BO 4.0: Hierarchy prompts

Hi,
We are  currently trying to schedule reports using the dsws api.
We have problems with reports containing hierarchy prompt. We are able to retrieve information about the first level can't go any deeper.
The only information we found concerning hierarchy prompts is outdated : http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/businessobjectsxir2sp2/en/en/WS_SDK/wssdk_consumer/doc/wssdk_dg/DevelopingConsumerWebApps54.html
Any suggestion why promptsToBeFilled would always be empty after the first prompt level?
Thank you.

Hello.
Did you find a solution for this?
We have the same issue: promptstoBeFilled is not returned when a report data provider is using UNX universe and exists when report is using UNV universe.
Thank you

  • Hierarchy Prompts in OBIEE 11g

    Hi All,
I have an Issue with Implementing Hierarchy Prompts in OBIEE 11g. I understand that Filters on Hierarchy Prompts can be applied in Selection steps and cannot be viewed in the Physical Query as such. However, what happens is, the Hierarchy prompt only gets applied when the hierarchy is displayed in the report. It is not applied even when it is present in the excluded section. So, it works only when it is displayed in the report. Is this correct? Is there any workaround for this?
Any help on this would be much appreciated
    Regards,
    Venkatesh

If the column set to prompt no matters what (column is present,or not, excluded or hidden) the prompt should work.
Check it again something might gone wrong.
If it is helpful, please mark as correct or helpful

  • Problem on a table with hierarchy prompt

    Hi experts,
I have an unusual error when I'm using hierarchy prompt.
I make an analysis that it has two hierarchycal columns (One of this is to show on rows of my table, another is to get filter when I choose options with hierarchycal dashboard prompt)
    My table looks like this:
    +Level1
    ...+Level1.1
    ...+Level1.2
    +Level2
    ...+Level2.1
    etc.
If I drill down by Level1.1, it's drilldown fine and it shows childs of Level1.1, now comes my issue... With Level1.1 Opened (seeing childs of level 1.1), if I click to drilldown level1.2 I have an error:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Error Details
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 96002] Essbase Error: Syntax error in input MDX query on line 8 at token 'filter' (HY000)
So...My problem exists when I want to drilldown with diferent ways.
If I delete hierarchycal column that is prompted in my dashboard...I can drill down perfectly... but I can't to delete this hierarchycal column because my customer needs that hierarchycal prompt.
    Anybody can help me???
    Thanks!

    Sure,
Can u send a test mail to this user id

  • Hierarchy Prompt In 11g

How can I pass values from Hierarchy prompt to report?
If I do not want to use Hierarchy in report.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
For your requirement, you need to go for Selection steps pane in the analysis. Click on steps link and then add the hierarchy column that you want to use and expand the hierarchy to the lowest level. Now select all these and all the attributes will now appear in the other side.
If you dont expand the hierarchy to the lowest level, then only the top values will be appeared in your selection at prompt.
Also make sure to check the override option, this helps in filtering the values.
    Cheers,
    Obul

  • How to use Hierarchy Prompt

    Hi all,
I want to filter my request based on the value chosen from a hierarchy prompt. I know that a filter on a hierarchy prompt can be applied in selection step by selecting "Override with Prompt". However, the hierarchy prompt filter only seems to be applied as long as the hierarchy object is displayed in the request itself. Even when moving the hierarchy to the Excluded section, the filter is no longer applied.
In my case it really is useless to expect the user to select a value from the hierarchy prompt and then again display the value they've just chosen in the report.
Is this expected behavior? Is there any workaround?

    Hi,
We faced same issue in our previous project. I dont remember if we retained the same.
It is really a problem as we can't assign a presentation variable also to Hierarchy prompt.
Try this: Place the hierarchy column in prompt section of your view. You can apply master detail event from the prompt to report. Hide the view prompt(If you click on the drop down, you will have the option called hidden).

  • OBIEE Issue with Hierarchy Prompt

    Hi,
I am using a Hierarchy Prompt to select a member from a Hierarchy column whose members come from a essbase cube.
I set a presentation variable *"Select_Cliente"* to the prompt and set the filter to a column like "Gen3,Cliente - Default is equal to / is in *@{Select_Cliente}*"
The issue occurs when someone enter to the dashboard and select a member in the Hierarchy Prompt and clicks in "Apply". The Analysis shows the following error:
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. The problem is that the selected member is filter with a lot of caracters that not apply. The selected member is underlined.
The version of the OBIEE is 11.1.1.6.9.
    Thanks for the help.

Switch the filter in the criteria part of the target report into Advanced SQL Filter, then type your filter with that kind of syntax : "Period"."Period - Default" = '@{var_per}{P3}' and it should work
P.S. if you want to have multiple elements in the prompt selection, then use instead this syntax : "Period"."Period - Default" IN (@{var_per}['@']{'P3'})

  • No data returned when optional hierarchy prompt is filled in.

    Hi,
I have created a query in Query Designer with an optional hierarchy node variable on Profit Center in the characteristic restrictions.
When I create my report in Crystal, the prompt on Profit Center arise with the option Set To Null marked on. When I keep this option marked, I get the correct data.
But when I enter a Profit Center node into the prompt, I receive no data, even when the entered data exists in the database.
What do I have to enter in a hierarchy prompt? I've tried with the key, the name, the node ID, the parent node ID...
Are there any special options or things I have to focus on in query designer or CR to get this thing working?
    Lieven

    Hi,
what i was trying to say -run the query in sql developer or whatever ide u r using.
If u get data for both null and value entered then check in database expert(in reports) if there is any link..
I hope u got the right meaning previously.

  • Limit prompt by value for an hierarchy prompt.

    Hi All,
I have Two Hierarchy column prompts in the dashboard prompt.
    My requirement is,
According to the value selected from the first hierarchy , second hierarchy values should be restricted or limited.
    Thanks,
    Haree.

    Hi RG,
Thanks for your response. *'Limit Vaulues By' -> All prompts* is possible for dimension columns.
whether it is applicable for hierarchy column?
My requirement is only for hierarchy column in dashboard prompts.
    Thanks,
    Haree.

  • Pass hierarchy dashboard prompt to analysis in Oracle BI

    Hi All,
I am new to Oracle BI EE 11g. Right now i am learning this.
I have created time hierarchy dashboard prompt and saved it my shared folder.
I have created a analysis which shows Top 10 products Revenue and saved it my shared folder.
Now I am trying to connect the above two items in my dashboard. But I don't know how to pass hierarchy prompt values to my analysis. There is no option to drop hierarchy dimension in analysis filter and mark it as "is prompted".
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks
    Maya

Well Haree, your idea don't activate filter
My BI version is Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.6.0
I've checked that hierarchy column value from Time hierarchy selected via filter on dashboard A can be sent through Go URL
to new report B opened in new window, but BI don't suppport including hierarchy column in filter section of target report B.
So, other words, I've faced already 3 weeks against the same issue.
User select in Dashboard A subset of Time hierarchy along with common filters say Supplier, but it is not possible to drill through Supplier to its Customers with keeping
selected dimensions of Time hierarchy, say couple of selected weeks of September, in new target Report B.
And I wonder why BI allow pass hierarchy column value in Go URL but don't give to use its value in navigated report.
May be it's tiime to set Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 ?
    Any advices greately appreciated

  • Hierarchy dashboard prompt

In the OBIEE 11.1.1.6, I make use of default RPD named 'SampleAppLite.rpd', and I created dashboard prompt for 'Product Hierarchy', however, in the request, there is no hierarchy, only has some columns, such as 'Brand','LOD'
My issue is that the created request does not be impacted by dashboard prompt, is there any missing steps? Thanks.
Note, need it have product hierarchy in request?
the Hierarchy prompt only gets applied when the hierarchy is displayed in the report. It is not applied even when it is present in the excluded section , Is it correct?

  • Assertion failure error while using hierarchy column in 11.1.1.7.1

    Hi all,
I have done In-place upgrade of OBIEE from 11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.7. Afterthat installed 11.1.1.7.1 patchset also.
Dashboard prompts were created by using hierarchy column. While applying hierarchy prompt i am getting below error
    Assertion failure: levels.size() > start_pos at line 843 of project/weblayoutbuilder/viewlayoutbuilderutil.cpp
      Error Details
    Error Codes: ACIOA5LN
Some times presentation services will restarted automatically.
Kindly give a solution regarding this.
    Thanks in advance

  • Last value in hierarchy of Dynamic parameters is not working in BO CMC

I have a crystal report with dynamic parameters up to 4 levels (Hierarchy of 4 levels) that is developed on version 12.3.0.601 which is working fine on my system... But when the same was uploaded on Business Objects Central Management Console version is 3.1x first 3 hierarchies are populating fine but when comes to 4th hierarchy I am only getting the values that are linked to First Value of 2nd hierarchy.
    Example:
If I take the example of the organization following is the hierarchy.
    1st : business head  // One Value
    2nd : Project head  // 4 values (p1,p2,p3,p4)
    3rd : Team head     // 1 value
4th:  developer       // 2 values for every project head  that means total of 8 values.
If 2nd hierarchy is p1,p2,p3,p4 then I am getting only 2 values of P1, In the same way if 2nd hierachy is p2,p1,p3,p4 then I am getting only 2 values that is of P2... but in real I need to total of 8 values because of all 4 parameters are selected at run time in 2nd level of hierarchy.
I have tried all possible combinations of dynamic paramters but nothing was working for me...
Problem is only in Business Objects CMC where the dynamic parameter is prompt is wrong in dev system everything is correct.
Experts please help me in this.. I hope I have explained it clear... If not please let me know will provide more information.
    Thanks for your time.

" there are more than 170 similar list of values as _1, _2..._170"
That's what happens when you build your prompts in the report and chose "update the repository" every time you save it to BO.
For the future, you have a couple of options for initially creating dynamic prompts:
    1.  Create them directly in the BVM (all of the various pieces...)
    2.  Create them in Crystal, publish them to the repository only the first time you save the report, and then use the BVM for any maintenance.
    3.  Create a "dummy" report that just has in it the data you need for a single dynamic prompt.  Then create a dynamic parameter in the report based on that prompt.  Save it to your favorites folder, making sure that you update the repository so that the LOV gets created.  Again, use the BVM for any maintenance. (My personal favorite way to do these...)
For options 2 and 3, a _DC will be created each time you update the repository.  However, best practice is to have a single "common" _DC for each database you connect to.  So, after saving the LOV you would then open the BVM, modify the _DF so that is points to the correct "common" _DC and then delete the new _DC.
What I would do in your current situation depends on how many reports you have that access the same type of dynamic parameter.  If you have one or just a few reports using this same 4-level hierarchy prompts, I would do the following:
    1.  Delete all but the first set of BVM objects for the LOV (the ones without any numbers on the end).
    2.  Edit this set of BVM objects so that it has all of the information you're looking for.
    3.  Edit each report and set the dynamic parameter to point to this single LOV.
If you have more reports than you can comfortable edit right now, I would still modify the first set of BVM objects to set them up as the common LOV.  Then you can do this:
    1.  As you edit each report, log on to the repository (on the File menu or in the Repository Explorer).
    2.  Edit the parameter and determine which set of objects it's pointing to.
    3.  Point the parameter to the common LOV.
    4.  Open the BVM and delete the set of objects that you found in step 2.

  • Drill down Report with Prompts

I need to create a simple dashboard report in OBIEE analytics, which takes user inputs ( prompts )  for a YEAR , STATE ( & hierarchy) and displays Population
State Hierarchy is ---> State -- City --Zip code
    Format of report is simple
    User Input    ( Section 1 )
    Year =  Year123   (  Mandatory)
    State = State 1  ( Optional )is
City = City1 ( Optional )    ( State will be  mandatory as this drop down gets populated from State value
Population Report  ( This should be initial view with a given Year input and any othe optional ones )                        Section 2
    Sate
    Population
         +State 1
    323222
         +State 2
    4343434
And drill down on State should be feasible
Questions & Issues I am facing
1  Do i have to create a dimensional hierarchy  Column at Presentation layer to enbale drill down  . I have the related data  in 2 dimension tables ( Time  &  Region ) and the relation in Population Fact table
2 )  If yes , how do i pass  user prompts to this report ... I was able to do using selection step  for the state ..But not able to pass the City and Year
3 ) Year is not part of Report Display ..but an input ..How do i use the prompt for it .
i was able to get the report in simple table format ( no drill down ) , with prompts using isPrompted ..But i am lost with the Dimensional Hierarchy + Prompt .
4 )Is Dimensional Hierarchy needed for Drill Down  ? How do i pass all the user inputs ( as above )  to it
Please suggest if there is any alternative

The problem is with drill down . We need two types of drill down action link . One for 'All' to show all values and another is for 'Y','N' values. I can use go url for this scenario however, I am using chart and the column is a measure, I cannot make the data type html otherwise chart will be blank. I cannot use condition in the first drill down as it does not show 'All' values from union. only 'Y','N' .

  • ODIOBIEE lineage set up

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to implement the lineage set up between ODI and OBIEE.
    Software used for this is,
    ODI 10g(10.1.3.4),
    OBIEE 10g(10.1.3.4.2)
    JDK 1.6.
    Windows 7 environment.
For the first time while implementing the setup, I have created lineage reports in dashboard page.
Due to some internal problems means I don't know how exactly it came with OBIEE(what it is "Access denied for the dashboard, please contact your administrator to see the dasboard), then I have uninstalled the OBIEE and install it in another drive in my local machine.
From then, I am not able to proceed with "*Exporting the OBIEE Web Catalog Report to a Text File*" step.
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/odi/10g/10135/obi-odi_lineage/obi-odi_lineage.htm
The above is the link used for the set up.
Can anyone help me in this please....
    Regards,
    Sahadeva.

    Hi Ayush Ganeriwal ,
Thx for your reply on this. I am getting any errors with lineage set up. The thing is in one of the step i.e Importing the Web Catalog Requests we first do archive for the back up files, then unarchive step. Here OBIEE catalog manager would automatically create the ODI folder which contains some reports. These reports could be used for checking the runtime stats, lineage hierarchy, prompt lineage etc..
For me OBIEE is not creating any ODI back up files using the catalog manager.
This is what I am looking for. So please suggest me in what way I can come across with this step.
Problem occurred: There are two drives in my PC. For the first time we installed the OBIEE software in D drive. With out uninstalling the software we deleted from D drive. Later we installed the OBIEE in C drive. For the very first time I created the ODI back up files but not the second time.
Hope you will be understanding the situation. Suggest me here please.
    Thx,
    Sahadeva.

  • Prompt Hierarchy in BO WEBI Report

    Hi,
currently we have to implement a functionality in BO WEBI report Prompt where Network and Equipment 2 prompt  fields
    are present.
User want if they select a Network then the Equipment that belong to that selected Network should shown in Drop Down Values
    of Equipment Prompt.
This is a type of Prompt Hierarchy.
Source for the WEBi Report is BW Bex Query. and there is no Hierarchy maintained in Network and Equipment at Bex and
    Bw system as well.
Please let me know how can i achieve this.
    we are Using SAP-BI4.0 solution.
    Regards
    Atul

    Hi Atul,
You can achieve this by dragging these two fields in the filter bar section of the webi. then apply variables on these fields.
    hope it helps
