Bluetooth application for PDA

Hej!!!
I am a student involved in a project that requires JAVA. I am going to use a HP iPaq 5500 which has windows mobile for pocket pc 2003.
What I want to do on the PDA is:
- scan for bluetooth devices.
- detect them.
- send a file.
I would like to know if anyone has information about this. What are your suggestions?
My first step is start looking at java virtual machine for the PDA. Then I would like to know what is the easiest way to do the software. I have read that it can be easily done by using obex or JSR-82 but I am not familar with this. I would be so grateful if anyone could help me with this. Thank you in advance

Hi ssk
can you clarify exactly what you are doing here as I would agree with you that if a restart is solving the problem currently then some kind of memory buffer prob exists but I'm still not clear how you are changing this "Bluetooth friendly name"
will you attach your code so that I can run it and get a better understanding.
thanks

  • Use RT Communication Wizard to build application for PDA

    Hi,
    I am wondering if the RT Communication Wizard can be used to build the Host, NPL and TCL VIs for PDA touch screen pocket PC model NP 606S.
    I am familiar with using RT Communication Wizard to build RT set of VIs for communication between PC and cFP-2020 field point.
    Now I need to go step further and develop the similar VIs, one VI (NPL along TCL) that will run on the RT Target (my field point) and Host VI that I will compile and run from PDA (NP 606S). I am using cross-over Ethernet cable (TCP communication).
    If this is possible to do, are there any special instructions (rules) to complete the process properly.
    Thanks in advance,
    Peja

    I don't use the RT comm wizard, but after generating a small sample program, my answer would be yes. The RT part is only on the RT side. Programs written using the PDA module use the TCP VIs just like regular programs and I have used them to talk with a FP, so it should work. You should keep in mind that the display on PDAs is limited (no clusters, no arrays and so on). Since, according to this, the NP 606s isn't a PDA, it's possible it will be able to display them (although I doubt it).
    Try to take over the world!

  • Java application for PDA

    Hi,
    Can you recommend which is the best PDA (or graphic tablet) for Java development.
    I need to develop a simple application : a data entry form to be filled in. The form does not really require keyboard input, just options to be ticked.
    I thought this could be developed as a Java Interface.
    I was also considering a graphic tablet for this application because the screen space is bigger.
    I’d be very grateful for any suggestions or tips of what my best options would be.
    Is there a more specialized forum for this subject (I haven’t been able to find one)?
    Thanks very much

    a better question is: which PDA has a decent JVM installed. There are not many. I would consider .NET mobile if I were you, combined with a Windows Mobile 5+ PDA. You'll have far less head aches.

  • How run MSR for PDA through NWDS

    Hi all,
    I'm working with MI 7.0 . I have installed NWDS on my PC and imported MSR.war application for PDA. In my PocketPC emulator I have installed the Client MI, CrEme and DB2e. How can I configure NWDS in order to run MSR in NWDS? What steps or settings I have to do in NWDS? I set in window->preference the MI home folder after having installed MI Client (for Win32) but I don't understand how run the application considering that MSR has to work on PDA. Help me please.
    Many thanks,
    Maria

    I would add a new column to use as an indication that a particular row contains the string in question, then sum the column.
    B3=IF(IFERROR(FIND($B$1, A3), 0)>0, 1, 0)
    select B3 and fill down
    Then sum the results in cell D2 as shown:
    D2=SUM(B)

    How much resources does it take to implement the J2SE? Does a PDA have them?

  • Updating the MIDlet application for all the PDA at once.

    Good day...
    I would like to develop the MIDlet application for my company and i faced the problem as below:
    There will be more than ten PDA will be used in our system. The PDA will place on the Ethernet cradle and this cradle will link to the web server to exchanged information. The MIDlet application will install on all the PDA in the first initial stage. How about if i want to change some coding or recompile my MIDlet application, how i can distribute all this updated MIDlet application to every PDA on the network in the efficient way. This is because i cannot install each one by one since this is waste time.
    Have anyone can suggest the better idea to me how to solved this problem. Beside that, how i can check on my MIDlet on each PDA is outofdate from the one on the server?? And any opinion on the Ethernet cradle I am using in this case?
    At last, if there is possible to update my MIDlet application from time to time, is it this will affect my data stored on the PDA?
    Please advice and kindly reply.
    Thank in advance...
    SL

    Not sure on the PDA but on the Siemens Sl45i that I have, you can upgrade the midlet by pressing a button -- provided that the MIDlet URL is set to where the device can download the updated suite. I have not tried it yet, though.

  • Error message when building an application for Labview PDA

    When using LabView PDA module to build an application for a PDA target, I receive the following message: "Error building executable. Unable to create file". Why is this happening?
    When looking at the error log, it reads "The system cannot find the file specified."
    This happens even when looking at one of the Labview PDA example VI's, so it is not a result of the VI containing functions of features not supported by Labview PDA.
    When installing Labview PDA, I installed files as follows, and in this order:
    (i) Labview 7.1 (installed previously)
    (ii) Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0
    (iii) Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 SP 3.0
    (iv) Microsoft SDK for Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PCs
    (v) Microsoft ActiveSync 3.8
    (vi) NI Labview 7.1 PDA module for PocketPC
    (vii) DAQmx Base 1.0 for PDA or later
    Any ideas?

    Did you attempt to add the _wordsub.llb and _excelsub.llb files to the application as support files?  I believe in LabVIEW 8.0 instead of adding the entire LLBs you should just add the _Word Dynamic VIs.vi and _Excel Dynamic VIs.vi as dynamic VIs.  I think I've seen a similar post on the discussion forums in the past that recommended this.
    If this suggestion doesn't help, please reply, and attach a simple VI and .lvproj file demonstrating the problem so I can investigate further.
    Good luck,

  • What is missing, when I render my Application for Mobile Support, like PDA?

    Hello @ all,
    I have a question about ADF Mobile.
    I implemented a bean, which has a Method:
    getRenderKitId(){
    AdfFacesContext afc = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    Agent agent = afc.getAgent();
    if(Agent.TYPE_PDA.equals(agent.getType().toString()))               return "oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.ui.laf.simple.pda";
    else if(Agent.AGENT_GECKO.equals(agent.getAgentName()))
         return "com.apress.projsf.xul.ajax";
    else if(Agent.AGENT_IE.equals(agent.getAgentName()) &&
    Agent.TYPE_DESKTOP.equals(agent.getType()))
         return "com.apress.projsf.htc.ajax";
    else if(Agent.AGENT_WEBKIT.equals(agent.getAgentName()))
         return "com.apress.projsf.html.ajax";
    else
         return RenderKitFactory.HTML_BASIC_RENDER_KIT;
    When I debug my Application on an PDA, this Method returns the right String for PDAs "oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.ui.laf.simple.pda".
    I also have the public class DynamicRenderKitViewHandler extends ViewHandlerWrapper{
    public String calculateRenderKitId(FacesContext context){
         String renderKitId = super.calculateRenderKitId(context);
         Matcher matcher = DYNAMICRENDER_KIT_ID.matcher(renderKitId);
         if(matcher.matches()){
         String expression = matcher.group(1);
              Application application = context.getApplication();
              ValueBinding binding = application.createValueBinding(expression);
              if(binding.getType(context) == String.class)
                   renderKitId = (String) binding.getValue(context);
              return renderKitId;
    The return Value of this Method is also oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.ui.laf.simple.pda.
    So know my question is, what else do I have to implement, to render my components on a PDA. Because, when i run my Application on a Pocket PC 2003 with Windows CE, the Mobile Internet Browser shows me the same rendering page like it is on the "normal" PC Internet Browser.
    Do I have to work with the ADF Faces Tags, like the <af:commandButton ...>
    because, i don't use these tags.
    The Libraries i have imported are, the adf-faces-api-10_1_3_0_4.jar file and simular the impl-jar.
    Please could anybody help me?

    Hello Jrozier,
    first I wanne thank you for your reply.
    Know my ApplicationBean getRenderKitId Method returns "oracle.adf.core"
    I had wrote a little JSP that looks like the following:

    <afh:html>
    <afh:head>
         <title>Test Page</title>
    </afh:head>
    <afh:body>
    Testing
    </afh:body>
    </afh:html>
    But when I try to run my Application, I get the following error:

  • Create installer for PDA 8.2

    Hi Everyone,
    I've developed a PDA 8.2 application that I need to distribute world wide to
    field technicians for them to install on to PDA's purchased at their locations.
    When building a PDA application, the only file that is created is an exe file which
    will not run on a PDA without the Labview support files installed. Is there a
    way to create a full installer that will install all files required to run a
    PDA application including all of the Labview application files? This
    functionality exists for PC applications.
    Thanks,
    John.

    John:
    The LabVIEW PDA Module only create executables, it cannot create installers. PDA executables and support files are simply files to be transferred to the PDA and do not need to be registered with the OS, thus any installer that can transfer the file in the right directory structure should suffice. No installer applications have officially been tested with the PDA Module, however you may try out a free program called EzSetup. It is a free utility designed to create installation applications for the PocketPC. You may also want to take a look at this knowledgebase, which highlights how to develop and deploy application for Pocket PCs.
    I hope this helps and please let me know if I can help further.

  • Bluetooth drivers for thinkpad x200

    it appears my windows 7 32bit thinkpad x200 has question marks at bluetooth adapters in device manager.
    I have installed the drivers that are available on the website of lenovo producer, but no change is observable.
    The device seems to work well, that is share and access files with android smartphone, and use android's internet, but when it comes to sharing internet with the smartphone, there is no transmission. I wonder if broken drivers could be the cause.

    Hi Gnite,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
    As per the query we understand that you are facing the issue with Bluetooth on your ThinkPad X200.
    Uninstall all the Bluetooth drivers which you have installed in your system, after uninstalling restart the system and download ThinkVantage system update utility from Lenovo support site and install it.
    After installation run the application so that it will search all the required drivers and application for your system.
    Hope this helps!

  • Advice and Internet Software Applications for iBook G3?

    Ok, So I did it late last night, or technically early this morning... I went and bought a Refurbished MacBook - Black 2.0GHz Core Duo with 512mb RAM (in 2x265 sticks which I am replacing with 2x1gb sticks purchased from TigerDirect at the same time) 80gb HDD, Superdrive, Built-in iSight, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and Airport Extreme. Basically the same as the new ones that they are selling except it is only a Core Duo and not Core2 Duo... Will get my AppleCare from LA Company (thanks Ronda for the link, they have great prices) in a month or 2 after testing out the MacBook and making sure I won't need to send it back...
    Anyways, this post is not supposed to be about the bragging of the new laptop (due to arrive Tue or Wed, heh), but about finding some good mac software (hopefully freeware or shareware) to use for internet stuff on my old iBook G3, which I am giving to my roommate to use (he will use his desktop for most of his heavy speed/memory/graphics needs and the ibook as an extra mobile internet tool). Basically, he used to use a mac when he was married (an old power pc with OS9 on it) but once he moved out and got the big D, has used windows XP since then, and has never seen OSX at all I don't think, so he definitely hasn't used it before.
    He mainly likes to browse web sites and use IRC (he uses mIRC) and watches the free streaming videos from sites like Yahoo... He seemed unsure whether he would find use of it (the ibook), but I am thinking it's because he doesn't know how much better it can be with OSX (10.2.8) than OS9...
    So I am asking for help in a way to show some nice simple ways he could work it into his routine (while still using the desktop pc) and have it not be a hassle to "learn" and find programs he wants to use (in comparison to ones he has for windows). Again, this will be for lighter applications because of the 500 MHz speed (has 576mb RAM).
    He (unlike me) does not use Mozilla Firefox and therefore does not use its extentions and themes and other add-ons, but sticks to IE7 (which is crazy), but I think it is more out of laziness to try something new and to have to go and add on the extentions (compared to if they are built-in to the browser). So since I never had much experience using the different web browsers for mac, which ones would be most like IE, I know Firefox is available for macs, are there any that are simple basic, but could have things added on to it or customized more (yes, I know I am describing Firefox)?
    Also, if wanting to use an application for music, but you wanted it to be smaller than the size of iTunes (and not need as much memory while running it), is there one you would say to go for? Any good mac IRC programs (not messenger things but specific to the IRC protocol)? Ones that have additional scripts you can run for them (he is really into that, he uses Excursion 9.5 alot too)?
    I do not want to throw the iBook at him and say here, use it, and walk away, and I also don't want to go and show him every little thing that it does, but want to just find some programs that he might actually use on it right away, and ease himself into using the ibook on a regular basis (I would install everthing for him, and set up all the system preferences and if he actually keeps on using the ibook, I will give him little "lessons" on how to change things, install stuff etc). I threw myself into my ibook as that is what I tend to do with anything electronic and tech like (I am the biggest tech geek around), but I know that alot of others can't do the same and need to slowly learn how to swim in the mac pool, with those floaty arm band things and floating kickboards and all...
    Any advise on how to do this for someone that I know would end up loving the ibook and OSX for more basic stuff, but just needs that gentle nudge in the right direction and the right kind of software to make him feel comfortable using it, would be greatly appreciated.
    And yes, if he doesn't want to use it after that nudge, I will back off and take it back to sell (or just have a 3rd laptop hanging around, but then I will feel like the old lady with an apartment full of laptops -and other lonely tech gear).

    Some people use VLC for watching video, but, in my experience, you are not going to get good streaming video on a 500 MHz iBook.
    Shut down all other applications and maybe even restart the iBook before trying to watch YouTube or whatever. I've not had much success with it. (You are talking about a 5½-year-old computer, after all.)
    I don't even know what IRC is. It sounds like it's a chat client? If so, iChat works great for me. It uses the AIM protocol.
    I would stick with Apple applications. I prefer Safari as my web browser, but Firefox would probably be my second choice. Camino is good. Other browsers out there are iCab, Opera, and OmniWeb, and I may be forgetting some of them. Safari is the one that comes with OS X, and it's my pick over all the others. Once he gets used to tabbed browsing, he will wonder what he ever saw in Explorer (and I was a die-hard Internet Explorer fan, too).
    I know of no better music app for a Mac than iTunes. Just so simple.

  • Application for Engineering Services & Construction

    I would like to know if Ipad can be modified to support construction services for issues of engineering inspections or quality assurance. Thus, applications of Xcel(drawings list, punchlist applications), Adobe writer(specs and drawings review), Primavera/Oracle software(planning status). Camera is needed, when will the model have a camera??

    1) MS says Excel is not planned for the iPad.
    2) Adobe writer will probably not be made for iPad (just my thought) but that does not exclude someone else from writting an app to do it.
    3)Oracle has announced certain products that already are portable device ready being made available on iPad, but I do not know about Primavera. Contact Oracle for more information.
    4) Camera? Just because the iPad doesn't have a camera it doesn't mean it cannot sotre pictures from other devices, theres even an app that lets you use your iphone as a camera and it transfers the picture to the ipad over bluetooth.
    For anything else, please contact the developer of your specific application needs. They are the only ones that can really tell you what is in the planning stages.

  • Building executabe for PDA takes enourmous time or hangs

    I have an application consisting of 30 VIs. The depth of hierarchy is 6 levels and the average size of the single VI is 100kB. The size of my application should not be a problem for the PocketPC?
    The application runs well in the desktop PC and the compiler does not to indicate errors when the execution target is PocketPC2002 or the emulator. However, when I try to build the executable for the PocketPC (Tools->Build for PDA...) everything seems to be ok, VIs are listed and no errors.
    What I am wondering is a looooooong build time. It takes 30 minutes to build this application in 1.6GHz desktop computer. I think it is far too much! I am planning to have an PDA application which might have over 200 VIs - I won't
    even guess how much it takes to build that!
    Does this kind of extreme long build time indicate some kind of problem in the application? When I run this application in PDA (final size of the exe is 2MB) it stops its execution immediately (it should display some analysis results).
    Then I made some minor modifications to the application and now the build process did not end after 2 hours (I restarted).
    I have updated the PDA toolkit to 7.0f1.
    Any experiences of similar behavior?
    thanks,
    Wirer

    I tested with another application which also had a similar hierarchical structure (30 VIs with depth of 6) but VI sizes were much smaller (average of 30kB). To build this application took 'only' two minutes!
    If the size or complexity of the VIs can affect to the build time this dramatically, it would be useful to have some kind of time approximation for the build process before its start. At minimum there should be an information field along the progress bar which indicates the VI under processing. Current 'progress bar' does not give any information of the state of the total progress and if the build takes a long time, a bored developer might think that its stucked.

    You can use Nokia Maps (download the version for the N73 http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291 and Nokia Map Loader from the same page) Just remember to start Nokia Maps on the phone after install before you use Map Loader. It needs to create some folder.
    This will give you access to maps but to get GPS you will need to purchase a GPS receiver such as Nokia LD3W (connects via Bluetooth).
    If you want voice navigation you have to pay for that but you can also try it for free for 3 days. You can access this from the options menu in Nokia Maps.
