_blank in Internet Explorer 7
Hi all,
Microsoft has released Internet Explorer 7 and there is a
major flaw (they might call it a feature :-) for those of us that
make Flash banner ads for a living. Using getURL() with
target=_blank will not open the target in a new window/tab, but
will replace the contents of the window where the swf is residing.
Does anyone know anything about this? Anyone got a
workaround?

First off that first link to the graphics site does not work. Getting a page not found error. Although I was able to do a quick lucky guess and added an "l" to the end of the address and it worked.
Second, because the link is embedded within a Flash document, your problem will lie within the ActionScript code as opposed to the HTML. Thus you would be better off posting this in the Flash forum with your ActionScript code to get better troubleshooting responses.

Web.SHOW_DOCUMENT('URL', '_blank') doesn't work for Internet Explorer 7
Hello,
In my company, we are using Oracle Forms 10.1.2.0.2.
After inserting a URL, users are logged in. There is one page in the application that uses a button to open a PDF in a new page.
Code behind this button:
web.SHOW_DOCUMENT('URL', '_blank');
For internet explorer 6, there is no problem, but last week, some users have upgraded their browser to Internet Explorer 7. When they now push the PDF button, nothing happens. No error is given.
Could someone please help me..Actually, I think a couple of my colleagues have seen this with IE7 recently... It seemed to be related to individual PCs rather than anything in our software, and was sort-of sporadic. I think on one of the PCs, there'd been an update to the Google toolbar and that had caused problems (and of course, if you have Google toolbar, that has its own popup blocker that you need to disable for the site in question.)
Sorry to be vague, but I would look for any other browser plug-ins on the machine that might be causing issues.

Spry Menu issues in Internet Explorer
I have created a Spry menu for my website and although the menu appears to look fine in Firefox and Safari, the formatting changes in Internet Explorer(IE).
1.sub menu bar is not dropping down below the main menu bar it is appearing at the top of the screen.
2.When you hover over the sub menu bar items the font should be white however in IE it is appearing as an aqua color.
3.The menu bar is not straight across the page, at the beginning and end there are chunks of the menu bar that appear white.
Are there any fixes for these issues that would help to make the menu look consistent across all browsers. The website page is

and facility operators will be needed in the oil sands. As construction
of more and more oil sands projects ends and production begins, there
is a change in the kind
of workers most needed. More maintenance trades are needed and less
construction trades workers are needed. Also, companies now need more
operating and technical employees, such as process operators, power
engineers, and instrumentation technicians.<p>A study recently put out by the Government of Alberta (Report on Phase
2 of the Oil Sands Labour Resource Study) found that from 2006 to 2020,
15,000 new employees would be needed for operations and maintenance
in the oil sands industry. The study says there will be a need for
over 5,000 plant and facility operators between 2006 and 2020. This
includes process operators
(noc 9232) and power engineers (noc 7351).

Recently, there have been over 80 job postings for process operators
and power engineers, so there is great opportunity in Wood Buffalo
for this occupation.

<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">“Attrition
is one reason (for the increased need) because a lot of the older
guys are going to be coming to the age of retirement within a
very short time and they will have to be replaced,” says
John Cook, associate dean of technology with Keyano College. “The
other reason is expansion of the existing plants and new plants
starting up.”</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hazel White,
recruitment advisor with Syncrude Canada Ltd. says they recently
had a large number of process operator
positions
posted online
because of their practice to promote staff within the company.While
this is an entry-level position, most companies require that
their employees have at least a high school diploma and their fourth
class power engineering ticket. For more information on education,

<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>Process operators</strong><br>
There are a few different kinds of process operators: refinery/upgrader
process operator, gas plant operator, and oil and gas pipeline operator,
to name a few. The jobs found in Fort McMurray are generally related
to mineral and hydrocarbon processing in the oil sands industry.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">When
searching for jobs, be aware that there are a number of different
job titles for process operators. Usually, the title of the job
is based on the process the employee is involved with or by the
unit
in which the employee works. See the list on this page for

industries</strong><br>
There are industries other than oil and gas where process operators
can work, such as pulp mills and chemical plants. They may process
different products, but employers will often consider hiring workers
from these other industries.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">“We have been successful in taking people that had previously worked
in a paper mill,” says White with Syncrude. “The processes
are certainly different. They’re dealing with paper, rather
than oil, but we recently hired 18 (previous mill workers) and
it’s
my understanding that all 18 have gotten their fourth class tickets
since coming to Syncrude. We still need people with refinery experience,
but it is possible.” </font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>Power engineering</strong><br>
Process operators in the Fort McMurray area generally have their
fourth or third class power engineering certificate, which allows
them to
process steam and operate boilers. Other process operators, such
as pulp mill operators, don’t necessarily need this. </font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">In
order to be called a power engineer, a person must be certified
through the Alberta Boilers Safety Association to operate pressure
equipment (www.absa.ca). </font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">There are
four different levels of power engineer—the lowest
is fourth class, going up to first class. For more information

at 780-714-3067.</font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>Field and control
room operators</strong><br>
There are basically two levels of process operators in Fort McMurray:
field operators and control room operators (or board operators). </font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">“</font><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Primarily
when someone is starting out, they’re in the field,” says
Cook. “After a few years they can become a board
operator if they want to do that. They are more experienced
and are
kind of like
the team lead. They tell the field people what needs to
be done and if it needs manual operation, (the field operators)
go out and do it—turning
valves, adjusting an instrument to control temperature,
pressure, flow, or level.”</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Process
operators are responsible for the initial separation processes
or the special treatment
required to ensure that
impurities such
as water and sediments are removed from oil and gas in
the field. Once
separated, the oil or gas is transported by pipeline
to refineries, gas plants or markets.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Some duties
of a process operator are operating equipment to ensure that
the oil meets
specifications before it
goes into
a pipeline.

There are many power engineering programs around northern Alberta
(see below) and some process operating courses. Keyano College
offers co-ops
for both courses and one of the advantages of this program,
besides being in Fort McMurray, is the job placements which
are provided.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">“We only take as many students as we can guarantee work placement
spots, and students have to compete for a seat,” says Cook. “We
look at their educational background, their marks and then
there’s
an interview process with Keyano staff and industry people—just
like applying for a job.”</font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>Salary and benefits</strong><br>
The pay range for this occupation varies greatly depending
on experience and training, but the range is about $20
to $47 per
hour, but averages
about $30 to $40 per hour. </font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Because these
positions are for ongoing production and maintenance of oil
sands projects,
employees are expected
to move to
Fort McMurray, regardless of whether they are doing shift
work or
not.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Over the
next few years, there will be many more opportunities for people
wanting to get into a career in process
operating
or power engineering.</font></p></td>

Troubles with web.show_document and internet explorer
Hi folks, this is my problem
I generate a text file on forms and then I use this to open the document in a new window
web.show_document( nome_ver_, '_BLANK' );where nome_ver_ is a variable with the url
Using mozila firefox this run fines and a new window is open and everything goes right.
But in some machines with the internet explorer the new window appear and then close in milliseconds. I try different's versions of IE on the machine and still have the problem...
Anyone see this bug?
I try to disabled everything on secure on IE and still nothing...

LuisYou are generating a text file you say. Is it a pure text file? Or is it html that you wnt the user to view in the browser?

Spry menu works in Firefox and Safari, but not Internet Explorer
I designed my school website in CS4 and CS5. The left spry menu bar appears correctly in Firefox and Safari, but in Internet Explorer the gray background and buttons do not appear. You can only see the text and when you scroll over the text, it disappears even though when you click on it, the link does appear. The website is http://ml.chinookschools.org. I created the site on a mac and I am hosting it on a mac mini server on my network at school. I am a beginner with Dreamweaver and I'm not sure if someone can help me with this, but I would sure be appreciative for any help offered. Here is the source code for the main template page:

The latest version of the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.
Then, if you have a look near the bottom of SpryMenuBarVertical.css you will see that the white background colour has been specified for IE as in
@media screen, projection

background: #FFF;
Change the value to #CCC and it will have fixed that part of the problem.
When you upgrade to the later version of Spry, make sure to keep a copy of the CSS file as a reference to modifying the new CSS file.

Internet Explorer 7.0 not recognizing mimetype/msexcel
I am using
1. Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2
2. Internet Explorer Version 7.0.5730.11
3. Microsoft Excel Version 11.0
4. JInitiator 1.3.1.21
Forms calls a report using
web.show_document(url + server (https:\\....) + &mimetype=application/msexcel&title=temp.xls' ,'_BLANK');
and the report output opens in Excel Spreadsheet. In the report, desformat = DELIMITED.
Now, after installing Internet Explorer 7.0, the report output fails to open the output in Excel. I get a window 'File Download - Security Warning' with the following information
Name: getjobid1234
Type : unknown File Type
From : server name
with three buttons (three options)
Find button, Save button, Cancel button
1. Find button takes me to microsoft.com site and gives additional information like mimetype/excel and does nothing else.
Did anyone face this problem? Does anyone has a solution?
I know it has something to do with Internet Explorer settings. I am trying by changing the options.
Any help is appreciated.- it takes a while to loadCut down on the toolbars you show on it. The less toolbars you have on the editor the faster it loads. It's some fairly complex javascript though so you it's going to take a second to initialize from what I remember tinyMCE is comparable in that regard.
- I was not able to perform any javascript validation
of the user text. This is important because if you
have to rely on ApEx validation to verify that the
user entered text is less than 32k, the text is lost

I've saved up to 12 megs of text no problem. Or you need to keep trying with your js validation it should work, as far as js is concerned the form item is still accessible and you can check the length using standard javascript to stop the form submission

However, it always loads in the current window, and not a new
one. Has anyone else been experiencing this in the new IE release?
I've checked my IE config settings, but still can't get it to work.

_target is not HTML parameter :) it returns the target path
of the instance.
Also, getURL is not confine to timeline so there should be no
_root it the action path.
Just use getURL("foo.html", "_blank"); if you like to open
new window

Are you asking what the JavaScript function is? :) If so,
it's
window.open(), as recommended by anonymous thing. Use Google

JavaScript can be triggered by getURL(), as explained by
anonymous
thing. It can also be triggered with asfunction and the new
(as of Flash 8)
ExternalInterface class, which is the current recommendation.
You
mentioned you're working with Flash MX 2004, so that choice
won't be
available in your case.

Weird text problem in Internet Explorer
I have a totally puzzling issue with my text in my website.
The problem is that it looks fine when the site is previewed in Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari but when previewed in Internet Explorer for some unknown reason some of the text displays incorrectly as illustrated in image 2 below.
I have been trying for days to solve this issue but nothing I have tried so far can solve the issue. Is anyone out there familiar with this bug?

Problems when displaying html in internet explorer
I am trying for two weeks to make an HTML code looks good in
IE (internet explorer), but I have been unsuccessful. The code
looks great on Firefox, but really bad in IE. Here is my code

It appears you have used ImageReady to write the HTML for
this page (it has
the hallmarks - uppercase tags, unquoted attribute values,
and zillions of
col-/rowspans). Such HTML is notoriously bad for use on the

Where is "Tools Resize" feature in Internet Explorer 11 (F12 Developer Tools)?
Please tell me I'm missing something...
In previous versions of the F12 Developer Tools for Internet Explorer, I could easily resize the browser window to a specific size (e.g. 1024x768).
However, after upgrading to IE11, I cannot find this feature.Hi,
you can create full resolution screen shots and scale them in your web pages by using only the width rule of 100% to the containing block element.

I use ifranview to capture screen shots and resize and compress the image to my requirements.
If latency or client screen size is an issue I will create two images... a thumbnail and a full screen image and use the design pattern above to link to the full resolution image in a new window.
or for HTML5/CSS 3 aware browsers use the CSS flexGrid with media queries.

.swf files dont open in Internet Explorer!
Well the topic summary says it all.
It seems that everytime I try to open a webpage with a .swf
extension (ex.

it just shows a white screen with that little symbol (the one with
the triangle, the circle and the square) in the top left corner.
Its really annoying.

Browsers don't normally open swf files directly, they are
supposed to load through an html header. Many people put swfs on
their
WebPages without the html even though they shouldn't so you
need to set your file associations so that your browser is told to
open
swf files. If you run windows..
Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)
Tools..
Folder Options..
File Types..
Scroll down to SWF
In the lower box it says what SWFs are supposed to open with.
If it doesn't say Internet Explorer or Firebox or (your browser)
then
you need to click on the 'change' button and select your
browser from the list. Turn on the check mark for "always open
with..."
If it already says your browser name then the browser might
have it's security settings set too high to view the swf files. (or
JavaScript turned off)

Problem with jinitiator in my internet explorer
I am using Forms and Reports 10g and Database 10g. Installed both successfully.
When i try to run a form(even Test.fmb) , it is not working in internet explorer.... i still could not understand the problem. But, i noticed one thing... either, JInitiator is not installed or it is not invoking automatically when i run the forms... this is the problem.. can someone help me on this please?I am using Forms and Reports 10g and Database 10g.

Keep in mind that to run a form from the forms builder (including test form) you must start the OC4J instance.

Within Internet Explorer you can click on a little arrow next to the homepage icon and a dropdown appears with a list of your homepages (I have 5). So if I want to quickly check my facebook or e-mail I can click on it and then on whichever I want to visit (both are homepages). It is much quicker than using bookmarks/typing it in and I don't like the 'permanent tab' feature as I don't want them always open. Does this feature already exist?
You can create a folder with the home pages by using "Bookmark All Tabs" to open a specific page.
You can place that folder on the bookmarks toolbar or use the Bookmarks menu button that you can find in the toolbar palette to get access to that folder easily.
* Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* "Bookmark All Tabs" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.
* "Bookmark This Page" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of that browser page.
