Block level changes on linux when a datafile is reduced by resize

Hi All,
Does anyone know what happens at the block level on Linux when an oracle datafile has its size reduced. For instance, if I have a 6gb datafile with has had the extents written to but the current HWM is 2gb and i then reduce this datafile size from 6gb to 2gb. On the file system the file is resized to 2gb but what actually happens to the blocks on the OS? The reason I am asking is because I am running Linux on vmware and the vmware file is replicated at the block level. How much additional data would be replicated if I reduced the datafile with a resize. Would it replicate the 4gb difference, or is only the end of the datafile changing and if so are only a few blocks changing. Oracle seems to reduce the file size quickly so I am assuming it is not changing many blocks. Any ideas?
cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Are your datafiles on ASM? Raw? Filesystem?
I have not tested it, but I suspect that Oracle simply re-writes the extent map, whether that's in ASM, on the raw device, or on the filesystem.

    Hi all
    i have six fields and when-validate-item trigger is working on block level, i want to display records in one field,i want when-validate-item trigger work on item level not on block level,any help will be greatly appreciated.
    here is the code.
    When-Validate-Item Trigger.
    declare
         Str_Space VARCHAR2(20);
    begin
    Str_Space := ' ';
    :ins1.ref := :ins1.branch || Str_Space || :ins1.class || Str_Space || :ins1.year || Str_Space || :ins1.serial || Str_Space || :ins1.cno || Str_Space || :ins1.edno;
    end;

    Francois Degrelle.
    just look the following code.
    DECLARE
         Str_Space VARCHAR2(20);
    begin
         Str_Space := ' ';
    :ins1.ref := :ins1.branch || Str_Space || :ins1.class || Str_Space || :ins1.year || Str_Space || :ins1.serial || Str_Space || :ins1.cno || Str_Space || :ins1.edno;
    END;
    by using the above code i am passing branch,class,year,serial,cno and edno to Ref column( 1 G01 2009 13112 00 01). and Str_space variable is creating space for each item.i want the above code work at item leavel instead of block level.Is it poassibl?

  • Clear IDOC creation when only header level changes are made ME22N.

    Hi All,
    when the PO is  on changed in the header level only(for example header texts and header code)  and when we execute RSNAST00 one BADI getts triggered which checks if the Item category is 9 and  badi will clear the IDOC creation.
      If the PO item category is = 9, the IDOC must not be created. This badi works fine if the changes are made at
    1)at Item level
    2)both header level and Item level
    In case of 1 and 2 we have both header segment E1EDK01 and item segments E1EDP01.As a result it checks for the item category in the item segment.so idoc is not created.
    3)BADI is not working when the changes are made at the header level only. The IDOC is getting created even though the PO has the item category as 9.
    I found in this case only header segments are availble while debugging and the item segments are not there to check the condition for the item category.
    Please any one can suggest me possible solutions to  clear idoc creation when only header level changes are made ME22N.
    The BADI used is as below.
      DATA : lwa_data TYPE edidd.
      DATA : lw_dp01 TYPE e1edp01.
      DATA : lwa_control TYPE edidc.
      CHECK idoc_control-rcvprn = '3PL' AND idoc_control-idoctp = 'ORDERS05'.
      LOOP AT idoc_data INTO lwa_data.
        IF lwa_data-segnam = 'E1EDP01'.
          lw_dp01 = lwa_data-sdata.
          IF lw_dp01-pstyp = '9'.
            CLEAR create_idoc.
          ENDIF.
        ENDIF.
      ENDLOOP.
    ENDMETHO
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi all,
    Is there  any way that I can get the item category details when Only header level changes are made to the PO in ME22N and only header segments are available in the IDOC.
    Is this possible:- Fetch the po number and item category details from ekpo table that matches with  the header segment po number and then check for item category value  to clear the idoc creation?
    Any information is helpfull.

  • Is there any way to block PR changes when PO exists in project builder

    Dear All,
    Could you please advice...is there any way to block PR changes (quantity,price, etc) when PO exists in project builder ?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Nies

    Hi Nies,
    If you are not using the material then you can go for Validation, under Operative Structure> Network> Validation.
    Attach the validation with OPSA click on Automatic.
    In the second scenario if you are using Material Component, as Mr.Muralidharan said OPSG there you can restrict the change by selecting Error Message.
    1. Tcode OPSG in Setting see all the object are selected.
    2. Click on Component tab under change in Purchase Order Exist tab select Error.

  • Why does my block diagram change when I copy my code to another system?

    I am doing development work on a laptop on Win XP and using LabVIEW 2009 with service pack 1. When I copy the code to the target system, my block diagrams are changed and no longer fit the screen. Much of the code is spread out, mainly down. The target system is running Windows 7 and also has LabVIEW 2009, SP 1.
    I notice that any constants that are clusters are expanded when copying the code to the other system. I've gone in and turned off the autosizing for these clusters but they are still expanded. I like to shrink them to a small size for saving space.
    I've gone through and manually re-adjusted the block diagram on the target system, but when I copy it back to my development laptop, the same thing happens again. This is not an acceptable way to develop code and it has caused a real problem to proceed. I'm contracting this work and must develop this code offsite. Can anyone please help me with this? I can't keep restructuring my block diagrams every time I copy the code from one system to the other.

    Windows XP used Tahoma size 8 as its basic system font.  When MS came up with Vista, they changed it to Segoe size 9.  I'm not sure what Win 7 is, but I think it is the same as Vista.  That font change, and certainly font size change seems to be the underlying cause for block diagrams changing their appearance.  (And for front panel controls and labels as well.)
    LV seems to use the Windows system font as its default font.  Interestingly, it seems like the font sizes in LV are something like size 12, 13, 14, 15.  I think a size 9 is equivalent to a size 15, but I'm not sure about the comparisons.  (Check out this thread.)
    There are a few things you can do to try to make one system look more like the other.
    1.  Go into the Windows screen settings. In Vista, right click desktop, Personalize.  Window color and appearance.  Open classic appearance properties.  Try changing the color scheme from Windows Aero, to something like Windows Classic or Windows standard.  They both use Tahoma 8.
    2.  Or same as Step 1, but go further into Advanced button.  Pick on any option that uses font such as Menu, Message Box, Active or Inactive Title Bar and change the font there.  I'm not sure which of the items that has a font setting is the key one.
    3.  LV uses 3 fonts called Application, System, and Dialog.  I think each of those map to one of those Windows options, but I'm not sure which goes to which.
    4.  In LV, Tools/Options/Environment has a subsection called Fonts.   Those 3 basic LV fonts are selectable there.  There is also a checkbox for me which is checked and says to use default.  If you uncheck that checkbox, a Font Style button becomes enabled.  You go in there and you can choose fonts and sizes.  And the Application, System, and Dialog fonts as well as all the usual fonts names (Arial, MS Sans Serif, Greek, ....) are selectable along with fonts sizes.  Play around in there.  The whole section is very confusing, and I have no idea how it works.  I recommend going to this idea A better way to specify (default) fonts and putting in a vote.   Also this idea, Fix font behavior between windows versions, platforms & executables, deserves some love.
    5. Some of these settings can also show up in your LabVIEW.ini file.
    FPFont = "0" 15
    BDFont = "0" 13  (I think the "0" means app font, "1" means system font, and "2" means dialog font)
    Also,
    appFont="Tahoma" 13
    systemFont="Tahoma" 13
    dialogFont="Tahoma" 13
    (And if necessary, put these in your built application's .ini file)
    As you can see, there are a lot of different things going on and they also seem to conflict with each other.  I starting stumbling on the block diagram issue between working on my app on XP at work and on my Vista machine at home about 6 months ago.  I think my problem actually started with the front panel when I was trying to align labels, and use some arrow head decals on boolean buttons.  I think I did the customization of buttons in a couple different ways (because I did some, came back later to do others, and couldn't remember exactly how I did it.)  As a result some decals looked different than others when I changed machines.  And I swear going from XP to Vista, or Vista to XP the problem got both worse ways rather than let's say larger one way, and smaller the other way.
    Replying to your message is about as much to me trying to combine all the pieces of knowledge I've stumbled across over the past months and year as it is for trying to help you.  Hopefully, this information gives you some places you can look at and play with.  (I bet #1, would be a quick, easy way to solve your immediate problem, but I haven't really tried it myself to be sure.)
    I hope someone from NI who has a better understanding than me about these font issues could jump in and correct any mistakes I made, or add anything I might have left out.  What we really need is some sort of "nugget" or National Instruments white paper that really explains all of this in ways we can use rather than us stumbling around in the dark doing things trial and error to figure it out.  Generally, any changes to the .ini files require you to shutdown LV and restart it to take effect which can take a couple minutes.  And considering all the various combinations of things that can be done above, your talking about dozens of possible restarts, and sending .vi's between two different PC's with two different operating systems, before figuring these things out.

  • ProRes and level change when I play

    I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but when I capture at any of the ProRes settings, (proxy, LT, or 422) there is a level change between the footage parked and when it is playing. I thought it was the Gamma correction Auto/none setting, but that doesn't make any difference. I'm capturing from a Panasonic HD1400 via firewire. When I capture at DVCPro HD there is no shift. Thanks in advance for any help.

    I'm not making any critical judgements of the footage this way, I just don't want it to change so drastically while I'm editing, particularly when DVCPRO HD doesn't do this. I guess one choice (from the school of Dr. it hurts when I do this...) would be just to continue editing in DVCPRO HD, but I wanted to be able to use the ProRes proxy for rough cuts, as OfflineRT looks really bad.

  • Level change when adding audio keyframes

    Hi all,
    I've been in Avid Land for the last few months and just came back and noticed something that was getting on my nerves when I left (I don't recall seeing this before FCP 6). When I add keyframes to my audio levels with the pen tool, I get a keyframe, but at the same time, it lowers my level as if I had added a keyframe and then dragged it down. As far as I can tell it does this every time.
    Does anyone know what this is about?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    I was having this problem, so just before I composed this reply I did some tests. It could well be 'sloppy mouse work' but I don't think so. This time the audio level went up by 1 db but before it was dropping by 1 db when adding a keyframe. During the test, no matter how accurate I was the audio level changed when adding a keyframe. The track I was working on was enlarge somewhat and the problem didn't happen on standard sized tracks. I feel that this has to be some sort of bug.
    I have always found FCP a little bit on the 'accurate' side. You have to be very precise when clicking on items otherwise you will miss. Some buttons are way too small and I think Apple could improve the FCP workflow by enlarging some buttons and allowing more space around clickable items.
    A good example of this is the 3 way colour corrector. The left and right buttons for blacks/mids/whites are very hard to hit and I quite often hit the maximum by mistake.
    I have worked on many non-linear systems and FCP is the only one where mouse accuracy is so important.
    I am, to some extent used to this now and I suppose it is a minor inconvenience in comparison to the benefits of using FCP but, in the interests of improvement and ease of use it would be good if Apple could take this onboard.
    Weenie.

  • When OS level changes ??

    hi guys,
    When Operating system level changes from Unix to solaris. What are the places
    in Custom programs/BW has to be considered for change settings.
    for eg : File path or Calling External program or external applications.
    I want listings of places where i have to check for the changes to be adapted to work as same as Unix system.
    Basically i want to know the places where changes will occur in BW  system with respect to SAP R3 4.6C system level.

  • Automatic reorder level change when executing it twice

    Hi,
    When I create forecasting view I only fill the forecast model “automatic” and selection procedure “2”, after the first run some additional settings are fill by the system (model selection, optimization level, alpha factor, delta factor)  and if I run forecast again the values (reorder level) change from the first forecast value. Regading to this when executing in mass mode should i do it twice in order to get a more accurate forecast value or should I fulfill more values in forecast view and obtain the same reorder level even if a excute it twice.
    Thanks

  • Change visual_attribute on current item at block level

    Hello everybody.
    Is there anyway to apply visual_attribute on current item at block level ? Explanation: i have block with a lot of items, so it's really hard to create many POST-TEXT-ITEM triggers on every item and apply visual_attribute on it...
    Thx in advance.

    Hi,
    You can set the visual attribute using the following as per your requirement:
    This is for item instance
    Set_Item_Instance_Property( 'Your item', CURRENT_RECORD, VISUAL_ATTRIBUTE,'Custom_attribute'); for item
    Set_Item_Property( 'Your item', VISUAL_ATTRIBUTE,'Custom_attribute'); regards

    Hi Gurus,
    I've posted few days ago an issue I got while recreating my Dataguard.
    The Main issue was while duplicating target from active database I got this errors during the recovery process.
    The Restore Process Went fine, RMAN Copied the Datafiles very well, but stop when at the moment to start the recovery process from the auxiliary db
    Yesterday I took one last try,
    I follow same procedure, the one described in all Oracle Docs, Google and so on ... it's not a secret I guess.
    The I got the same issue, same errors.
    I read soemthing about archivelogs, and the Block corruption and so on, I've tried so many things (register the log... etc etc ), and than I read something about "catalog the logfile)
    and that's waht I did.
    But I was just connect to the target db.

  • Windows could not start block level backup engine service

    Hello,
                  Im
     trying to perform system state backup for one of the server its unable to run. Last week we have performed the system state backup without any issue.
    Operating System:2008
    OS Version: R2 Small Business Server 2011 x64 Edition Build 7600
    RAM-32 GB
    Following event ID is reported in the logs;
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Backup
    Date:          7/2/2013 2:25:35 PM
    Event ID:      754
    Task Category: None
    Level:         Information
    Keywords:
    User:          SYSTEM
    Computer:      ABC
    The Block Level Backup Engine service has stopped.
    When we try to restart the Block Level Backup Engine service we get error as “Windows could not start the Block Level Backup Engine Service on Local Computer.
    Error 0x800700b7: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.”
    I have already restarted Virtual disk and Volume shadow copy service, but no luck.
    Any help in resolving this issue will be much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Keshava

    All,
    Here is the solution which worked for me ;
    Services.msc >properties page of Block Level Backup Service Engine
    Changed to Log On tab
    Instead of Log On as Local System Account changed to Log On as
    [email protected] (select the account with admin creds), entered the password of admin and closed the properties page.
    Now restart the Block Level Backup Service Engine and re-run the job, backup completes without any issue.
    Thank you

  • DMR level change at UD vs lot creation

    Hi,
         Can someone in simple English give me the business reason to have Q level change at lot creation level and at UD level. In what cases would one use either of them ? I have read the help and know how to configure in the system but need the business reason to chose one or the other. Please dont send me the link to help or to past posts which speak about how to create DMR rules in the system.
    Thanks
    GS

    No matter which one you pick, you can have issues.  It's picking the lessor of two evils.
    The issue comes in when you have the potential of having more than one inspection lot active at a time that uses quality levels and dynamic modifications.
    For "at lot creation" when you create a lot the quality level is checked and modified according to the established rules to the next "postition" or stage if you want.  It ASSUMES the lot just created will pass.  In this case if the lot fails, you have to manually fix the quality level after a fail.  If another lot comes in before you maually fix it, it could be skipped or reduced testing.
    For "at UD" the quality level is updated when UD is made.  In this case when a lot is created before the UD is made on a previous lot, the quality level is still at the same level as the previous lot.  As a result the new lot will be created at a level which maybe it shouldn't be.  Which could be wrong if the UD fails or passes on the previous lot.  In this case, the failure at UD on the first lot will reset the quality level and the next lot created should be at the right level, but the inbetween lot might not have been.
    Follow that?

  • Trace level changed

    Dear Experts,
    I have an RFC function which contains a submit report to execute in background. Normally our system has trace level = '0' in SM50, but everytime when this job runs, the trace level changes to '2', which saved too many logs in our system.
    can anybody tell me how to prevent this situation? Can I force trace level = '0'?
    Thanks!
    Joanne Wu

    Hi Joanne,
    We just came across this trace level change.  Did you find a reason and/or solution as to why this happened.  We are researching as I write this and just came across Note 987134 which may offer insite.  However, this note talks of Kernel 4.6D, 6.0 and 7.0.  We are running on 4.6D_EXT for another month and this note says nothing about this kernel.  Hope you have an anwser.  Thanks.
