Boot T500 to DVI

Hello,
I recently purchased a T500, and I absolutely love it.  However, I have a problem - I cannot boot the machine to the DVI display when it is docked.  I generally leave my laptop on the dock, and with my old T42 I had no issues with booting to DVI.  I have looked through the BIOS settings, and from there, the only options are to boot to VGA or to the LCD screen.  The computer boots all the way through and I don't see anything until Vista logs in, at which point I have display flicker until my normal settings are applied (1680x1050 on my LG 22" LCD).
Is there a BIOS update or some way that I can get this to work?
Thanks!

welcome all to the forum,
I think you will find your solutionhere, BIOS is the same.
Hope this helps

    Motherboard :MSI Z68AGD80 (b3)
    Processor : I5 2500k
    8GB Ram Gskill
    5tb HDD +1 SSD 256 GB
    PSU : corsair TX 750
I even flashed the motherboard bios with latest Bios provided by my MSI but no luck
I dont understand why the card is not detecting .. I tried to flash the card with vbios which is supplied by sapphire on their Wesbite By it is always showing adapater notfound there by I concluded the card was not detecting ..
Before this I replaced 3 cards since I thought cards are the issues .. first I replaced asus then other 2 cards are sapphire ..
But on otherside My old 6850 HD card is working fine ..
When I place the card in slot and boot from motherboard dvi I am unable to detect the card in Device manager

Its only 2 years old not a 6 or 10 years old board ..
its not when you purchase your board, but its release date and the period until its EOL.

for me It doesn't matter how much old to support .. a GPU should support any kind of motherboard
there is no such thing. there is no any guarantees that old hardware will works with any future released hardware.

the pathetic thing is your are supporting MSI  even the fault is your side
the only fault is in your understanding.
again: contain MSI from the link that i give you and see if anything can be done about it.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter Problems in Boot Camp / Windows

I currently run Windows XP SP2 on my MacBook and recently purchased the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter so I could hook up the MacBook to an external projector, monitor, or TV to display what's on my Windows screen on the external device. However, when I connect it to any external device, it just goes nuts and sporadically continues to make the hardware connect and hardware disconnect sounds and doesn't allow for external output of the screen. Any suggestions...? Thanks!
    Marc

I think I solved this problem.
It was in issue for me. My second monitor would only display the Windows XP screen when it was loading, then it would black out. I couldn't even move my mouse arrow to the other side. Then I fixed it, here's how (running Windows XP SP3):
    1. Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes
    2. Display
    3. Go to tab "settings"
    4. Double click the blue image with the "2" inside it. This is the second monitor, adjacent to your first, or primary, monitor. The blue box may be a desaturated, greyish blue, meaning that the monitor is disabled. Click it and it a box will pop up asking if you want to enable the monitor. Click OK, and then like magic, your monitor is resurected in it's Windows Glory! From there, adjust the resolution, and it should work perfectly.
This isn't a Boot Camp compatability issue, it's just a problem with the lack of familiarity that users of OS X have with using XP.
    Have a nice day!

  • DVI To Video Adapter on XP using Boot Camp

I bought a DVI To Video Adapter for my MacBook pro. Though is works fine on the Mac OsX, when I tried to use it on Windows XP (using Boot Camp) all I got was a black-flickering image on my TV. Anyone… anything…? Thanx
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I'm having the same problem.
It's gotta be some driver problem on the XP side.
I don't know if it's something created by boot camp when it creates drivers for the Mac.
The help i've found for the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 doesn't describe the options and dialogs I'm working with very accurately.
Called Apple-- they can't support the issue. Turned me back to searching on my own. Boot Camp message boards/ ATI... bummer.
Someone needs to "Hero" us out.

  • Possible to move boot display to different DVI port? (GTX780)

I doubt this is possible, but just in case : is it possible to force boot screens to a different port on the video card?
The MSI GTX780 has two DVI ports - one DVI-I (which includes analog display) and DVI-D (which does not). The DVI-I port displays the boot screen, BIOS, and anything that shows before Windows is fully loaded.
I currently have two monitors. My primary monitor can connect via DVI, and since it is a 120HZ monitor, it currently uses a dual link cable. The secondary monitor is older and cannot connect via DVI, so I use a DVI-I-to-VGA adapter and a standard VGA cable for that display. Unfortunately, this means that the secondary monitor shows boot/BIOS/etc.
Is it possible to move the boot display to the DVI-D port on the card?
Please note that this is not a big issue - having the secondary monitor show boot info is a minor annoyance at worst. The secondary monitor also has HDMI-in, so I can buy a cable and use that, and then move the primary monitor to the DVI-I port. I do want to avoid spending more money, but mostly, I want to see if it is possible to force the boot screens to another port. This seems like it might be a very interesting way to learn about the video card (and VBIOS, if changing that is necessary to do this).
    Thank you.

In the "Arrangement" pane of "Displays" System Preference, drag the picture of the menu bar to the picture of the other display.

  • Mac mini, boot camp, windows vista/windows 7, DVI to HDMI, no display

I have a mac mini from 2008 on which I have put windows Vista via boot camp. I have connected the mini using DVI to HDMI, to my Sony Bravia 1080p HDTV.
When I log into the mac 10.6.2, all seems fine and I can see the display alright.
When I log into Windows Vista, I cannot. The display stays black even though I hear the Windows startup sound.
I tried force-upgrading to Windows 7 and the same thing. In fact at some point I can see some of the stuff (like when starting in safe mode), but as soon as it boots up, the display goes blank.
Normally I can see the display up to the point where it says loading Microsoft windows (with the small progress bar) and then, nothing.
Any clues what may be happening?

  • Can't boot my T500 anymore... just getting to a black screen after the XP logo

I have a big problem with my Lenovo T500. Never had any problems before. Then yesterday, I could not open OpenOffice anymore, neither convert to pdf from an already open OpenOffice document. I got error messages saying the programmes can't be openend. After trying to re-install Adobe Reader failed, I simply wanted to restart the computer, seeing if that oculd help. And now the big problems started...
Re-booting was not possible. For 20 seconds, it seemed normal. But directly after the Windows XP logo (using
Windows XP Professional 1), the screen went black and that was it. I see the mouse cursor and can move it, but that's it.
After waiting some time, I turned the laptop off with the power button. And restarted it. This time getting to the screen where I could choose "safe mode" or normal startup, because the computer had been shut down improperly. First I tried normal mode, which lead to the same black page. Then I did the same again and tried "safe mode", which didn't work either - I just got the black screen with the "safe mode" notifier in every corner.
What I tried then was the ThinkVantage button directly when starting the computer. Which lead me to the "rescue and recovery" menu where I could choose what to do: Complete recovery, losing personal files (it's about music, pictures, text documents for me) or quick recovery without losing files. Also there was the option of saving files before through USB. This is what I tried first. I marked 50GB of files and wanted to transfer them. Problem: Every external harddrive or USB stick I connected was not identified. So this failed.
I chose to go with "quick recovery" first then. This took about 20mins. When it was done there was an automatic re-start which unfortunately got stuck at the black screen again...
3 more re-starts using the power button did not bring anything either. The ThinkVantage button does not let me access the rescue and recovery menu anymore. It just says something like "checking the system" and then there is an automatic re-boot, which ends up at the black page.
I am mighty scared now that I lost my computer and the data on it (I have backups for most things, but still).
Does anyone know anything that could be done now? I do not have XP or anything, by the way. I bought this computer used a year ago and got it complete with XP installed (although I do have the product key). The warranty from the place expired 5 days ago and the place is in Germany, but I live in Sweden. They told me they can't help me but I should contact a local repair place.
If anyone has an idea about what the problem could be (virus??) and maybe some help, I would be VERY VERY thankful.

Maybe I should add that I probably didn't do the best thing with anti virus programs. I used Microsft Security Essentials, which was installed when I bought the computer.
When downloading some program (not sure whether it was Acrobat Reader), I was asked to get McAfee. Kind of weird, I had said no. But McAfee somehow checked my computer and told me my MP4 player contained a trojan. That was 5 days ago. Security Essentials couldn't find it, even scanning the MP4 player directly. I guess I should have switched right away and to get McAfee to remove the thing? Maybe this is what caused all the trouble...

  • Cinema DIsplay sleeps when I use Boot Camp with Radeon 5870 through DVI connection

I just created a bootcamp partition on my Mac Pro (1,1) with Radeon 5870 and XP Professional so I can play Train Simulator 2012 with maxed out settings. Well after hours of installing Windows XP and updating it (via Parallels so I could do other things while waiitng for Windows) I got Train Simulator 2012 installed, Windows XP Professional fully upto date and reboot to bootcamp. I see the Windows screen and then my monitor goes to sleep (best guess). I am using an Apple Cinema Display 20" and is of course connected to the DVI port. One guess (and I hope I am totally wrong about this) is I think I remember reading the DVI port id display 3 not 1. I hope this isn't the problem (requiring me to buy a $40 Mini Display port for DVI adapter.
Any ideas as to why this is happening? I was so looking forward to playing Train Simulator with maxed out graphics via Boot Camp with the Radeon 5870 1GB. Don't get me started as to why my line out is not being detected by XP Pro.
I also have the latest Bootcamp drivers for XP (3.2).

Never used XP and on Mac Pro I wanted to use all 4-cores and more than 1.9GB RAM but often it seems that in the past and with Fusion anyway you would need to install Windows updates and drivers natively not thru or in the VM.

  • Mac Mini / Boot Camp / XP Pro / Black Screen with DVI display

Boot camp partitioned the hard drive on my new Mac Mini and restarted after I clicked Start Installation, but came up to a black screen. No blue installation screen, nothing.
I downed it with the power button and unhooked the display from the DVI port. I went and got a VGA cable instead and hooked it up via the DVI/VGA adapter and started up again with the Option key. Chose the Windows XP Pro SP2 installation CD and it went through the Windows installation OK.
The trouble is this Norwood Micro HD17A (17" widescreen) looks TERRIBLE on VGA whether I run Windows or Mac OS, because there's no selection for 1280 x 768 resolution. It looks great on DVI both on Mac OS and in Windows once I get XP Pro to load.
After logging in to Windows I can unhook the VGA cable and adapter and reconnect the monitor using the DVI. The moment I do this Windows looks great, with native resolution supported and everything's fine. But this is a terribly cumbersome login procedure!
It seems that XP Pro has no trouble communicating with this display, provided I can get Windows to load. I contacted Apple Support but they say it's a problem with Windows, so I submitted a support request to Microsoft. I'm waiting for them to tell me it's a problem with Boot Camp or the firmware.
I've seen descriptions of very similar problems on other forums (123macmin.com) and here, but no solutions anywhere. Anybody know what's happening here?

Update: Microsoft says it's probably a problem with the hardware:
    ==========================================
Mark, I would like to explain that the issue should be related to the display card driver. We still need to contact the Apple support to verify if their machine has been tested under the XP environment when DVI or AVG is in use. This issue is related to Hardware and cannot be resolved from a Windows XP standpoint. Our Windows XP Support Team deals mainly with issues related to the Windows XP Operating System. Thus, we are not the best resource for this issue.
Please understand the problem may be beyond our support boundary and, therefore, our help to troubleshoot this issue is limited. Let’s contact the manufacturer who will be more familiar with their products. To contact them, please access the following link:

  • Mac Mini does not detect DVI monitor on boot but does so on awake

    Hi,
my Mac Mini fails to detect a monitor on the DVI port when it boots (monitor says no signal).
If I leave it a few minutes to boot, then put it to sleep and awake using the power button, then the display appears.
This problem does not occur with the DVI-to-VGA adapter, and I have tried with 2 separate DVI monitors (different brands) and cables (both monitors are fine with Windows PCs).
I have tried various resolutions and color depths, to no avail.
Any ideas about how to resolve this?

What brand and model of monitor do you have?

  • Viewsonic VX900 DVI boots Windows XP (via bootcamp) but not native OS X

I'm trying to get the DVI bootup to work correctly with my Mac Mini Core Duo. I'm using a VX900 LCD. When I reboot it goes to XP (bootcamp) and runs perfectly. But when I hold down the option key (to select OS X) I get a black screen and the 'no sync' message on the LCD.
It seems that the bootup is happening since after a while the boot times out and I wind up booting Windows XP again. I just can't see the bootcamp selection screen.

I would try getting another monitor and configuring the mini to boot into OS X as the default. Then get a VNC client/server connection going with another computer on the network. Finally, reconnect to the Viewsonic and let the mini boot into OS X making sure you have set the VNC server as a startup item on the mini. That's the only way you will have any visibility into what resolution the mini is starting up in when connected to the Viewsonic.
Have you tried connecting to the Viewsonic over VGA? Does that make any difference? That might be an alternative. If it works over VGA, you could just stick with VGA.

  • T500 DispalyPort to DVI not working?

I recently bought a DisplayPort to DVI adapter for my T500 so i could use my monitor, however the mointor isn't being detected i nthe control panel. It worked earlier using VGA, but it won't detect it this way. Is this a Windows 7 problem or a T500 problem?

    Bump.... Can somebody PLEASE help?

  • DVI Booting issues

    Hi all,
I've got a FX5600 TD and a CTX LCD DVI monitor.
When I first installed everything it worked like a charm.
However something must of gotten mesed up because now it only displays analoge while booting and then switches to DVI mode as soon as Windows OS is up.
I completely reinstalled my system but with no avail.
Can anyone assist me in getting my monitor to display the post messages in DVI Mode again as this is the primary used setting. The monitor seems to be fine because I hooked it up to another system and on that system it boots and displays the post messages in DVI Mode.
    Greets, Merlin

I'm lost on this one. If it is neither the LCD nor the BIOS, that only leaves the graphics card at fault.  It can't be an issue with the drivers because the change occurred before any disk resident drivers are loaded.   Yep, I think that some part of the gfx card is shot.  Try updating the motherboard BIOS if possible, just in case, because it's up to BIOS to drive your LCD at that early stage.
If your card came with a DVI-VGA converter like mine, you could plug it into your LCD and use an analog VGA connection.
    Tony.

  • T500 BIOS disables USB booting (BUG)

I am reporting this here as a coutesey to the rest of the T500 users.
I boot from a lot of different USB media.  I have about 6 different OS/s that I regularly boot from.  I use them day-to-day for my development work.
I have been using my T500 for about 2-weeks now and I cant stand the TrackPad.  Dont get me wrong, its not the Lenovo trackpad I hate.  I hate ALL trackpads.  Its just me and the way my palm rests on the laptop.  I generally like to disable the trackpad in the BIOS of any laptop I use.
The BIOS control for disabling the Trackpad on the T500 also disables the ability to boot from a USB hard drive.  I can recreate this at will.  The BIOS version in question is 3.00 (6FET70WW), 2009-04-17.

    Hi lemmingman,
    Welcome to the Lenovo forum
Thank you for reporting this apparent BIOS bug. If anyone else can confirm they have the same trouble, could you please post:
    1) Your 7-digit machine type XXXX-YYY from label on bottom, or in BIOS Setup screen when you press F1 at boot. (Please don't post your serial number, which appears in the same locations.)
    2) Your BIOS version, from the same BIOS Setup screen.
    Thanks!

  • T500 bluescreen and re-boot

My T500 (Win7 64bit) is about 1 month old.  Last night it started re-booting - sometimes every few minutes. There was not even enough time to write an email and the next shutdown would occur.  I think it started after the last Windows automatic critical update, so I did a system restore to that but it did not help. Otherwise no changes to hardware or software were made. I am in a hotel and very desperate, is there a way to contact Lenovo in Toronto for support?

Hi merlin666, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
The Lenovo Canada support number is 1-800-565-3344.
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!
