Blank screen rather than error message

I've written some pages using htp which I am using rather than htmldb and calling using the format http://location:port/htmldb/pkg_test.test and this is working well but if there is an error all I get is a white screen rather than anything helpful.
Are the errors written to a log somewhere or is it possible to show an error page displaying the error? I'm just testing on my own so I don't need to worry about what a user would see.
Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,
I have a few points here ...
1) You could use a generic exception handler for all procedures that are called directly via url, like this:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE test_error IS
   l_i   NUMBER;
BEGIN
   -- should raise ORA-01476: divisor is equal to zero
   l_i := 1 / 0;
EXCEPTION
   WHEN OTHERS THEN
      HTP.p (SQLERRM);
END;
/2) Aside from that you should be able to see the error messages when raising the log level:
Re: http error log
3) Also, when testing the htp/htf output, you might use Raptor ( http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html ), owa output is displayed there as well. Whow, early adopter release 3 is available!!!
4) In addition to that you might even use sqlplus to output the result of your stored procedures like this:
set serveroutput on
begin
    owa.init_cgi_env( 0, owa.cgi_var_name, owa.cgi_var_val );
    htp.p('hello world');
    owa_util.showpage;
end;
/Please be aware that you can only access the web context in scenario 1) and 2). I mean access to the CGI - environment like owa_util.get_cgi_env('REMOTE_USER');
Well, in 3) and 4) it is still possible to set the environment manually ;).
Hope that helps,
~Dietmar.

  • Blue screen of death - Error message included

    I have searched on the forum and found nothing exactly like my situation.  I am running Labview 7.1 in a test bay through the NI chassis with an embedded controller.  The system basically reads up to 100 RTD, and 224 pressure readings and then writes them to a network computer.  Every so often, we get the "blue screen of death" when running the program.  Sometimes there are problems with the network computer, so there is am option inside the program to send all the data to the local hardrive.  This is basically how we check to see if the problem is related to the network, or if it is the Labview system.  However, the network has never been the cause of the blue screen of death(since we have also received the blue screen while writing to the local hardrive).  Furthermore, the system only gives the blue screen ever so often, not all the time.  The error message is attached, and seems to be memory related.  I should also mention that we run two labview program at the same time, one controls a series of valves, and the other displays all the data be recorded the the network computer.  After about 10 reboots, as a desperate attempt, we only ran the valve program, and it seemed to work, but it may just be luck.  Another attempt was and option in windows(XP) called "paging" which we turned off.  Last I know the system was working, but under the above mentioned conditions which will not work for day to day testing.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Photos are there but the videos are appearing as blank icons with an error message after the upgrade to Yosemite

    I bought myself a new MacBook Pro and migrated everything from a Time Capsule/Time Machine migration.  My previous computer was slowly dying so I had backed it up although it was running Mavericks.  I migrated everything to the new computer from a Time Machine backup - all my photos and files are there - but in iPhoto, the videos (taken with a camera as .MOV files which usually appear in iPhoto) are appearing as blank icons.  When I click on them, I get the error message, "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)" and the video doesn't play or appear.  The video does, however, appear when I click on "Reveal in Finder - Original File" - so the files are there - they just aren't being compatible with my iPhoto in Yosemite.
    Any idea why?

    Do you still have access to the old system? If so drag the iPHtoo library on the new system to the desktop and Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Laptop will not boot, stops at Toshiba screen then an error message. Can't access BIOS

    I receive the following error message:
    For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.2.7(11/02/10)
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
    No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
    Before it first shut down, there was some blue screen with a message I was unable to read in time. I turned it back on and got the above message. I have done some research and it sounds like some kind of hard drive problem. I've checked the hard drive connection and it's fine, the same message appears. I also saw that you can access BIOS(not sure what this is exactly, I've never used it) and then somehow recover, reset or change a boot setting that may have changed by itself. I can't access it though. I have tried F8, I have tried pressing escape as soon as the red Toshiba screen comes on, and also tried holding it and releasing when the tone sounds, then pressing F1 but all I get is a tone and no screen.
    It's about to be finals week and I really need some help getting this fixed...preferrebly without having to by a new hard drive because all kinds of homework, papers and study info is on this computer. I haven't even had it for two years yet. I can attach a picture of the screen if needed but it's just a black screen with the above message.
    Thanks for any help!
    EDIT: Satellite L655-S5150 and Windows 7
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    It does sound like a hard drive related issue, be it a virus, or physical failure.  If you have fast boot enabled, you will need to hold down F8 while you power up, as just tapping F8 at the BIOS splash screen will not work.  If you are unable to recover that way, hopefully you created recovery media when you first got the laptop(it would have prompted you in the action center).
    If that was not done, you could always swap in a new hdd to get the system up and running, and get a eSATA to USB cable to get all of your info off your old drive.

  • .zip icon is blank white rather than the default Tiger .zip icon.

    Recently I removed StuffIt from my Mac and now when I have a .zip file sitting on my desktop it has a generic white icon rather than the default .zip icon (which I seem to remember was white with a zip through the middle).
    I was wondering if there is way of getting .zip files associated with that icon once more. I realise this is a pretty minor issue, but I'd like to be able to fix this.
    After searching the discussion pages I came across this page - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=733697&#733697 and a user linked the poster to a page that had a terminal command to fix this issue - unfortunately the link is now dead.
    Many thanks for any help you may have.

    On some occasions, I get a series of hieroglyphics in the top bar on my web browser, rather than "Firefox - Mozilla Firefox". I'm concerned this may be linked to a virus. Should I be concerned?

    If you see CJK (Chinese/Japanese) characters on the Firefox title bar or the Windows Taskbar then that can happen if Firefox switches to UTF-16 encoding for some reason.

  • 20" imac won't restart after rebooting under bootcamp running Windows XP. I get a black DOS screen with an error message.

    My imac has been running without problems under OS X Snow Leopard and bootcamp running Windows XP for a long time. I had received a Sony MP3 player and wanted to install the software on my computer. At the time I had a CD in my drive slot because I was getting ready to install some brother's software for a printer I wanted to use. I restarted my imac under bootcamp and started installing the Sony software in Windows XP. I was having problems with the install  and decided to restart XP to see if that would help. It's been several days since this originally happened so I'm not of sure of any more specifics at this point other than I've had to use windows machines for a long time and know that basically when in doubt "restart".
    When my imac was restarting I heard everything spinning up, the white light came on, but I heard no chime, a blue screen came up for about 15 to 30 sec. and then it went to a black screen with DOS characters giving the following message:
    Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file.
    I do have a copy of Windows XP, but my first problem was that I still had a CD in the slot and it would not eject. I tried every keyboard combination I could find including: eject button, F12 and holding down the mouse button at start-up and nothing worked. I also tried every other start-up keyboard combination I could find at Apple Support jut to see if I could get my imac to start up under OS X . I finally went on youtube to find out how to remove the CD. I ended up opening up my imac and taking off the cover of the CD drive to remove the disk. After putting everything back together I put in my Windows CD and tried restarting again. The exact same thing happened and I ended up at the DOS screen. Then I thought maybe my keyboard wasn't working so I replaced it with a new one. Same result. I also thought to plug both of my apple keyboards into my windows 8 laptop (hate it!) to see if they worked there at all. They both did so I'm sure the keyboards are not the problem.
    At this point, since I do now have a windows 8 laptop (hate it!) there is no remaining reason for me to keep a bootcamp partition on my hard drive. My question is where do I go from here? I have a current time machine back-up on an external hard drive and I have my install CD for OS X Snow Leopard. How do I get my imac back up and running? Thanks.

    Can you OPTION boot? If so, then choose the OS X volume to boot back into OS X. From there you can use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Windows volume and restore the drive.
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
    Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
    Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
          left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
          your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
    If this fails then try this:
    Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Google searches produce no results, only a blank page w 404 error messages

    When turning on computer I can get a search result list, but clicking anywhere leads to blank 404 error page. Future searches do not even produce a search result, just the blank 404. Curiously, the links (when I can get them) can be opened for viewing via the Cool Iris frame. I have 2006 HP w windows XP. Problem occurred week ago after I clicked a Google search link to some PDF green fact sheet (Cal Berkeley) which was preceded by a large 75% screen grey box which could NOT be shut. I tried control panel & document search features to locate & remove, unsuccessfully. However, hours later that box finally disappeared, but I haven't been able to use Google since?!
