HP printer 7510 great printer does not take up alot of room, faxex cxome thru great ie once set up which had to done by HP efax expert whom was very helpful and had my printer, fax all working with pin # and phone # as well.
Book should have more on this subject which they skimped on this time around.

Although mende1 is correct that your files should be preserved during OSX installation I strongly suggest that you backup first, the word that matters here is 'should'

In PS C6 I'm getting a warning that "No color management" setting for printer isn't supported. Why?

I'm using Photoshop Extended CS6. I'm printing to either an Epson Stylus Pro 9900 or an Epson SP4900. In the print dialog, I get a warning I haven't seen in a long time. It says the setting "No Color Management" at the printer is not supported. This is patently false. I am given a link to download the Adobe Color Print Utility (which gives abominable results; I know this from repeated uses in the past), and a service note saying this issue is for Photoshop CS5. Clearly there is a problem, possibly a bug.
I have never had CS5 installed on this machine. I do have PS CS5.5 and PS CS6 on this machine (I have used all versions of CS in various suites from the start of the product line).
Can anyone explain this annoying intrusion on my workflow? Of course "no printer management on printer/Photoshop manages color" works... There must be an explanation.

An excellent question, and worthy, in fact of an essay, if not a chapter in a book on color management and proofing issues. And as you suggested earlier, it's a philosophical question (not strictly conceptual to my way of thinking).
It's also a question I can't answer, in terms of practicality and a personal sense of efficacy in dealing with a monolithic process (producing a print). That is, I can't answer for you, or anyone else I'd venture to say.
Stepping back for the briefest of moments, we should remember we live, on computers, in a virtual world. Whatever we see is a simulation, or if you prefer a simulacrum. Plato would probably say, not much better than the play of shadows on the cave wall from the flickering flames.
It's called soft proofing for a reason. The only hard proof is a print. I am old enough to remember the days when producing a color print from a chrome (requiring an internegative) or even directly from negative images, was an art, best left to skilled technicians in a lab. And even then it was an iterative process. Making an image ready for accurate color rendition in lithographic reproduction was the same things, maybe times ten. And required sometimes a whole team of skilled technicians, the last of them being the press operator. You can't appreciate the full impact of these facts of life back then unless you have been "on press" in some plant, invariably in the hinterlands, looking at actual press proofs under 6500K calibrated proofing lights, comparing them against the original chrome, the separation proofs used to make the plates. You had to understand not only the physics (and biology) of RGB imaging, but the intricacies of subtractive technology, aka CMYK. As in so much else in life, less is more, and so you had to understand that sometimes the least adjustment was the best (because you were also dealing with the physical constraints of layers of ink on paper), so if an image looked too green on the press sheet, it might be best to throttle up on the magenta just a touch, rather than cut back on the yellow and cyan. You balanced one against the other, because of the possible effects on other parts of the image.
This long-winded, probably tiresome if not boring, anecdote is meant to be illustrative of the analogous situation in which we find ourselves printing images with digital technology, combined with electromechanical devices spraying pigmented fluids in drops measured in picoliters of volume on substrates of varying physical properties related to absorbency, refractive index, contribution to an arcane phenomenon known as metamerism.
We can't hope to see anything but a, pardon the expression, simulacrum of the combination of the effects of these phenomena (and other phenomena as a result of the interdigitation of these different technologies, at the software level, and even more so at the hardware level), at least not on a screen (which introduces a whole other set of variables). We can't see what we will get unless we actually go through the ordeal and expense of producing a hard proof. And then using our experience and deductive skills to make adjustments, not unlike maneuvering a rover on the moon from a control station on earth, that will produce the desired outcome within a very narrow (I assume) set of parameters.
Personally, I prefer working in Lightroom and in Photoshop in order to produce the image I would like to see in an ideal, if you like a Platonic, world. If what was on the screen could somehow be transferred magically to the surface of a lovely unsullied sheet of Arches cold press watercolor paper, 350g/m^2 coming out of an Epson 9900... (I've done it). Not so easy.
What the soft proofing capabilities of Photoshop are good for, from my point of view, is to show me how far off the image I am looking at as ideal will fall short on the intended target substrate. I must always remember, it is not a wholly accurate rendition of what the printer will do with a sheet of paper from a particular production run, with the particular combination of inks (with varying dates of origin of manufacture), never mind the vagaries of temperamental nozzles in the printhead, not to mention conditions of humidity, temperature, etc.
What the softproof tells me is that the red in that scarf on my subject really needs bumping up, if I expect the level of vibrancy I see I need in the ideal rendition. And I make the adjustment in the RGB representation on the screen, etc. When I have made my by guess and by gosh adjustments to all problem areas as suggested by the soft proof (it is only as accurate after all as the RGB image is in depicting any realistic expectation of a final result—the only assurance I have is that if I really want people to see my image as I see it on the screen I had better show them the screen...), I make a print. Sometimes I have to make two or three until I am satisfied this is truly the best I will get from the beautiful, but arcane, surface of the paper I have chosen.
In short, it's a risky business, and expensive.
If you want fast and affordable, frankly, stick to premium grade high gloss surfaces, preferably from Epson, in your case, or the manufacturer of your printer in general (Canon, incidentally, produces spectacular results on their Pixma Pro series printers and their own papers, especially the Pro Luster surface... I don't even bother with soft proofing... so there is an exception even to this rule I am taking a lot of time to point out to you). High gloss papers tend to have the widest gamut, give the deepest blacks, and the best renditions of saturated color, red and blue particularly, for some reason often the hardest spectral colors to render with the level of saturation you might like. Especially if you tend to shoot vividly colored subjects.
If you regularly use matte surface, or so-called fine art or watercolor surfaces, I think even if you adhere to the workflow implied in your question... Just set the computer and screen to "soft proof" in effect in Photoshop and work from their, and hope for the best... you are in for massive chronic dissatisfaction.
One last thing, I produce what I consider a basic working image in Lightroom, add further effects using a battery of third party effects software (from Google Nik, OnOne, Imagenomic, AlienSkin, etc.) and then go to work further on the image in Photoshop, but I never save the image, except as a revised file, once I'm done with Lightroom adjustments (which are never applied to the RAW file, but kept as meta-instructions separately in the LR database). So any effects added produce a new file. Any changes in Photoshop produce a new file. And when I am working, finally on an image to make into a committed hard print, I NEVER save the settings I use to produce a print, including a print I deem acceptable for exhibition. If nothing else, I can honestly tell a print buyer they are getting a unique "hand-made" image. I don't feel I'm operating a factory after all, but a studio. Further, changes in technology occur dynamically and continuously. I don't know what I would do with the settings I derived from working solely in the "soft-proofing" mode you think you might prefer in your workflow, if a new paper or ink set, or printer came along that solved the problems I had to fudge around to get a decent print with the existing technology at the time. At least if I work solely in RGB trying to achieve an "ideal" rendition, I will always be able to start from that same point, the next time I want a print worth saving of that image.
We've gone, or I've gone, way off topic here, and I beg the indulgence of anyone else who might be reading this, hoping for a simple fix to the original simple problem.

That means it most likely a setting, Check the following. (steps written for windows 7)
Go to the control panel and find " Devices and printers" and doulble click it.
You should see the icon of your printer their, choose the one without fax in the name.
Right click it and choose " printer properties".
On the "general" Tab click on "preferences".
In the new screen on the "layout" tab cick "advanced"
In the new screen make sure "print in grayscale" is turned off and click ok severall times until all screens are gone.
Try printing again. And make sure in the print screen color printing is also checked.

The time and date setting should be under the setup tools or fax setting in the printer control panel.1. Click the wrench icon on the control panel of the printer.

To connect the unit for faxing, please ensure that the phone cord that is coming from your wall or land line jack is connected into the 'L' jack on the back of the printer. Once this has been done, try to send or receive a fax.
Additional information can be found in the On-Screen Manual for the printer, which should be installed on your computer.

having issues with my C309a its now printing multiple copys when its set to print only one copy.it started doing this 4 days ago and its happening on both my Windows 7 64 bit computer and my Vista 32 computer that both have the latest release drivers already installed need help.HP please sort this issue out.still under warranty do i have to return it?

I am using a Motorola SBG900 Wirless Surfboard Gateway - supplied with Bigpond Cable. It is set to be using WPA security and have never had a problem with it before whilst connecting any wireless devices such as a laptop, PDA etc.
My feeling is that the wireless functionality of this printer needs some serious work before the next release. And furthermore they should never have released it the way it is as it wouldn't pass 5% of user acceptance tests if using wireless. There are too many complaints on this forum and others about similar problems to suggest that I am not by myself here. Dissapointing considering this is the feature that would be at the top of the list of most purchasing this model. It lets down what could of been a vg printer.
I agree, I think if I want to get this printer working on a wirless network, I will have to set the IP address manually. The problem is the printer refuses to connect to the router now even after it connected a few days ago with no intervention. I have powered down both the router, PC, and printer without any luck yet. I will set the IP address manually first on the printer and see how it goes, then if it connects will see if the PC/router can see the printer during the SW install procedure which has failed >10 times to date.
For now I think I will stick with Ethernet as it is no doubt much faster anyway and will try the wirless setup again in a few days when my patience grows back. Does anyone know differences in speed between USB/Wireless/Ethernet? I know this is dependant on a number of things but just interested in ball park figures here.

My Mac is set to print in grayscale by default and I am not sure how to change this. The print setup defaults to Colorsync under Color Management and Colorsync is stuck on Mode "Gray"

My Mac can print color if I change from Colorsync to "in printer" or if I manually change the colorsync profile, but this has to be done every print and is quite time consuming. Can someone help me change the default Colorsync profile or change Color Mangement to default to "in printer"? After 3 days of this I am already tired of this, And before it is asked I do not know what has changed to cause this. Wednesday was the first time I had needed to print on this particular Mac since March and it was already stuck in grayscale.

You can select your preferred set of printing perferences and "Save as Default".
Or you can blow it all away and "Reset the Printing System" which takes you back to NO printers installed, and add the Printers back in.
To reset the printing system (if necessary)
Control-click or right-click a print queue in the "Printers" pane.
Choose "Reset printing system..." from the contextual menu.
Click "OK" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet
This un-installs all printers. You can then add them back in one at a time, and they should come in with default settings.

When saving a PDF from a FrameMaker book, is it possible to set document filenames as bookmarks in the PDF? Currently when I have a Framemaker book that I want to save as a PDF, I choose Save Book As and then choose PDF for the file format. A dialog box comes up in which I can choose the Bookmarks tab and choose which tagged content I want to be made into bookmarks in the PDF file. What if I would rather have the filename of a document rather than the chapter title be a bookmark in the PDF? Is that possible? Where would I choose that option? Thanks!

There are two ways that you could do this. You can either use postscript text frames and enter the correct pdfmark entries to show the file name with the corresponding actions (i.e. where to go in the PDF) or you can use hidden text in FM and the "Filename (Short) " variable in a unique paratag to be picked up by FM's bookmark creation.

The hidden text route would use FM's Color Views to specify a colour as Invisible. This will make the content visually disappear from the screen (and any output), but FM will still be able to read the contents of any text that is coloured with the Invisible colour(s).
1. Pick or create a colour that you want to be invisible. [Magenta is usually a good bet and stands out visually].
2. Set that colour to be invisible in View 1 and visible in View 6. [you can use the shortcut <esc> v 1 and <esc> v 6 to toggle between the views.]
3. Create a paratag to use for the filename and set the font colour to use the invisible colour.
3. In the title of each chapter file, drop an anchored frame that is set to be outside of the text frame [so it won't interfere with any other content].
4. In that AFrame, insert a text frame and use the invisible paratag defined in step 3.
5. Insert the Filename (Short) variable in that text frame.
6. Repeat steps for all files to be included in the bookmarks.
When creating the PDF bookmarks, select only the paratag used for the invisible colour.
Don't forget to toggle the View to be invisible (i.e. <esc> v 1 - this also works at the book level for all files in the book).

How to Set up Print As Image Registry Default.

This is a response to the archived post at:

I was trying to find out how to set the "Print As Image" advanced setting to be enabled by default. Here is what I discovered through trial and error.
1. The setting is stored per user and per printer. (i.e. it has to be set for each printer for each user.)
2. The registry setting is stored in the following key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\General\cPrintAsImage]
3. In this key, each printer has a separate binary value named s0, s1, s2, etc. The number increments by 1 for each printer added. If you open the value data, you will see it contains the name of the printer encoded in hex. (ex. hex coded for \\Server\Printer1)
My recomendation is to open a pdf file in reader, go to File -> Print ->Select Desired Printer -> Click "Advanced" Options -> Enable "Print As Image" -> Click OK - Click OK again. Repeat for each printer you want to
change.
**NOTE** If you don't click OK both times (i.e. cancel the print dialog), the change will not be saved. You have to actually print something to the printer. If you don't want to print something, make sure the printer is offline or not accessible (unplug the network, usb, parallel, serial cable) first. Once the printer has been changed, it will keep the setting until to you change it.
After you have set-up all of the desired printers, open RegEdit and navigate to the above key. Right click on it, and export it. Note the file name and location you are saving to. Close RegEdit. "Edit" (Right Click) the file just exported ("Opening" the file will just import it back into the registry.). Once opened, highlight and copy the registry key and all of the registry values. Paste the key and values at the end of the file. In one of the keys change "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\" to "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\". Save and exit the file.
When imported this file will enable the "Print As Image" setting for the currently logged in user plus add the setting to the default users profile so any new users to the machine will have it enabled by default also. However, it will not add it to any other user profiles that already exist on the computer. To do this, either use a login script for domain computers or add the reg file to the "All Users Startup" folder.
It would be nice to have a setting in the deployment custimazation wizard to handle this, but for now we're stuck with enabling it the hard way.

Allan, many thanks for your post, it certainly helped point me in the right direction. what I found though is that you do not need to tick the print as image box at any point during the setting up of this. All you need to do is add the registry key for whichever version of Adobe you are using for this to work. So basically. what you are saying for each instance of Adobe is regardless of whether or not the print as image is selected, the registry key is saying always print as image for the printer as specified by the hex code. I have found that for network printers, you have to include the full path i.e. \\<servername>\<printername> e.g \\testserver\printer1 and convert all of that to hex. With later versions (9 up over), they have allowed for the string name of the printer so that it is just plain text which also makes life easier.
What I do is apply this registry entry via Group Policy on a per room basis so that we only ever need to add one printer to the list. you could do this globally by adding all printers sequentially using s0, s1, s2 or t0, t1, t2 etc depending on which version you are using. The screenshot shows the registry key for 1 printer for Adobe Reader 8.
The value data is the binary code for the actual full printer name
This works a treat.

Why the window setting the printing disappeared when I try to select the page number of pdf file

When I send the pdf file to the printer and try to select the page number to be printed by entering (e.g., 4-10), the page for setting up printing work suddenly disappeared. As a result, I could only print pdf files from page 1 to the end, if I want to print any document. I have no problem with printing word documents. Thus, it should not be problems related to printer, right ?

How can I include merged projects in the printed documentation?

I have a master project with several merged projects. This works splendid with online documentation, but when I am asked to provide a printed version, it seems I have to create separate documents for each merged project.
Is there any setting or fix that enables print also of merged projects and topics when I create printed documentation?

Hm - there is a contract with the customer, saying that he wants documentation both as word and pdf, and as we now aim at only writing online documentation, these tasks create extra work, as we are delivering updates each month
But yes - two beasts, where only chm is actually needed we think.

How to include different Character Sets in Flex AIR project

Flex, AIR(Desktop) Project.
PROBLEM Scenario:
My Application needs a path from Windows registry, So I am launching a .cmd file using Native Process API.
As a result I get a text file with the path.
So, everything works fine(reading/writing), but if the path contains different languages like Korean, Chinese then the READING OPERATION IS FAILED only when I install the application. It works fine while debugging.
(By failing I mean its not getting the characters, its printing some junk values.)
I am using readMultibyte & writeMultibyte APIs, and I am assiging the character set dynamically as per the OS language. (Which is Enslish in current scenario)
FINDING:
I installed Windows with Korean Language on a system, so now if I build the .exe on this machine then it works fine. So, i guess its not able to get the Korean Character set from the English OS, thats why it failed in earlier case.
Is there any way to include different character sets in a Flex project?

Some loaded SWFs may not be compatible with Flex. Try making a simpler SWF (like one that just draws a circle where you click) and see if it can be loaded and interacted with.

Aperture 3 book preview: Always WYSIWYG compared to the print?

I have found that the Aperture photo book previews of identical images differ significantly depending on the file type. This came to my attention when I compared .jpg images to RAW images on the same page. The reds and resulting skin tones were very different. So I tried converting the same image to several different file types and the differences in the reds among them was quite a problem. Meanwhile, in the Aperture viewer the different formats were almost indistinguishable. The worst shift between the preview and the viewer colors occurred for the Canon RAW format - major slide from red into orange. I also tried .jpg (quality 10) and .psd (8 and 16 bit). Their reds in the previews are also significantly different from the Aperture viewer in terms of saturation, brightness and contrast. It doesn't matter whether onscreen proofing is on or off. The 'red shift' also happens regardless of whether the monitor calibration is via Colormunki or the 'best fit' OS X eyeball calibration method.
So, what am I to believe? The Aperture viewer or the book preview? Or neither? I'm not ordering all these expensive books until this is resolved. FWIW, single prints from Apple based on the Canon RAW images are very far from the viewer appearance. Their reds are muted and skin tones are sickly...

Here is the 'not so happy' conclusion to this story. After working with an Aperture support engineer I learned the following:
1) The print preview is the result of the particular color profile for the specific printer that will be used on each order, after it is applied to the submitted images. So if one's monitor is calibrated then the preview image should be very representative of the printed image.
2) The hue shift that I see is particularly striking in pure reds that have an RGB green channel value of zero. The printing color in the preview will consistently add green. Blues in the same regions are variable, sometimes adding more blue and sometimes subtracting it, which worsens the hue shift.
3) This effect is independent of the computer submitting the image data - results were identical among 3 different macs.
4) Regarding the difference between image appearance in the Aperture viewer vs. the print preview - that DID vary among macs. The best WYSIWYG performance (least difference) was on a new iMac calibrated by eye with the Apple utility, the worst was on my Mac Pro with video card upgrade and Dell Ultrasharp monitors, calibrated using colormunki.
5) You are welcome to take a look at the before-after difference as displayed in an online album. It compares a .jpg made from the print preview to a .jpg made from a screen grab (using the Grab program). Files had to be converted to .jpg format to upload. On my rig they do show the issue. 6) In summary, the RAW image format is not as standardized as other more ubiquitous formats and each can be somewhat different. So it remains to be seen whether Apple has time to fine-tune the application to all of the standards. It may not make financial sense. But until this is fixed, they will not receive any print business from me.

I receive text messages that should include a hyperilnk but it does not show.

I receive text messages that should include a hyperlink for google map. For a while it was working fine. All of the sudden the link doesn't show in the message anymore. I thought they had stopped sending them but comparing the same message with another phone, the link was in that one.
Am I missing a setting or was anything changed with the upgrades that I don't see the links anymore?

After installing "Show Parent Folder" add the "Parent folder" column by double-clicking on any column header in the Library List, you cannot sort on the "Parent folder": column, and you should go to the extension's options and turn on "Show folder hierarchy".
