BPC 10.0 - Monthly closing balance - Brought forward happens at ECC or to be done at BPC end using BRs?

Dear All,
BPC 10.0 - Consolidation Project
When performing consolidation, every month's closing balance is being brought forward from one month to next month. Would like to know the business practice on how this is being brought forward.
My question is :
Is this happening at ECC end? I.e. BPC side does NOT have to do that through business rules?
Or,
ECC just send month's data without closing balance and, BPC side will have to bring forward the month's closing balance to next month's opening balance?
Which one is widely practiced?
Thank you.
Regards,
Peri

Thanks for your reply.
I agree with you for business rules are first option. But my question is which option is best among Business Rules
1) Balance Carryforward Business Rules
2) Account Transformation business Rule.
Few point in favor of Account Transformation BR :-
As business rule account transformation needs few configuration against BCF rules.
Account transformation uses Account, Category, Flow, Audittrail, Time (Periodic, YTD) and  Sign Reversal.
Please help me in understanding the scenario which BFC can do but Account Transformation can not ?
Thanks,
Vish

  • Balance Brought Forward Customer Statement

    Hi there, everyone
Our company would like to print customer statements in a balance brought forward format. By "Balance Brought Forward" I mean that the statement starts with an Opening Balance (being the previous month's closing balance), then reflects all receipts (not applications), invoices, credit memos, debit memos, adjustments and discounts and then totals to a closing balance. It would also be ideal if a payment schedule could be printed detailing what portion of the final balance is due on what dates.
We are still on 10.7NCA, so if this functionality is available in 11 or 11i, please will someone let me know. Otherwise, if there is anyone out there who has done this, please can you send me some pointers.
    Regards
    Mark

    Hello,
This issue should be solved in 2007 A / 2007 B version. Please clarify to which version you are referring.
    Thanks for the input.

  • Year end closing (Balance carried forward

    Hi
Please help.  Our company did not do a year close on debtors and vendors.  I realised it now with certain debtors, that their closing balance (June 2006) do not agree to the opening balance (July 2006).
Can one do a closing on the sub-ledger (Debtors & Vendors) as well as for the GL.  What affects will it be having on our books or is it save to do it.

    Hi Theo,
There is probably nothing much you can do to bring the balances to what it should have been by end of June as some debtors would probably have paid amount owed before June 2006 and you may have paid some Creditors too.
Your best bet is to still go ahead and carry out the year end closure of all the various <b>sub-ledgers</b> that has not been done. Once you've completed this, you may then want to embark on a reconciliation process to determine the exact balances as at June 2006 by analysing all payments received from Debtors to see which ones relates to prior 30 June 2006 and adding these back to get the correct figures as at end of June 2006. You would have to do the same for all Vendor payments you have made.
Just to be sure you have not left out anything from your year-end processes, the following would be very useful and handy as a guide. (Though some of them may not be applicable to your organisation)

  • How to Query up Monthly Closing Balance on a Table of Transactions

Probably a simple question for an analytics wizard, but I'm not there yet...
Suppose I have a table of financial transactions named TX with TX_DATE and TX_AMOUNT columns and that some months may not have any transactions (i.e., there are gaps). I would like to know the best query for returning the closing monthly balance with no gaps. I suspect it will involve a trick I saw on asktom.oracle.com for generating the list of months between two dates, some outer join cleverness, the use of SUM(TX_AMOUNT) OVER (ORDER BY TX_DATE) or something to generate the running account balance, and some magic to pluck out the last balance amount for each month.
The trick I saw from askTom for generating a gap-less list of months looked like:
    with date_range as
(select to_date('1/1/2007','mm/dd/yyyy') mindt, sysdate maxdt from dual)
    select level, add_months(mindt,level-1) dt
    from date_range
    connect by level <= months_between(maxdt,mindt)+1
(assuming in this case the range of tx dates was Jan 1, 2007 through today).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Sorry for the lack of clarity - by closing monthly balance, I mean I want the balance of the account as of the end of each month. So, you have to keep a running balance across the transactions (including a data point for months with no transactions) and then grab the running balance out for the latest transaction in each month. I have all but that last bit (which may be answered by another recent thread that I am reading). Here is what I have so far:
    with date_range as
    (select min(transaction_date) mindt, sysdate maxdt
    from fz_transaction
    where account_id = 320001
    all_months as
    (select level, add_months(mindt,level-1) dt
    from date_range
    connect by level <= months_between(maxdt,mindt)+1
    gapless_transactions as
    (select id, transaction_date, amount
    from fz_transaction
    where account_id = 320001
    union all
    select 1 id, dt transaction_date, 0 amount
    from all_months
    running_balance as
(select id, transaction_date, sum(amount) over (order by transaction_date, id) balance
    from gapless_transactions
order by transaction_date desc, id desc
    select * from running_balance
-- Working on this last part to pull out the last entry in each month...
Note that the UNION ALL in the gapless_transactions part throws in a bogus (but harmless in this computation) $0 transaction each month so I have no gaps in any month.
Perhaps there is a more elegant strategy, but I think I'm almost there...

  • Stock closing balance report: per day

    Hi
I wonder if someone could help.
I require a report that will show me the closing stock balance over a specified period, but I want it to show the closing balance on each day, even if there is no movement.
I have used, and adapted, the following query from another thread. However I want it to show data for each day within the time period.
    Thanks, Andy

No, not entirely.  It does show Ins and Out, but only days where there is an In or an Out and it also show ALL the Ins and Outs on one day.
I need the report to show me just the closing balance for each day, and also every day even if there is no In or Out.  Basically I need the query above to show me each day rather than the aggregate for the whole date period.

  • Brought forward shown, even after end-page-total

    Hello,
I am using carry-forward and brought-forward as suggested in the user guide.
    Tag 1:
    <xdofo:inline-total display-condition="exceptfirst" name="InvAmt">brought forward:</xdofo:inline-total>
    Tag 2:
    <xdofo:inline-total display-condition="exceptfirst" name="InvAmt">
    <xdofo:show-brought-forward name="InvAmt" format="99G999G990D00"/>
    </xdofo:inline-total>
    Tag 3:
    <?end-page-total:InvAmt?>
after end-page-total, I have about 3 pages with additional text. while carry-forward is shown correctly only on the nessasary pages, the brought-forward is finaly shown on all text pages behind the end-page-total.
is this a bug, or what is my mistake?

    Hi Tim,
yes, the brought-forward is shown on every page, except the first
but no, this is not correct!
I have the following layout for my invoice:
Page 1) cover letter and start of the invoice-article-list
    Page 2 - X) if needed, repeating invoice-article-list
Page X + 1) additinal information, payment terms, shipping conditions, attached text, sometimes general conditions, may be more than one page
at the end of the invoice-article-list, i have the "end-page-total" tag.
beginning from the page containing this tag (Page X), the carry forward (at the bottom of the page) is not printed any more ("except last") even it is not the last page in total. -> behavoir is correct.
But the brought-forward with "except first" is shown on all additional pages after X. But the article list is finished, no brought forward needed any longer. -> behavoir not wanted
is that understandable or should I send you an email with my layout and an example xml?
    best regards
    Alexander

  • Closing balance of january to be carried forward as February opening bal.

    Hi Gurus,
I am looking for the script logic which helps me to carry the closing balance of a month to the next month as opening balance. Please can anyone help me with the code.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    KumarMG
Edited by: KumarMG on Jun 7, 2011 4:40 PM

    Hi Kumar,
From consolidation perspective, carry forward is a period-end activity and has to be done every period. CATEGORY dimension has a property called OPENING_PERIOD which can be used to define the source period from where you want to copy the data. The target period is defined as variable in the data manager package. So you have to run it for each period.
Normally, we bring closing balances from ECC (or any other source system) and also load supplemental movements types (F_120 etc). Then we use default logic (as shown below) to check the data integrity and post differences in error flow.
    [ACCDETAILDIM].[#F_ERR] =IIF([ACCOUNTDIM].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("DIMLIST1")="L1_E",  [ACCDETAILDIM].[F_999] - [ACCDETAILDIM].[F_100] - [ACCDETAILDIM].[F_120] + [ACCDETAILDIM].[F_140],0)
Say if you are loading periodic data from source systems (ECC) and want to calculate the closing balance from openings/movements then you can create a script logic for the same. You can also use transformation rules and post the closing balances.

  • Carry forwarding the closing  balance as opening balance

    hi,
i need  to carry forward the closing balance of the 1 month to the opening balance of the next month. how to do this in the query.?

    Hi Enthu,
I think, you could use data function of a formula.
You will have to create a RKF for closing balance of previous month.
Try the SUMCT<Closing balance of prev per> in the opening balance column of this month.
You can check the link below for further information
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/e3/e60138fede083de10000009b38f8cf/frameset.htm
However, determining all opening balances by carrying forward closing balances in the query, I think, is not a good idea, since this would mean that you have to run the query from the timepoint the data was first reported. This means querying and reporting a lot of data. I would rather suggest you to have another Cube may be over this DSO and do the carry forward in modeling.
    Hope it helps,
    Best regards,
    Sunmit.

  • HOW TO CARRY FORWARD RG1 CLOSING BALANCE TO OPENING BALANCE FOR NEW FISCAL

    Hi Experts
How to carry forward the RG1 closing stock at the year end to opening balance of Rg1 for new year.
Wt are the steps required for closing activity of RG1 and carry forward closing balance of last year to opening balance of  new year.
    Thanks

    Hi Rohan,
    For RG1 and RG23 A Part I and RG23 C Part I
    Go to SE16, here enter Table Name - J_2IRG1BAL and Click on "Create" button in initial screen, it will give the maintenance screen. Here mainatin following;
For each of these materials, you have maintained the material form in table J_2IRG1BAL as below. Do not make any entries in fields that are not listed below:
    EXGRP - Materialu2019s excise group
DATUM - Date from which RG1 report is required, normally the date of going live
    MATNR - Material
FORM - Enter P (Packed) or L (Loose). Do not leave this field blank.
WERKS - Leave this field blank.
OP FN UOM, OP BN UOM, CB FN UOM - Leave these fields blank. All quantities in this table are updated in the base unit of measure of the material
USNAM - User ID of the person filling out the table.
    CPUDT - Date of entry
    CPUTM - Time of entry
Note: - This is to be done before J1I5, J2I5.
    Also refer link;
Update of Registers RG 1 and RG 23 (Part I)
For RG23 A Part II, RG23 C Part II and PLA
    Go to SE16, here enter Table Name - J_2IACCBAL and Click on "Create" button in initial screen, it will give the maintenance screen. And maintain following;
    Excise Group
    Data element for Register names
    Date
    Plant
    Basic duty (OP BAL)
    Basic duty (CL BAL)
    Basic duty (EXAMT)
    Extract Indicator
    User name
    Entry Date
    Entered at
    Note: -
    1. Enter OP BAL, CL BAL and EXAMT all as same as opening balance. For e.g. opening balance for RG23ABED is 1400 then this value is to be entered in all the 3 fields.
    2. You have to enter separate line items for all the accounts;
    RG23ABED
    RG23ASED
    RG23AAED
    RG23CBED
    RG23CSED
    RG23CAED
    PLABED
    PLASED
    PLAAED
    PLACESS
    RG23AECS
    RG23CECS
    PLAECS
    RG23AAT1
    RG23CAT1
    PLAAT1
    3. Enter Date is one day before of the opening. For e.g. if opening date is 01.04.2008 then enter it in 31.03.2008
Then go for J2I5 - Extract and J2I6 - Print Utility

    Regards,
    Bhadri M.

    Hi Bhadri,
In your cube you will have a key fig 0BALANCE which is a calculated value. The calculation could be found in the start routine in the flow. The balance in a particular month will be carried forward in the logic. You can do the following....
I'm not sure about posting periods 000, 013 to 016....what balances needs to be carried forward to these. May be you can check with the functional folks.
Create 16 RKFs, take key fig and restrict it with 0FISCYEAR (choose user input variable on it) and 0FISCPER3 (posting period).
    For 001.2010:
Opening balance - Take 0BALANCE key fig and restrict with 012 (0r 016, check with functional. I think it should be 012) for 0FISCPER3 and put offset 0FISCYEAR variable - 1.
Debit/Credit - Take 0DEBIT/0CREDIT key fig and restrict with 001 for 0FISCPER3 and 0FISCYEAR variable.
Closing balance - Take 0BALANCE key fig and restrict with 001 for 0FISCPER3 and 0FISCYEAR variable.
    For 002.2010:
Opening balance - Take 0BALANCE key fig and restrict with 001 for 0FISCPER3 and 0FISCYEAR variable.
Debit/Credit - Take 0DEBIT/0CREDIT key fig and restrict with 002 for 0FISCPER3 and 0FISCYEAR variable.
Closing balance - Take 0BALANCE key fig and restrict with 002 for 0FISCPER3 and 0FISCYEAR variable.
    Similarly create other RKFs.

  • Balance Carry Forward To wrong account

    Hi,
When we do balance carry forward to the next fiscal year via Tcode: GVTR, it gives a message 'balance carry forward to fiscal year 2005 successfully'
But when we display trial balance report, the balance is carried forward to the same P&L account instead of Retained Earnings account.
The balance in the Retained Earnings account remains unaffected for Eg. 2004 as compared to 2005, the closing balance of 2004 is same as the opening balance of 2005, there is no change.
We just upgraded to mySAP ERP last month.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi,
In Financial Accounting Global Settings menu, go to the Tools section. There is a menu option for "Deactivate Update of Classic General Ledger (GLT0)". Check whether the update of GLT0 has been deactivated or not at this point.
    Hope it helps.

    Hi,
You have to make use of many tables for this purpose.
    1. You have to claculate the previuos period and finscal year for the given date..
    2. You have to calculate the G/L balances for this period for the given G/L account from table GLT0.(You can use some of the standard function modules for the same)
    3. You have get the line items from the various tables like BSIS,BSAS,BSIK, BASK, BSID and BSAD for the dates from the begining of the month to the given date-1. sum upthis amount with the amount retrieved from step 2 .This will be the opening balance for the given date.
4.retrieve the data from he same tables like step 3 for the given date. This will the transactions of the given date.
    5. sum up  the amounts from step 4 with step 3. this will be the closing balance for that date.
let me know id you want any further info..

    Hi Expert,
I would like understand about the balance carried forward for AP and AR in the New GL.
When executing the program in test run mode, user will download the balances and try to tie to the recon accts in trial balance. The openning balance generated by the program should tie to the last fiscal year closing balance. But apparently, it is not. There is a difference. And after checking, the difference seem to the opening balance that aready exist in the new FY.
So, when executing the carried forward program, is the system transferring only the difference ? New posting or items not yet carried forward ?
    Thanks.
    Angel.

    Hi,
FAGLGVTR - Balance Carryforward (New)  for GL carry forward
F.07 - Balance Carryforward for AR/AP carry forward
When you execute these programs system will carryforward all closing balance to subsequent year opening balance.  Any postings happened in previous year will dynamically carried forward to subsequent year after executing this program.  If you find any mismatch, you can again execute this program.  It will not create any impact.
    Hope this clarifies your doubt.
    Best Regards,
    Madhu

  • Balance Carried Forward problem

    Hi Experts,
when running the Ledger for one range of posting period, the customeru2019s line items and cumulative balances are separated into 2 different reconciliation accounts.
While running for the next yearu2019s posting period , the Carry Forward Balances of Customers from previous year are aggregiated into one G/L account ,other account 0 balance is carried forwarded.
My program is fetching from table KNC1 which will have Balance carry forward of the two combined accounts which is going to 1st account.
Please let me know any table or FM where I can get Balance Carry Forward with passing Fiscal Year, Customer Code, GL Account_.( KNC1 table doesn't help in my case)_
    Please let me know.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kiran.

First look at [Fiscal Year Change Documents|https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/fiscalyearchange]
    Then look for those BAPI
    - BAPI_AR_ACC_GETCURRENTBALANCE  Closing balance of customer account in current fiscal year
    - BAPI_AR_ACC_GETKEYDATEBALANCE  Customer account balance at a key date
