Bluetooth mouse & keyboard login problem

When I boot my G4 PowerBook running tiger 10.4.3 I can't type my user name or password - neither my Apple bluetooth mouse or keyboard function.
I have to login using the PowerBook's mouse and keyboard - then once the login is complete my bluetooth mouse and keyboard work fine.
Bluetooth software is Apple ver 1.6.6f22
Firmware is 2.1241
Battery's are new in both devices and I've deleted and re-added the mouse and keyboard.
Thanks in advance -

I've got a similar problem, there are a few others on the message board too.

  • 10.6.3 update problem - bluetooth mouse & keyboard

Unfortunately I have to add myself to the list of people who have regretted updating to 10.6.3. From the moment it restarted both my bluetooth mouse and keyboard were reporting "lost connection" every few seconds. I'd get just enough time to click on something before "connection lost" reappeared.
Tried rebooting a few times - no improvement. No point in delaying, had to wipe clean and restore 10.6.2 from back up. 5 hours to restore and about the same to make new back-up so a day lost, but everything back working perfectly.
Both mouse and keyboard are apple products and have been working fine for 4 years with iMac.
Didn't have time to see if there were any other problems. To be fair, this is the first time, in many years, that an update has gone spectacularly wrong.

I think 10.6.3 caused a lot of USB related mice and keyboard problems. My Microsoft wireless keyboard no longer has any extended function key capability and my Logitech Wireless Trackman Wheel periodically is not recognized at all after a restart. Very irritating. Hopefully Apple will fix this in 10.6.4.

  • Choppy bluetooth mouse/keyboard

    Hi everyone,
I frequently experience choppy bluetooth mouse and keyboard activity. Sometimes repeats keystrokes, and more often will have choppy mouse movements. I am using an Apple Bluetooth keyboard an a microsoft wireless laser mouse (8000). I used both of these on my previous revision mbp (before the video died) and they worked perfectly.
Does anyone have any hints on how to fix this?
    Eric

(Copied from another thread where I have just posted the same):
I'd say it's rather obvious that this is an interference problem:
Bluetooth and WLAN use the same 2.4 GHz band, and the more traffic there is the more likely problems will occur. Therefore, in particular while there is heavy traffic e.g. while using TimeMachine over WLAN or downloading huge files, the mouse movement may become sluggish.
Strangely, I have been using a PC laptop until now with the same configuration without a problem. But with my new iMac, the mouse becomes unusable once there is traffic on the WLAN band (ie there is a delay of up to a second for any movement, and sometimes the mouse curser even moves in erratic directions), and it remains sluggish even if there is none.
For all other having problems here: If you have a recent Mac and a recent router, switching both to the 5 GHz band should solve the problem (at least it does in my case). Unfortunately, I cannot do that because the iPod Touch doesn't support the 5 GHz band.

  • Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, cinema display + Powerbook?

I'm posting this here because it incorporates displays and peripherals as well as the behavior of the PB when all are plugged in...
I have an ADC 23" cinema display that doesn't get used anywhere near enough. I got a 17" Powerbook about a year ago and since them my G5 sits idle most of the time.
I want to put the display to better use by using it with my powerbook at work. I don't want to run two displays - I'd rather just use the big display.
So my question is... if I buy an apple bluetooth pro keyboard and a third party multi-button bluetooth mouse (any suggestions?) as well as a DVI-ADC converter, can I leave the powerbook in clamshell mode?
I want to be able to bring my sleeping powerbook into work with me, plug in the DVI and ethernet cables and hit the spacebar on the wireless keyboard to wake it up. (can you wake a sleeping mac with a bluetooth keyboard?).
Is this possible? Will this setup work? TIA.

Well, parts of your setup will work, and parts won't. The monitor and adc-dvi combination should work out fine, and from what I understand you can keep the powerbook almost completly closed while you use an external display, but you may what to research it a little more. There are a lot of discussions about this in the monitors section. Now, as far as the bluetooth devices waking up the computer, they can, but only after they have been paired. So you could not just walk in and wake the computer up. You would need to open the laptop up, connect the dvi cable, and turn on the blutooth devices and let them pair to the computer. Then you could close the lid. I think the agrument here is whether you can close it all the way and you can get an anwser to that in the monitors section of the forum. In terms of bluetooth mice, I use and highly reccommend radtech mice. They work very well, however their battery life is short and the travelling version is very small. I would highly reccommend rechargeable batteries. Hope I answered most of your questions. -Justin

  • Bluetooth mouse & keyboard driver drop out

Having trouble with mighty mouse and apple bluetooth keyboard dropping out periodicaly, when using windows XP. Track pad & keyboard on MacBook still work ok. Window pops up saying USB device not connected. When looking in bluetooth devices in control panel the bluetooth drivers, keyboard and mouse are missing. After short period everything comes back again. It will do this randomly and not at any specific times, even when the computer is not being used.

    Can anyone help???

  • Bluetooth mouse/keyboard - good to go??

I'm being a bit paranoid, probably, but ...
when you order an iMac with Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, is it supplied ready to roll, with the BT-EDR module pre-installed, or is there something you have to do yourself? On the Store there is no separate box to check for that BT-EDR module, so I'm guessing it's all OK, and that it Just Works??

    From Mac Help in the Finder menu Help;
Setting up a wireless keyboard and mouse
You can set up an Apple wireless keyboard and mouse using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant.
To use the Bluetooth Setup Assistant:
    1. Open System Preferences and click Bluetooth.
    2. Click Devices, and then click Set Up New Device.
    3. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your keyboard or mouse.
For more help using Bluetooth, click the Help button in the bottom right corner of Bluetooth preferences.

  • Solution for MS Bluetooth Mouse 5000 pairing problem

I had a problem with my MS bluetooth mouse 5000 pairing with my MacBook that I thought I should share. When I first bought the mouse, it paired with no problem at all. But after about 2 weeks it disconnected for some unknown reason. Thinking it was a problem with the mouse, I replaced the batteries, and even exchanged it for a new mouse. After going through the Mac bluetooth pairing process and trying out a number of solutions I saw posted on various bluetooth subjects, I could not get it to work - during the pairing process, it came up with various errors indicating that the pairing process failed.
Finally, from another post, I did the following:
    - removed all references to the mouse in the bluetooth list under Open Bluetooth Preferences.
    - I then did a PRAM reset per Apple's suggested procedure (Command-Option-P-R during start up).
Once this completed, I was able to get my mouse to successfully pair with my MacBook.

I had the same problem. The cure is to boot off of the OSX DVD and when it attempts to find a mouse hold down the connect button on the bottom of the mouse. Keep holding it down until OSX recognizes the mouse. It may take a minute or two. After the mouse has been recognized you can exit before the installation requires software to be transferred. Then just select a normal reboot on the exit menu option.

  • Polycom Group 500 - Bluetooth Mouse & Keyboard

    Hi,
We have a customer who has purchased a couple of Polycom Group 500 units with the RTV license which I must say I'm really impressed with. They have requested a couple of bluetooth mouse and keyboard's to use with the units, will any set work or is there
a tried and tested model I should go for?
    Thanks

Thanks Jeff, that's what I suspected as I couldn't find reference to it in the setup guide.
Do you think the chap who wrote this blog was just lucky that his Bluetooth mouse and keyboard worked? http://janzoetemelk.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/unboxing-group-series-500.html
I tried a cheap and cheerful one I had lying around and it didn't work at all.

  • Can anyone recommend a Bluetooth Mouse & keyboard?

    Hi Guys,
I've finally installed Bluetoothand AirPort into my Mac Mini & was wondering if anyone could recommend a mouse & keyboard they're happy with? I'm put off by the hefty price tag on the Apple products!
Many thanks for any help you can give.
    Paul

"One thing is for sure! Do not buy the Apple bluetooth keyboard!"
I couldn't disagree more. I have two Apple BT keyboards which I use with my 17 inch PowerBook, G4 Mac Mini and CoreDuo Mini. The keyboards work perfectly every time.
I even spilled beer into my first BT keyboard back in November, 2003. After submerging the whole unit in the bathtub, flushing it out with distilled water and allowing it to dry thoroughly for two days, the keyboard fired up immediately and it's been working perfectly ever since. How's that for a testimonial!
Bluetooth mice are another matter. I've had too many disconnections and failed pairings with my Apple BT mouse and my MS Intellimouse BT. Of the two, the Apple mouse works better but not by much. Reading through these forums it seems no third party Bluetooth mouse works more reliably than Apple's. Sporadic disconnections seems the Devil's bargain for BT mice on the Mac.

  • Mouse & keyboard input problem.

    Hello there.
I have recently started using a Mac Mini for music live performance.
I am using programs like Ableton Live & Apple's MainStage.
I am experiencing problems with the input coming from the mouse and keyboard. After startup everything works perfectly fine. I am using Apple's Magic Mouse and Apple's wireless bluetooth keyboard now, but I have also experienced the same with a simple cheap usb mouse.
    Let me explain, what happens:
From time to time, the input coming from both the keyboard and the mouse stops. The keyboards is not responding at all. The mouse can move the coursor around, but the buttons are not responding. When I for example move the coursor on an icon in the dock, the name does not pop up, as it would do normally.
From that point my rescue is a restart (hard one) or a screen sharing login from another mac on the network to do a normal restart.
Is anyone experiencing something similar? Any tips to help me out?

We are running Ableton Live for running backtracks.
Here is the part of the log. There is more log about the system startup, if needed.

  • Bluetooth Mouse & Keyboard

    Hi,
I new to the world of macs but so far i'm loving it. There only one problem though, my keyboard and mouse are very jittery almost like its short of signal
To my knowledge the apple mouse and keyboard have a 10 meter range no obsticles but mine are only half a meter away from my computer. i have to almost put my mouse on top of my g5 to make it smooth out.
there isn't much around to interfere with it, i have a wireless network but i think WiFi uses a different frequency range than bluetooth
Please help as this is really annoying when typing and a long row of the same letter appears(keyboard acts like its stuck)

I believe that I know how to fix this problem. I had the same thing with the Toshiba Encore.
Found a guy on youtube that explained it, but I must have forgot to save the link.
Go to "Control Panel" --> "System and Security" --> "System"
Then select "Device Manager," That will open a new window with all your stuff.
    Now expand "Network adapters"
You should see "Broadcom 802.11abgn Wireless SDIO Adapter." Click that and select the "Advanced" tab.
    Now look for "Bluetooth Collaboration"
It will probably be set to "Auto." Select "Disable"
Now your bluetooth hardware will work!

  • JComboBox fails to popup list - mouse/keyboard coordinate problem?

    Have discovered the following phenomenon:
my JComboBox is placed in a hierarchy of panels, the top of which
is packaged via sun.beans.ole.Packager as ActiveX. THe ActiveX'ed
bean is used in an MFC application, which uses the plugin as VM.
The JComboBox failed to popup its selection list when the user
clicked on the popup button or used the appropriate key combination.
I found out, that if the application is resized/moved so that the JComboBox
is not in the upper left quarter of the screen, then it can display its popup list
without problem. Have not investigated on whether the "upper left" corner
also means "including popup bounds", but it seems like it.
Happens only in the plugin, not within regular Java application.
Anyone out there with a similar problem? Or better, a solution?
Have cross-posted to the Plugin group.
And, of course, I am desperate for a solution! (Project release date lurking...)
    Sylvia

    Nubz,
actually I'm still using a standard wired apple keyboard, wt the magic mouse, because the wire goes under my desk, and I was actually considering getting a trackpad. Still since my Yosemite upgrade, I'm having problem after problem, so I'm not sure I will even stay wt Mac. Honestly I've examined any and all solutions, in that support article, but none of them were relevant to my problem.
I did check & repair my Yosemite Disk Permissions using Disk Utility, and although it found only a few things wrong, and none were related to my keyboard, or mouse (most were for my HP printer), repairs seemed to rectify the problem.

  • KVM/MOUSE/KEYBOARD/LAPTOP PROBLEM

Ok, just plugged in my KVM switch. I am using a PS2 p&p keyboars and a Microsoft tracker ball USB mouse that i have connected with a USB to PS2 adapter.
It all works fine when using the shortcuts, swapping between laptop and computer. But when it comes to moving the mouse on my other computer or using the keyboard i get no response at all.
I am at my wits end, after using the Live help and Phoning the company itself running a up a phone bill, they have not resolved the issue.
This is my final hope before chucking the annoying thing out my window.
    Puppiie

I have a similar problem with a mouse that almost works.  My model no is PS2KVM2 Linksys 2-Port KVM Switch.  the mouse is a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical.  It will move the cursor and click, but won't scroll with the wheel.  Nor does my laptop recognize that I have a USB mouse plugged in (and disable the touch pad).  If I plug the mouse directly into the laptop it works fine.  There is no PS2 port on the laptop, but I have to use a PS2 adapter to plug into the KVM switch.
Also, it used to work before I had my laptop restaged and works on my other laptop.  Both laptops are Dell D630s runing Windows XP SP2.  I have downloaded the Microsoft Mouse driver but that didn't help.  Is there a driver for the KVM switch?

  • New Mouse Keyboard Assistant Problem

I bought a Steelseries Ikari mouse. It is mac compatible, and works on my macbook. When I plugged it into my iMac the keyboard assistant came up (it recognized the mouse as a keyboard). On my macbook I just clicked the red cross and carried on using it. On the iMac I absentmindedly clicked "continue" and now the mouse doesn't do anything at all. I followed some other instructions and deleted the com.apple.keyboardtype.plist in /library/preferences but the mouse still does precisely nothing. What do I need to do to get it back working again? It still works fine on my macbook, my other imac 24" aluminium in the office (same as my home computer) and my linux and windows systems. Just not on this imac running 10.5.whatever.
    Thanks.

Yeah I did that. Waiting for a response.
I have some updates. The mouse is still dead when connected to the iMac. It powers up and its lights come on, and system profiler recognizes it and correctly describes it. I zapped PRAM and trashed the keyboard preferences and changed user but it still refuses to move the cursor. The Macbook is on 10.5.8 - same as this imac and it has no problems whatsoever.
I am wondering if there is another plist somewhere that tracks USB devices or keyboard settings? I'd love some advice, I hate twiddling my thumbs waiting when I'm sure there's a fix to be found somewhere...

  • Keyboard - login problems

I have a powerbook G4, running Tiger, with latest install 10.4.6. I am locked out of the computer, and need a solution. (I have also posted this question on the "Using Mac OS X tiger and Powerbook G4 forums).
My young son randomly typed a few keys while I was using MS powerpoint, and the keyboard stopped working properly. (this occurred the day after installing the latest OS X update). The number keys work OK, however, the letter keys on the left of the keyboard didn't do anything, and the ones on the right would result in numbers being displayed (e.g. in MS Word, powerpoint). everything else seemed to be working OK. I restarted the computer in the hopes that it would solve the problem, but on reaching the login screen the same problem persists, and since I cannot type in a password correctly (doh!), it's now impossible to even login.
How can I login, and solve the keyboard problem. It seems to me that the manner in which the problem occurred, seems more software related (?).
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

Ok - solved the problem - num lock (F6) was turned on (never noticed it before, or knew of its function). doh!
