Brand New MBP 15 RD, no Org/Grn light on MagSafe2 - unable to start MBP as battery is completely drained out! Won't charge with 2 different MgS2 chargers! Help/ideas?
I bought a brand new Macbook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013) model. After unpacking, I plugged in the MagSafe2 power adaptor to the MagSafe2 port and everything looked fine.
However, after charging the battery to 100%; I disconnected the MagSafe2 power adaptor. When the battery charge percentage fell to below 25%, I reconnected the MagSafe2 power adaptor and noticed that the Orange light (indicating that the battery is being charged) was not lit.
Furthermore, when I let the battery die out to 0%; the battery won't recharge and neither an Orange or Green light on the MagSafe2 power adaptor. I had bought a spare adaptor for work and the same issue with this MagSafe2 power adaptor. So it was certain that the problem wasn't with the MagSafe2 power adaptor but rather with the MagSafe2 port on the Macbook Pro!
I took the Macbook Pro and MagSafe2 power adaptor to the local authorized Apple Service Provider who decided to hold onto my gear for 3-4 days to ascertain the source of the problem! Unfortunately no Apple Retail Stores or Genius Bars in the country that I live in.
All in all, very frustrating to know that your brand new Macbook Pro costing USD 3,300 is faulty straight out of the box!
You said:

Do they still have it?
From your indications there is a faulty IO board
Contact Apple for return options given your location issue and no proximity to an Apple shop.
Peace to you.

20 minute charge needed to reboot MBP after battery is completely drained
When my battery runs out and I connect the charger my MBP does not immediately reboot. It will not boot until the battery has been charged for 20-30 minutes. This just started recently. Anything I can do to fix this? Thanks
Normally when the computer shuts down when the battery runs out it actually retains some charge so it can shut everything down. It may be that your battery is actually getting to the point the computer thinks there is enough residual charge to shut down when in fact it is actually less. So it has to charge for 20 mins before it will reboot. Just a theory mind you. Have you carried out a 'calibration' of your battery recently? If not try a battery 'calibration' take a look here:

Help! Brand new MBP and Mid '04 23" Cinema Display cable issue!
Just got a new MBP, and I can't figure out which adapter I need to use my trusty 23" display. The mini display port to dual-link DVI adapter doesn't look right, and I already know the mini display port to DVI adapter doesn't work.
Will the dual-link version work? If not, what do I do?
Thank you kindly in advance! You need the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter

Aperture 3 not working on brand new MBP???
Just tried to open Aperture 3 on my brand new MBP and I get this error message:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
I downloaded A3 from the Mac Store, I've deleted it and re-installed and still get the same message. My MBP is running 10.6.8.
Any ideas, hope you can help.
Thanks!Hi, Thanks! The solution on the Macrumors forum worked! A plugin manager issue!
I've copied the solution below for anyone else who may run into the issue.
Turns out it's a simple fix.
For those with the same problem:
1. Navigate to: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
2. Delete the PluginManager
3. Get a new copy of the PluginManager. (You can copy one from a friends macbook) or use the one hosted here: http://qvenon.com/files/PluginManager.zip
Thanks again!

Hey i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge
i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge. I tried using a friends MBP charger of the same year as my computer but it still says not charging at the top right corner of the computer screen where the charging symbol is. This problem just happened out of nowhere because it was working the day before then the next day it just stopped working saying it is not charging. I tired doing all of the suggested techniques to fix it but not luck.
This is the battery report is when my MBP is either connected to my charger or my friends charger which works perfectly on her computer.

Kernel Panic and a strange sound on a two days brand new MBP 17" i7
I just got a brand new MBP 17" i7 two days ago. Already had two issues:
1. On the first day while the computer was doing an automatic software update I heard a loud horn type sound coming from within the machine. After that the screen turned grey with the Apple logo and a status bar underneath. After that the machine returned to the "normal" screen and keep working.
2. Yesterday while trying to set up a mighty mouse the computer gave me the kernel panic screen. I turned the computer off and then on again and everything seems fine.
I contact Apple and they gave me two options for my peace of mind:
1. Take the computer to an Apple Genius bar
2. Send the machine back to the store
I own an iMac and a Macbook and this things had never happened before. I don't think it's normal for a brand new computer to do things like that.
This incidents took place within the first two day of receiving the computer, but maybe down the road or as I start installing programs like Final Cut Studio 3 or Office for Mac, things could complicate...
What do you recommend?Hi there.
The noise you heard and the status bar is usually the result of a firmware update being installed. Nothing to be concerned with and in fact will probably happen again if they just swap out the machine.
The kernel panic may have just been a fluke but you could try running the Apple Hardware Diagnostics that actually shipped with the machine to rule out hardware. If the tests come back ok then you could try to just re-install the OS.
Good luck. -
Magic mouse lag on brand new MBP
Hello,
I received my MBP 15" (Mid 2012) several days ago. But my Magic Mouse doesn't work very well with it. The cursor lags every several minutes to one hour or two, and lasts for several seconds to several minutes every time. I don't mean that the movement is slow - when it happens, the cursor doesn't follow the movement of the mouse very well, it seems 'jittery'. The cursor may "jump" to the destination 0.3~1 second after I moving the mouse. I tried everything I can do but the problem is still not solved. Here are what I've tried:
* Setting my router to 5ghz band
* Turn the mouse off and on.
* Turn the mouse off, replace the batteries to new ones, and turn on.
* Restart the computer.
* Remove the mouse from the list of Bluetooth devices, and pair again.
* Reset PRAM and SMC.
* Disable WIFI.
* Unplug everything in my room that has a wireless receiver, including Xbox, Apple TV, etc, and remove the batteries of their controllers.
None of the above works! However, I also have a Magic Trackpad which also uses Bluetooth but it works fine. I tested the Magic Mouse on my old MacBook Pro and it works without any problem. The distance between the mouse and the laptop is less than 2ft.
Mouse still works fine on my old 2010 MBP.
Brand new MBP 15", 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM.I had the same problem with my new Retina Macbook Pro and my Magic Mouse that worked fine on my previous 2010 Macbook Pro. At work I don't have a wifi network so I share my ethernet connection via wifi so I can get internet on my iPhone and iPad during the day. After reading this thread I tried turning off the internet sharing and it has cleared up all lag issues with the mouse.
Just thought I'd share my fix. Hopefully Apple can clear up whatever issues are causing this so I can get wifi back to my devices at work. -
How much does OSX take up on a brand new MBP HD?
Does anyone know on a Brand new MBP 128 SSD drive....how much is allocated to the OSX?
Thanks in advanceYou do need to install Windows twice - once under Boot Camp and once under Parallels - but you can legally use the same CD with the same licence for both installations. There is no need to buy two copies.
There is a program called Monolingual that will assist in removing the additional language support. Be care, as it has removed the components needed to run Rosetta for some users who were not as careful as they should have been.
Parallels has to run from within OS X, but some people have had success running Windows off of an external drive. I have not tried it, but the instructions can be found HERE. -
FaceTime problems on 3 brand new MBP 13 Retina, Apple has given in
Hi All,
After recieving 3 brand new machines (MBP13 Retina) in Dec 2013 and Jan 2014, Apple does not believe they can deliver a proper working brand new machine. They also won't look into the problem and hope i can accept this faulty machine.
Is that what Apple is turned into? A company that doesn't believe they can fix their own machines? Or do they not care anymore about their customers and their product?
The person I'm facetiming with cannot hear me when we talk at the same time. My (3 brand new, but all 3 faulty) machines will mute me, so the other party cannot hear me. It is back to the walky talky ages again, 'over'.
Since I'm a great believer of Apple, I cannot believe they won't fix this problem and just keep on selling and delivering brand new MBP 13 Retina machines that don't work.
Does nobody at the Apple company care anymore, is there no company pride?after a week of working on this problem the last straw was spending 3 hours being helped with this problem by 1mb.com after which time they asked me either to take out a years support at £129 or pay for help from a better qualified technician! As I only received my IPad last week I am going to send it back tomorrow. why doesn't Apple respond when it is obvious from all the discussions that there is a problem? Considering the price of the iPad I feel thoroughly disillusioned and cheated as well as frustrated by spending so many hours to no avail. this was not the only problem I've encountered but it is the one I've wasted most time trying to resolve./

Help!!! Brand new MBP with Santa Rosa Kernel Panics when started with external HD firewire 800 after 20 sec...
I don't know what it could be???
Do you???
Thanx
JayI'm actually having a similar issue and I don't think its related to networking at all.
I'm currently working in a corporate environment where we deploy pre-built OS X images to machines. I recently upgraded my images to 10.4.10 before we got our first Santa Rosa machine. This image was built on a MacPro and worked on all Intel Macs down to a MacMini CoreSolo. When I deployed my prebuilt image to the SR MBP, it caused a kernel panic immediately.
Further investigation revealed previous builds of OS X, including 10.4.10 upgraded from any other model Intel Mac will kernel panic the SR MBP. Going backwards the SR Build of OSX will not work on any previous model Mac, as any other build typically does, but causes severe graphical distortion, as if it does not have the display drivers for the other Macs.
To make a long story short, I think your issue comes from the fact that your external hard drive has an older build of OS X 10.4 than the SR MBP will run (even though you may have upgraded it to 10.4.10). Anyone who can corroborate my story with some more testing, please chime in.
I haven't found a solution for this issue yet other than keeping a seperate Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo image for my deployments. -
I am trying, unsuccessfully, to export an iphoto smart album- 12,000 photos, no movies- (information is showing 31GB total) to a brand new 32GB scandisk flash stick. A caution msg keeps saying "there is not enough space to complete this" Help!
You need a larger drive or an external drive - they OS needs a minimum of 10GB just for normal operation so you are already experiancing degraded preformance - if yo do not get more space you will start losing data
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

Brand new MBP Retina constant kernal panics
I have a new MBP Retina with Mavericks 10.9.4 installed. I have received constant kernal panics since a few days into it. It seemed as though they were being cause by the io/logic boards, but those have both been replaced now. OS has been reinstalled multiple times to no avail. BSD and kernals blamed are all over the place (Dock, WindowsServer, mds; filesystems, AppleSMBusController, IOAcceleratorFamily)
The latest kernal panic is as follows:

I've got many more where that came from. I just don't want to post a wall of text.An update on my situation.
I had my macbook pro replaced with a brand new one by Apple, which was brilliant customer service.
Before giving back the old macbook, I decided to copy all my essential documents over to a usb stick. I also formatted my time machine external drive so it was blank.
Rather than restore this new macbook using my time machine backup, I set it up as a new machine and copied just my documents from my usb stick. I then proceeded to carry out fresh installs of software I regularly use but nothing non-essential (namely Spotify, Firefox, Chrome, xCode, Adobe CS5, Squidman, MAMP and Office 2011).
For three days everything worked beautifully - until last night when I had my first kernel panic on this machine. Nothing was running apart from firefox when this panic occured. The report is below and states the process which was running was 'plugin-container' which is part of firefox.
Below is the log output:

I'm running the latest OS X Mavericks - all updated to date.
I've tested the thunderbolt display with a friends MacBook Air and I see no problems there.
Any clues what is going on? Or it this latest Kernel Panic just a coincidence compared to my previous macbook?
Thanks in advance! -
Brand New MBP Keyboard DOA/Any Fixes?/Return To Amazon or Call Apple?
I received a 2.4 GHz MBP yesterday. The internal keyboard crapped-out shortly after I began using it, within fifteen minutes or so... It took me a minute or two to realize that I couldn't type anything. Like others have reported external input devices work. The trackpad/button also function properly.
The computer arrived with the Pro Software Update 1.1 already installed, so that relatively easy fix is out.
I am in the process of upgrading the MBP to 10.5.5, etc. and see if that helps, but I doubt that it will. I have been unable to find any reliable fixes online. Anybody?
So do I contact Amazon or call Apple? I am at the Amazon page where you click "refund" or "return." I could really use a reliable Apple portable computer but this has really put me off... I opted for a previous-generation model for the matte screen and a keyboard that I prefer. I am well -aware of the Nvidia GPU woes but I thought that I could try to mitigate the heat issue and hope for the best. Now I'm not so sure.
All but one of my Macs going back to 1995 have had at least one hardware issue and the portables have had at least two major hardware issues. But this is the first brand-new Mac that has arrived in this condition.Having dug a little deeper into the Amazon returns policy I came across this:
"All computers sold by Amazon.com are supported by the computer's manufacturers. In the unlikely event a computer appears to be defective, customers are directed to contact the customer support networks of the individual computer manufacturer to have it serviced under warranty."
I had read somewhere that Amazon accepts computer returns if they arrive "DOA" but then I got to thinking that DOA may not apply to this situation...
So I guess my next stop is Apple if it acts up again...
