the software covers a broad spectrum of printers, often providinbg overlap to cover "relatives" of a series.

  • Just upgraded to Snow Leopard, but Palm device 4.0 won't sync with it.  Any hope?

Can anybody tell me how to make Palm handheld running system 4.2.2 work on the Mac I just upgraded to Snow Leopard?

It would help if you stated what Palm device you are using. I had a Tungsten T3 and then an E2 running perfectly well on Snow Leopard before I gave Palm up, using Desktop 4.2.1 rev.d, so you could give that a try:

    or failing that 4.2.1 rev.a

though I can't remember what the difference was.

  • Just upgraded to snow leopard, downloader apple support drivers for canon mp620.  Why won't a printer list display in add printer window?

Just upgraded to snow leopard, downloader apple support drivers for canon mp620.  Why won't a printer list display in add printer window?

Assuming the MP620 is connected to your wireless network, then there are two components to this device - the printer and the scanner. The printer uses Canon proprietary software while the scanner is supported by Apple's Bonjour service. So in many cases, you will at least see the scanner, shown as Bonjour Scanner in the Kind column, while the printer can take longer to appear and is shown as canonijnetwork in the Kind column. If you cannot see either then you have a network issue. Try turning off the MP620 for a minute and then turning back on. Then see if the scanner / printer component appears in the Add Printer window. If you still don't see either, then confirm the MP and the Mac are using the same network. If you know the MP's IP address you can use Network Utility to Ping the address. You can also enable Bonjour Bookmarks in Safari preferences and when selected, the MP620 should appear.

  • Just upgraded to Snow leopard; can't receive photo attach's in email

We just upgraded to snow leopard and now can't receive photos in email attachments. All that pops up is a bunch of alpha-numeric characters in some emails and the little blue boxes with the inserted question marks in others. Also seem to note that replies are not denoted or marked/flagged as they were in the previous version, though this is not as big a deal as the said replies seem to make it to their intended destination. Mail version is 4.5 (1084). Please advise

Another note, Ernie... I said that I emailed a pic from the imac (which is where I'm having the problems... snow leopard?) to my ipad and no problem, the pic shows up fine; but if I then forward that email BACK to the imac, then no-go... no pic just the following, and I'm shortening it for simplicity's sake:

  • I have a Mac mini OSX 10.4.11 Intel Core Duo, 512mb, 1.83 GHz with iTunes 9.0.3. What steps do I need to take to get my music library to my iPad. I dont think I meet the requirements to just upgrad to snow leopard and/or lion. I want the music I paid for

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor.  I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system.  I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad.  The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell.  Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me.  What can I do to get the music transferred.  I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer.  Thank you in advance if you can help me.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3.  Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialog box so large I can't get to the eject card button.   I have to force quit Aperture.  How do I fix?

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3.  Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialogue box so large that I can't see the eject card button.  Consequently, I can't get rid of the dialogue box without having to do a force quit on Aperture.  How do I fix?

I can drag the dialog box, but I can't move it up far enough to get to the eject card button.  The dialogue box contains all the jpeg Numbers I am trying to upload.  It has never done that before.  It used to be just a smal dialogue box with no jpeg numbers in it.
It is even difficult to get to the Finder with the Dialague box is open.  I have to force quit aperture.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Open General preferences in System Preferences. You can set the desired scrollbar behavior there.

  • Just upgraded to snow leopard and my intellipoint mouse doesn't work, does it not work with the later versions of the OS

I just upgraded to snow leopard and now my intellipoint mouse doesn't work, I tried downloading a new driver and it installs successfully except an extension but it still doesn't work, is this typical of the OS higher than 10.4? Is there any way I can get around this problem?

You need to check with the mouse's developer and see if it's supported or not. That information wouldn't be known by users on this forum.
