BPC 7.0MS SP6 on VMWare

Anyone using BPC 7M in a virtualized environment? I understand SAP does not recommend virtualized servers for production use but tryng to figure out if anyone has had any success with this approach in production.
Also, is there any documentation related to implementing a high availability solution for BPC? We are looking into the various options for our business continuity needs.
Thanks in advance for your insight!
Hitesh

Hi Hitesh
SAP does not support running BPC in a virtualized environment for production use.
While it does work, as related by other responses to your post, some of the reasons why it is not supported is because it adds a lot of variables.
What I mean is that the management of the virtualisation system can make it great, or can make it terrible. For example, it ia always tempting to try to utilise hardware as fully as possible, but unfortunately, most virtualization products let you overcommit the system. Like sharing CPU cores or RAM between VMs. If a core is allocated to more than one VM, then its availability will be split between those VMs. But the OS in the VM will not be aware of that fact. So you could end up with a big VM, with really bad performance.
On Dev or QA environments, of course it's not that critical.
You can look at this How-to Guide for more information:
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/40d22444-97d5-2b10-1785-fbde2e32c5a8
So in the end, it's your call. But do you really want a production environment that will not be supported?

  • Analyzer Security for SAP BPC 7.5 SP6

    Hi ,
We have recently installed Analyzer add-in on our excel for Adhoc reporting on SAP BPC 7.5 SP6
But analyzer is not considering the data security restricted for specific region.
For eg: If a planner is assinged to EUROPE planning role and when he creates reports using analyzer he is able to see the data for all the regions(NA,EMEA,ASIAPAC).
Is there anyway we can restrict the planners to see the data relevant to their role in Analyzer.
we had a look at security in Admin client. Is there anyway to handle this. Thanks much.
    Regards,
    Sanjeev

    Hi,
You can use Bex analyzer for detailed reporting. Both the analyzer and BPC reports can be connected using the normal excel functionalities (in a single excel workbook) so that BPC CV selection will be fed into Bex as variables and relevant data records are displayed in Bex reports. Performance of Bex analyzer is slow. That is one of the main reason it was replaced with BO reporting tools.
If you are using BPC 7.5NW, then there is a standard functionality called DRILL THROUGH. Using this functionality you can drill down to detailed data in BW.
Bex and BPC have different authorizations. You can maintain authorizations in BW roles and try to manually replicate same authorizations in BPC (there is also a how-to doc on automating this synchronization).

  • EVDRE Access Issue Post Upgrade from BPC 5.1 SP3 to BPC 7.0 SP6

    Greetings,
Recently upgraded from BPC 5.1SP3 to BPC 7.0 SP6.  Experiencing some strange behavior regarding the ability to send data to BPC from an EVDRE.  Both users are part of the same secuity team, thus have the same security in both versions.  However, one is able to send data to BPC 7.0 SP6 for a specific input template while the other recieves a message "There is no data to refresh."    This message is not encountered in BPC 5.1 SP3.
The strange thing is that the user who receives the "there is no data to refresh" is able to rebuild the input template ad hoc and send data to BPC
I have reviewed security, cleared the cache on the user's machine.  I had the user with this issue log onto the app server; she encountered the same behavior regarding this template.  Also tested a seperate input template in another application, this issue did not occurr.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Greg Lakin

    Hi, n
From your description it looks like the problem si more related to that specific user. Please try to reprocess the security for that user. Then go on file server and go into <appset>/<application>/<private publication>/<user name> and delete appinfo.zip.
Other idea can be related to the excel cache, but I don;t know why is not working for this specific user. You can try to save it in a new template as Patrick indicated.
You can try also clear local application information from admin client or try from other machine using the same client.
    Hope this can hekp you,

  • BPC 7.0MS Performance problem

    Hello All
We are working on SAP BPC 7.0MS - SQL Server 2005 and are facing performance issues for reports.
Some reports retrieving close to 60k records using EVGET formulaes do not open, while it works fine in OS 4.2 version and opens in 1-2 minutes.
To add, we donot see any activity on SQL server for first 2-3 minutes after opening these reports.
We even tried by redesigning the reports with EVDRE, but it does not help.
Please suggest how we can improve this performance.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions
    Abhishek

    Hi all
We have upgraded to SQL 2008 in our test environment but still the report based on EVGET responds in 8-9 minutes.
Although the response time for EVDRE based reports have improved to 2 minutes.
We donot have any complex dimension formulae.
Since currently we have more reports based on EVGET calculation, please suggest how I can improve there performance.
    Thanks

  • BPC 7.5 SP6 Backup & Restore of AppSet

Hi - We are currently on BPC 7.5 SP6 and I'm trying to do a backup of an app set from production and restore it to dev.  The backup and restore seems to work fine.  I don't get any errors and I can see the data on back-end.
But, when I open a template from the restored version in dev and do an expand, no data is brought back.  I'm using transaction UJBR, selecting Execute Restore, in Foreground, using the same app set name as production, restoring metadata, master data and transaction data.  I also selected to use tech names from backup files.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi ,
After Back up Appset Restore Did you process your dimensions, and also by doing refresh dimension members and then create sample EVDRE report to see if new data is reflecting.
You can also look in to PC_NW client logs if any error occurs there and check in UJA_datachecker see if find any info.
    Thanks,
    Kiran

  • BPC 7.0MS Validation Report isn't displayed

    Hello colleage,
This question is related to the following thread.
    [BPC - Submitted data did not pass validation|Re: BPC - Submitted data did not pass validation;
    <Procedure>
    -eSubmit > Validate submission
    -The message is displayed:
"Submitted data did not pass validation; you may need to resubmit it.
A Validation report cannot be generated because there is no Validation report template."
I think that Validation report can be opened on this timing.
    Are there missing settings?
If you have any information or ideas, could you please help me?
    <Setting>
    Application Parameter
    LOCKREPORT: Validate.xlt

    Hi Ki Ogino,
We have tested the behaviour for the same scenario.
You get this error, if the template is opened from the /INPUT SCHEDULE/WIZARD or the template not accessible from the relevant location.
Otherwise, able to succesfully validate the data submission by both ways:
    1. eSubmit :: Validate Submission
    2. Send Data :: Validate Submission before sending.
The issue noticed is that data not refreshed / displayed in the input template after succesful sending into BPC database, whereas the same data can be viewed by new template or ANYBYANY report.
Setting -- APPLICATION PARAMETER for LOCKREPORT.
The report launches when submission validation for a data region is not u20180u2019 in BPC Excel. The template should be located in the eExcel\Report\ folder., though it is currently available in the path eExcel\Input Schedules\Wizard\Validate.xlt.
    Try this.
    Cheers

  • How to setup consolidation environment in BPC 7.0MS SP05

Hi  I am completely new to the MS version of BPC7.0.
We have to implement the Consolidations for our client. I would like to know how can we setup consolidations environemnt in BPC7.0MS. I have a document on the same for NW7.0. Could you guys have anyinformation on the Consolidations on BPC7.0MS version
What are the considerations to take before working on consolidations using MS7.0BPC.
    Thanks in Advance
    AK

    Hi,
The first step in setting up a legal consolidation application set is to ensure the dimensions are set up properly. Each application must contain some required dimensions, while some other dimensions are optional.
The dimensions discussed here are based on the standards used in the business rules. Other dimensions can co-exist in a reporting application but do not impact the business rule function. All applications must contain the four required ENTITY, CATEGORY, TIME and ACCOUNT dimensions (but can be named as desired). The remaining dimensions have the following rules:
u2022 The CURRENCY/GROUP dimension is required for the consolidation and/or currency business rules
u2022 The INTCO dimension used for matching inter-company activity
u2022 The DATASRC dimension is required for elimination and/or consolidation business rules
u2022 The SUBTABLE (flow) dimension is optional, and based on your requirements
You can also choose to set up the following business rules tables for consolidation:
    u2022 Currency conversion
    u2022 Account transformation
    u2022 Intercompany Bookings
    u2022 US Eliminations
    u2022 Carry-forward rules
    u2022 Validations
    u2022 Automatic Adjustments
You will have to look at each of the business rules to undertand their functionalities.
Hope this gives you the basic understanding.

  • Proactive caching Error while installing BPC 7.0 SP6

    All,
We are installing BPC 7.0 sp 6 on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (RTM) - 10.0.1600.22 (Intel X86)   Jul  9 2008 14:43:34   Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation  Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 <X86> (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
In short SQL 2008 Standard Edition. Will BPC 7.0 work with it?
We tried to install the BPC and recived the "Proactive caching" errors. I know we will need this feature for ROLAP.
Can we keep Standard Edition and make it work? Or we will need EE of SQL for BPC to work?
    Thanks for your help.
    Sam
Edited by: Sam Patel on Mar 24, 2010 10:05 AM

SQL Server EE is required for all SAP BPC Microsoft versions.
BPC is using functionalities from SSAS delivery just with EE.
Proactive caching is one the features available just into EE not into SE. But are also other features used by BPC from SSAS which can be found just into EE.
It is true that actually just for SSAS we require EE, for all other componetnts we don't really need EE.
So the installation will work, but of course you will have some limitations coming from Microsoft.
For example SQL Server SE is able to handle maximum 4 processors.
RS can not be installed into Web farm if you are using SE
    And many others.
I hope this will help you to have a bteer view about what is reguired and why.

    Hi Pablo,
Then the problem is with the Active X settings. I would request you ro re-visit the active x settings in the system.
In addition, check the below as well.
    1. Copy x:\bpc\websrvr\web\<installation directory>\xceedzip.dll from the application server to your client machines in x:\program files\bpc;
    2. Unregister it and re-register it, using resp. regsvr32 -u "x:\Program files\BPC\XCeedzip.dll" and regsvr32 "x:\Program files\BPC\XCeedZip.dll" at DOS commmand prompt;
    3. Copy x:\bpc\websrvr\web\<installation directory>\xceedzip.dll from the appserver to x:\bpc\websrvr\bin;

    5. Finally, from the Administration Console, on the Application Set node, click Refresh client-side dimensfion files;
    Hope it helps.

  • SAP BPC 7.5 SP6 on Win 7 x64bit & MS Off 2010 - Path not Found errors

    Hi,
We have currently started a test group of 16 users to test Win 7 before migrate the entire company. Some of the test users are in Accounting and they use SAP BPC 7.5 for their Budget and Forecasting. We have Win 7 x64 bit and MS Office 2010 installed. For one user, after logging into the Production server for BPC he opens the report library and he is unable to get certain macros to allow for different changes within the excel spreadsheet. For example, there is a section that asks him to change the company name. When he clicks on the field to do so it says "Path Not Found".
Another user when he tries to open up a report, he gets "Loading Dimension information..(Customer)" then a popup comes and says File not found. We have tried to uninstall and reinstall BPC on the new machines to no avail.
Any help you can provide would be great. If more information is needed, please let me know.
    Thanks,

    IT Security Administrator

    Hi Lakiasha,
Could you re-install .NET 2.0, .Net 3.0. .Net 3.5 framework on the machines and check the results.
I guess you may need to upgrade your BPC server as well as client version to SP8 ( minimum) to work with MS office 2010.

any idea? Which parameters define the next members, ie how it determines that NEXT(1) of 2009.MAR is 2009.APR?
    thanks for your help,

    Hi,
I don't have NEXT property. I just have a PRIOR property which is correclty defined except for january. I think that is the problem. I'm going to add PRIOR property value on january members.

  • Problem Launching BPC for Excel in Terminal Services/Citrix Environment

    Hello.
We are having an issue launching BPC in our terminal services/citrix environment. This is not the main way that users will be accessing BPC, but we plan to have it available for off-hours/off-site use.
Here are details on our environment.
    1) BPC version: 5.0.502 (5.1, SP3, patch 4)
    2) Env: 1 web/app server, 1 database server
    3) SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, SP2
    4) Problem occurs sporadically for any user.
In some instances, launching BPC for Excel does not bring up the connection wizard, instead, an error message displays saying "Object Variable is not set". We then logoff, delete the terminal services profile, and logon again, forcing the creation of a new terminal services profile, and BPC for Excel will launch the connection wizard as expected. So it seems that the terminal services profile sometimes gets corrupted. Does someone know which Windows registry key would cause this situation so we can determine the root problem? Deleting the profile is not a practical permanent solution. This is only an issue in terminal services/citrix, no other environment.
I opened this with support, but they said it's my problem. I'd appreciate any ideas to solve this. Thanks, Nancy

    Hello,
I have exactly the same problem too (Citrix / BPC 7.0M SP6 Client).
Do you have a solution regarding this issue ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Do BPC Hierarchies (i.e. ParentH2) have to be migrated?

We are using BPC 7.5 SP6.  We migrate changes (via CTS, customizing requests) from Development to QA to Production via the standard transaction UJBPCTR (or call the program UJT_CRT_BPC_TR via SE38).
If I create a new hierarchy in one of my dimensions (i.e. create a ParentH2), does this have to be migrated or do we just do it manually in each ADMIN client (i.e. DEV, QA, PROD)?  I know that it is not a dimension property (and we migrate dimension propery/attributes) but I don't know for sure if Hierarchy adds are different.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vicki

    Hi Eu,
I don't know if there is something 'special' about the very first migration or not but from what I have learned, the ParentHx hierarchies are not migrated.  I agree with the comment that the ParentHx hierarchies are 'master data' and are updated in each client individually.  I was only learning BPC when we did our first migration from DEV to QA.  As soon as we did that migration we then loaded the dimensions in QA.  I normally just take a copy of the entire dimension and paste it in.  I never stopped to look at the dimension properties after the migration but before I loaded the dimension in QA.
I think you are completely fine.  It is just a matter of loading your QA dimension with whatever hierarchies you want going forward.  It seems to be fine to even have different hierarchies between clients (i.e. say just ParentH1 in DEV but ParentH1 and ParentH2 in QA) although I personally never do that.  I'm a big proponent of keeping things consistent with the exception of when you are devoping a new design where your earlier clients might be different than QA and production as you work through your testing.

  • BPC Excel - EvDRE & Named Ranges

    Hi
I have an EvDRE showing sales by Customer, I also have a named range referencing the results, the named range is D20:D50, however, when I refresh the EvDRE the named range changes by itself, and starts from the last row of the previous EvDRE results, i.e. it becomes D51:D81.
Does anyone have any tricks for preventing it from doing this ?, I've tried $D$20:$D$50, but it still changes itself, and I've also tried not using a named range at all, and just using $D$20:$D$50 directly in my formula, but that corrupts when I refresh. I cannot unfortunately use D:D as I am Ranking the results.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind Regards
    Gav

    Hi all,
I can confirm that I am having the same error with BPC 7.0MS with the latest patches even after inserting the DO_COMPRESS 0 parameter in the dbo.tblDefaults table. I am trying to make an expansion on TIME dimension such as:
    2002.TOTAL,BAS(2002.TOTAL),2003.TOTAL,BAS(2003.TOTAL)...
which works with only 2 elements like 2002.TOTAL,BAS(2002.TOTAL), so I rule out the source of the problem being wrong member names in rows or something like that.
    Anybody has any suggestion?
    Regards,
    Rafa
