BPC 7.0 SP07 - Multi Server Install

Hi All,
We are just starting the process of installing BPC 7.0 SP07 and trying to decide what components to add on a two server architecture. This is what we are planning to do:
Server 1 (64 bit) consists of: SQL, OLAP and Reporting servers
Server 2 (32 bit) consists of: Application, web and FileShare servers
We thought of this architecture because application and web servers cannot be installed on 64 bit OS. Please let us know if we are going in the right path or not and are there any potential problems we will run into.
Also, I downloaded BPC 7.0 SP07 since that is the latest service pack available. I had to download three different zip files - server, language and client for SMS packages. Where as the SP03 had only one zip file. I don't know why there are three different zip files and at what point during installation I need to use those. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
The architecture you designed is ok. Now there are some things you can take in consideration:
1. Usually, the reporting Services is better to be on the application server. This because it need iis and iis installed on db server cand be an open door to the server.
2. If you have a cluster for SQL server - you can put the fileshare on the DB side (added to cluster - solves the file-over problem)
Regarding the installation files you downloaded:
language is related to languages patch in case you want to use BPC in a different language than english
sms installation kit  - silent client installation.
Hope this can help,
Mihaela

  • BPC multi server install local + domain installation

    Hi all,
Is it possible to install a BPC multi server local + domain installation?
will be installing BPP app server locally, using local admin
and install BPC DB server using domain account?
    will that be possible?
Company wants BPC users to be maintained locally in 1 server, but the DB will be maintained by domain administrator
    THanks!

    Hi Jeb,
The authentication to IIS level is done with local user but after that all the operation between application server and database server are impersonate and are using the installation user which has full access.
I hope you stored the webfolders into application server because if you didn't do that again you will have a problem with access.
File server will be access at is working using NTFS rights.
So if you store the File Server into db server again you will have access problems because the users from application server will not be able to access the file server.
If you have File Server into application server then it muust be ok.
You said the connection wizard is working fine ...so the only problem which I see it seems to be related to file server.
Check the the rights to Webfolders and make sure you are not into situation mentioned before.

  • Installing BPC 7.5 on Windows Server 2003.

    Hi all.
I'm installing BPC 7.5 on Windows Server 2003.
The step: Sap bpc installation - "check server environments" is taking too long.
    Is that normal???

    Hi Gisele,
no that step does not usually take very long (a few minutes at most).
Did you check that your server meets the requirements as listed in the instalation guide?

    Hi John,
    thanks for your reply.
I was able to make a clean installation yesterday.
The reason why I got the error message from diagnostic report of administration manager "Olap Server and -service not found":

  • Multi server data retrieval performance

    Hi experts,
I have a question regarding the data retrieval performance (EVDRE) on a multi server installation environment on Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
We have succesfully migrated Outlooksoft 4.2 SP03 to SAP BPC 7.0 SP07 for a customer. During this project we have also set up a complete new server environment consisting of:
Development server: dedicated single server, Windows 2003 Standard SP2 32 bit, SQL Server 2008 SP1 with cumulative update package 6, SAP BPC 7.0 SP07, 2 quad core processors, 4 GB RAM
QA server: dedicated multi servers - 1 database server (SQL/OLAP), Windows 2003 Standard SP2 64 bit, SQL Server 2008 SP1 with cumulative update package 6, 2 quad core processors, 32 GB RAM - 1 dedicated application/web server, Windows 2003 Standard SP2 32 bit, SQL Server 2008 SP1 with cumulative update package 6 (shared components / reporting services), SAP BPC 7.0 SP07, 2 quad core processors, 4 GB RAM
Production server: dedicated multi servers - 1 database server (SQL/OLAP/Reporting services), Windows 2003 Standard SP2 64 bit, SQL Server 2008 SP1 with cumulative update package 6, 2 quad core processors, 32 GB RAM - 2 dedicated application/web server, Windows 2003 Standard SP2 32 bit, SQL Server 2008 SP1 with cumulative update package 6 (shared components), SAP BPC 7.0 SP07, 2 quad core processors, 4 GB RAM
Furthermore, two terminal servers with the SAP BPC client.
All servers have good performancve and we have great times on cube processing and SQL processing. However, to our great surprise we find that the single development server is much faster with a single user to retrieve data using EVDRE than the multi-server environment. About 2x as fast. A reporting book with more then 10 sheets and about 25 EVDRE's takes about 42 seconds on the development server and 93 seconds on the multi server.
It seems that EVDRE is taking up a lot of time to communicate between the application server and the database server in a multi server environment while being much faster on a single server. This is not what we want :-). The network speed in the domain consist of all 1 GB lines so that should not be the issue.
Do you have any experience with this? How can we upgrade the speed of the multi server, are there specific settings?
Hope the get some useful answers. Thanks in advance.
    Damien

    Hi,
You have to activate also the EVDRE logs on the client and server level, just to understand from where is coming the problem (appserver-db comuncication or client-appserver communication). You have to check also if there is any proxy firewall between client and application server.
In case you are using NLB, please verify if afinity is setup to true.
The performance problems can be come from db level. Did you verify how many records do you have into WB table for the specific application? Are you keeping the DB in full mode? How big is the log of the databse?
The are a lot of things that can have impact of this, but it looks to be a setup problem.
    Hope this can help you,
    Mihaela

  • Multi-server Environment without Windows Domain

    Hi,
Has anyone had experience with installing SAP BPC in a multi- server environment without using Microsoft Active Directory as a domain. (ie just using local users for everything).
Do we need to create a domain in order in successfully install and use the BPC? If that is the case, which server is best suited to install the domain on?
    Many thanks

    Hi,
Do you have at least a domain for hosting your servers ? Without an administrative domain for computer and technical accounts I doubt you could even make BPC work in a multi-servers environment.
If you don't have a domain for your users, you may (but i will never recommend it), create all your users localy. But you will have to create them on all BPC servers with same name / same password. Password adminisration will be a real mess as you will have to change the password on all machine each time the user want to change it. And this will not be done by the end-user but by IT staff. Also, users will not be able to use Windows Integrated Authentication functionnality.
So basically, yes use a domain for computer and users. The most easy architecture is to use a single domain for both computer and users.
If you have to install a Windows AD, I would take a look at Microsoft white paper and KB. But I think that you have to dedicate at least 1 machine for it (best is to have 2 servers for fault tolerance).

  • How to uninstall BPC 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hello Everyone
I have to uninstall BPC 7.5 and then perform a re installation as the Domain Name was wrongly specified in previous installation. We already have a BW server installed and on top of it the BPC 7.5 Installation was carried out.
    O.S: Windows Server 2008 R2
    D.B: MS SQL Server 2008
Could someone please suggest me the best possible way to uninstall BPC server without harming BW system? Kindly reply.
    Thanks and Regards
    Ahmed

    Hello Everybody
I ran Server-->Diagnostics and found that there were 2 errors:
    1) SAP Server Connection->Database Connection->Status:Connection Error
    2) Message Queue-> Queue Name: Private$\BpcStatusMessageQueue>Status:Incorrect>Possible Reasons->BPC WebServer or IE Proxy cannt work.
I have .NET 2.o installed and the value of "Enable 32 bit applications to run on 64 is set to True". I checked for users BPC_SYSADMIN, BPC_Admin, BPC_USER are all able to login to BW system.  Also the value of message queue under private queue is same as the one Private$\BPCStatusMessageQueue.
Where do i need to check for logs for these errors.Could someone suggest how to resolve them.
    Thanks Everybody.

  • Workflow Custom Activity deploy in multi server environment

I have been working on a project that involves developing a custom workflow activity for SharePoint 2013. I am developing it in a single server environment working with http.
My problem occurs when deploying to multi-server environment with https (WFE, APP). My question is how to deploy my solution to the new environment.
    The steps:
    Create a project - c# activity library
Add a workflow activity, add .xml
Deploy the .dll and .xml of project to:
    "C:\Program Files\Workflow%20Manager\1.0\Workflow\Artifacts" "C:\Program Files\Workflow Manager\1.0\Workflow\WFWebRoot\bin"
    net sotp "Workflow Manager Backend"
    net start "Workflow Manager Backend"
    Deploy .DLL to GAC
        - Created MSI using install shield in VS2010 to add .DLL to GAC
        - Verify .DLL in GAC by going to c:\windows\assembly and %windir%\Microsoft.NET\assembly
    iisrest
Deploy WSP to SharePoint, activate feature, open SharePoint Designer 2013 and choose the custom action that now appears when creating a 2013 workflow
To recap we have workflow manager on the APP server and and the workflow client on the WFE. We deployed the .DLL and .XML to the workflow manager (APP) only. The .DLL is deployed
to/in the GAC on the WFE and the APP. We are able to see and create the activity in Designer 2013 and we deploy the workflow to a normal SharePoint list. When we run the workflow we do not get any errors in the ULS logs, event viewer or Workflow Manager Debug
Logs (event viewer also). The site is not created though. We believe the issue is that the custom C# (.DLL) is not being ran.
This all works fine and dandy on my single server environment. Workflow is working like a charm. How can we trouble shoot what the issue is if we are not finding any errors?
Is there a step that we missed or some other place we need to look for logs? Would the ULS logs show the site creation or show running our custom code? Currently it does not show anything when we run the workflow.
Let me know if this is unclear or if anyone needs more information. Thanks

    Hi,
Here is a workaround for your reference:
We can develop a custom WCF service instead of the Custom Activity in SharePoint. And then use the service from workflow. It use a separate dedicated server for workflow without having any reference to SharePoint DLLs from inside workflow.

  • Multi-Server Monitor log outs repeatedly

I recently installed ColdFusion Enterprise 10 and set up 3 instances on the same server and then set up multi server monitoring for my three instances. The problem is logging into one CF admin on one port logs you out of the other. This appears to be affecting the multiserver monitor as well making it utterly useless. From the overview dashboard you can see the servers logging in and out repeatedly. Is this is a bug or is there something obvious here I'm missing?

  • Multi server domain in weblogic

    Hi,
Please list the steps for creating a multi server domain in weblogic 10.3.3.Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
For detail you can follow the installation guide.
Here's a general step for WebLogic:
    1. PS_HOME/setup/PsMpPIA/setup.exe - to install PIA
    2. Choose the multi server domain while on the page requesting the type of domain
    3. With Proper value specified such as portal, psreports, site name, etc. Complete the installation
    4. Go to your PIA_HOME/bin folder
    5. Start WebLogic Admin - startWebLogicAdmin.cmd
    6. Start your PIA domain - startManagedWebLogic.cmd PIA
(You also can use install NT services to install a <domain_name>-<Server Name> service under NT to start automatically)

  • LMS 4.0 Multi-Server setup

I have a problem setting up a multi-server setup. On my remote LMS/slave servers, I can import the Peer Certificate from my master LMS server and on the slave servers I can import the Master server cert. However, when I go to the Single Sign-On of the slave server it states that the cert is not installed/valid. So, I go back to the Peer Server Certificate setup and look at the cert imported and states it is valid. All self signed certificates.
Question: Should I make new self signed certs for each server? Or/How do I make new cert within LMS(I believe in the setup you added the values)? Is there a log in LMS that I can check this process?
From reading the docs, I don't see anything. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    John

There is a perl script, sslutil.pl, in your LMS installation (under $nmsroot\MDC\Apache) that will allow you to validate your server's certificate. Assuming a  default installation on Windows, you can use:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\bin\perl.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\MDC\Apache\sslutil.pl"
    from a command window
My experience (using 3rd party signed certifcates) is that LMS is very particular abou the ownership (casuser needs to own) of the file and directory in which the certificate and key files are stored.

  • SharePoint Multi-Server Farm with LB and SQL Cluster.

    Helllo,
We are setting up a Multi Server SharePoint 2013 Farm with a Load-Balancer.
We are also using SQL Server 2012, Two Node Cluster.
We have SQL Server Instance Running as a Service. Also I managed to install PowerPivot for SharePoint as a Instance.
Looking at various article's I have question if this Cluster Setup supported in SharePoint 2013.
Can the SharePoint Farm use this PowerPivot Instance as a failover service?
Or do I have to install Analysis services separately on Both SQL Nodes?
If so how do I configure Excel Services on SharePoint?
    Thank you
    Sham

PowerPivot is installed on the SharePoint server and is a scale-out service (you just install it on multiple SharePoint servers and make sure the Service Instance is started in SharePoint). Same with Excel Calc Services (but for this one you don't have
to install anything, just start it).

  • CF installer server or multi-server configuration

Previous versions of CF installer allow you to install either server or multi-server configuration.
This made it hard to change a CF box from server to multi-server since you would have to re-install CF to apply change.
CF10 installer lets you install stand-alone installation. After installing ColdFusion in stand-alone mode, you can create multiple instances (provided you have an Enterprise or Dev license).
Nice. Easy to alter a CF box from server to multi-server.
    Thanks, Carl.

    Hi,
i read the issue in detail. however it is hard to troubleshoot via froum.
To such  issue, it is not an efficient way to work in this community since we may need more resources, for example memory (application) dump or ETL trace, which is not appropriate to handle in community. I’d like to suggest that you submit a service request to MS Professional tech support service so that a dedicated Support Professional can further assist with this request.

  • Starting ColdFusion Multi-Server Instances - Correct Method

Can someone please provide me with the correct method of starting multi-server instances of ColdFusion from the command line?
    I have been using:
/<jrun4 home>/bin/jrun -nohup -start cfusion  (for the cfusion instance)
/<jrun4 home>/bin/jrun -nohup -start <coldfusion instance 2>  (for a second instance of coldfusion)
    etc.
I see however that when the second instance of coldfusion (<coldfusion instance 2>) is started from the ColdFusion Administrator (Enterprise Manager - Instance Manager), it appears as the following:
    /<jrun4 home>/bin/jrun -nohup -start -childVM <coldfusion instance 2>
What is the purpose of the -childVM switch that appears to be used when starting the instance from the ColdFusion Administrator (Enterprise Manager - Instance Manager)?  Should it be used when manually starting the instance from the command line?
Is there an online reference for the jrun swithces to be used when starting ColdFusion instances?  I have not been able to find any.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

This is one are were you won't find too many good docs on.
I have two servers running CentOS in a cluster, with each server running two CF 8.1 servers in a cluster on each server. So I have 4 CF prod servers.
The problem you will find is that the admin server interface can stop/start a service, but it uses the same jvm.config file as with thich the admin server was started. I have searched a lot, but couldn't find a solution to start the servers from the admin console. So I start them vir the "service" option on the OS level.
So I build a script were I can start each server with its own jvm.config file. Madness to allocate 1Gig of mem for the admin server just so that the other servers can get 1Gig as well.
    Here is my startup script:
    [root@clu1 logs]# cat /etc/init.d/coldfusion8multi
    #!/bin/sh
    # chkconfig: 345 90 14
    # description: starts the MultiServer cfusion instance
    if [ -f /etc/rc.common ]; then
    . /etc/rc.common
    fi
    # Start ColdFusion 8 Multiserver
    # Because this is a start up script, and will be run by root, we use a specific
    # user (the user who installed) to run ColdFusion
    CF_DIR="/opt/cfusion/clu1_man"
    RUNTIME_USER=""cfusion""
    su $RUNTIME_USER -c "$CF_DIR/bin/jrun -start cfusion >& $CF_DIR/logs/cfusion-event.log &"
    su $RUNTIME_USER -c "$CF_DIR/bin/jrun -config $CF_DIR/bin/jvm.config_clu1 -start clu1_01 >& $CF_DIR/logs/cfusion-event.log &"
    su $RUNTIME_USER -c "$CF_DIR/bin/jrun -config $CF_DIR/bin/jvm.config_clu2 -start clu1_02 >& $CF_DIR/logs/cfusion-event.log &"
    Hope it helps a bit.
