BOLD style font sudden appearance in Gmail headings

Headings in certain sites including Gmail suddenly started appearing in BOLD style. I have reinstalled all fonts in the library and system using Pacifist and reinstalled Safari to no avail. Changing fonts in preferences for Gmail has made no difference. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked your Font Book application for duplicate fonts???
I would look for Arial & Helvetica bolds . . . but I'm thinking Arial might be the problem.
Let us know how you're doing, OK???

  • Fonts suddenly appear smaller in Safari

    Greetings!
    I have no idea what I did (or did not do), but suddenley the fonts in any website I open with Safari have become tiny.
    No problem, I thought: I went o Safari>Preferences>Appearance to see what happened and, lo and behold, nothing seems to have changed. I still havce my setting at Comic Sans MS 12 and the fixed width font set to Courrier 11. Yes, I can zoom in or use command+ to increase the size of the font, but that lasts until I shut down Safari. When I open it again, it's back to tiny.
    The text encoding, by the way, is set at Default which is the way it has always been.
    I am running Lion with the latest update(s).
    Any ideas? Many thanks.

    Hi HappyMacUser!
    The reason is because Safari uses a different rendering engine than Firefox/Camino. And Camino is the same as Firefox under the hood (Mozilla). The options are to adjust font sizes in preferences or use the shortcuts to zoom in or out of the page that you're on. The only thing with adjusting fonts in preferences is depending on how the website is designed it can override your settings in the browser. One other thing you can do is set the minimum font size. Maybe somewhere between 8 and 10. Just remember it can alter the appearance of the site as you are forcing the fonts to display at this size as a minimum.
    I can notice in Gmail a little. My own experience since I use a Powerbook 12" is I leave all the font settings at standard, I set the minimum at 10, and if the fonts are really small I just zoom in for that page...but to be honest no perfect solution...although I don't pay much attention to it anymore...
    Hope that helps? Reg

  • My firefox page/style format suddenly changed. I would like the original style format. Also, the size of the page and the print/font became too large and I can't seem to change it back. Thanks.

    The new firefox (5.0 I think)) suddenly appeared. I did not request it. I want to change it bacl. Also, The font/print and page is too large and I want to return back to the original size Please help! Thanks.

    Maybe it got zoomed? Try Ctrl-0 (zero) and see if the text changes back to normal.

  • Bold only font designs / style set up

    Hello OpenType Developers,
    How do you set up the style of a font design existing only as Bold
    version like IMPACT from MS?
    Should I set the style to NORMAL/REGULAR (400) or should I set it up to
    BOLD (700) even if no normal or regular design is applicable or will be
    designed in the future.
    MS goes the way and set the font to REGULAR.
    Andreas

    Thomas Phinney may correct me, but I think we follow a slightly different practice:
    - set all the info connecting to a BOLD style as you would for a Regular face:
    - name table Windows Compatible style name = Regular
    - OS/2.fsType and head.macStyle = 0 ( Regular)
    but set the descriptive stuff to Bold:
    name table Win Preferred Style Name = Bold
    OS/2 weight class and Panose value to a Bold value.

  • Heading style is suddenly no longer applied in RH8

    My colleague has been using a custom header style with no problems.  The other day, the style is suddenly no longer applied in preview.
    The project and styled text appear as they should on my computer, but not his.
    Coincidentally, an upgrade to Explorer 7 was made prior to the new issue, but not sure why that impacts the preview, and the upgrade doesn't impact the project appearance on my computer.
    Does he need to reinstall Robohelp to fix this issue?
    Just in case, the style is:
    P.01ProcessHeading {
    font-weight: bold;
    font-style: normal;
    margin-bottom: 12pt;
    margin-left: 0in;
    border-bottom-style: Ridge;
    font-size: 18pt;
    color: #000000;
    border-bottom-width: 2px;
    border-bottom-color: #db281c;
    font-family: Arial;
    The HTML of the styled text is:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <meta name="generator" content="Adobe RoboHelp 8" />
    <title>01 Adding Allergens</title>
    <link rel="StyleSheet" href="..\..\default.css" type="text/css" />
    </head>

    <?rh-script_start ?><script src="../../ehlpdhtm.js" type="text/javascript"
            language="JavaScript1.2"></script><?rh-script_end ?>

               style="border: none;" width="16"
               height="18" border="0" /></a></p>
    I wondered if charset=utf-8 might be a problem - mentioned on another forum topic, http://forums.adobe.com/message/1937722#1937722

    Hi,
    The name of the style starts with numbers. This is invalid CSS and is causing the problems. The best solution is to rename the style (don't use numbers if you can avoid it) and use a find and replace operation to correct the style in your project. (Make a backup first).
    Search for all class="01ProcessHeading" and replace it with class="MyNewName".
    You can validate your css by using the free W3C CSS validator: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

    Below taken directly from the v1.6x API java.awt.Font class doco:he Java Platform distinguishes between two kinds of fonts: physical fonts and
    logical fonts.
    Physical fonts are the actual font libraries containing glyph data and tables to
    map from character sequences to glyph sequences, using a font technology
    such as TrueType or PostScript Type 1. All implementations of the Java
    Platform must support TrueType fonts; support for other font technologies is
    implementation dependent. Physical fonts may use names such as Helvetica,
    Palatino, HonMincho, or any number of other font names. Typically, each
    physical font supports only a limited set of writing systems, for example, only
    Latin characters or only Japanese and Basic Latin. The set of available
    physical fonts varies between configurations. Applications that require specific
    fonts can bundle them and instantiate them using the createFont method.
    Logical fonts are the five font families defined by the Java platform which must
    be supported by any Java runtime environment: Serif, SansSerif, Monospaced,
    Dialog, and DialogInput. These logical fonts are not actual font libraries.
    Instead, the logical font names are mapped to physical fonts by the Java
    runtime environment. The mapping is implementation and usually locale
    dependent, so the look and the metrics provided by them vary. Typically, each
    logical font name maps to several physical fonts in order to cover a large range
    of characters.
    Peered AWT components, such as Label and TextField, can only use logical
    fonts.
    For a discussion of the relative advantages and disadvantages of using
    physical or logical fonts, see the Internationalization FAQ document.

  • After upgrade why do I have Old English style font on alert boxes and text on some sites?

    The browser is picking up fonts from my font list to use in browser alert boxes, pull down menus, and sometimes in whole web sites.
    Unfortunately it chose a Old English font that is virtually impossible to read under 18pt. It also uses a second scrip font for Bold styles.
    For an example of where it is used, the pull down menu at the bottom of the Firefox Help page labeled "Other Languages" appears on my screen as an Old English font called "Westminster Gofisch"

    You can do a check for corrupted and duplicate fonts and other font issues:

    You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).

    You can also try different default fonts.

  • RH8: Bold Text in Paragraph Appears Heavier in Firefox

    Noticed recently that bolded text in a paragraph appears differently in Firefox than it does in IE and Chrome. In Firefox the bold text is heavier. We're creating webhelp output using RoboHelp 8 (8.0.2.208). Note that we have recently upgraded to Windows 7 and re-installed RoboHelp. We also upgraded to Firefox 9. We were not seeing this issue before the upgrades. See example below.
    RoboHelp HTML:
    <p><span style="font-weight: bold;">Open Ports</span>. Select to find hosts
    with a particular open TCP or UDP port. Enter the port number in the field
    provided. You may include up to 10 ports, separating each port with a
    comma.</p>
    Appears like this in IE and Chrome (matches WYSIWYG and topic preview from RH):
    Appears like this in Firefox (heavier bold font):
    The paragraph style as defined in the CSS:
    p {
    font-size: 10pt;
    margin-top: 3pt;
    margin-bottom: 7.5pt;
    font-family: Arial;
    Any thoughts on why Firefox looks different? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    Hi,
    Unless you have a style override somewhere where the font weight is set to 'bolder' or '900' or something, it is just the way Firefox renders it. You can use Firebug to check the CSS applied in Firefox. It may very well be that it's just a render thing as different browsers sometimes render things differently. Nothing to do about that.

  • How to give Bold style inside Single Text Frame

    Hi
    I created a text frame with some text in it. It comes in three paragraphs. First para is the title with two words and below two are small description. All the text is kept in single textframe and I need that to be in single frame only. NOW, I need to bold the first para that is the title with two words. How can I write the code to give bold style to the first paragraph inside that frame? Do I need to take different frame? I want all in single actually. Also I want the entire text frame to give my customized text color.
    Hoping a valuable suggestion
    Thanks in advance.

    Dave, Good questions(s)!!! Details below...
    It's CS2. I need to put some text in all (many) documents I work regularly. Instead of copying from the previous file or any other source, as the text is same for all, I thought of writing the script with the text itself. Running that will create text frame and write the text. Got almost but was unable to bold the title of the text which I mentioned earlier as a first paragraph with two words.
    Also I couldn't give the my color swatch to the text.
    Here is my script:
    var myTextFrame = app.activeWindow.activePage.textFrames.add()
    var myParagraph = myTextFrame.paragraphs.item(0)
    var myFont = app.fonts.item("Arial")
    myTextFrame.geometricBounds = ["11.2in", "6in","9.57in","0.5in"];
    myTextFrame.contents = "First Paragraph"
    myTextFrame.parentStory.insertionPoints.item(-1).contents = "\r This is Second paragraph.";
    myTextFrame.parentStory.insertionPoints.item(-2).contents = "\r\rHere comes the Third Paragraph with extra para space";
    myParagraph.parentStory.appliedFont = myFont
    myParagraph.parentStory.pointSize = 8
    myParagraph.paragraphs.item(-1).spaceAfter = "0.05in"
    myTextFrame.fit(FitOptions.frameToContent)
    Hope this answers all your questions. Waiting for valuable solution. Have another question will ask after I got this. For now, two questions 1) making bold first two words 2) font color

    After running Safari update, all hyperlink fonts are displayed as bold on pages such as CNN, MSNBC, etc. How do I get the fonts to display as regular (not bold) style? I've reviewed recent posts but don't see any solutions for this problem. Any help is appreciated.

    Sure. The first screen shot is the PDF after it's placed in InDesign. The second one is the PDF.

  • Unable to style fonts

    Hi, I've been using Mail 2.1 for some time now but a while ago I was unable to style fonts when creating a message. I am using Arial as the main font and I am unable to Bold, Italic or make Bigger or Smaller from the Format dropdown. I have tried doing it from the Fonts panel as well but it doesn't display the style.
    Any ideas?

    I've got it set to Rich text. Just changed it to Plain text but then when I tried to bold up the text it said I had to change it to Rich text to do this. Still the same problem though.
