Blog summary missing photo problem - solution?

Has anyone figured out why iWeb 08 is not showing photos on the blog summary page (home or main page) despite having Show photos checked?
Photos show up on the entries pages but not the *blog summary* pages.

I figured it out -
At some point, when I first created a new blog entries page, apparently, I deleted the default entries photo (I think it was a snowboarder?). Well, you need to keep the photos from all the templates that have functionality. This entries photo is key to preserving the summary page images (apparently).
So to fix it, you have to create a new entries page then drag a photo onto the default template photo for an entry.
Caveat: I don't know if this action was the cause (I don't think so) or other changes I made around the same time but, now the images for the search entry, RSS Subscribe, and Go to Archive are missing. Ugh.

  • Blogs with missing photos

Using iWeb 1.1.1., my Blog entries typically include several photos. Increasingly I am finding that over time some of the photos on my Blog entries disappear, i.e., I now have an empty photo rectangle where I used to have a photo. All Blog photos were brought in from iPhoto and are resident on the same computer as my iWeb Domain. I also have many Photos pages on my site and I've noticed that the same photos that are disappearing from my Blogs are fine on the Photos pages.
I bring photos into my Blog entries through the Media Browser, but in two different ways. 1. Using Command drag so that the photos will be inline. 2. Simply dragging, so photos will be fixed. Only inline photos disappear.
I would greatly appreciate any advice about how to solve/avoid this problem.

    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1GB RAM/80 GB Drive

This happened to me. There were three things that caused it...
    1. I had reduced the size of the blog description lines (in the Inspector I had told it to display two lines instead of three or four for the description, I think) and there wasn't enough "room" for the picture to show up beside the 1 or 2 line blog entry. So, I just told it to expand it back to three or four line description length. Pictures all showed up again.
    2. The pictures also 'disappeared' when the actual text box for the entire blog entry page wasn't "big" enough to display all the entries, PLUS their pictures.
I fiddled about adjusting the size of the particular box on the page (turn on the layout in the menu so you can see the gridlines) - just expanded the box and voila, there were the pictures and their corresponding entries.
    3. Also, when I replaced the default picture that shows up in the entry page, I didn't drag my own photo into the box to actually replace it, so I deleted the original default picture out. Now I had my replacement picture show up, but it didn't "kick in" in the Blog description page. I've found that the picture you want to show up must REPLACE the original that iWeb places there, or else it seems to not display in the Blog page.
Don't know if this helps you, but they were the three culprits when it happened to me.
    Rachel.

  • My iWeb's main blog page has photos of entries all mixed up

My site is egsilberman.com and all but the main blog page is functioning.  The index.html looks perfect, the page listing all the blog pages using the index.html in the browser looks as it should.
But after uploading the site to my FTP - using iWeb SEO Tool - the main landing page of the blog has all the photos, except the most recent entry, mixed up.  The blog entries are in order, listed according to date, but the photos associated with the entries - the key photos shown on the main blog page - are all goofed up: randomly placed throughout the entries.
Oddly, all the blog pages are functioning fine.  It's just the main blog landing photos that're off.
On the iWeb side I've reloaded everything from scratch...trashed caches, plists, etc, but it doesn't seem to be the problem.  Again, the index.html site and blog (main page) are all in order. I'm not an expert by any means, so the change in the blog is confounding me.  It was working fine until earlier this week.
Is it the SEO uploader?  My FTP/host?  Something I could do to help?  I do not know what to do.  Any advice or direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks for considering this question.
    Evan

Roddy, thank you for many things.
Firstly, for your clear direction in encouraging me to upload my site AFTER SEO'ing it using a dedicated FTP. I used Cyberduck.  Then, following the line of thinking that the index.html needed to be uploaded as well, I did that.  Simple as it sounds it took a bit of courage on my part.
This got my blog summary page photos back in line with their individual entries.
Bigger still was seeing that the index.html file I uploaded made a /Site/ reference to the "Site" folder that's local on my desktop but not present in my server's folder.  And seeing this in the browser address bar, I altered the text of the index.html by eliminating the /Site.  Cyberduck offered ways to do this.  I pushed save.
Cedric at http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Folder_FTP.html has a helpful step by step on using FTP and Cyberduck.  I followed his instruction as I went.
As tiny as this is to those of you who know the workings of your sites, it, for me, is like looking under the hood of a car and being ABLE to fix it. Not something I normally do.  Maybe it'll break down in a mile.  But for now it's fixed, and humming along.
I'm looking now toward getting an optimization app.  If I'm correct, and I follow your publishing workflow path, Roddy, http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Website-Publishing-Wo rkflow.html, I will, after optimizing, then upload again to my server - using the post-optimized folder as the final source of feeding the server.  Then you list other steps - uploading new sitemaps to all the major search engines - I purchase Rage's Sitemap Automater - will use that for that.
There is a methodical flow to all this, and I will learn it and implement it.  Leaving MobileMe and moving to FTP and FTP practices was a leap.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • IWeb 08 photos/blog not showing online + "Blog Summary Widget" error

    Hello,
I recently upgraded my iLife to 08 and am having trouble with iWeb on two accounts.
    1. My blog doesn't display online correctly, and instead I get the "Blog Summary Widget" error.
    2. Any new albums do not display the photos.
In both cases I cannot see my menu at the top but get a black dot instead.
I have updated to 2.0.4 in iWeb but this hasn't solved anything.
I have tried rebuilding the blog but that doesn't work either.
At this point I have simply put a message on my blog saying it's down, but need to find a problem.
Any solutions? I haven't foung one on here yet.
    Thanks.

Did you restart your Mac after running the updates?
Are you publishing to a server other than MobileMe? If so, the missing navigation menu is usually due to the feed.xml file not being uploaded.

I don't seen any problem. Perhaps it is just your local browser cache? Try clearing your cache and using another browser.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how the pc
    user can form the link?
http://web.mac.com/robruhn should work just fine, unless the person at the other end is mistyping it or something. I would suggest that you get rid of the space in your site name and republish, as that might cause problems for some systems (i.e. change Site 3 to Site3 or Site-3 or Site_3).

  • Photo problems in blog entries...

I am having problems with photos and images displaying in blog entries. I am able to place photos in the text of my blog entries but upon publishing some will display and some won't (in any web browser or system used).
I have tried emptying Safari caches and reloading pages but to no avail. Some photos are still missing (they are displaying as a small question mark when viewed online).
What's worse is that reinserting the photos in iWeb and then republishing will make some of the missing photos appear on my site while others that were displaying okay previously will now be gone.
The result is that many of my blog entries are always missing photos.
Examples of this can be seen by clicking to view the various entries here:
    http://web.mac.com/jtbcmac/iWeb/MaiTai/MontrealTiki/Archive.html
    and here:

I am currently trying to reload things, so pages may or may not look ok when you view them.

    UPDATE:
All seems to be fine now... after making minor changes on each of the affected pages and republishing a couple of times.
But I have a feeling the problem will re-occur... as it has in the past... when I make a new blog entry.

  • Getting photos to show properly in your iWeb Blog Summary?

    Hi,
I'm trying to create an iWeb photo blog, but am having some problems. This is what I have so far: www.nigelivy.com
Basically my plan is to use the "blog home" as my site's actual home and to upload a daily photo. There are two problems that I have faced:
    1. I can't get my photos which I add to each entry to show on the home page in the "Blog Summary".
    2. When I did get the photos to show up, they were blurred. Is there a way of fixing this?
Any help would be appreciated! If anyone can recommend a iWeb blog template for this sort of site, please let me know...
    Many thanks,
    Nigel

When you use the image placeholder in a blogpage, the image is displayed in the summary.
When you delete that placeholder and simply drop an image on the page, that image won't be displayed.
Tiny details that make iWeb so interesting to use for some and confusing for others.

  • Synchronize Folder problem - LR finds missing photos that aren't missing

    A bit of background:
I decided to dive in and clean up a big 40K catalog I have. This involved:
    Moving images around
    Creating new folders
    Renaming existing folders
    Renaming all photos
All of this was done within LR to avoid problems. But now, everything is working fine, LR does not complain that there are missing photos EXCEPT when I try to synchronize a folder.
The strange this is there is no question mark on the images and when I use the Find Missing Photos, LR tells me that there are no missing photos.
But when I try to synchronize a folder (any), it finds all the images as new images and suggests to remove the missing photos (both matching the exact number of images). Obviously I don't want to do that and loose my edits...
I found some information here, it seems to be an old bug but no solutions work for me... I really don't want to go back and redo all this work. Is there a magic trick?
    Thanks!

Thanks but this a completely different problem. You are referring to the "Treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separated photos" setting that I have unchecked purposely and I do not shoot RAW + Jpeg anyways.
Your issue is a normal behavior. LR assumes that Jpeg+RAW shooters will only required the RAW to be imported in LR unless you change that setting.
My problem was a very specific instance where the volume name did not match case with the folder names in LR. As soon as I fixed that, it went back to normal.

  • Blog summary widget problem

I am getting reports that some users cannot load my iWeb '08 site. I have looked into it and not everyone is affected the same. In safari it's fine but in firefox on a mac it only loads a partial page with a js error. On a windows pc it's a crap-shoot as to if it will load or not. I can get my pc to load it with ie 7 but others cannot. Searching the forums and google I can see that I am not the only one with this problem.
It seems that the "Blog Summary Widget" is the error. I have tried everything including File / Publish All
    How can I fix this?

  • Photos are Missing messages Problem constantly showing up

I screwed up. I had iPhoto link to my photos on my hard drive rather then importing/embedding them into the iPhoto library but then I believe I reorganized all my original folders (merging, file renaming etc.). So that is one reason I am getting missing photo messages. I thought iPhoto would automatically track the originals but that was probably a wrong assumption.
Not sure how to find/mark which photos are all missing and reconnect them to where they are located now and how to fix it so I don't get the messages. I have to go through around 300 "Can't Find Photo dialogs" if I accidently click on a orphaned photo (thumbnail without a photo).
I have made some changes to some photos in iPhoto and I would prefer not to lose those changes. I don't want to lose my Current Albums and Books and Slideshows etc. But I'm guessing I need to backup and re-import all my photos again in a new library but that cause me to lose my meta-data (Albums, Phtot Changes, Slideshows etc.)
I tried rebuilding the library but it still prompted me with the "Can't Find Photo Questions" and never really solved the problem.
The reason I didn't embed was I wanted other application to be able access my photos without having to go through the trouble of exporting them first, and also to save space. But I saw a 1TB drive for $370 so maybe space shouldn't be the issue anymore and I have iPhoto Library Manager so there should be no problem with having my library on a different drive then the pictures folder on the HD.
It would be sure nice if most Apple applications (Final Cut Studio for example)could select from the iPhoto or Arpeture (I was thinking of buying) library.
Anyway any suggestion on how to fix my orphaned photos without losing all my changes?
    Dave

I just noticed it as well out of the blue. Could have sworn that it always worked and suddenly stopped without any updates or anything.
The "right click-paste" function of a jpeg is not working in apple mail. You can drag and drop a picture into the email, or "right click-copy image" and "command -v" it into the body of the email and see the picture but "right click-paste" only produces the "box with the blue question mark". This is only happening in mail as far as I know, in .pages "right click-paste" works just fine.

  • Problem with iWeb SEO breaking iWeb blogs (Blog Summary Widget error).

As as happened to many others, my blog was broken. The only thing that showed up when publishing was "Blog Summary Widget", no actual blog.
I came on here and searched, uninstalled with apzapper, deleted preferences before that, tried everything.
    Still the problem.
Then I notice my blog works. I'm excited. I move on in my post iweb part of the process (iWeb SEO and dreamweaver edits) to then see it's broken again.
After some testing (changing 1 file at a time, one step at a time) I found that when iWeb SEO touched the home.html (where my blog is) it broke it.
This is a new phenomenon as I was doing this all the time before with no problem.
I even tried updating to the latest version of iWeb SEO and the same problem.
So if you're having this problem, and are using iWeb SEO, try it without and see if you still have the same problem.

I'm getting the same problem too. I've just updated my iWeb from 1 to 2. I've had to more or less re-create my Blog from scratch as the upgrade wrecked the summary and recent items pages (probably because I'd use jTemplate).
So I created a new Site, dragged the old blog over to it and created a brand new one in my proper site. I then copied all my formatting over AND all the entries. All looks fine in iWeb, but I see the same error messages as described here. Take a look here : http://www.andrewmay.biz/test/
Obviously I've moved a lot of stuff around from the normal White template, and deleted a few things too, but I would have hoped that iWeb wouldn't let me trash things that then broke it.

  • Photos not showing up on Blog Summary

I've added photos during blog entries. I've only done three entries; however, only one photo is showing up in the blog summary, why aren't the other two? www.runmichaelrun.net

Michael ~ Make sure you drag your photo to the Placeholder in the blog entry. If you drag a photo to an empty area in the blog entry, the +Blog Summary+ won't recognize and display it.

  • Photos in Blog Summary Not Appearing

    Here's my site:
    http://www.msadesign.com/msadesign/Blog/Blog.html
Notice that there are no images in the Blog Summary. This is really confounding. The image in the summary should be the same image that is ion the top of the blog post.
Here's a post as an example:
    http://www.msadesign.com/msadesign/Blog/Entries/2010/6/3A_Xeric_DemonstrationGarden.html
I've tried changing the type of placement, but I do not know what else to try.
    Anyone had this issue?
    Michael

That's what I thought, too, but since all of the posts are without the image, I'm thinking it must be something else.
or you may not set blog summary to display the entry image place holder.
in iweb, in blog summary page... click on the entry excerpt and you get a HUD, you can select different Placement display (upper left, and a small downward triangle to the side).
iweb generates iweb:image element in the blog-main.xml (rss file), that in turn; it is used by blog summary widget to render the preview image in blog summary.
I'm hoping that you'll provide a translation here? Sounds like something I can fix?
btw, your blog-main.xml does not have any iweb:image element.
Ditto. It is the image element that is missing but how is it replaced?
the image place holder in blog entries tell iweb to generate the code or you didn't set the correct placement as I mentioned above.

  • Missing Photos and other problem

iphoto had 3900 picture displayed the other day. The next day there were only 2500. I had a simalar problem last spring so I did a rebuild on the library after I saved a copy. I then wound up with 3500 photos. 400 still missing. I noticed there were out of order date wise and when I checked recently imported photos (jan 2006) they were in the iphoto libtary but now in the year 2000 folder folder instead. I haven't gone through every folder yet to find the other missing photos but what caused this problem? Can I fix it without going through every folder?
Next which I believe is a related issue to the above. My computer will not always go fully to sleep. Monitor turns off computer still running. Or Computer wil not wake up from sleep mode. Next, I tried to run disk utility and verify disk permissions. It stopped stating "Disk Utility has lost connection with the Disk Management tool and cannot continue. Quit and relaunch". I did this several times but the same error message keeps coming up. What do I need to do to resolve this mess? Do I have a virus? A drive that is about to crash? (I have the lastest update for iPhoto 5.)
    G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Why not just have Lightroom locate the top-level missing folder(s)?
If you are in folder panels, they should show a question mark. Right click on the question mark and locate the folder. If all of the folders are in an upper level folder that you can't see  you can show it by right clicking on the folder and selecting "Show Parent Folder"

  • Problems with "find nearby missing photos", not working like it should in LR4

After I imported photos into LR4 I decided to split the event within the same folder creating 2 subfolders and proceeded to move the files within the finder. Went to LR4 and synchronized the folder but it didn't fix the file location on the missing files. So I tried finding individual files and checked the "Find nearby missing photos" but this doesn't seem to work like it did in LR3, because it won't find any nearby missing files even though they are right there new to each other in the same folder.
I don't want to dremove them and re-import because I have added ratings and I fear I would loose this info if I did that...

Your assumption that you would loose your ratings and develop settings is correct, if you would re-import.
Reimporting is never a good idea.
For the rest you have two alternatives: either you reconnect one image after another, or you undo on OS level what you did in the first place, then execute the move inside LR.
Depending on how many images you moved this could actually be the fastest route out.
"Find nearby missing photos" did not work reliably for me either in LR3. I have never found out when it did and when not, so I have preferred to learn how to perform any such operation inside LR.
Another valid question is why you do not use collections for your desired split , and leave the folders as they were.
According to my prejudice MAC users would not be as conservative in sticking to folder structures as Windows users..;-))
Once you master LR folders could be very unimportant storage buckets, as every angle for organizing your images would be covered by (smart) collections and keywords and other metadata.
    Good luck, Cornelia
