Bounce Mail to Sender Won't Work in Leopard 10.5.1

Hey everyone,
I came across this issue shortly after installing Leopard back in October. We've sent emails to ourselves from various accounts and tried to bounce them back (for testing purposes) and we never seem to receive the Apple default bounce message that would go to spammers or whom ever we would typically bounce messages to. This has worked flawlessly in the past with Tiger, but for whatever reason, it doesn't in Leopard. I've tested this from three different Macs using 3 or 4 different email addresses ranging from yahoo to gmail to our business email and the messages never come back to us.
Has anyone else come across this issue and if so, what have you done to resolve this?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Hi Robin,
Thanks for detailed replies to my questions. I think we are quite near to the solution here
Do you have Acrobat installed. Any previous version? Or do you have any other version of Adobe Reader. For this check your applications folder. Reader X is present as /Applications/Adobe Reader.app whereas previous versions like 9, 8 or 7 are present in respective folders in /Applications like /Applications/Adobe Reader 9/Adobe Reader.app. If any such versions are present (for Reader only), you can trash them. Note: Do Not trash Acrobat.
Next go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and delete AdobePDFViewer.plugin file present there.
Since ftp is not working for you, go to http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and in Step 1 select OS as Mac OS Intel 10.5.8 - 10.6.7. In Step 2 select Language as English and in Step 3 select Reader X (10.1) English for Mac Intel. Now click download and save "AdbeRdr1010_en_US.dmg" to your hard disk.
Double click this downloaded file to mount it as disk image on desktop. Open this disk and Run Adobe Reader X Installer.pkg. This will install Reader X in /Applications/Adobe Reader.app
Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and now again check version of AdobePDFViewer.plugin. This should be 10.1 now, that is this plugin will now be owned by Reader X
Now try opening pdf files in Reader application and Safari. Hope it works.
Thanks,
Karan

  • Mail Not Sending, No Advice Working, Lion Mail Settings Mixed Messages

I've tried all the advice I've seen on this issue. One thing that applies to me that I don't see mentioned elsewhere, is that while all the servers show Offline in Mail/Preferences, if I go to the Mailbox dropdown, it will show Take Accounts Online as inactive, and Take Accounts Offline as active. So since upgrading to Lion, it has a mixed message within itself. This *must* be part of the problem??? Will others please check this and report if they show the same inconsistency, so Apple will see there is a glitch in their software?
Then, when I try to change ports or anything in Mail/Preferences, I get this message:
"The servers marked with alert icons are in conflict and cannot be saved. Two servers cannot share the same address and authentication settings. Resolve the conflicts and try again."
But *no alert icons show* next to any servers in the list, and no servers are sharing the same address and authentication settings. Well I have three gmail accounts, so I have three servers, one for each one, that share the gmail smtp (address?) and settings, but don't share the same email address. Which address does this message think is being shared, the accounts' email addresses or the smtp address? I've always used separate server settings for each gmail account because you have to enter different passwords. This should not be an issue.
I've have tried every which way to solve this. It's clear to me that it's Lion related, *not* my email host server.
Have five days of emails in my Outbox and have spent a couple hours trying to resolve and getting desperate for a solution. No Mac store near me :-(

I now discovered that after the last procedure, when I look at Mailbox > Online Status > the settings for the two working accounts appropriately show Online and the one for the non-working account appropriately shows Offline. But asking it to go Online doesn't work. Also, whereas before, even though the two accounts showed Offline in Preferences, you'd go to the Mailbox menu and the only option at the top was to Take All Accounts Offline (when they already were in Preferences). Now I have the Preference list accurate as to what is on and off and there is an option in the Mail dropdown for taking all On or Off. So I just have one more glitch to resolve on the remaining account that won't send out. Clear as mud? Does anyone care lol!

  • Mail (through iCloud) won't work on iPod Touch

I've signed up for Cloud on my iPad. Everything works fine, including Mail (although I had to sign up for a new email address, [email protected]). However, if I want to use Mail on my iPod Touch, it won't launch. All I get is the "Welcome to Mail" screen with the various options (Hotmail, Exchange, Gmail, iCloud, etc.). When I tap "iCloud" and fill in my Apple ID and password, it says I'm already connected to iCloud. Mail won't launch and I'm also not receiving any mail. What do I do?

    Hi...
On your iPod Touch go to Settings>iCloud and ensure that "Mail" is set to "On".

  • Mail and safari won't work after installing lion.

After upgrading my computer to Snow Leopard then to Lion I am unable to open Safari and Mail.  The computer says the versions I have are not compatible with Lion.  I have checked to see if there are any available updates by selecting the apple at the top left - the computer states it is up-to-date.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
    Thank you!

Please check to see if both the Mail app and Safari app were located at the root level of the Applications folder, and not renamed in any way.  Unless that is the case, the Upgrade to Lion may not work correctly.
However, also look with Spotlight to see if there are more than one version of each on your Mac, as your links in the Dock might refer to now outdated ones.

  • OMG, mail app STILL won't work.  When will they get it right?

So last night after i updated, email SEEMED to be working fine......i was happy as a pig in mud.....i fetched every 15 minutes from 2 pop accounts and 3 imaps...throughout the night every now and then i would get email notifications like on 1.1.4......i was soooo happy to FINALLY have this feature working again........then i went to bed and woke upin the morning with no emails...which i know wasnt right.....so i went to my desktop and sure enough there was 6 emails sitting there........i then opened mail o the phone again and still nothing and it was taking a bit of time to search and find emails.........wasnt working so i had to use the home button for 10 seconds to close out mail.......after i closed out mail, TADAH!! there were my 6 emails........why isnt mail working yet??????.....why do we have to "close" down the mail app in order for it to work right?......and that doesnt last for long either......this is the reason i use the phone the most as i run a couple businesses and i use mail constantly.......what did they actually fix in the mail app this time around?

When you did the 2.1 update did it restore your backup file onto the iPhone?
If so you may want to backup iPhone, Restore, Setup as new iPhone and see if this provides better response. Post back

  • Mail Box Rules' won't work!

How do I get the 'Rule' function to work? I want certain mail I recieve to be deleted. I have entered all the information I thought it needed, but it still doesn't work.
For eg: I want to delete all the Apple Discussion forums that don't relate to my topics, because I am recieving thousands of them everytime I log on (which isn't very often). So I just want to delete them.
Does it make a difference if I select the option 'subject' or 'from'? I am really sick of manually deleting all this unwanted mail.

You could setup rule that "if any Subject is xxx" then "move it to Trash", then stop processing rules, but you'd have to keep enough emails to know all the subjects you're receiving before you can filter them out. You can do multiple subjects in one rule.
The discussion forums are available via RSS, so are you using Mail as your RSS Newsreader, or are you truly receiving email? If it's the latter, I suggest using RSS instead, since you can subscribe only to the topics that interest you.

  • My Mail.app Still Won't Work Well with Gmail IMAP

My Mac Pro is completely updated to Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.2, the latest update, but Mail.app still works really poorly with my gmail IMAP account.
Mail.app sometimes fails to pick up new mail for as much as a couple hours at a time, while Mail on my iPad is having no problem.
I've tried quitting and restarting Mail, taking the account offline and then back on, and using the synchronize command, but nothing forces Mail to pick up recent mail until all of a sudden, a couple hours later, it's working fine again.
I'd consider switching to a 3rd party mail client, but none of them have the combination of features that I like in Mail.
This happens at least every couple days.
Is everyone still seeing this kind of flakiness in Mail?

When you did the 2.1 update did it restore your backup file onto the iPhone?
If so you may want to backup iPhone, Restore, Setup as new iPhone and see if this provides better response. Post back

  • Setting up Sky E-Mail and it won't work!

It keeps saying that the username or password are incorrect, but neither are!!!
    Any help is much appreciated.

If you have two-step verification turned on in your email account, you'll have to log in with a browser and turn it off.

  • Old apps won't work with Leopard

OK, thinking this would work out alright, I bought and installed Leopard on my eMac. I knew that my machine just met the requirements to run it, but I figured I could live with a sluggish machine for a while. I upgraded the OS from 10.2.9 which ran everything fine of course. Now after installing Leopard, a number of my programs (Photoshop 7, Appleworks 6 to name a few) will not open without crashing. And I've also had problems with the Mail 3 program. It opens, I can get mail, but I can't send mail. The send button doesn't even rollover so I can try to send. It just won't let me send.
At this point I'd be happy to just reinstall 10.2, but I can't figure out how to do that either...the 10.2 disk won't start up the installation process, it just says it needs to restart the computer and then brings me back to my regular login screen. What in the world can I do to fix this?

How did you install 10.5, via Upgrade Install or another method?
If you have a good backup, your best bet may an erase & clean install of Leo. You are dragging along a lot of old baggage.
You also should be able to use Setup Assistant (which IMO works better before an admin user is created) or migrate by hand and install the apps you need to re-install.
PS 7 will not run on 10.5
If you really feel you need to re-install 10.4, you should erase and reformat your drive before installing 10.4.x

  • Remote Desktop Connection won't work from Leopard to Windows XP

    Hi, folks:
I'm unable to connect to my work XP computer via my home iMac (Leopard 10.5.7) using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection for Mac. The XP settings are correct, I'm connected on my work network VPN, and I don't believe I have any router firewalls causing the problem --- the reason I know this is because I also have an MacBook running Tiger (10.4.11) and it has been connecting to my work PC without any problems. So, this must be a Leopard firewall setting?
As far as that goes, on my iMac I've got Screen Sharing, Remote Login and Internet Sharing turned on. Again, work network VPN is on.
I'm getting this error from Remote Desktop Connection:
"The Mac cannot connect to the Windows-based computer
    This problem can occur if:
    - The Windows-based computer is not set up to accept remote connections
    - The Windows-based computer is not turned on
    - The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems
Try connecting to the Windows-based computer again, or contact your administrator"
Anyone know of a fix? I'd greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks.

What Firewall setting do you have on your Mac? Try setting it to allow all connections. At least as an experiment.
Do you have any Proxies set in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxies? If yes, then is it possible that "Bypass" list is not covering the XP system.

  • HP Deskjet 1220c printer functions won't work in Leopard

Hello. I'm a first time forum user. My HP driver is 3.3.3 (latest from Software Update) and all I can do is print, no options are available. On HP's site they offer a driver from Nov. 2007, no version number listed but that sure seems outdated. Any idea how I can get the print functions working? Thank you.

I'm having the exact same problem. I know when I used the 1220c on my old G4 using panther you had a wide variety of functions including selecting paper types like photo, gloss, card stock etc. Can you access these options?

  • Canon MP470 purchased from Apple 2 months ago won't work with Leopard

I purchased the latest and greatest iMac 2 months ago for my wife. I also purchased a printer as part of an Apple Store promotion. This past weekend I upgraded to OS 10.5.1 and now the printer will not work. There is no driver for that model included in 10.5.1 and Canon referes you back to Apple. Apple refers you back to the Manufacturer.
My wife wants to go back to OS 10.4 (like the commercial where Vista users upgrade to an older more reliable experience). I now have a totally useless Canon multi-funtion printer and a really cool OS without the ability to print.
    Can anyone help?

Canon posted new drivers for some of their printers - including the MP470 - at the start of November. These specifically say they support 10.5 (though I had no problem using older drivers for my MX310 in 10.5.0).
    Get them from:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDet ailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=15403
    or:
    http://www.canon.com.au/products/allin_one_printers/all_in_one_printers/mp470support.aspx
I only upgraded to 10.5.1 (from 10.5.0) last night so haven't tested printing again. I hope this helps.

  • Updating FREE version of iPhoto to work with Leopard?

Recently upgraded our iBook G4 to Leopard. Now, the System says iPhoto 2.04 (free version) won't work with Leopard. None of the iPhoto upgrades avalable (4, 5, 6) work as upgrades. In the iPhoto discussion, others said the only option is to PAY for iLife '08.
Is that true? I have iPhoto v5.04 on my PB G4, and it works under Leopard. I never purchased iLife.
    Suggestions, please

I don't know for sure about iPhoto 2's (in)compatibility with Leopard, but if that part is true, then you will have to pay for the upgrade.
iPhoto 2 is over five years old. Besides the fact that the current version is WAY more advanced, I have to say that any software that only makes you pay for an upgrade one time in a period of almost six years is a tremendous bargain.

  • .mac mail send button won't work

I installed snow leopard, and now my mail won't work properly. I can compose and receive e-mails, but I cannot send them. There is no error message, the send button simply doesn't work when I click it. I tried using the manual command to send, no dice. Any ideas?

Please click on Window in the menubar of Mail, and choose Connection Doctor -- what does it report regarding the SMTP?
