Bold option, at least for main layer names

I realize it may not be simple, but it would be so helpful in complex docs with many layers and sublayers to have the option of putting some in bold, especially the top/main layers. I have over 250 layers in a complex map doc, all sorted in sublayers with styles, etc., but when I open a layer (even with a 30" screen) it becomes a challenge to find my place. A simple bold main layer would really help.

I can agree with this. I will add to this the suggestion to color entire layer names rather than just the tiny colored area we get now.

Script for using layer name in Save for Web command

I am using the Save for Web command (Illustrator CS2) to export layers to CSS so that each layer is saved as a different jpg. The only issue I have is that I want the layer name to be part of the file name, but layer name is not an option when I look at the "Edit Output settings" dialog for saving files. Is there anyway I can do this? I do not have experience writing or working with scripts.
For example. My fiel name is flower.ai. I will have 20 different layers (each containing a different color of the same image) and want the exported file to be flower-scarlet.jpg, flower-cranberry,jpg, etc. Right now I am looking at renaming all the files manually, but as I am creating 40 images per product on my website, this will be very time consuming.

Btw.. to make it work for JPGs, change the PNG options to the following:

Script for adding layer name to artboard as text

I've found scripts that are sort of close but not quite this.
I have 1 artboard and many layers (see image).
Does anyone have a script that will take the name of the layer, ie "01_Intro" and create and then place the text "01_Intro" on to the art board in layer 01_Intro? Then it would repeat the process for all the present layers?

Is there a script for changing layer names in ID CS4?

I have multiple documents with an average of 20 layers in each. Each of the layers is named for the expiration date of the coupon in the ads. When a new order comes in I retrieve the previous files and change the dates via scripts and the Find/Change option. I have looked but cannot find a way to rename the dates in the layers as well.
Does anyone know of a script for this?

What font did Adobe use for the Layer names and context bar (OSX PS CS1)?

I have a problem with my Snow Leopard install. When I disabled the font protection of OSX, to install the full Helvetica Neue set (not just the limited DFont set in OSX), I damaged something. All text in Photoshop CS1 that is used in the input fields of the context bar, and for the names of layers, paths etc is wrong. As text is too big now, the program is harder to use.
What font is normally used in these locations? I need to know what files to put back.

Things change.
Adobe changes things that don't really need changing so they can call it a new .0 version and sell it for a bunch of money. They also change things to follow modern trends in UI design.
Sometimes, they want to push other tools to do some of the things Photoshop used to do. This is so they can make even more money by selling more products!
Have you been through every intermediate version, or are you making a several version jump? I ask because the total amount of change in each .0 version has been manageable. And I personally feel the changes have been worth the money, though perhaps just barely. That's the key in business.

I produce a large number of pages in InDesign.
In each document there are 5 layers. 1 layer with images and 4 layers with language-editions.
For safety and quality control I would like to print out the layer name together with the crop-marks.
Like... Documentname / page number/ layerImages - layer language
Is that even possible? That is...without me having to write it myserlf in the bleed. :-)

InDesign's pasteboard, bleed, and slug areas are independent for each document page. Running header text variables in these areas can capture sources on document pages. If you place a text frame with a character style for the layer name, and a character style for the language name, on a layer, and capture them in a character-style-based running header in the slug, for example, the source from whichever layer is visible will appear in the running header in the slug area. Similarly, you can capture other text variables for page number, filename, date/time, etc.
It may take a little fussing to set it up the first time, but thereafter when you change layer visibility, the visible layer name changes automatically.
NOTE: Text frames on master page pasteboards, bleed, or slug areas do not appear on document pages unless they also touch the document page border.

New stroke options for the layer style "Stroke"

Hi,
The new stroke options are fantastic where you can edit gaps, align and corners. And I love the ability to add layer styles to groups which makes it much easier to work with separate parts in a group that should be treated as a common object.
BUT! Why haven't you updated the stroke (layer style) options to include these new awesome stroke features? I would love to be able to make dashed strokes as a layer style that can be applied to groups, and I don't see why this should be excluded as an option.

Note: A shape layer stroke is a vector-based stroke and is applied only to shape layers. This is very different from the layer syle stroke.
You can control the settings for this stroke in the options bar for the vector tools (Shape, Pen, Path Selection, Direct Selection). This stroke is an attribute of the shape layer and will not cause the fx icon to display on the layer in the Layers panel.
A layer style stroke is a pixel-based stroke and can be applied to any layer that accepts layer styles (including shape layers). The settings for this stroke are controlled via the Layer Styles dialog.

Tour Synchronization issues "determining the root conf name for main system

During sync set up (first attempt) after selecting the sync button during the "determining the root conf main for main system I keep getting a "unknown error".
I have removed the desktop manager, re-installed, updated and same issue.

Accounts not showing up in the office 365 portal has not got anything to do with ADFS. Generally speaking, the reason that accounts don't show up is because they are not within Dirsync scope.
There are a number of reasons that this could happen:
1.Internal domain name has a '@local' upn suffix. Accounts with this specified as their primary upn will not sync.
2. Any custom sync rules that have been configured within Dirsync may not allow accounts to be synced. For example, if the entire organizational unit structure is not syncing, then not all accounts will appear in the O365 console.
Has the dirsync rules been customized since it was configured?

Naming images using 'Save for Web' based on layer name

Hi All
Hope someone can help, I'm a bit stumped!
I've got a PSD in Photoshop CS4 which is for some T-Shirt Designs. I have 15 colours of shirts, all on 15 different layers. Then I have the design of the t-shirt on the top layer. I want to create 15 images with the design shown on each of the 15 shirt colours.
Is it possible to automate the saving of the files? ie Always have the top layer (the shirt design) on, but save a file with just one of the shirt layers on, and save the file so the filename reflects the layer name?
I seem to recall Imageready doing something like this, though maybe it was in the Animation section, its been a while :-)

When a contact person calling to the Interaction center, we want to show Contact person and relevant main customer name in the context area.
for instance XYZ is a contact person for ABC, when call comes from contact person, we want to show both Contact person and Main Customer names in Context area.
How can we achieve this. Kindly help us to solve this probelm.

How do I copy parts of layers from one AI doc into a new AI doc and keep/create same layer names?

How do I copy PARTS of layers containing many objects from one CS5 AI (v.15.0.2) doc into a new CS5 AI doc and keep/create the same layer names?
To start with, I have one fairly complex AI document with 100 layers, with several hundred items in each layer. For example, one layer named "Stars" contains 400 separate stars (not grouped), another layer named "Crosses" contains 300 separate crosses, and a 3rd layer named "Text" contains 200 separate words (not outlined).
If I select, by marqueeing a section of the image/artboard, some (but not all) of the individual items contained in the several layers, then paste that selection into a new CS5 AI doc, I cannot get them to create new layers of the same name. Instead they go into one general layer (e.g. "Layer 101") as a jumble of discrete, but unorganized objects (no layers or sublayers). In other words, I have lost the 3 main layers from which I selected a bunch of objects.
Checking "Paste Remembers Layers" has no effect on this result. In fact "Paste Remembers Layers" does not remember layers at all. Only if I select ALL the items in the several layers will it paste those layers by those names into the new doc (or create new layers of the same names).
Of course it is a COLOSSAL waste of time copying the ENTIRE document, then pasting the WHOLE thing into the new doc (with layers retained), then deleting the parts I DON'T need, so please don't suggest that as the solution.

No Monica, nothing in Plug-ins other than the standard installed items (extensions, filters, formats, etc.). No 3rd-part clipboard extension on my computer that I'm aware of, either. All frustratingly basic. And my other CS5 Adobe programs appear to work well, at least to the extent that I am familiar with them.
So, from what I can tell of the various comments (thanks to all of you), am I correct in thinking that it seems I can't, in fact, do what all of you can do (that is, copy some objects from some layers in one doc and paste into another doc preserving those same layers by name and organization, and each containing the correct objects from each original layer)?
If so, that solves half my issue - "is it supposed to be possible to do it"; leaving just the other half - "why can't I do it too".
I'll get those screenshots made and posted later just in case I haven't adequately described the issue, or y'all haven't understood it.

Setting the layer name from a format plugin with CS2 and before

I wrote a new format plugin and the name of the layer shown in PS , when I read a file, does not seem to be consistent on all computers for versions CS2 and before : some times I get "Background" and some times I get "Layer 0" .
When the layer is named is "Background", it is locked. If I double click on the layer, I get a panel to rename it and the name suggested is "Layer 0" (and not "Background").
Somehow, it seems that my plugin is not doing exactly the right thing or there is a setting in PS options (or in the registry) that controls/causes that behavior. My understanding is that we can't name layers from the plugin before version CS3 (setting the layerName field in the FormatRecord makes no difference for CS2 and before).
I do not care much about the actual layer name as long as that name is consistent for all installations. Does anybody know what is going on?

If it has transparency, it has to be a layer ("Layer0").
If it doesn't have transparency, it is treated as a background.
And yes, changing the background to a layer does normally rename it to "layer X".

Layer names invisible in pallet

I know this has been brought up in the past but didn't really see an answer.
I have one user, that all of a sudden, over night, now has layer names that are invisible. If you roll the mouse over the layer it will show up but doesn't stay.
I have reinstalled Illustrator, and all the fonts.
She did make all layers printable, but this is not a good option, not all layers should be printed.
She dropped one document into my folder that was causing problems for her, but it was OK for me.
Nobody else is having the problem.

This seems to be the fix.
On Friday not only was Illustrator messing up but FileMaker fonts were funky also. So the person that maintains the fonts replaced the system Arial, Verdana and Tahoma fonts.
I don't want to jinks things, but the user reports back today that things are working fine.

I can't get rid of layer names from the Ultiboard PCB properties-General layers tab

A bunch of DXF layer names were erroneously entered into Ultiboard 10.1 a few years ago during a DXF importing operation. I upgraded to 12.0 recently and hoped that the old layers would be eliminated. I have been wanting to get rid of them for a long time. I tried deleting the ub_config file in AppData, but it didn't remove them. Is there anything you can think of to extract them from the program's grasp? Thanks, Tod

Hi Tod,
I suspect one of your design file is causing this. If you go to Options>>PCP Properties>>General Layers, do you see the DXF layers in here? If you see the layers, can you select it then press the Delete button?

How to change layer name with Wacom pen?

Anyone have any good tips on this?
50% of time I do this the style menu come up instead.
With mouse, no problem, with Wacom pen, this happens.
I don't see a right click option to change a layer name, maybe I don't see it? That would help a lot. thanks!
