Blue screen when trying to connect ipod

When trying to connect my ipod to my computer it reboots it into a blue screen that looks something like this...
STOP: 000000007F (0000000008, 0X80154000 etc, etc.)
minidump something something.
I looked in my minidump folder but there was nothing in it. Any suggestions?

Okay.
Let's see if we can get a minidump generated for the crash.
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
With those settings in place, does a minidump file get generated for the crash?

  • Windows Blue Screen - when trying to re-sync an IPOD after doing 5 R's

My windows based Itunes failed to recognize my ipod, so I trouble shooted and finally ended up doing the 5 R's.
This resulted in a "Blank Ipod" (after restore).
I was able to successfully get Itunes to recognize my ipod after the restore. That is when a "major problem" occurred.
When my 37 gigs of MP3s on my PC attempt to automatically update onto my "blank ipod", my system crashes giving me the dreaded windows BLUE SCREEN! The error messgae indicates that a physical memory dump occurred and the system shuts down.
I figure it has something to do with all of those gigs trying to update onto the ipod. SO, I start to manually transfer (drag and drop) about 100 mp3s at a time onto the ipod within itunes. It still crashed after the 3rd batch of 100 mp3s.
Has anyone experienced this? Does it have anything to do with Mirosoft's newest IE vunerability? I use Firefox usually, but sometimes HAVE to use IE. What can I do?
    This really *****.
    thanks for your help.

    hi zeppy!
hmmmmmm. a 0x7E? that's not the most commonly reported BSOD code here.
but the MS KB seemed to have at least one clue for us.
    (1) sometimes people can get blue screens when they plug in an ipod if their FireWire, USB, or dock has gone bad. i see from that STOP message resource that the 0x7E can be associated with dodgy USB.
by way of tracking down that possibility, do you still get the BSOD if you connect to a different port? (or, if you've got a dock, connect directly to a port instead?)
    (2) on general principles, we'd better check for malware. download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and spyware scans. if your security software providers offer online scans, run those as well. (they can sometimes pick up an infection in cases where the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
    (3) especially if you've recently installed any new hardware on your PC, head into Device Manager to check to see if there's any alert/warning messages showing up next to any of your devices. if you see any, what do they say?
    (4) let's also let's also capture a minidump of the crash and send it to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence for the Apple engineers to analyze.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
And then send it to a Discussions Host. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.

  • Re: Satellite C660-1LD Blue screen whilst trying to connect to the internet

I've been having a lot of trouble with trying to get my laptop to connect to the internet, when I was attempting to troubleshoot it, the blue screen appeared and it shut down, I didn't have enough time to read all of the information so I'm not really sure why it appeared. The laptop restarted and still couldn't connect to our wireless network, I tried numerous system restores which couldn't complete even though I tried it after I deactivated my AVG protection.
Eventually it connected and I was able to go on the internet for a short period of time with a very temperamental connection, it then disconnected again after about 15 minutes, I struggled to get it to connect again but when I eventually did the connection seemed fine and didn't drop.
I shut it down and when I turned it back on I had the same problem again, it wouldn't connect, the troubleshooter couldn't fix the problem, although a few times it identified the problem as a "problem with the wireless adapter". I tried everything I could think of, more system restores, re-installing the "network adapters" under the device manager, changing the power options to maximum for the wireless adapter and checking the the computer doesn't turn it off the save power, removing all wireless networks and then trying to reconnect to them. After about 2 hours I managed to get it to connect again after rebooting it in safe mode and the connection is fine now.
However I'm worried that I'm going to have this issue every time I turn my laptop on to go on the internet. I'm also very concerned about the "blue screen" that came up, it hasn't happened again and that was the first time I've ever seen one and I've been told by friends that its pretty severe and is known as the "blue screen of death". I don't know if this is anything to worry about or whether it was just a one off? Is it possible that my laptop could have some sort of virus or bug? Or a possible hardware problem? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm fairly certain that this is a problem with my laptop and not the wireless network as I can access the internet on my iPhone and the internet is working perfectly on all of my housemate's laptops.
    Thank you

No its the original OS that I bought it with, its only the wireless connection that it seems to struggle with, it seems to be working fine since I had the issue with the blue screen, and when I had that issue I tried it with other wireless networks and it still wouldn't connect to any of them.
Since then a few times its struggled to connect at first but has in the end, I'm concerned that something inside the laptop could have gone wrong being the reason for the blue screen and the dodgy connection to the internet as I've never had any hint of a problem with it before. My laptop is just over a year old and I do use it a lot and regularly take it out and about when I go to University and travel to and from my hometown, so could it be its just wearing out? As I once got told laptops don't have a particularly long life if you are always moving them and travelling with them.
    Thanks!

When the system goes down,I have to shut pc down from the power button and when I switch my laptop on I receive an error stating that "system has recovered from a serious error " which has signature of:

    C:\DOCUME~1FATIHF~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERffa3.dir00\sysdata.xml
What I have done regarding to try to solve the problem ,but not worked at all:
1-I have uninstalled Itunes ultimate version(iTunes 9.0.3 for Windows XP,Vista or Windows 7) and other Apple related components on my Laptop(apple application support,Apple mobile device support,Apple Software Support,Quicktime etc.)
2- a-I re-installed all components mentioned on step 1 and plugged my Ipod: It works when I plug for first time, then I sync with my audio,art-work folders. Then I unplug my Ipod to listen music and see my Art-work,when I plug my Ipod for 2nd time to my Laptop,it crashes and that same blue screen error occurs.
b- I uninstalled all Apple components and plugged my Ipod to my Laptop,it charges the battery but no blue screen occurs.
3- I reset my Ipod and meanwhile uninstall all Apple components again(exactly like in 1st step) in my laptop, then I re-install all components to my laptop, and follow the same steps as exactly in 2nd step.I plug my Ipod and it works for first time, than I do sync through Itunes again, than I unplug and use my Ipod, when I plug for 2nd time than the same blue screen error appears and laptop crashes.
4- a- I reset my Ipod and Meanwhile uninstalled all Apple components,I re-installed iTunes 8.2.1 for Windows XP,Vista or Windows 7) but the same blue screen occurs.
b- I uninstall iTunes and plugged my Ipod to my laptop,no blue screen occurs.
5- I asked my colleague who has MacBook and plug my Ipod to her MacBook, than open Itunes, but Itunes(iTunes 9.0.3 for Mac OS x) can not see my Ipod as device and I am not able to do anything.
6- I've searched in Apple official websites and Google and many Blogger sites,Fan sites and all other possible technical sites but could not find any solution.
7- I've contacted(phone call) to the Local(Portugal) Support Apple Support Centre and explained all history of the problem clearly. But they could not help me,they advised the same possible solutions which I've already done and they said that they can not do more. And than they gave me a support mail address to contact.([email protected])
8- I've sent an email to [email protected], 2 days later they've answered me with the information that they are phone based support therefore they not provide me support.
Basically I am not able to import or export anything to/from my ipod, anyway all windows is going down.
It is first time I buy Apple product. My friends who have Apple products were generally positive about them, and I was thinking to by a MacBook as well, but after this problem I got doubts and I am not satisfied and happy at all. Since days I am trying to find solutions and find the exact support contacts to get helped with this problem. But could not reach any information. Now I don't have any positive Idea about Apple products or support service.I went to the Techno-Market which I bought the Ipod to change with an Iphone or at least try to have my money back if not possible to swap it with Iphone, but they've told me that it has been more than 15 days and they can not swap it or refund it,even if it was possible they would not refund it because the very sensitive backside of Ipod has some small but visible scratches.
Anyway I can see the difficulty of having Apple product, having support of product and finding the right contacts to communicate is not easy and I would really be very happy if anyone could change this idea of mine with helping me out to use my Ipod with peace and without any other problem.
As you can see,I spent a lot of money to buy it and spent days to find solution to my problem and spent a lot of energy to find right Apple Support contacts to help me with my problem. And I am not able to use my product as I wish.
Please advise me regarding to solve my problem. I hate to deal with courts and other legal ways to take action in those kind of cases. But if not of course it will be my last option to do it so.
I am waiting an answer, please try to answer me as soon as you have an answer for me.
    Thanks In advance
    Best Regards
PS:If you provide me an email address which I can send all print screens and full blue screen error message .txt I'll contact you soon after receiving your contact.

uncheck the music in itunes and resync to delete her music from your ipod
then create another account using everything the same except change your email address from a ".com" to ".net"
like me, I have an ipod touch and my mom has a shuffle, she doesn't like using credit cards online
so we use mine for both accounts but with [email protected] as mine and [email protected] as hers
that way we can both use the credit card and on the same pc but with different passwords too

  • IMovie 09 - get blue screen when trying to import from camera

I have used previous versions of iMovie without incident. Today when I tried to import some footage from my Sony TRV950 via firewire, all I get is a blue screen with the counter rolling but no import.
I can see the footage playing on my camera.
My camera is listed as DV-VCR (DV) in the import window.
    Any tips?

I had the same issue with the blue screen. To resolve it I quit imovie and unplugged firewire cable. Started imovie the plugged in firewire. Created a new event, went to import, clicked play, selected add to event( the one I just created)
and it started playing and imported fine.
    Hope that helps

  • Satellite C650 - Blue screen when trying to install XP

    Hey,
For some kind of werid reason my win 7 just disappeard, and now I am trying to install Xp.
And suddenly, when the installation is right about to start, I get blue screen.
Do anybody know why I get blue screen, and a possible solution to this problem.
PS: The XP cd is not bought from Toshiba

    ok,
go to bios, and find advanced settings, then 3rd from the top is about your Sata/IDE. Change this settings from SATA to ide, and then no more blue screen. I had the same problem when I wanted to change system.
Unfortunately this complication is too slow to run WIN 7, win7 i would suspect needs at least 2GB of RAM to run system on good level. Standard 1GB is not enough. Also processor is damn slow... On XP everything works perfect.
    Cheers

  • Blue Screen When Trying To Install Leopard

    Hi
So I've just picked up this old iBook G4 for next to nothing. I popped in a new 512MB RAM stick and a 20GB HDD to see if I could get it up and running.
My friend gave me his old Leopard install DVD, so I booted it up and formatted the drive to Apples spec. I then began the installation.
The machine began to check the disk integrity, which was taking quite a while. I went to check on it and it had frozen at 21% (the mouse wouldn't move), so I turned the machine off.
Following some information on the internet I booted into Single User mode (CMD-S) and ran 'fsck -f'. Upon rebooting my machine now displays the Apple logo, spinning wheel and then goes to a blue screen where it hangs. I have read here that it could be an issue with a chip overheating. I find this hard to believe in my case because I can leave the machine running in single user terminal without any freezes. (I have been running fsck a few times to test this).
    Any ideas?
EDIT: Just did a verbose boot - the only error message that jumped out was ''no interface name for airport.." which came up twice. Does this help?
    Thanks a lot

When it freezes up like that, the first thing to try is a force-quit. Hold down the Command + Option keys and then press the escape key. If this works, a box will pop up which will allow you to quit applications which are not responding.
If a force-quit doesn't work, you can do a hard shutdown by holding down the power button for five to ten seconds. Then try to start up using Safe Mode. This takes quite a lot longer than a regular startup because it does a check and repair of the hard drive. If this works, you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say? If it says the drive is failing, it definitely needs to be replaced (but even if it doesn't say so, this could still be the problem).
When my hard drive in my MacBook failed, there was no restarting it in any way, and no recovering of anything on it.
    Good luck.

  • I/O error when trying to connect iPod to PC

I'm having issues with iTunes / iPod because every time I've tried to connect it to my PC it says the folder has been moved and it not accesible, and this is due to an I/O error. I've tried uninstalling the programme and then re-installing the latest version of iTunes which downloads fine but as soon as I try to connect my iPod to it the same thing happens. Could this be due to the USB cable I'm using (it is the actual iPod cable) or is it iTunes or my iPod? Anyone have any advice for me please? :s

  • IMac will only safe boot (blue screen when not safe booting).

A buddy asked me to help with his Intel based iMac. It was giving a blue screen when trying to boot up (and an odd cursor along with the blue screen). The cursor moves around the blue screen but looks like two cursors. One cursor is a normal arrow pointer, the second is a rectangle about .25 inch wide and 1 inch tall made up of about 10 horizontal lines.
I'm very familiar with Macs and OS X and was sure it was probably a messed up preference file (most likely login preference). It wasn't.
    Here's the odd circumstances:
I have an intel macbook that if I use firewire target disk mode I can boot just fine off his iMac.
His computer will not boot off my Macbook that is in firewire target disk mode.
We cloned his hard drive to an external firewire hard drive (using Carbon Copy Cloner), my Macbook boots off it just fine, his iMac will not.
He's been wanting to go to Leopard so we upgraded his computer (did basic upgrade), but it still blue screened (with odd cursor).
Then we did an erase and install. Still no difference in behavior.
I would almost be convinced that it's a hardware failure, but it will safe boot every time.
Here's what happened when it died. His son was playing a Star Wars game (I'm not sure which one). The kid was in the middle of the game and paused it when it was time for dinner. When the kid went back to play, the computer was frozen. They tried everything to unfreeze it and ended up powering it down. Started the blue screen ever since.
He's going to contact Apple (it's barely still under it's warranty) but I was hoping someone here has another idea what it could be.

I found this topic while trying to find an answer to my problem. It seems we have a similar thing going on with our imacs (although mine is a much older crt imac). I'll copy and paste my original post from the imac board :
    Hi
I received a free imac snow (G3 500mhz) from someone. He told me it was broke, and someone told him the logic board needed to be replaced.
I brought it home and tried to start it up. It gave the '?' folder icon. I started up from an OS 9.1 cd - Success! Except there was no HD. I opened it up and discovered that the HD wasn't connect to the ATA cable. I was able to start up to a previously installed Tiger. Except once it booted it would quickly freeze - the mouse pointer would turn into a scrambled beach ball (very strange) and wouldn't move.
I did some research and found about the potential problem with OS X and the imac's firmware. I restarted from the 9.1 CD and installed that OS. Everything seemed fine and was running ok (from my limited time on it). I then DL'd the latest firmware for the imac (4.1.9.) and tried to run it. Except the message came up that the latest firmware had already been installed. So i guess thats a good thing. I don't have to worry about firmware being a problem.
So i did a zero out wipe on the HD and installed tiger from the dvd. But on the first restart after installation (where i should go to the set up assistant) I get the scrambled beach ball and it freezes.
I thought perhaps the HD is faulty and ran disk utility on it - it came back as fine. I doubled checked to make sure it was set to 'master'. it sure was. I decided to swap out the HD anyways since i can't see what else could be the problem and put in a different 30gb IDE drive. I once again zeroed out the drive and did a fresh install of tiger. On restart i get the same scrambled beach ball and the freeze.
I guess i should describe the scrambled beach ball. It's seems like the beach ball icon, except the bits that make it up are out of order and glitched out.. perhaps a video problem?
Could this really be a logic board problem? It was working in OS 9.1 fine. It starts up from system CDs and DVDs fine. Wouldn't a logic board exhibit the same problems on those systems?
    Anyone have any idea?
Update - starting in Safe mode (restart with shift held down) works, and i was able to update to the latest version of Tiger, but once i restart with the full system i get the same problem.
This seems to me that it ISN'T a logic board problem, but more of a system software problem. Now my question is how do i isolate and fix the problem in Tiger?
I guess i'll post this question in the Tiger forum, but if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
    Thanks
