Breaking a film into scenes?

Hi, I am editing a feature and when I send the whole sequence to STP multitrack project from FCP, STP crashes. I have found that I can send blocks of scenes and there is no problem.
My question is whether I can break the film into chunks of scenes, send to various multitrack projects and at the end, bring them all back into the FCP project? Will this work?
Thanks in advance.

Any type of help will be much appreciated here please. I really just want to know whether if I send the film in various multitrack files and add effects/mix, etc, I will be able to bring them all back together in one FCP sequence/project?
Thanks in anticipation.

What is important here is that you know the properties of your source file(s), set the project preset to match the properties of those source files, and then export with settings as close as possible to the original. Often you can do this without noticing quality differences in the export.
I am understanding and defining your issue as you wanting to maintain the quality of the original imported files in the export. If that is the case, the please supply the following, and I will give you a step by step
    a. What are the properties of your source files (including bitrate). Here I am looking for
    video compression
    audio compression
    frame size
    frame rate
    interlaced or progressive
    pixel aspect ratio
    file extension
A quick way to get that type of information is knowing the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
    2. Based on that information we can set manually a project preset to match those source property.
    3. When we go to export...example Publish+Share/Computer/ and your choice and its preset, we can customize the preset selected
under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of that preset in order to try for the best possible match between the properties of the
original file and the properties of the export.
But, please let us know if you also need help in trimming the original import at the Timeline level prior to export.
Your mention of Publish+Share suggest that you are working with Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13. What is the computer operating system?
    Thanks.

  • HT1473 Often times when I copy a CD into my library it breaks the CD into more than one Album, all with the same name but with only a few of the songs on each. This happens whenever the CD has music with more than one artists...like maybe duets.

Often times when I copy a CD into my library it will break my CD into multiple albums in my library, each with only a few songs.
Usually this is because there might be songs where the artists has other artists in the song.
How can I compile all of the different albums (all with the same name by the way) back into one as was the original disc?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

    Coastal,
Frank gave you the exact answer to your question.
However, I would like to ask if you are indeed asking the right question.  Do you really want different libraries?  The implications are that you have to "switch" libraries to see what's in the others, and so that your searches don't work across all of your pictures?  If so, then you asked the right question.  If not, you may be more interested in relocating your masters to multiple hard drives so your library gets smaller, instead of breaking up the library.

  • Breaking one track into several fluidly

I did a live recording all into one instrument track using the internal microphone on my Macbook. It sounds great, but I'm wanting to produce a CD from it and track each song individually.
My problem, when I segment the show with garageband and then export each song to itunes, (and yes I was very careful to cut at the exact to the hundredth of a second)there is a 2-3 second pause at the end of of each track while it shows the meter still moving.
I want the entire CD to play as if the listener was sitting there at the show, with the added advantage of being able to skip to the 6th song if they desire.
Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

I'm having the same problem, so how did you solve your issue. I spin a 1 hour set into garageband as 1 track and I want to go back and break it up into several tracks. I went to the other link but i'm new to mac so i didnt understand how to do it.

  • Is there a script (or plugin) that will take a photo and break it up into parts?

Is there a script or plug-in out there that will take a picture and break it up into various parts (squares for example.)  The idea would be that you could automate and rapidly create a photo collage of a single image.  (See examples of what I mean in attached pics.)
    Thanks!
This image has been resized to fit in the page. Click to enlarge.
    You get the idea.

OK, I'm going to edit this post now that I'm at a computer with an actual step by step.
Create a new comp the size of you our final delivered project.
Add a photo to the timeline
Note the size of the photo and the scale to position the photo at it's final resting place
Calculate twice the height and width of the photo and create a new solid that is this size
Place the solid above the photo
Create a mask in the solid at the exact center that is the size shape you want for your photo frame
Either invert the mask or set the mask property to Subtract to reveal a small portion of the photo
Set the solid as a alpha inverted track matte for the photo (you should now see only a portion of the photo
Add a rectangular shape layer with only a stroke to act as the photo frame over the mask. You may have to use two shapes or create a mask on a shape if you want to simulate polaroids
Make the shape layer the parent of the solid you are using as a track matte so the matte will stay lined up with the frame
Here comes the fun, select all layers and duplicate them using Ctrl/Cmnd + D
Immediately hold down Shift + Ctrl/Cmnd + } to move all duplicates to the top
Select the top shape layer and move the shape layer frame into a new position
    Pre-compose the top 3 layers
Press the y key to select the Pan Benind or Anchor Point tool and move the pre-comp's anchor point to the center of the top frame
Repeat step 11 through 15 until you have arranged your montage (it might be a good idea to have a template set up as a guide layer so you know where to put the frames
Select all pre-comps and press Alt/Option + P to set a position keyframe for each pre-comp
With all of the keyframe selected move them down the timeline about 3 seconds
Now, with the CTI at the first frame drag each pre-comp into a starting position for that frame
Preview and adjust the timing, then turn on motion blur
Your images will now assemble themselves into the final montage.
There is no script that I know of that will do all of this automatically, but it would not be too hard to write a script that would do the pre-composing if you have a ton of these to do. I'm guessing that with a little practice you could have a new picture frame created and moved into position in less than a minute. It takes me about 30 seconds. That means a 20 frame sequence should take you about a half hour. It might not be worth writing a script unless you have a ton of these to do. Select the bottom three layers and duplicate (Ctrl/Cmnt + D), group them at the top (Shift + Ctrl/Cmnd + } ), move the top frame layer into position, then Shift + Ctrl/Cmnd + C to pre-compose, then move the anchor point of the pre-comp, then do it again.... When you're done set a few keyframes.
As I said, you could write a script, but you'd need a different script to move each frame into position and the script would only work for one layout. If you made a template to put on the bottom so you knew where do place the frames and which order you wanted them you could do this by hand very quickly. The sample project that I'm including which was just quickly thrown together took me less than 10 minutes. Replace my photo with one of yours and you'll get the idea.

  • Breaking a pdf into multiple pdf's

I have a 250 page pdf.  each page represents a departments information.  Is there a way to break apart that pdf into single pdf's but using part of the file to name the pdf?
for example, if the first report has a title that contains department 123, I could extract that page and name it department 123.
The only want I know how to break a pdf into multiple pages is to use the document / extract pages and select Extract pages as seperate files.  But when I do this it uses the name of the exiting file and adds a number to it.

You will have to select a subforum, e.g. Creating, Editing & Exporting PDFs, or Acrobat SDK (since you probably need to write the functionality you want by yourself).

  • Break photo gallery into separate pages

I have so many pictures in my iphoto library that I'd like to share on gallery. However; I find that as I upload more and more picture, the gallery takes too longer to load. I am wondering if it is possible that I can break the gallery into smaller segments and put them on separate pages? If so, how ?

    shakur:
As users we can control how many photos we put in a single gallery but not creating "pages" of galleries. You could create an iWeb page with the galleries on the page like this. But once you bring up any gallery by clicking on it, if you go to the main gallery you're in the same situation waiting for all the items to load.
But the first visit to the web page would not be dependent on loading the galleries.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    named zip_code would contain 99999-0000 ?
    Thanks for any help.

Is it possible to have each field separated by a comma? Space
delimiters won't work since not all cities & states are one
word (ie. New York, New York) however a comma delimiter would allow
you to use simple list functions to extract the data.
If this isn't possible but the data is always in the format:
city<comma>state<space>zip, then you could extract the
city using comma as the delimiter and then extract the zip code
using the ListLast() function with space as the delimiter which
would leave you with the state as the remaining text. This would
only work however if your data is consistently in the format
    described above.
Failing this you could build two tables with states and
cities and then use them to identify valid states and cities and
    extract the data that way.
    cheers

  • Breaking 1 clip into many clips

My project (over 1 hour long) consists of many 40-year-old super 8 movies. Half were digitized into a proprietary Sony format, which had to be converted to a format iMovie 6 HD could use; half were already in an iMovie HD6 project. They were then combined into one file in iMovie HD 6, and exported in .dv format for use in iMovie 11. However, iMovie 11 imported almost one hunded clips as one clip. I now need to break it into lots of clips so I can edit very dark spots, blown out spots, and bad color, and add music. iMovie 11 help says I can break 1 clip into only 2 or 3 clips. Help please!
Thanks in advance for any solutions.

I would recommend that you break apart the big DV clip using MPEG Streamclip.
    Here are the details.
Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
    Start MPEG Streamclip
In iMovie, Right-click on your long event clip and select REVEAL IN FINDER.
A Finder Window will appear. Drag the highlighted clip to MPEG Streamclip.
If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
You can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o.
IN MPEG Streamclip, Use FILE/EXPORT to DV
Optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month. hh is hours in 24 hour time.
Save the resulting files in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
Go back to MPEG Streamclip, and set the in and out points for your second clip and go through the steps again.
Continue until you have created all your clips.
In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/Movies... and choose the files you saved above.
iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

  • Breaking long movies into more than one DVD

Help! I've created a movie with a bunch of chapters of a training that we did and now I need to burn it on a DVD but its way too big...how can I break it up into two or three dvds with idvd?

What is "...way too big..."? How long is the movie? I assume you're using iMovie HD (6). You should make movies that will then fit iDVD. Do you have a double-layer burner in the iMac?

  • 8 mm film into iMovie

I have quite a bit of the old 8mm movie film, and would like to get it into iMovie 4 for editing. A local firm will transfer it to a DVD, but I am not sure if I can then get the clips from the DVD into i Movie.
Any other suggestions as to how to get the images from the film into iMovie?
    Thank you.
    nebr
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hello nebr,
I have had a lot of 8 mm movie film converted to directly to miniDV. This is obviously the best option to use with iMovie. I just plug the tape into my camera and load the movies into iMovie just like my newly filmed material.
If you ask your local firm, I am sure that they can transfer the movies to miniDV rather than a DVD. They will probably charge you for the tape, or ask you to provide the tapes you want, but I am sure that they can do it. If not, there are plenty of other companies out there who will - and you can find them easily with a google search.
You do NOT want them to transfer your data to DVD! It is very difficult to get info from a DVD into iMovie. Plus, the info on a DVD is compressed, so you get a degraded copy when you try to retreive info from it (and the old movies on 8mm film reels are often pretty poor quality to start with, so any further degradation is really noticeable).
    Hope this helps,
    Lincoln

  • Having purchased an itouch 4 and installed itunes 10.5 for my daughter i cannot copy films into itunes. even though ialways did with my itunes and her ipod. Any thoughts please?

Having purchased an itouch 4 and installed itunes 10.5 for my daughter on her laptop i now cannot copy films into movies on itunes. Even though I always did with my itunes and her ipod on my laptop.
    Any thoughts please?

Have uninstalled then re-installed iTunes and it sees my iPhone but doesn't show the battery state.
I have rebooted my laptop and, guess what, iPhone is now NOTseen! Who designed this software, an idiot? Oh, I forgot Apple programmers don't know anything about Windows especially Windows 7. I still think this has to do with the differing formats as if there are pictures on the iPhone, Windows sees it as a camera and it is possible to see the pictures in Explorer, so these must be stored in FAT format. Maybe someone needs to design the phone to tell Windows that it's a phone and tells Windows to load the correct drivers. Maybe that's too difficult!
